    With slight modifications you can run any car on moonshine. The problem is ethanol is not as stoimetricaly efficient as petroleum-based fuel. It is also more corrosive then petroleum-based fuels. Which is why the older vehicles didn't run properly. If you change the jetting on the carbureted 1970's vintage vehicle and change the injector size of the 90s vehicle. They would both run much much better I don't think the water being mixed in with the fuel would be an issue period at 4% and staying in suspension in the ethanol, it would be combusted along with the fuel actually turning into steam and cleaning the combustion chamber

      Keep in mind that that is the principle behind an intercooler, which is a high performance mod, so water isn't that bad. In fact, many older cars run better after a rain storm because of the humidity. Now I don't want to trigger you, I don't know if that was in your programming, but if you need to cope, just remind yourself that orange man bad. @@cplpetergriffin1583

      Actually the main reason the older cars didn't handle as well is because Gasoline today has ethanol mixed into it to make it burn more efficiently and create less waste. Newer cars are built to recognize this change and work with it.

    • @VulpesHilarianus
      @VulpesHilarianus 3 года назад +6

      @@BellaKarim23 Ethanol infused gasoline wasn't created specifically to burn more efficiently. It was created to reduce carbon dioxide emissions while still retaining similar energy density based on now disputed studies, and as a way to subsidize corn farmers. Europe stayed with diesel because they believed diesel created noticeably less carbon dioxide and nitrogen oxide (which has also now been long disproven) than ethanol. E15's no cleaner than straight 89 octane by any practical margin and the only reason it stays around is because bureaucracy moves slowly and modern electronically controlled ignition and variable valve timing make it so that the lesser energy density in E15 isn't a problem. If you notice E85 isn't even really promoted anymore because of all the studies proving it's no more efficient or clean than straight gasoline.

They used moonshine that was 80 percent shine and 20 percent gasoline it burns very fast when it is mostly moonshine or straight moonshine so they mixed it with a little bit of actual gasoline so they could stretch a gallon for almost 4 full tanks in their shine runner

    What I want to know is why the starting of the engine is affected at all. If they simply poured moonshine in the tank, the engine, fuel lines and pump are all still full of gasoline. It would take a lap or two around the track to use up the gas and pump actual moonshine to the engine.

    • @0xGRIDRUNR
      @0xGRIDRUNR Год назад +1

      ethanol has a lower energy density than traditional hydrocarbon based fuels, so you need more of the fuel combusting in the cylinders to get the engine up to idling speed from the cranking speed. On a car tuned for consuming ethanol, specifically E85, the stuff you would see at a gas station, it wouldn't be a problem. But on a car tuned for regular hydrocarbon based fuels, its going to expect to use less fuel to start the car, so you need to crank it longer.

As it was it’s set for pump gas, ethanol takes a bit extra spray for the same smooth result. Same with modern cars but you need to tune via computer.

    In engines with caburetors some of the water from the moonshine remains in the carb, so eventually the engine will stop ruinning. In cars with injectors all the moonshine (with the water) is injected into the engine, so the engine will (theoretically) keep running as long as there is enough alcohol in the moonshine to be able to combust. The engines struggle to start because Ethanol burns much slower than petrol, so the air/fuel mixture needs to be very rich for the car to start

    One of the cars I drive is a 2000 Chevy Blazer, I drive it every day and it only drinks E85. The motor has so much more power it amazes all my friends. It also has loud exhaust and it is way louder with E85. When I first started running E85, the exhaust stunk so badly that my wife wanted me to quit running E85 in it but now the smell has passed and it smells good, it actually smells sweet. When I first started running E85 it wouldn't start without me pouring real gasoline (with a 10% max ethanol content) in the intake this spell lasted for several weeks, but now it starts right up. The blazer also runs hotter, especially when pulling my trailer but not too hot ( the 2000 4.3 has steel heads). Contrary to what everyone says the fuel mileage is the same. I have been places and had to get regular gasoline (with a 10% max ethanol content) and you can tell a huge difference, no power and way quieter. In case anyone is curious, no mods except no cat and muffler was swapped for a thrush cherry bomb.
    P.S. I pay less than $2 per gal.

