I have been using Delvac since purchasing my 6.7 Cummins and had my oil analyzed by black stone. Currently have 112k miles on my 2010 Big Horn. The oil sample I sent in was 5k miles and a year old and they told me to go as long as 8k miles on the oil because at 5k miles and towing occasionally, the oil did not show significant enough breakdown. Although they recommended longer intervals, I will continue 5k intervals as that is what im comfortable with.
For me, the issue with so-called semi-synthetic or blended synthetic lube oils is there are no industry or marketing standards that dictate the percentage of synthetic lubricant to be blended into the product. You may get just 1% to the blend. IMO, it's a feel good marketing ploy. For me it's either 100% synthetic lube oil or none at all.
Good video sir. I use the Mobil Delvac extreme 15w40 and have had it black stone analyzed. It has a great additive package. Better than any of the other oils I’ve tested including Rotella T6 5w40 and 15w40, also better than valvoline premium blue 15w40. I will continue to use this oil in my 6.7 Cummins as it’s cheap only slightly more expensive than the delvac 1300.
Marion, I've watched about all of your videos concerning the your 2500 Ram. I own a 2010 3500 dually that i purchased new. I have always had it serviced at the dealer. I begin watching your videos, and completed the oil change, not to bad on the 2010. Today I changed the fuel filter, only one on the 2010 thank goodness. What a job, to be honest, i don't think I would have tackled this without your help, on the video. I completed it with a few choice words and everything turned out great. I hope you realize what a teacher you are. I just wanted to say thank you. I have every fluid change ahead of me, with you videos, i think I will get them completed. Did you do your transmission service, i have not found it? Thanks again.
It is odd when companies change labels on you. Never sure if they did it just for branding or if the product changed. I use Valvoline Premium Blue because it is endorsed by Cummins.
Sohio aka standard oil of Ohio ( now defunct) had an oil called Nitrex it was 5-40 in the oil seminar I went to in 1975 no mention of synthetic was made . My recollection of synthetic didn’t come for a few years later ( Klotz) was earliest I can recall. Keep up the good work as I still use your videos as reference material
I am a Valvoline fan for over 30 years and I’ve been using the Valvoline Premium blue full synthetic 5w40 and I plan on getting the oil tested at next oil change.
I’ve been told my 5th gen Cummins motor prefers 5w40 T6 particularly from the dealer since new. All testing shows T6 to be a very long lasting lubricating oil so I stick with it- especially with Colorado cold weather
Mr. Blair, have you changed your serpentine belt yet? I know the maintenance schedule says 100k miles, but with your truck being about 10 years old now, will you do it before 100k miles? thanks.

Exactly. You can bet the percentage of the synthetic is a hell of a lot lower then the mineral based oil .

Thanks for the kind words, no transmission yet but I'm going to have to do that soon.

They all got additives so they're all a syn blend. And all Synthetic has a base oil. It's all marketing.

No, but I probably need to. Thanks for the reminder.
