Hey guys! First, the "censored" boss is NOT who you think it is. It's just a normal boss from the ScareScraper. Secondly, to the "nostalgia goggles" peeps. I literally replayed and reviewed the original game just a year ago: ruclips.net/video/FuzmHDogdHU/видео.html
@@bluespidrlily Him doing his job as a reviewer and bringing up genuine flaws with a game instead of giving everything Nintendo pumps out a 9 means that they are getting "iffy"? Don't be such a fanboy.
@@bluespidrlily Andre's reviews have always been that way. I wouldn't say hes nitpicky or anything like that but he is always a little more harsh on games than Derrick/Jon/Ash are. I don't think its a bad thing at all really. Thats just how he reviews games.
the slam is a cool idea but it seems like being able to do it so many times in succession was the wrong move. in dark moon the powered-up suction would never completely take out a ghost in one shot. I might see if only using it once or twice at a time feels any better EDIT: never mind, folks. i've since completed the game and the slam rocks. i think, even if catching ghosts has a bit less depth than in previous games (which i'd already say is debatable) the sheer number of options luigi has in terms of interacting with his surroundings more than makes up for it
Jordan Murray The first game’s combat is all about getting control. You must’ve not played it right because it’s really easy to get control and a lot of fun.
@@Murr248 yeah, cant really disagree there, i am honestly still not entirely sure what the most effective method of catching ghosts in the first one is supposed to be, no matter what it always felt like I was doing something wrong either way i can't feel like this will be a dealbreaker for me, the big reel in 3 seems to be the atmosphere and character and bosses so im fine if the smaller combat takes a backseat
@@PaintraSeaPea I mean i think a game like Mario can have easy combat functions if they decided to add a hard secret Mansion. That's one thing I liked about the first game. Either that or it'll be like Kirby Star Allies. The game is easy yet still fun to play in short bursts
My only complaint is the music. I love Koji Kondo’s orchestral sound but I much rather prefer Kazumi Tokata’s creepy techno and electronic beats from the original LM.
Tokata definitely was the best composer for the series. I mean, removing him from Luigi's Mansion is like removing Koji Kondo from Super Mario. Something will always feel off.
I didn't even think about that! You're right. As soon as I read your comment I VIVIDLY heard those weird bass and theremin noises. As a kid I loved the sound design. It was really different from other Nintendo games. I probably watched the intro sequence for the game dozens of times and the music really sold the tone.
MATHPC 40 Yeah, Andre kinda let nostalgia blind him on this one. Hopefully other outlets will judge this game by its own merits, rather than it’s predecessors.
I think if someone "liked" a game, there's a very high chance someone else could like it a lot or love it. Rating systems, at the end of the day, are one person's feelings on the matter, rather than a definitive score by which the game must always be measured. Other people will probably hate this game, others will probably love it. It's ultimately up to us to decide whose opinions we let affect us, and what will determine our purchase.
I really love Luigi’s Mansion but hope the combat isn’t completely broken by the Slam. I loved the “tug-of-war” fights of the previous games. Edit- After playing the game I can confidently say it’s worth your 60$. The slam is actually pretty fun to pull off and still really satisfying.
Enoch Zoldyck The Luigi’s Mansion games haven’t really been known for their difficulty unless you’re going for the best possible rank. So if this game doesn’t interest you based on it then the others most likely won’t either.
Enoch Zoldyck True, but I don’t think those aspects take away from the game very much. Especially when LM’s always been more about, at least to me, the exploration, atmosphere and puzzles rather than the combat.
And to think that I was never a fan of the LM series, now I'm actually eager to buy this one. I guess it's true, the older you get, your interests will change
My friend is like a total Xbox gamer, and idk what it is but for some reason he’s very interested in Luigi’s Mansion 3. He’s never played Odyssey or anything like that. It’s weird, but I plan on getting the game regardless so I’ll let him try it when I can
Maybe the slam could have been a final surge upgrade! That would be a fantastic reward for collecting a ton of cash! Plus it would come mid to late game, so you could really appreciate its power!
