    I have a flat rate profile set up because my items are small, usually 1-5 ounces, sometimes more.
    To make sure I’m charging enough I keep a spreadsheet where I use columns to enter the retail price and my price for shipping. I just keep adding to the columns with each order. I created a formula to take the average of each shipping price.
    Right now the average of the retail column is $4.92 and I’m charging a flat rate of $4.90 per order currently. The $4.92 average also includes the occasional “heavy but still under a pound” AND orders that hit the free shipping guarantee.
    If the average retail price creeps closer to $4.95 I’ll change my flat rate to that.
    It works out for me. Shipping gets covered regardless of which zone I’m shipping to I don’t make money on shipping it I do break even.

    This was extremely helpful. The shipping part of trying to set up a listing on Etsy has always been the hardest thing for me. This just made it a lot easier and I went ahead and set up my shipping profile while watching this. Thank you!

    I prefer to ship USPS Ground whenever possible and was wondering if you knew why Etsy doesn't include that option in any of the shipping set-up options. Tnx!

      They haven't updated it from FIrst Class, it's still all absed on that rate schedule. I have no idea why they haven't updated it, it's ridiculous.

    Will Etsy still print a label with this method?

    I’d like more info on how to figure out what to charge for the shipping upgrade. I’m using pod with a flat rate. I’d like to offer an expedited shipping upgrade. POD is going to charge me a calculated expedited shipping price but I somehow need to figure out a flat rate price point to add to the shipping profile?

    • @KaraBuntinTutorials
      @KaraBuntinTutorials  9 месяцев назад

      When you turn the upgrade on it will calculate it for you automatically if you have calculated shipping set up. I don’t think you need to do anything else since the shipping cost will be different depending on where people are located.

    Great video!Does Etsy generate shipping label for fixed shipping? I believe for fixed shipping tracking won't be available. SO how does that work?

    • @KaraBuntinTutorials
      @KaraBuntinTutorials  5 месяцев назад

      It doesn't matter what kind of shipping you're using, there will be a tracking number on it if you use Etsy labels IF IT'S AVAILABLE in your country. I put that in caps because some countries don't have tracking automatically. But in the US it doesn't matter what kind of shipping fee it is, if you buy labels on Etsy and tracking is available it's included.

    My question is quite silly but.. how do you know that the cost of shipping is $4? Like, depending on the ite it can be larger and at least in my country that adds to the price.

    • @KaraBuntinTutorials
      @KaraBuntinTutorials  4 месяца назад +1

      Everything i sell is pretty consistent in size, and I’ve been doing this for 13 years, so i know that the lowest price to send X number of things is $4. It’s going to be different for everyone but i know my own prices.

    When will my edited shipping profile show up? Gosh! I hope you see this! My product is funny women greeting cards and I've been meaning forever to add an additional item cost in my shipping profile. I have used a flat rate for quite some time but want to add a wee bit. @@collenekennedy One of the shipping profile options has an additional item section, but I'm not sure that they all do. If you're using the calcualted shipping try setting one up without that. I think that non-calculated does have the additional item option, though, if I remember correctly.

    Thanks for explaining this Kara. Just wondering, i have various types of listings some are small and some are larger so with the larger items I’ve added a fixed rate of $6 (I’m in Australia) and embedded the difference of the cost to ship the larger item into the price of the item. However with my smaller pieces as they don’t cost too much to send, for those I have set the postage to Free.
    So I’m trying to understand if someone purchases a smaller item and a larger item when they go to check out, does Etsy look at the two shipping profiles and apply the greater of the two amount so essentially it will it show $6 as the cost of shipping?
    I’ve referred to the info on shipping Etsy provide and they explain how Etsy calculates shipping for when someone purchases multiple items as part of the one transaction and from what I understand, it would appear that they apply the higher shipping rate but as they don’t mention how this works if one listing is a fixed price and the other is free, I’m a bit at a loss..🤷‍♀️

    • @KaraBuntinTutorials
      @KaraBuntinTutorials  Год назад +1

      I think that if you have it set up with a fixed price they use that, so they charge the customer the $6. If you had it set with an “additional item” fee they would take the free shipping first then add the additional item fee as the shipping price, so you have to watch out for that. You can log out of your account and put things in your cart as a guest shopper to see how they’re adding it up

      @@KaraBuntinTutorials thanks for clarifying - I went back and decided to not use ‘Free shipping’ and opted to place a lesser fixed price for my smaller item..got my friend to test to see what happens & it’s like you said, they take the greater value shipping so shows $6
      Also thankyou so much for telling me how I could check it myself - I would never have thought to log out of my account and select items as a guest lol I’ve been doing my head in trying to figure out how I could test it so hence asked my friend to try..now I know so thank you sooooo much 🤗

    What about shipping for Print on Demand?

    • @KaraBuntinTutorials
      @KaraBuntinTutorials  Год назад

      You can set that up any way you want. The pod company will charge you but you can set it up on Etsy to have a shipping price or not so that it’s “free” for customers. It’s not free, you have to add the shipping cost into the price of the item, but there would be no shipping cost displayed so there’s no additional cost at checkout.

    Because my vintage items are all different in weight and size, the old method worked better for me. Enter weight and box size, it was calculated on that. What the heck happened to this? Why are the only options FREE OR FIXED RATE. I've researched this and have yet to find the answer. My listing page is really limited in entering info. Are they forcing sellers to purchase labels to get more options? I am stuck on the listing problems, don't need any other advice or suggestions, anyone?

      @@KaraBuntinTutorials Everything is the same until I reach the shipping section. One profile seems to be based on the prior listing method (that I don't remember creating) it's called Basic/Calculated prices. When I click on the profile to edit, I see fixed rate or free. Below that there is a box 'Preview shipping prices-enter your item's weight and size'-but the box isn't clickable? I feel like I'm going in circles. I sold things back in August 2023 and the old method was still in use. Seems fiddly compared to the old method. I watched your excellent video, I see more steps than before, I'm speaking for myself. I do all my listings on a Mac/desktop or laptop.

      There’s a gear icon on the screen that lets you slow the video down or speed it up. I talk fast naturally so if i slow down on purpose it will sound like I’m talking to little kids, and then people would say i sound like i think everyone is an idiot, which i don’t. For a tutorial like this people might have to go back and watch sections more than once, or pause the video to see the screen closer, but that’s normal.
