Hi thanks for the video! I am going to Oahu in a week and so excited to check out these spots! Question, were you ever concerned of sharks when you were snorkeling 40 yards off the shore?
I would say seeing sharks is a risk every time you go out snorkeling! We have seen some several times while out snorkeling other places, but not in Hawaii so far!! We always make sure we are aware of our surroundings and refreshed on our “shark safety” (One Ocean Diving is so great at sharing info and resources!!) just in case. That being said, most sharks are a lot safer than we sometimes think of - shark attacks are rare and doing some things such as avoiding splashing and being aware of your surroundings definitely help mitigate more risk!!

Awesome video guys! Next time you are on the Big Island of Hawai’i, make sure to stop at Tex Drive Inn for what i consider to be the BEST malasadas ever. It’s near Waipio Valley, right off the main highway. You will not be disappointed, you will be addicted.

Amazing video - well done! What did you do with your valuables and car keys while snorkeling? As a victim of smash & grab when in Hawaii, I’m very curious how you both get in the water at the same time.
Nooo!! Ahh that is terrible. This vacation we traveled with family we could switch off with. But at Hanauma Bay we just left our things on the beach and didn’t have a problem - but that’s not a “public” beach so I wasn’t as worried!

We stayed at the Aston in Waikiki and at the Marriott Ko’Olina. We usually use Hertz for rental car!
Loved the video, how restrictive was the drone usage. Wasn't sure if I was going to take mine.
I would say Hawaii is in the "medium" range for restrictions --pros8.hnl.info/hanauma-bay
You can't fly in any state parks, and then just the normal restrictions with line of sight, restricted airspace, etc
Altogether, pretty worth it though :) Lots of beautiful places to capture!!

Amazing travel video, question, what hotels/areas did you stay at during this trip?
We did half the time in Waikiki and the other half at the Marriott Ko Olina! Waikiki is great for proximity to great food and other activities (plus can find more affordable hotel options), Ko Olina is great for that relaxing resort experience, but is a bit farther out. Definitely pros/cons to each depending on what you’re looking for!
I guess they say Shave Ice not shaved ice - going first time this April- I don’t want to frustrate the locals 😊😊
Great video! Just a few things, Manoa Falls is not in Waikiki, Christmas Hat actually called Chinaman’s Hat and Pillbox is in Kailua not close to Electric Beach in Waianae.

We bought some that we can easily throw in our suitcase and bring with us to every beach!! We have a Speedo brand that we like, and the other I can’t Remember the brand! I would just definitely recommend getting a set with fins and a case to keep everything together!! And a valve at the top of the snorkel to help Keep out water. I will say sometimes masks are tricky for finding the right sizing/fit for your face shape so if you’re worried about that you can go to a dive shop and get fitted, but you’ll likely spend more money for that! We use our basic snorkels all the time and have not problem!

I think this is one of the best travel videos i have seen! Is sharks cove some place you can snorkel in the winter? Also, is hanama bay worth the money and hassle or is there just a good of snorkel spots on the island in the winner
Thank you!! I would assume sharks cove is year round, but not sure! Hanama Bay is half and half for me… it’s a hassle to get scheduled, but the fish are really big and not afraid of humans which is great! The bay is beautiful and super calm! So great for beginners, kids, or just ease! However, it’s kind of murky and busy - and you have to pay. So I think it’s fun to do, but I probably wouldn’t go back and do it every time I went.

Great video ! Did you stay in one accommodation ? We want to go to Oahu next year and don‘t know if we need one base at oahu or if we need more accommodation maybe north and south. What would you recommend ?
We usually stay in one location when we visit Oahu, but in this video we were there a bit longer so stayed in Waikiki and Ko Olina!
A lot of people stay in Waikiki which is conveniently by a lot of restaurants and beaches, but is much more busy and there can be traffic. Ko olina is great if you’re looking to do more of a “resort” vacation where you stay nearby, but it is a drive to other locations.
All-in-all, it’s not a huge island so you can plan your day around doing activities in a certain part of the island and it’s not a problem and you can still do everything! However, if you are trying to avoid more driving, then splitting up your stay would also work great! Doing Waikiki a few days and North Shore a few days would be very fun and have a nice contrast of pace 😊

We decided not to hike to Manoa Falls, because the end result is barely a water fall. Diamond Heqd hike is way better. Great Ohau guide guys!
True!! I would definitely say the appeal of Monoa Falls is more in being in the lush green rather than the waterfall! Diamond head lacks the lush green but loved those views!!
It flows more after a period of rain, the fall flow varies
Get scuba certified, it’s way better than snorkeling!!
We actually are scuba certified and love it!! The ease of snorkeling is unmatched though 👌 you might enjoy seeing some of our Fiji dives!!
Seems like it was a little tough to get a shot of you AND the sharks. Did one ocean let you dive a lot or were they quite restrictive? I hear other companies let you swim around and not hold the side of the boat
You can only dive one at a time, but they give you lots of opportunities to go dive down!! I think they were great since we are in open water with sharks - definitely would recommend!!
On the way you did the home this the snorkeling or the things I want to know how deep is that water because I’m taking my grandbaby to Hawaii this summer and I wanted her to look at the the fishes in the water but she’s only six so I need to know how deep and how is it safe enough for her to go in the water?❤
I would definitely recommend she wear a life jacket!! Hanauma bay would probably be the best to take her snorkeling - lifeguard on duty, calm waters, more shallow, and lots of fish right near the shore!! She will love it!!
Swimming with sharks? Nope. But I’m glad you had a good experience. I try my best not to swim with sharks on Cape Cod I wouldn’t pay to do it in Hawaii. 😄 But there were many other wonderful choices in this video.
Did you have your own snorkeling gear?
Yes!! We have our own set we like to bring with us, but I am sure there are good rentals available on the island!

We stayed at the Aston Sunset at Waikiki. Not sure I would highly recommend. The location was pretty good. It is definitely a more budget option compared to the other options in Waikiki!

7 days is not enough time in Hawaii, even for just one island. Minimum stay when I go is 10 days.

I love PNWers being unimpressed with Hawaii's waterfalls. A 2 mile hike to a waterfall equivalent to a dozen on the side of the freeway on Snoqualmie pass.

I hope to one day visit Hawaii but I follow surfers from the islands and love the culture. Your video was great, but halfway in I stopped watching because you appear to have broken the law by approaching closer than 10 feet to the turtle in the reef. Also, it’s shave ice, not “shaved ice”. You did fine on the Hawaiian word but ironically had trouble with the English word. 😄

We have visited before and had a great experience! However, tickets for Pearl Harbor sell out very far in advance.