@@jsc6x751 Honestly, same. Luigi's Mansion's combat has never been particularly good to begin with. And I'm willing to forgive that a little bit only because it's an adventure game.
True, but you kinda rate things by their innovativeness at the time. Luigi’s Mansion 3 has so much to live up to while the first one didn’t really have many expectations.
There's a charm about it that I haven't seen in another game. Plus its just short enough I can beat it in 1 session making it easy to learn to speedrun.
One thing I didn't like about the first game... Luigi felt like a huge jerk most of the time. Considering most of the ghosts he "fights" are just minding their own business
I've never played a Luigi's Mansion game before, and man, I'm upset at myself for waiting this long to try one. Luigi's Mansion 3 is EASILY one of the best games of the year. It's a genuine masterpiece. Combat is super fun, the puzzles are fantastic, and the story/presentation is amazing. Don't hesitate to get this, it's GREAT.
I just find it weird that you keep mentioning how the combat of the previous ones is better while in reality it has always been very simple. The first game is ridiculously easy in terms of combat and the variety does not change much either and that's fine, the combat is not what made it great(excluding boss fights), it was the exploration, puzzles and the atmosphere and based of what I've seen this game has a ton more of that. I have not played this yet so I might be wrong but some of the complaints you had seemed VERY nit picky, it reminds me of when you guys did the BOTW review you spent like 5 minutes complaining about the inventory system when in reality it was fine.
It seems like the only problems Andre had were the battle system and soundtrack. That's a shame too, cause they were my favorite parts of Dark Moon. Then again, I have disagreed with some of Andre's reviews in the past, so I may absolutely love this game when it releases. It seems like it's at least good though, so I'm still hyped for it!
@Walther Penne its sad that you showed so much passion in your comment and you got meme'd. back in 2014 people would respond with paragraphs of why they disagree. fuck 2019 bro.
Well, I disagree because combat never felt important to me. It's mainly an exploration, puzzle solving game, and the improvements over Dark Moon really make up for it. But thats just my opinion playing a few hours
sandakureva We shouldn’t talk down on basic gameplay just because it’s always been basic? If we accept that as something that’s always been the case and therefore say it’s fine for it to continue being the case, they won’t ever bother trying to make it NOT basic. No every time basic combat is in a game, we should complain about it, not accept it just cause that’s how it’s always been.
@@mariopkmnzelda the review presented it as if the combat in the previous luigi's mansion games _weren't_ basic, with this being a significant downgrade to the point of souring the core appeal of the series. sandakureva's point is that that's a bit of an exaggeration considering the combat has always been underwhelming
@@xXEPIKgamerXx Have you played the game to assure that yourself? Cause this is really only the reviewer's opinion. I mean, I could say I find the Witcher 3's combat a clunky and sloppy mess, but obviously, that's just gonna be the way I look at it, not the way everyone does. Or the way it actually is. I'm just saying, play the game yourself to get your own opinion and feel on the combat, don't just go by what the reviewers say.
WTF is everyone complaining aboy Luigi's Mansion 3 is a fantastic game you young ones have no idea what gaming is probably haven't played the original Luigi's Mansion
Big disagree on the soundtrack, I've been continuously surprised by how good and diverse it is, while still maintaining the atmosphere. It strikes a really good balance between the fun of a Nintendo game and the suspense of a 'horror' game. Combat is definitely disappointing with the slam being overpowered, but I still find it to be a really fun mechanic. Simply adding more ghost types, a hard mode, or just nerfing it would be some easy fixes. I hope they add stuff in, especially for Scarescraper, but I don't really expect it unfortunately.
I absolutely agree with you. I'm never a fan of the first Luigi's Mansion's soundtrack due to the fact that I never like synth instruments used in the game. I don't know why. Maybe because I've been all so familiar with much better synthesized instruments and orchestra used in other Mario games in the franchise. Maybe that's just me. :| I do have to disagree with the mechanics. I LOVE it so much! I find it so much fun to used, and it was incredibly satisfying. :D
Andre: I liked Luigi's Mansion 3. People who haven't even played this game yet: How dare he! What an insult to this flawless masterpiece of a video game. No, not a video game. A work of art that should be placed in a museum.
