I'm a female and because of your video I replaced my distributor successfully on my 95 E350 club wagon!!!!! I can't thank you enough for helping me with my independence after my daddy recently died. I dearly appreciate you. With all my heart thank you. Thank you so much. 💓
I have been stranded for over 2 months. With a ride to town once a week to get everything I needed to survive on till the next week. I live too far from stores to walk. I would of never thought I could of done this by myself. You made me feel so proud of myself and I know my daddy in heaven is smiling right now. Thank you I'm crying right now because you showed me I am more capable than I ever knew. I bet you have no clue the amount of weight your kindness actually has amassed into by helping people like me just because you decided to share with humanity.
Wow…no words…I’m humbled, and so happy this helped you! I’m so sorry to hear about your dad…sounds like he was a wonderful person. You are most welcome, and this brought tears to my eyes, reading this. Keep on learning and trying new repairs, you can do it! I’ll try to post as many repair videos as I can, whenever the old Bronco needs work:) God bless you!!!
@@jamieholmes1287 this is a super awesome post. Good for you! Sorry for the loss of your dad. As the father of adult daughters, I can safely say I'm sure he's looking down on you super proud.
Exactly what I needed. I am doing exactly this on my '96 Bronco 5.8 this afternoon. Thanks!
Awesomeness, so glad this helped! You are most welcome, friend!
That was much better than the last two jokesters i tried to watch but soon figured they were wasting my time. Thank ypu sir, great video
So glad this helped you, and thank you!
Just happened upon this video and I will be following it to change the distributor in my dad's truck in the morning. Nice video, straight to the point.
That is so awesome! Glad it helps, and thank you for the feedback, it is so much appreciated!
@@GrubNGas Just got around to installing that distributor in my dad's truck this morning and it is running very good.
@@michaelrawlesjr.5459 that’s awesome to hear! It’s a good feeling, getting one to run well!
Not a lot of chatter straight to the point and Thank your wifey for the umbrella great video
Thank you so much, friend! I’ll be sure to pass that along to her:)
This was exactly what I was looking for I’m working on a 92 bronco same setup, thanks for taking the time to make this! 😃
Really glad to hear it helped!!!
Great video🏆. I would say this is the best and straight to the point instructional video I found. I have a 1995 Ford E350 with the 5.8 and lost Spark unfortunately the distributor system what's the last thing I checked so I have complete new electrical and components all the way through now but was hesitant to do this myself only because I've never done it but after watching your video it gave me confidence to tackle the job😁😁👊🏼.
Thank you so much, and I’m so glad to hear this helped!
Just wanted you know I appreciate by making this video I have a 1978 f150 pick up truck and I need to install the whole distributor like you did and I started yesterday I had hard time pulling up but I finally did it, due to the rain Yap it started raining and was getting dark so I decided to install the new one today so I hope everything comes together and I hope it's starts I should be starting working today around 10 I keep you posted later how it went again thank you for posting this video make me feel like I could do it myself sincerely Alonzo here from north Georgia
So glad to hear this helped you! I hope your 1978 is running again!
Spot on! my 1985 is happy again. thank you
So awesome! You’re most welcome!
Thank you very much I have a 96 Ford F150 and I need to replace a distributor. I’m a carpenter not a mechanic you help me a bunch God bless and stay safe and stay dry. John from Denver Colorado
You are most welcome, and I’m so glad this helped you! God bless you too, and have a wonderful day!!!
I have an update on the 1996 Ford F150 I got the distributor and the first time and it works like a champ thank you. But I will not quit my day job
@@johnmcguire5594 I hear ya! Glad it helped!!!
Great little tutorial! The only thing I would add is to use dielectric grease on the terminals of the eight connector plug as well as the plug wires.
Thanks so much, and 100% on the dielectric!!!
Good info. There aren't that many 96 5.8 MAF broncos out there, nice to see you maintaining yours! My 96 is now a 408w, I'll be posting some videos of upgrades along the way.
Looking forward to seeing that! So awesome!
Well TT, how the heck are you? I'm buying an E150 5.8 van with a bad PIP, so looked up this video to change out the distributor. Hello to your family!
@@MT4Runner sounds good, and we are well! How are you and yours???
@@MT4Runner Nice. Can I get that Saginaw steering pump and 130 amp alternator from it 😜
About got my engine buttoned up. Edelbrock pro-flo 4, quick 4 trans controller, etc. Deep into wiring/removing ECU now.
@@wheelin66bronco haha, I’ll probably add an invertor, RKE keypad and change all the interior lights to LEDs. Pimpin’ Grandpa van!
good info having problems with my 96 f150 5.8 thinking it needs a distributor. BTW nice Ride.
Thanks so much!
Thank you so much. 💓
You’re most welcome!!! Glad it helped!!!
That was very helpful!!!
Really glad to hear it! Have a wonderful day!
@@GrubNGas I'm a swiss guy staying in TX. I had the distributor of my '90 Bronco soaked with oil. The next workshop is miles away. What I appreciate about your vid is that I can see perfectly well what you're doing.
@@franzkohler8337 man I’m so glad to hear this helped you! Wow, Texas is a long way from home, eh? I’m in Arkansas, but if I was close by I’d try to give you a hand.
Thanks
You’re welcome!
Great video, this is exactly what I need to do to mine instead of just changing the PIP. Could you share the distributor part/model number? Thanks.
Cardone #30-2700 at Advance Auto. Thank you for your feedback, and so happy this helped you!!!!
It be nice to know if it's cast or steel.. Great Video..
