As far as affordability, I was able to get into my first Tesla by buying a used one on their website! FSD, fully loaded all wheel drive…I have Tesla insurance and it’s cheaper than what I paid to insure my 2003 Subaru!

      Insurance.
The next industry ripe for disruption.
      .
When "The other guy" sends an accident report and his insurance company sees he hit a Tesla, they simply won't bother contesting the full suite of data they know is coming their way to demonstrate the Tesla driver was not at fault.
      .
The moment that starts to happen, those other companies may as well give up.
      .
Even if it's an 80:20 ratio, they can't win.

The beauty of a Tesla is that it keeps getting better the longer you own it. Its incredible what they can do with the OTA updates. Its a pity that the media can't or rather won't recognise what happens when Tesla has a total recall.

@@fractalelf7760 There is actually some real data now because we actually have out of warranty Teslas since 2014 + 8 years = 2022. Some people in Norway paid $US 8,500 w/o tax for an 85kWh battery including labor. The battery comes with a four year or 80000 km warranty or about 50,000 football field miles. That seems on track with Elon claiming M3 packs will be less than $6k to replace. Over time batteries get cheaper, and will do so for several decades yet.

Extremely intelligent engineers and scientists are almost autistic with their lack of emotion. Advertising is completely emotion-based. Assuming these "big-brains" best know how to advertise and educate the public is ridiculous! I don't think there's ever been a company who needs both more PR to reverse the negative sentiment of the Tesla brand and more education-based advertising to convince the millions of car buyers who still purchase ICE vehicles due to the sheer ignorance of the true value prop of EVs.

OTOH, the fact that median-priced new car buyers are opting for ICE vehicles instead of queuing for a Tesla shows that most people are not informed enough to make good purchasing decisions. That's where advertising helps and would allow Tesla to not cut prices so much.
Not advertising made a lot of sense when Tesla wasn't producing more than a million cars each year, and demand exceeded supply by a large margin. But those days are gone and won't be coming back for the 3/Y.

While I was in Architecture school I developed a thing I called "Colin Kelley's Law of Elegant Simplicity" which goes like this: "The more complicated and vast a problem is, the more you have to clime up to a higher level of elegant simplicity to solve it." This is what Musk and Tesla have been doing. They have made it look easy, but the closer they get, the harder it becomes. It is like starting off with barbells, but then leading up to bench pressing 500 lbs. Each year is more difficult than the year before. They have come a long way, but this may end up being their most challenging year yet. They are not "going down hill yet". They are still "going up a steep hill".

When people are endlessly frustrated by the constant unfair attacks on Elon, we need to self-assure that the fundamentals are sound as no other, plan is still getting executed and future is brilliant.
I don't believe there is any significant global warming, and surely not antropogenic. But that cannot discourage me from vision of the future where I can produce own electricity from solar panels on my roof and charging my car from this system, and keeping the air clean.
At the end, X will be mega profitable, and we Tesla fans will be glad that Elon bought it.

Great summary of the situation with one exception. Advertising: There is a huge portion of the market that is inundated with negative media... and they believe it! There's also another huge portion of the population that is very uneducated on Tesla's and EV's in general. There is a huge opportunity to educate the public and de-bunk FUD. No other vehicle makers suffers the way Tesla does, so this opportunity is Tesla's alone. This creates outsized advertising opportunities for Tesla! However, their advertising hasn't been aimed in this direction. I hate to say it but they need to go through legacy media channels to reach this group of people. The ads need to clearly address women and elderly, not Tesla fan boys like us. Do this and advertising will steal ICE sales which is a very large market to tap.

  • @dharenchadha
    @dharenchadha 3 месяца назад

Farzad, thank you for doing this. It clarifies a lot and is educational. Also let me say first of all that I am an Elon admirer, a Tesla shareholder and am rooting for it to accomplish its mission.
That said, ever wonder why the Model Y outsells the Model 3 by volume? If a lower price puts more cars on the road, how come the Model 3 sells less by volume than the Model Y? Also, why is the iPhone the largest selling smartphone on the planet by volume even though it’s the most expensive?
The answer is because these sorts of product categories are about self-expression. People will save on other things to buy a product that helps them make a statement about themselves, that tells the world the kind of person they are or aspire to be. Affordability is not the only road to volume leadership in this sort of category. Of course Tesla could take a multi segment approach and have a car for every pocket but it could still be the most aspirational car in each segment.
The point is advertising will overcome the massive barrier of lack of knowledge in this situation. It will grow the EV segment and also let people know why the Tesla is the best EV they can buy. It will build both volume and profitability. And it will even reinforce the attitudes of existing customers who will become even stronger advocates. What’s not to like?

