  • Me at the film location used as Robin’s Nest on O’ahu, Hawaii… The posh estate home of private investigator, Thomas Magnum, on the popular 1980s television show “Magnum P.I." (Note: The grounds are private property, so these are the best shots I could get from points around the estate that are public property). ...Just a few places I've been.

Oh man, that's great! Love your video. This mansion really is the 'mecca' for all "Magnum, p.i." fans :-) But please tell me, the thing that really intrigues me; how did you get the chance to enter this beautiful classic property? I mean, you even were able to film the gate with the nice turtle on it in operation.
    Thank you in advance!
    Greetings from Germany :)

Thanks for watching!! "Robin's Nest" is private property, so all my video shots came from outside the fence. Unfortunately, this is why I was not able to get better footage of the main house. However, I got lucky with what looked to me as real estate professionals showing people the property. I just happened to be filming out front when they arrived... That's how I scored the shots of the gate opening. I was stoked!!

Jim Ed Hardaway Hey, that must have been really cool :) Interesting about the real estate professionals.. as far as I know the property was sold to Marty Nesbitt (a close friend of Obama) using some organisation, maybe trying to hide who's really behind it... and since Obama is from Waimanalo, one could assume there's a connection. However, in that case it wouldn't really make sense for real estate agents to show the property to people... Is it possible that these guys maybe actually were secret service? They wear suits, too :D

Were realtors there recently or did you film this when it was for sale. Nice video, thanks!

They weren't in suits... Just an educated guess that they were real estate agents. No idea really. I was just happy they made the gate open so I could film it! :)

And hate to inform you gents but it is all now gone. So far I could find no reason for this being done. Landmark since 1933. Subbed and yes great post.

Oh, boy, How I miss so bad the 80's... great theme songs, great shows..! Nowadays, they sadly seem to have lost their criativity..!

Wow, I had no idea it had fallen into such disrepair (and now torn down). Such a shame. I'm not a big "if I won the lottery...." daydreamer, but I always thought I would definitely have bought this place. Thanks for posting!

I loved that show, they could have maintained that for a tourist attraction people would have flocked there. Charge 10- 15 dollars it would have paid for its self.

Nice footage, but it's apparent that the property was in disrepair. Too bad they could not have saved the old structures, somehow.

And now robin's nest is destroyed. So we have only Magnum pi, this video and some others to keep memory of this place.

Believe it or not "Robins Nest" was already in really bad shape from salt damage when Magnum PI was being filmed from 1980-1988. The majority of filming was done outside and the inside scenes were done at the studio. I was in Waimanolo Hawaii in the early 1980's and met Tom Selleck and John Hillerman filming next door to "Robin's Nest". The show was called "Foiled Again". Was a very memorable day

Great video! In 2016, a friend of mine was on vacation in Hawaii and had a bout of insomnia, so he took a ride in his rental car around 5:00 AM on a Sunday. He said he had no idea where he was going but ended up at the little park down the street and thought he would take an early morning swim. He got down to the beach and started talking with some locals who told him the Magnum PI house was just down the beach. He thought they were pulling his leg, so he walked down and as soon as he saw the boat house, he knew they were telling the truth. He said he didn't know what came over him but he jumped the chain link fence and went onto the property. He said that he was able to actually get into the boat house and the gate house as they weren't locked. He said they were completely empty but smelled really moldy inside. He said he walked over to the main house and found a back door open so he did a quick tour of the house. It was also empty and he said that all of the rooms except for the living room were really small and the inside was nothing like in the TV show. After he was in the main house, he realized that he didn't have his camera and had left his cell phone in the trunk of his rental car, so he had no evidence of his trespassing adventure. He said he hopped the gate that was mostly shown in the show and thought about going back to get his phone to document his experience but just then a pick-up truck drove onto the property. He said he was on the property for all of 20 minutes but kicked himself for not bringing his phone with him. I only have his word for this but it doesn't seem that far fetched as the place had been empty for some time even before Ms. Anderson sold the property to Marty Nesbitt in 2015. The latest news on the property is that the current owners have secured permits to divide the property into two parcels with two houses planned for one parcel and one house for the other parcel. On a side note, no one will be able to visit the Robin's Nest depicted in the re-boot as it's a CGI image and no real house actually exists.

Lucky he could have been arrested.....back in the day they had green netting by the hwy where you could not look through the trees at the house when filming was going on there...

Man they really let the house go. You think the land and house would have value and somebody would own it and maintain it. It's almost sad because I watch magnum PI and you see the house in it's hey day ad you see it now all dirty and delapidated. It's reminds me of how nice life was back in the 80's.
