With the ATEM pro, and an analogue sound desk, you don't need an audio interface. We run a stereo mix out of the sound desk, and straight in to the Mic1 input on the ATEM. (with a custom cable, 2 RCA into 3.5mm stereo). Then the audio comes into the computer as part of the HDMI video from the ATEM. The ATEM also can process basic compression and level limiting on the audio.

with the ATEM mini pro you don't need to route it through the computer at all... we stream directly from the ATEM mini pro to our church website and RUclips (both of which record automatically so we do not have that load on a PC either). Use the PC as an input to the ATEM mini pro! Doing this we also run a cable directly out of the mixing console into the back of the ATEM mini pro. This is even easier for a small church.

Stream to multiple places is very impressive and I can see the benifits, but I've found that with my church streaming to one place is better because you aren't dividing the viewers into seperate places. One stream, one very lively stream chat

We’ve done a PC based life stream in the UK using a Cannon camera connected to pc via cam link over hdmi, iPad and iPhone connected over NDI for multi camera views and using OBS to stream to Facebook live and RUclips simultaneously. Audio comes from our X32 via the usb cable. Seems a good solution after almost a year of doing this. We have one venue with cable broadband and one venue where we use 4G LTE connection, but same setup at both.

Suffice to say, I’m very happy to now be included in these decisions 😅.

Thank you for posting this. Very helpful! The only things I would recommend: 1) Consider the CABLING. If I follow your instructions and go-for-it, this will not work probably in the majority of situations. Mainly because the HDMI CABLES would not do it. Maximum length is 20 meters / 50 feet. Most churches are bigger than this, unless you move all your desk to the front of the church, and ends up being the main attraction of the service. Please talk a little bit about CABLES (SDI vs. HDMI vs. FIBER HDMI vs. SDI CONVERTERS); 2) Please check the costs, they are incorrect. Again, if I go-for-it once again, and I ask the church for USD 3K, this would not cut either. Again, don't get me wrong, just helping you being more helpful and effective. Thanks!

may i help you with the cabling choices?
my church built the streaming service around in the middle of last year so i know how the cabling choices is a bit worrisome
      there are few choices;
      1. full HDMI cable, cons: expensive, and prone to breaking if it bent too much
      2. SDI cable (i use this one), cons: you need converter if your capture card or video mixer, or your camera, doesn't have SDI in/out (still cheaper than hdmi, and more resistant in bending)
      3. HDMI extender using UTP cable, cons: you got more equipments to take care of
i did not included Fiber and Wireless bcs it's gonna really expensive LOL

We use almost the exact setup in our Church. For those on the fence concerning a multi vs single camera setup, don't hesitate to go multi. We use a second camera for a nice wide shot and it saves us a lot from when the first camera is at a bad angle, not ready or the talent is doing something out of expectation. And its easy!

One change worth considering. We take our audio feed from the sound desk directly into the Atem Mini Pro mini-jack input, so there's then a single combined audio and video output coming from the Atem to the PC. That eliminates any possible audio and video sync issues occurring in the PC hardware or software as they're already synced in the Atem. We've found this to be a better solution then sending a separate audio and video feed to the PC, and syncing there.

Very informative video, thanks. Might I add a suggestion? We're s small congregation with a very limited budget and we went with a MEVO Plus camera. It lets you choose between multiple areas of the picture so it simulates different angles. Together with a monthly subscription it also also allows adding slides and lower thirds and you can stream to multiple sites. It was about 400 EUR and works like a charm. Just a suggestion if you have a tight budget.

We use the Roland V-1HD switch. We first went with the BM ATEM Mini, but there was way too much latency. We also have everything going INTO the V-1HD and NOT into Propresenter 6. We send lower 3rd graphics (with black text boxes) from Propresenter on a blue screen to the Roland which takes out the blue and uses live camera under the graphics. The combined signal splits from the Roland goes out to the main screens and to Boxcast for streaming.

We plug our analog audio mixer output into one of the 2 mic inputs on our ATEM Pro. That saves the cost and complexity of a separate audio capture box. Also, the ATEM Pro can delay the audio signal so that it keeps synchrony with the HDMI video.

I am seeing many asking about an update and have to say I would agree. This is not bad information overall and equipment can be changed. For one a stand alone PC in place of todays laptops utilizing Free programs such as OBS could open many other options.
1- OBS is a full studio, titling, multi camera views, screen captures, multi channel audio, streaming or just recording, effects, PREVIEW AND LIVE views at the same time, etc
2- With multiple USB Ports (not a hub) you open up the ability of different feeds from cameras, projectors, video playbacks, etc.
With all that said, the Atem switching unit can help with other options outside the software. IF using IP cameras, Interfacing other then Atem units are used, But make sure you have plenty of Bandwidth and PC power to monitor video feeds and livestream.
I would love to see a review with Windows and OBS software utilizing the camera hardware he is recommending.

    • @petermoeller5901

Not sure you still look for an answer. Considering that in this setup the external Atem unit does the video mixing, not very powerful. It will depend on your streaming resolution, but a mid-range i5 with 16gig of RAM will do that.
A friend has streamed from two cameras directly connected to a midrange Macbook with some presentation via 4G modem.

Also you mentioned something for the guys at RenewedVision.... how about a “wizard” for assisting in set up. Like in OBS. When they first turn on PP7, it could ask them what they are using, house screen, confidence, streaming etc etc. Or like a couple of “presets” to help beginners or even bets get up and going with their system. Just a thought.

    Hey, great video.
Glad to see updates with current tech.
Our church uses the Atem mini pro. Has anyone recently noticed it stop streaming while caching? Saw a post it might have to do with the firmware.

You could also plug the aux bus into the atem as a last resort. However, you need a way to monitor the audio going out to stream like a monitor with audio out.

What cables do you exactly use for the cameras? Is HDMI ideal for long distances between the camera and desk (which you have to account for)? A +30ft HDMI cable does not sound like a good idea. Should SDI rather be used (which would require a HDMI-SDI adapter)?

I would argue that as great as DSLR cameras are, camcorder type cameras are much more volunteer friendly and give much easier control of zoom, focus, iris, colour balance, colour temp etc. You can also add a lanc controller to many of the Canon G range.

Great video. I hope I can implement most of the tips within the next few months. *both thumbs up*
I had to laugh when at about 6:37 you talked about the amazing autofocus capabilities of the Sony cameras and in both shots the worship leader was slightly out of focus. At least that's how it looked on my iPhone screen.
Keep doing what you’re doing. You’re such an outstanding blessing for so many churches.

Do you have people behind/moving all of those cameras? Do you have a good solution for remote controlled (either bases or...?)?

PTZ cameras as they are known (pan, tilt, zoom) can be kinda expensive, and controlling them can be a whole thing, usually you can go a long way with a couple of thoughtfully placed locked off (not moving) cameras, and then add extra cameras with operators as available. The bigger ATEM's can do PTZ control over SDI, and there is a company called middle things that have a solution for using DJI Gimbles as PTZ heads, which may be an affordable option if you already have cameras available

That's Davinci Resolve logo/icon in your diagram. It should've been that of OBS, right? Just being picky here hehe :)

From your experience, is the video image quality the same when saving to a hard drive the same as the image quality when recording from within the camera using an SD card?