@@dangernoodle5831 It wasn't meant to do anything other than mock, so mission accomplished there. Furthermore, I don't have to add anything at all to a discussion in order to post a comment. The comment currently with the most likes on this video is a sex joke. Hyperbole and satire add at least as much to the discussion.
TayoEXE partially would agree with Pedro in his assertion here. Although it highlights a larger ‘issue’ with the Luigi’s Mansion series. The combat can quickly feel like padding because of how repetitive it was in 1 and 2, the lack of any real depth and its jankiness. Haven’t played 3 yet, I expected this to be the case as well here.
That doesn't negate the criticism that the combat in this entry is still shallow (as in spam the slam move an nothing else) despite being the third entry. They could have done something more to make it interesting or at the very least balance the slam move.
I want an update to where we can have the option to go back in time and have the choice to use the Poltergust 5000 to challenge yourself more and not have the Overpowered Poltergust G-00!
@@VonFirflirch But overpowered things do take the fun away from games, since in general a lot of the fun experiences we get out of games come from challenging ourselves, which feels pointless when we're given "I win" buttons right from the get go.

Its a shame to see how easy his game is, especially as the first 2 games could put up quite a fight at times. The ghosts in this game don't seem to really drag you anywhere, and being put up against multiple ghosts seems no harder than just one.
Fun Fact: The Poltergust G-00 in this game was already in Smash Ultimate, if people remember Simon and Richter's reveal, and is also mis-named the Poltergust 5000.
Why? Because you don't like a reviewer criticizing a game or mentioning its flaws? It all comes to "ugh, the reviewer is being to harsh, nit-picky, nostalgia blinded" or some other excuse to invalidate his/her opinion.
No, it’s because the review was overall poorly made and flawed. There is nothing wrong with criticizing a game and pointing out flaws, but when so much of the criticism is basically “it isn’t like one that came before it” this makes for an unhelpful and biased review. So much of this review was less looking at the strong and weak points of Luigi’s Mansion 3, and more “this is how it isn’t like Luigi’s Mansion 1”. This helps no one and just comes across as whining. It isn’t to invalidate the opinion, it is criticism of a review which frankly really is very flawed as I said. Andre really is letting his love of Luigi’s Mansion get in the way of rating Luigi’s Mansion 3, putting it on a pedestal when it is a flawed game.
Andre talked about the game on its own merits and also compared them to its predecessor (which you should be doing or needs to be done to be able to see what are the things the game improves upon or does right, its naive not do so). Even if Andre didn't compare it to LM1 or 2, his criticism about the combat and the music (which is what you do most in the game and listen too respectively) is very valid and he even shows it in the video when he talks about it. I don't how the overall review gave you the impression that Andre compared LM3 to much to LM1 and not gave enough actual points to what the game does right and wrong (WHICH HE DOES). To me it sounds like you are doing exactly what others are doing, which is to find a "flaw" to not give Andre's opinion credence. So unless you consider a "liked" rating or an 8/10 a bad game because you have ridiculous high standards, you should be able to enjoy this game regardless, which I will.
@@Nat988 I was happy when he did that, but he did not do it enough. Plus still in the end it still felt like he snuffed Luigi's Mansion 3 to some degree since "oh its not like Luigi's Mansion 1", his criticisms of the combat in all honestly began to feel hypocritical with how much he compared the games, since pretty much the exact problems he talked about in 3 were just as plentiful, if not moreso, in 1. I'm giving my thoughts why the review disappointed me. No need to become what you hate and try to discredit others for having an opinion you don't like. If you thought his review was sound then that is fine, I just didn't like it for reasons I have explained.
@@Dracomut I disagree on the combat part. Having played LM1 recently, the combat in that game was that the ghost actually put up a fight/moved you around aggressively when being sucked in and there was a strategy/skill to it in keeping the ghost in that state to deplete their health while also avoiding incoming attacks from other ghosts. In LM3, the ghosts doesn't seem to move you as much and the slam move while satisfying, seems to be very powerful and very easy to execute, making the supposed threats not so threatening. Of course LM1 combat is not perfect and doesn't have as many options as 3, plus the series has never been challenging in the first place. Not really an excuse, I like to say that because I read so many comments discrediting the reviewer's opinion with "to nit-picky", "Blinded by nostalgia" or "comparing it too much to LM1/LM2" arguments as a cop out instead of actually providing an explanation, I took yours as another one of those (despite actually putting an effort in explaining your reasoning). So yes, I became what I hate... so I apologize for that.
