Try staying up for 12 hours straight and building the cobi Bismarck (yes that happened to me and I was tired by the end of it and looked like a zombie) the ship is bigger than this with fewer pieces but it also had way smaller pieces than this and it was miserable
also if the pieces for God Of Disaster are cross compatible with LEGO Optimus Prime maybe you should use those pieces to do some changes to Prime ( I seen some instructions for an alternative head and knee joints, though mostly I am interested in a more round head for Prime myself )
As a brick build I agree with you, even if it is LEGO/ brick based it should not parts form unless it's part of the identity. As an example of good parts forming, weapon parts forming. Despite my distaste for it it still works as it is intended to, compared to completely removing half the alt mode to get to robot then doing nothing with the left over parts.
the set does get the bag numbering right for the _big_ ones, but it would've helped the building process even a little more if they numbered the smaller bags inside akin to Super Mario Bros levels. (1-1, 1-2,1-3, just to name a few examples)

Lego prime took me months (it made me mad) i accidentally placed the eye piece on its stomach and sigh i eventually sat down till 3am building the rest
Another thing about the parts forming is that most of the parts seem superfluous. What’s the point of stuff like the gas tanks… or the trailer hitch… or even the grill pieces when the arms could have filled the gaps like the G1 Optimus Prime toys… or the skirts in the robot mode… these are wasted parts count and money on the consumer’s part… why can’t the budget go into better design.
I would do that as well I would just copy the color scheme of the character I wanted to build and then just crumple him into a “vehicle” and pretend its a Transformers

The arms in the 24 minute mark aren't just Exoforce arms but they're also Krog's arms and Kamzo's left arm.
They've been in a lot of sets, but I recall them getting their start in exo force.
