Reminiscing about the 80’s! Thursday night was my favorite night of the week. First Magnum was on, then Simon & Simon followed by Knots Landing. Wish I could go back. Thanks for the video! Watching Magnum on TV right now.
I got a nice opportunity to meet Tom Selleck and John Hillerman in the winter of 1982 on the property that's next door to the left side of the Magnum PI driveway entrance where the big gate was. They were in that next door property filming "Foiled Again" where John Hillerman and Tom Selleck we're filming. I got to see TC's Volkswagen bus, the Ferrari some of the guest stars. Tom was pretty quiet, and John Hillerman was really a very sweet man, comes from Texas and has no English accent. We got to know one of the body guards and he gave us Magnum PI baseball caps and we had them autographed. Is such great memories
I'm still watching Magnum today it's still a great show. it's sad to think robin's nest is gone now. would love to have a swim or have a go on the surf ski to do some thinking :-) the tidal pool still looks great..
Thanks for posting. In addition to steady camera work while in the water, I so enjoyed the accompanying, soothing sound of the gentle water. One thing's abundantly clear: Magnum's swimming exercise could be done right here at Robin's Nest. However, every time he goes for a jog on a wide, sandy beach he's gotta hop in the Ferrari and take a bit of a drive to get to one. That I didn't figure on. Personally, I had driven by during previous trips to the Islands, but the property was not accessible to the public and out of view from the highway. So, this footage is welcome; and to most I'm sure. And even more so now that the edifice was razed in '18. I'm not so surprised that the previous owner(s) tired of the house and sold it, but that a deep-pocketed newcomer didn't step in and make it her/his playground and showplace for a few more years. This year (2019) I bought the early '80s' seasons 2 & 3 on DVD. Despite the frequent "whining" of Magnum, which seems a bit adolescent and annoying coming from a 38-year old man, the hours are usually enjoyable. I'll offer that if the show was set in L.A. or Miami Beach -- Denver, Chicago, New York, etc. for that matter -- it would not have been nearly as enjoyable and successful. Despite the considerable talents of the four leads, their immense, attractive co-star, Oahu, was a significant contributing draw. ed. Oh, the charming, relaxing wonders of the Aloha Spirit.
Thank You For The Video, I Appreciate It. The Tidal Pool Is Beautiful. One Of The Best Features Of The Property. I Was Shocked At The Disrepair Of The Property, They Should Have Been Ashamed If Themselves. It Is My Understanding It Was Native Owned Even Prior To The Filming Of Magnum PI. I Would Love To Have Seen A Video Tour Of The Inside. Let Me Know If You Find One. I Would Love To See It.
@@pjmiller8632 yes i undrestand you i am magnum fan also but that house is 90 years old small he could not only repair half house understand.inside new outside old.new owner want bigger house and lot of space Lot of memories😟but 2018 robin nest is destroyed i dont know how look like new robin nest now.
The house was totally unsafe from salt damage. Also the surrounding community did not want the Robin Master Estate to be turned into a Tourist Trap in their quiet private community, the estate was built in a neighborhood, not a business area
Great video, thanks for sharing! I was there this past New Years and it looks like the gate and fencing has been changed since your visit. There's some video of it on my channel if you want to compare . . .
Business man Martin Nesbitt purchased it for the Obama's. Asking price was $20 million but got it for $8.2 million. The home structure was to unsafe to save, the sea salt destroyed everything because it wasn't cared for because the previous owner passed away. A lot of beautiful memories ❤️
Yeah , it was really not in the beautiful state it once was. Since Ive made this video some other people have posted and I see they have put up a better fence and cleaned up a bit. Thats what memories and imagination are for I suppose :) I just tried to remember how it was . One old time local told me they would have trucks and trucks of landscaping plants delivered. We just did not realize all the tricks they were doing back in the 80s I guess. Hahahahaha
Such a shame to leave such an estate rot away as if it was a 1000 dollar shed. They could have at least let someone live in the guesthouse for free in change for maintenance of the entire propperty, and then it would have bin worth alot more than the 15 milion someone payed for it and torn it down. Hell, they even could have made a couple of milions when they would have made it a tourist attraction, but that's all to late now.
It’s odd how the houses were built so close to the water that stone walls were needed. Who not back up the property 50 ft so you can actually have a usable beach?
I lived Honolulu for 19 years and have been to all the islands except for the 2 that are off limits.....I should have stopped there back in the day and swam there.....no longer gonna dry dat with da man living there now.....I did go to Waimanalo Beach dozens of times at the AFB there.....I am moving back in 24 to die there and I mean it in a good way....my HOME...
It should have been a shrine and would have been hugely successful. The idiots that are responsible for this are fools. They could have made tours available for pre-booking at the home-owner's convenience, such as they do in Europe. My guess is that a wealthy Chinese family likely bought this, and because they do not prefer nor respect historic homes in North America - they did not live here. Even after buying the home in great shape originally. They bided their time for years until they were able to secure U.S. citizenship, and then bulldozed this lovely home after allowing vandals to attack it for several years. This is what we commonly see being played out in every single neighbourhood now across both Canada and many areas of the U.S. It should not be permitted. These perfectly good and often historic homes should be cared for, kept up and not permitted to be destroyed - by anyone.
The home was owned for years by the eve anderson trust..she had been a local politician from a very Wealthy family..why no one lived their for decades ..is the burning question...

Thx for posting. This kind of stuff is fascinating. Rip john hillerman.
April 2018 , the house was torn down :(.. Im glad I made this video. I wish somebody would have filmed the inside of it...I suppose we will never know
The inside of the house was not laid out like the set on the show, but it can be seen in season one, and on the original Hawaii 5-0.
Looks like you're standing in the water while filming?

Thanks for sharing, the hallmark channel is airing the original series now everyday, the new series does not hold up to the original....
I loved that show its disappointing that no one restored the building to how it was so many great tv shows in the 80s music film what happened today
Legendary robin nest🌊🏝 where is zeus and apollo🙂
Very sad to see it in such a bad condition and in another video even how it was demolished. What a shame!
No beach club anymore?
looks like the Pacific Ocean came through the guest house....
Too bad someone could have bought it and kept it going. My favourite show on tv.
Watching Magnum right now. Wish I could go back in the 80’s & just stop time.
2:59 “Zeus!!…Apollo!!”
Where's the big square stone?
Warum hat man das Anwesen nicht erhalten? Es hat Filmgeschichte geschrieben. Als Pilgerort !? So ein Anwesen reißt man doch nicht ab !!!!
Genau
Sad to see it torn down. Wish I knew about it when I was over there.
Magnums age seems abit of a mystery..different contrary ages are given during the series...
Watching it right now.
It’s odd how the houses were built so close to the water that stone walls were needed. Who not back up the property 50 ft so you can actually have a usable beach?
It's a sea wall...mandatory in Hawaii.. because of erosion..the original house is actually a good walk to the water and beach...
Nice
What’s the point of a tidal pool? Does it protect from rip currents and stuff like that?
Way back in the old days it was built to hold sea turtles. A Hawaiian King liked them as food. It was a type of cage so to speak.
excellent
I want to swim there!
dommage une telle propriété pour terminer comme cela!!!!!
They should have saved it
It's a Hawaiian fish pond in front of the house
NOT like that anymore since BO and NESBITTS have bought the land and are having a compound built there.

So nobody is even going to mention the sign saying private property GUARD DOGS ON DUTY?!
I'm surprised nobody wanted to buy magnum p I house so sad