The sheer brilliance of FSD V12 is the two aspects.
The first and most difficult is HOW do you train a neural network? By doing this piece-by-piece they broke it down into byte-sized pieces (pun intended!). The fact is that the software to do that is highly proprietary and NOT in any of the vehicles, it is only in the training compute cluster The fact that this is now end-to-end neural nets and video training is brilliant and lends itself very well to extending these neural nets to many different applications, including vehicles and robots and ???.
The second aspect is that the neural nets developed via the training system(s) can then be downloaded, after internal regression testing, in a staged fashion, to all the instances of the end use products (cars and robots at this time). These instances don't necessarily do any field training of the neural nets, but definitely capture, and transmit back to Tesla, field neural network performance feedback.
This enables neural nets to be developed for many different usage scenarios. For example, owned passenger cars, offroad pickups, robo-taxis, short-haul trucks, long-route trucks, assembly-line Optimi, household tasks Optimi, security guard Optimi, Tesla Semi load/unload worker Optimi, Amazon delivery Optimi, Wait staff Optimi, Home Deport or Lowes shelf inventory/stocking Optimi, etc., etc., etc. To quote from The Matrix, do you know how to pilot this helicopter? Not yet... download new neural network... yes.

I think most long term shareholders are aware of the mission and goal. Just the communication has recently been a little not aligned to acceleration. Hence the worries from the markets of a slow-down in growth. Seems there is some hesitancy to put the pedel to the metal probably due to macro but maybe overly cautious, IMO.

Farzad you do your homework and I need your help. Anytime I tell family about EVs and Tesla they tell me how bad the mining is for the battery materials. Could you do a short video explaining what’s happening? Thanks 🙏

I believe what people aren’t seeing is that Tesla & indeed most EV manufacturers are battery cell volume constrained. At the moment they are selling as many cars as they are making batteries for. Once Tesla are confident they can produce enough battery cells to keep up with sales demand after advertising that’s exactly what they will do.

Random thought, since the exterior of the cyber truck is conductive, could the powered frunk be set to reverse if someone touches areas that could result in pinched fingers?

Tesla has a quite ingenious strategy towards regulators: next year the fleet we turn on will be double, the next year it will be 4x as large, as the one today, in 5 years it will be 20x. No point in waiting. Better to allow it now, than put so many drivers out of a job at once.

I'm not sure you noted this Farzad, but Tesla is also building and selling the necessary platform to enable the future sale of FSD to new customers. Ultimately the bigger profit may be the FSD sale.

10:40 the tesla strategy is not a "car" strategy so much as the classic internet network effect at play. the first player in tech had a huge advantage in that the cost of dumping old tech, is high. You have to learn new stuff. Once people get used to an OS they stick with it. Once many people use it, the economies of scale are better, and the leader can obtain an unbeatable advantage. Ford might make a car just as good as model-Y, but its different, and the tesla drivers don't want to relearn the interface, when tesla is already good enough.
Teslas's strategy to get market share will take advantage of going to autonomy, but it doesn't rely on it.
You have already a lot of (6?) giant companies that are software first. But the software is typically tied to an OS. With more hardware,
the lock is stronger. You're still in software sales(publishing) but your lock on the customer is stronger. Publishing is great business because you sell many times, but you still own it.

If more data was so important for developing this groundbreaking breakthrough Tesla would offer fsd beta for free to all of its customers.
Instead Tesla charges over $10,000 and brings in a relatively insignificant sum. Actions speak louder than words.

@@brianp8384are they actually using that data though? Is the car actually identifying points that it can’t handle (disengagements)?
I haven’t heard that the system is running that way in the background. But in any event I don’t buy their line about data being the salve to this situation.