Nice review, Andre! Your critiques seem justified, despite the fact that you're being attacked for telling people what they don't want to hear. Glad to hear it's generally a fun game! Definitely going on my Christmas list 👍
Looks like some might think you gave it too low of a score, but I'm still glad you came off the game with an overall positive experience which is still saying this game is good but has some flaws that might bother some people. Keep up the awesome work! 😊
I'm kind of sad some people consider it a bad review because the game didn't score as high as they would have hoped. I'm disappointed too, but I think the review is fine.
@@VonFirflirch I think it's great because it answered questions I had in my mind as well as questions I didn't even bother to ask. More gameplay info is only good info in my eyes.

I don't know why people have a problem with the game being easy. All of the luigi's mansion games have been very easy. I honestly think the first one was much easier than dark moon.
@@smpiano6605 I don't just play to be challenged I play games to have fun. I like plenty of difficult and easy games. I mean I s ranked every boss in cuphead and had a lot of fun with it, but I don't think a game has to be hard to be enjoyed. Easy games can have plenty of involvement, for example kirby games are easy, but there is still plenty of involvement in them, since the easiness comes from you having a lot of hp. Also you shouldn't try to represent the entire gaming community with just your opinion it makes you seem pretentious. People are allowed to have different opinions. Despite all of this you completely missed my point. My point was that if your going to criticize this game for being easy you should also criticize the other luigi's mansion games for the same reason.
@Walther Penne Umm... Didn't I explain in the earlier comment or are you just trying really hard to sound like an idiot. I also really like hard games and I'm not talking about games like dark souls either . I mean actually difficult games that actually challenge you and not games that are built around just memorisation. Honestly dark souls isn't even hard at all if you've memorized everything. So to sum up this review: Combat not that engaging: Take that for what you will, really depends on what you want from the game tbh, most seem to be fine with the slam. Lack of ghost variety: This is pretty valid. Kinda tired seeing Goobs over and over. Hotel setting not really fleshed out: Dunno about this one, I think you set your expectations a little too high there Andre lol (though having interplay between floors would've been cool) Final boss: Valid Overall, good review. Little biased but still good I guess.
@Alex 1330 but compared to the boss ghosts of this game..... The final boss is really disappointing. It doesn't really have that oomph that the boss ghosts have.
@@VonFirflirch thankfully we're in the age of updates and what not, they can just add a hard mode which makes the slam more skill based and tweak some ghost HP, and still leave the main game intact.
The puzzle-solving aspect of the game has sold me on it. It looks really fun, to have mess with the environment using the limited tools you have. Shame it seems that combat is repetitive and too simple but I really wasn't looking for that in a game like this. Wish the levels were more interconnected as well.
@@Miguel-om9tv Dude, better idea: sell both of them and, just after learning everything about the Phoenix Wright video games and getting jacked.... You'd become the living *Daredevil!* On second though, I've already called dibs for it after they announced the future Nintendo theme park for 2020... So how about if you become *my sidekick?*
Here's how I imagine the combat could be improved: Limit the Slam move by resetting the meter (or cutting it in half) upon each use so you have to build it up again to use it again. And perhaps adjust the game balance to accommodate if necessary. That'll give you more opportunity for "ghost-fishing" around the room, make you want to cherish your slam moves for best effect (whether to slam multiple enemies or use the invincibility frames), and bring to mind the super-suck mechanic from Dark Moon. Oh, and there could be the occasional (or expertly placed) powerup that would let you temporarily do unlimited slams and feel powerful. What do you all think of this? Do you like the Slam mechanic as it is, or do you think Nintendo should change it like I described (or in another way)?
I love you GX, but this review seemed to lean heavy on nostalgia. I feel this game needs to be judged by its own merits, rather than those of its predecessors. Not a bad review, just a bit disappointing.