Thanks so much! I believe the distributor is aluminum, but I can double check.
@@GrubNGas
I believe the drive gear material of construction was supposed to be the topic.
Apparently that model doesn't have the TFI module.
I did not think of that.
Thank you for this video. I wanted to ask you I have a 89 bronco and from time to time at stops and I have to wait a while to turn on is that because of this part
You’re most welcome! I’m not sure what’s happening with yours…does it just die?
My 89 did that, had to replace my ground wire. It also could be your coolant temp sensor.
I have a OMC Cobra 5.8 351w it's in a boat freshly built motor. I'm having a problem I have Spark. Where should I put the rotor pointing at number one or in the middle of the intake?
I located an article that’s very specific with pictures of the process from a new rebuild. Hope this helps you:
www.fullsizebronco.com/threads/how-to-properly-set-the-timing-on-a-302-or-351.168214/
It looked like you didn't fully clip the distributor cap to the distributor. Thanks for the video, I'm replacing the distributor on my 1994 Bronco. Do I have to time it, or does it do it by itself (as long as I'm close)?
I did not time mine, but there are specific instructions available online for timing it. Mine runs great, and i set the timing by ear.
I would recommend following the proper procedure
i have a eddie bouer 95 with the inline6. it seems to be leaking right at the base of block and distributor. any suggestions
You might try replacing the o-ring around the base of the distributor. Keep in mind, you’ll want to mark the position of the rotor when you pull it out.
What would cause the rotary button tip the blade on the end that Sparks across to only be half burnt on the blade half of it is brand new looking the other half is rough like sandpaper right on the end
Sounds like timing…have you been able to put a timing light on it?
Do you know what the initial timing should be set at after you replace the distributor?
10 degrees btdc is a good starting point, from what I've read.
How do you tell if your distributor is bad? What symptom was the old distributor causing you? I’ve been having issues with my 1993 Bronco.
My engine was extremely weak, no power when I hit the gas, and the exhaust manifolds were getting really hot, hotter than normal.
Someone might wanna know this. Cylinder Numbering
Front to back
1, 2, 3, 4 on the passenger side
5, 6, 7, 8 on the driver side
Firing Order
1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8
Distributor Rotation
Counter-Clockwise
Than you for sharing this!
Years ago I got f100 someone had it in small block Chevy firing order 😂 that's why I added this
How do you face the distributor if I got a whole new one and you set the motor to top dead center and want to re set the timing ?
It’s a lot to type out, so I’m adding a link with all the info you need. Hope this helps!

I've been trying to fix a crank but no start problem with my 96. It was hard to start but I eventually got it started and drove it an hour and parked it. Went to start it the next day and it hasn't started since. I've replaced the coil, distributor, starter solenoid, plugs and wires. It's frustrating lol I just wanna drive it
Oh wow, that is frustrating! I found a forum on that year model that has helped me in the past, and I’ll share the link. I was going to say replace the pickup coil in the distributor, but you replaced the whole thing, so that wouldn’t help. See if this helps: www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1522556-96-f250-351w-5-8-cranks-but-no-start-help.html
@@GrubNGas thanks for the link. Hopefully I can get it started soon lol
@@joeykimball5705 I hope so too! If not, reach out again and I’ll keep digging!
What’s the part number for those clean headlights?
Here ya go: amzn.to/3j5K1Dj
1990 f150 6 cylinders exentiom modular
Did you have to set your harmonic balancer
No, just had to adjust the position of the distributor:)
Was the gear made of steel or cast iron? I have the same year of bronco and motor
I think the gear was made of steel.
@@GrubNGas thank you!
@@tristingorsuch6058 you’re most welcome!
so you said the distributor was acting up, what was it doing? I have a 91 F150 that Ive changed every electrical component under the hood and I still have intermittent issues with whether it runs well or stumbles and runs rough or stalls. I was told to change distributor, so Im wondering what yours was doing...
Mine had no power, sluggish response in the accelerator pedal, and the exhaust manifolds were getting really hot.
What do you do if it’s frozen in? I just bought a 95 bronco with a 351 but can’t pull it out for the life of me I think it’s orginal
I don’t have a tried and true for you, but you can try to soak the edges where the distributor inserts into the block with some penetrant. Let it set for a day or so. Keep in mind that if the penetrant gets into the block you may want to change your oil to keep the engine safe.
What was wrong with the old distributor
I’m not entirely sure, but it lost all power, would start but barely run. Replaced it and the Bronco ran fine. Something internal went bad, and a new one was so cheap.
Can anyone tell me if this is exactly how you do the 4.9 I’m doing it now ? And I can’t find one the straight 6
I'm not sure on the 4.9, but you would use the same technique of making sure the rotor is pointed to the same spot as the old one to help dial in the timing faster.
Which distributor did you use?
This was a Cardone replacement from Advance Auto.
@@GrubNGas how has it held up for you? I think I'll be needing a distributor and cardone is the one I've been looking at
@@seth_owens so far, so good!
@@GrubNGas did you have to mess with the timing after installing it?
@@seth_owens yes, I had to move it around a bit. I didn’t use a timing light, but I definitely recommend it.
Is it the same way if the motor I got doesn't it have it 🤔
I’m not sure I understand…but this video is if you have a Ford V8 that takes this distributor. Hope that helps…
@@GrubNGas like the motor didn't come with the distributor do I have no way of knowing how it was set before hand
Ah ok! Here’s a link to a Ford forum that answers a lot of questions, more than I can type here: www.fordforums.com/threads/1993-f150-5-8-distributor-timing.203034/
