Glad I ran across this video.. it was in my algorithm... I can definitely understand the whole spending money issues. I been learning korean for 2 yrs, off and on for 2nd yr. Mainly listening to the language. 1st yr was writing alot! The alphabet, simple structure sentences, took a class for 6 months.. reading is been easier. Just still not understanding certain words I read. So now I'm trying to learn grammar. I don't personally know anyone out in SK but have lots of friends who travel out there that give lots of insights to make it helpful. Thanks so much for posting this video and explaining your experiences, as well as tips to remember

+1 to learning Korean. If not the speaking, at least reading. You can learn to read Korean in just couple hours. Literally learn it on the flight. You might think 'what good is reading it if you don't know what it means?' but just being able to read the signs and correctly pronounce the names of places will make thing so much more convenient. Asking someone "Where is 광장시장" is so much easier than asking "Where is gwangjang sijang"

You make a lot of sense. I learned to read Korean in an hour, even though I didn't know what I was reading. I never considered learning Korean on the plane on my way over hahaha Thanks for that! Your last statement is very logical. It is better to at least ask for part of something in Korean than everything in English. Great points!!

Definitely agree with these. Excellent points, especially with regards to managing your finances. It’s easy to get carried away especially if you know you got some cash to spare and be in a country that has lots to offer…
It always pays to save up for rainy days ✌🏻

You aint wrong bro! I found myself doing that a lot in Korea. I had so much money in my pocket, my pockets were itching lol. I had to have a serious talk with myself one day to straighten me out. Just because you have it, doesn't mean you MUST spend it. Thanks for watching, brother!

@@francoismarc3 That trip was made possible because i was able to crash on a couch for a week xD maybe that can be my thing. I can find a local online and sleep on their couch lol Went to comic con and just kind of chilled. I wanted to live like a local. I didnt want to be a tourist. Almost done with that video. Interestingly enough the cost to fly from here to seoul around this time of year is like 400 usd cheaper then if i were to go in september when i went to canada last year. Flights to Bangkok are just heart breaking lol

Great list, and number 2 seems the most essential, rewarding, and difficult... I can't even imagine how tricky learning correct pronunciation would be as well... let alone processing when native speakers were talking quickly.
It's amazing how well you've done, learning and thriving in Korea, over the past 14 years!

It's definitely a struggle, B. Moreso with myself. During this time, I found that I have a lot more weaknesses than I thought, so it became a battle of me attempting to turn my weaknesses into strengths and dealing with internal conflict more than with people on the outside. Still many things to learn, but I think I'm headed in the right direction") And yes, need to learn Korean better. It will be my secondary focus for this year!

I agree having a local friend will definitely help you learn more about the intricacies of the food and culture. Good nuggets on financials management tips.

Heeeey, thanks so much for the comment! Right! Having good friends in your new country can definitely reduce the struggle time at the beginning of your stay. Financial management is also important. Just because I have it, doesn't mean I need to spend it.:)

As you know I’m not living in Korea, but this is my thinking.
I agree with you on getting a Korean friend.
I agree with learning the language, the number of Korean English teachers I have met in Korea who will not learn the language is staggering. I find it disrespectful.
Money management - well I think some people will never figure this out regardless of the country they currently live in.
More important than learning the transportation system - NAVER. Which even I as a tourist use all the time, is get out of SEOUL. Why come to a country and never leave Seoul!!!
Korea is not Seoul - to say you have lived in Korea for 2 years and have never left Seoul I find unbelievable.
    That’s my 1,000KRW worth. Haha!!!!😅😅😅😅🇰🇷🇰🇷🇰🇷

Hahahaha you touched on a lot of good points! I'm actually making a video about Naver and other apps when I return to Korea hahaha. And yes, Seoul is not Korea! I'll be going back to the countryside more often this year! I miss the serenity there! About the money management, I agree. For some reason, many people I know seem to think money grows on trees. It does not. For poor people like me, I trade time for money. When you waste money on fruitless endeavors, you waste time as well. Money can come back, time can't. Thanks for making this comment. It made me think a lot more about the topic. 1,000 won well spent! Lol