      Atomization isn’t what kept it from running. Ability to control AFR did . It takes %30-%40 more ethanol to run stoich over unleaded fuels. The car has to have an ethanol sensor to recognize this change before this can happen. The reason the Camaro had it is because it’s flexfeul capable from the factory. It’s an automatic which means it has the L99 motor which is in fact flex-fuel capable.The manual version of this car has the LS3 which isn’t flex-fuel capable from the factory.

    By 2013 in Cali (where Mythbusters was filmed), many gas stations had started putting 10% ethanol into gasoline to get rid of engine knock without needing tetraethyl lead, as well as to make the gasoline burn somewhat cleaner by having a tenth of it be something that burns cleaner, as well as to reduce the amount of petroleum used in gasoline.
    10% was chosen to avoid bugging cars like the older cars in the episode.
    So my guess is that modern cars made after the switchover to 10% ethanol are more capable of handling pure ethanol.
    Also, the original Ford Model T and Model A (and maybe other REALLY vintage cars) could run on non-gasoline fuels, including pure ethanol and even kerosene.
    With regards to diesel cars, the first diesel engine was intended to run on vegetable oil, and was demonstrated at the 1893 World's Fair with peanut oil. Diesel's inventor had considered when designing the diesel engine the possibility of people wanting to use non-petroleum fuels.
    Peanut oil compared to something like olive oil is quite thin. Putting vegetable oil in a diesel engine works best if you keep the fuel heated, though Peanut oil will require the least effort. Peanut oil in a diesel engine doesn't burn with the horrible diesel smell you get with petroleum diesel, and some say Peanut oil diesel exhaust smells somewhat like peanuts. It also burns cleaner than petroleum diesel.
    Also it's theoretically possible to make a carburetor replacement for a carbureted car that can better handle ethanol.

    run so well, is the air/fuel ratio.
    You need almost twice as much
    ethanol as gasoline.
    Injected cars, at least the newer
    ones have an O2 sensor in the

    combustion. If it is running lean,

    IT IS CLEAR...... that adjustments HAVE to be made to the carburetor when using alcohol. Since it is a dense liquid, the float inside the carburetor needs to be weighed down a little more. Providing enough fuel to motor.
    I stopped watching myth-busters a long ass time ago, because they can never do shit right in there projects. Its like they purposely set up there projects to fail. When clearly many others seem to prove these guys wrong.
    Kind of like there super large speaker inside car myth.
    they used a little gear motor? That has nothing to do with a real speaker. so there was never enough force to shatter the windows.
    Really good 2 - 15's can shatter a front window. because of the speaker coil's, driver, and magnet.
    Im off topic now, but its clear these guys are losers.

    • @AJvsEverything
      @AJvsEverything 7 лет назад +5

      Fab Social It's not simply a float adjustment that needs to happen, you need roughly 30% more alcohol to get a proper air fuel ratio to match the btu output of gasoline...which means you'd need to completely rejet the carb and tune everything from scratch, along with the timing curve and accelerator pump...

    • @KefkaTheDemiGod
      @KefkaTheDemiGod 7 лет назад +11

      Fab Social You're entitled to your opinion, but in this case you're missing the point. The myth was to see if you can run a car, unaltered, on moonshine. Messing with the carburetor, even if it would make it work, would go against the details of the myth.
      Nobody is saying it wouldn't work like you say it would, but I am saying that it wouldn't be the same myth. Because people alter cars to use pure ethanol all the time, but that wasn't what they were testing.

    • @ineedpineapples

      Yeah and that makes the myth busted for carbonated cars. The myth was that it was possible for a normal car so that means no flex-fuel and no modifications. They even point that out. That a car that is properly tuned for it can run on ethanol just fine.
      In that speaker myth the result was valid. The speakers get their energy from the engine so no matter what you do the amount of power can never exceed the engine output. They proved that a car can't detonate like you saw in the movie.
