    Appreciate your videos. For the specifications, it’s good to refer to your manual. 2019-2023 were redesigned. These models use ultra sonic sensors instead of the older radio frequency sensors. So space is needed for the newer models to register through that sensor. If it’s over filled, there is no space for the ultra sonic waves to detect levels. For 5th Gen Ram’s with a Cummins, the recommended DEF level is no more then 3/4 and no less then 1/4. I fill my rig when I’m at 1/4 tank. One box of DEF fluid brings it to 3/4 tank. It’s worked so far.

    I think that is good advice. I tend to use the less expensive DEF when I am towing cross country and add the Platinum when I am rolling around to work and back. Who knows if it really helps but in this day and age it makes me “feel” better. 😂😂

    What about the DEF you can get out of the pumps at the big truck stop gas stations like Maverick, is it any good? It's about the same cost per gallon as the fuel they sell.

    • @MarionBlair
      @MarionBlair  Год назад

      I think the jugs/ box DEF (Peak/ Walmart etc...) is likely to be cleaner as we don't know how many tanks/ trucks the DEF goes thru from the plant to the truck stops, but I've run the pump DEF and all the 18 wheelers do. Some would say the pump DEF is fresher since it may be higher volumes used. I'll stick with the jug/ box if I have a choice.

    • @SaboSells
      @SaboSells Год назад +1

      @@MarionBlair I appreciate your opinion that you "think they might" be cleaner, but at $7-$12 per gallon vs. $3.50-$5 per gallon at the pump, I've never noticed any difference so I'll stick to the pumps. It's not only cheaper but more convenient because you can just fill up and not have to guess at how much you need and I don't spill as much using the pump.

    I am on my 3rd reductant tank heater/pump. 2016 LML 2500 duramax. Extended special policy thru chevy (120,000 miles or 10 years whichever comes first). Use OEM Def and never allow to go less than 25%. 6000 to 7000 miles/year on truck. Presently 45,550 miles.

    Thanks for the video. In northern latitudes, say >60, it's recommended to not fill above 50% due to freezing issues. 2019 Ram 3500, 20,000 km, in the shop with a failed DEF pump... waiting for the part, 1 week so far, with no expected date of arrival.

    That's why I keep mine full in the winter (I don't drive mine in the winter months and salt). An effort to keep the moisture out of the tank.

    Agreed, I am using a box a year so just blend in the new with the existing. I only use the truck when I need a truck. I followed your lead and started using the Platinum.

    I’ve been unable to drive let alone walk because of a damn tick giving me Lyme disease and my 2018 ram 3500 Cummins has been sitting un started for 10 mo now and i worry about the def going bad and eventually having to dry start the engine. Likely to be another 12-18 mo before the possibility of driving again 😢. Batteries have been on maintainer since parking.
    Not sure how things may turn out. Hate to ruin a 38,000 mi pickup!
    Thanks for the video once again 🍻

    Im in the same boat. I have not put any DEF in my truck, had it just over a year but hardly drive it. So the gauge is on 1/4 and was going to add a box of the platinum. At my local Walmart every box of platinum had crystallization around the cap. The standard Blue Def did not. So maybe go to another Walmart?

    • @crowman5936
      @crowman5936 Год назад

      All the boxes I get have a little crystallization around the cap. I think it's just a little spillage from the factory filling the jugs up and it dries on the fill area. Nothing to worry about.

    • @philjohnson482

      @@crowman5936 I thought the platnium had additives to prevent crystalization. The regulat Blue Def hand clean caps