Is he though? I don't think he'd find the combat any better if he hadn't played the first two games, they were just mentioned as examples of how it could be more interesting.
And people wonder why IGN rates every big game an 8 or higher. I don’t see how disliking the combat relies on nostalgia, considering Andre said that it’s boring on its own merits. The combat is a huge part of a Luigi’s Mansion game, so I can see how that would bring down the score.
The environments in this game look AMAZING, and hopefully that makes up for the repetitive combat! I'm surprised that it was only given a "liked it" rating as normally Gamexplain is much more generous with their ratings. Despite this, I'm still super excited to play this game on Thursday!
Damn, it’s what I feared a lack of enemy variety and stale combat :( but at least the bosses are good and it’s not mission based this time! Plus a good co-op campaign helps :D
@@TheFungipudin Awsome:) I'm hoping you can choose to engage in battle and skip battles if you want depending on how well you are going in the game. I'm digressing a little here, but I hope they bring out a Paper Mario soon as well!

The combat already looked stale and repetitive to me just from the trailers and demos shown, it's a shame. I'll probably pick this up down the road used.
I'll admit, from reveal until fairly recently, I didn't like the graphics and wanted the look of the Gamecube original back. That was more realistic and scary in my opinion. But I have taken a step back from that stance and thought about it again. This actually looks _really_ good for what it is and does and I'm now genuinely interested. I'll be picking this up as soon as I can and hope to have fun with the game. I have always wanted to like Luigi's Mansion 3, I was just worried since the graphics among other details is reminiscent of Dark Moon which ended up disappointing me.
@@thewiseone629 it's because I was thinking like that that I took a step back. But unfortunately, it sounds like the gameplay, specifically combat, does the same thing; fail to live up to the standards the Gamecube original set.
@@robharli i also would pretty much want a moody, dark LM game, rather than one with bright colors and full of jokes (like dark moon) That is why I didn't like the second one that much. It felt like a forced comedy, derpy ghost designs and felt too childish. I want a darker and "scarier" LM xD
Despite feeling like Andre was pretty nitpicky in this review, as he usually is in his reviews (which’s why I mostly prefer John or Derrick), as a big Luigi’s Mansion fan, it seems like I’ll still enjoy it! Especially since the biggest part of the Luigi’s Mansion games for me isn’t the combat, but the exploration, puzzles and environments: all of which I felt were a downgrade in Dark Moon despite the game’s combat being better than in LM1. So overall, I certainly can’t wait to pick up this game for Christmas, along with DQ11S.👍🏽

I personally thought Luigi's Mansion 1's combat was too simple. I thought Dark Moon's combat was much better with the Strobe Bulb's 3 level power meter offering a nice risk and reward element to ghost catching. But it sounds like with Luigi's Mansion 3, it's both simple and too easy. So that's a bummer. But the game still looks great in every other regard, so I'm still looking forward to it.
Capturing ghosts is like a third of the game and if it just feels mediocre and worse than the first game it is a super valid point. The puzzles and bosses seems like a lot of fun tho, but what I think the series misses the most from the first game is the metroidvania feel. So imo it was a very good review. Nintendo always tries to bring new people to their series instead of trying to focus on the public that liked the first games so we often see mechanics simplified in newer games, so I wish some games had a harder mode that isn't just "you take more damage and do less damage" added later to the games, but well... it's Nintendo we're talking about
@@skydiamsteam6005 But I wish they improved it in newer games. It was a great introduction to someone that never played a metroidvania-esque game like me, and I was expecting more from the series because of that. I think that's why I can't go back to it... but that's just me
Seems too critical for no reason. The combat system looks fun and fixes the problem of being powerless while trying to suck up ghosts. What’s funnier is I bet they’re gonna be way more critical and picky with Luigi’s Mansion 3 than Pokémon Sword and Shield
Sad to hear that the slam is so OP. I just recently played the original again and it was fun knowing when to stop reeling in a ghost and let it drag Luigi a bit to avoid an attack from another ghost. That and how it is basically level by level.
Bonjour je tecris ce message car je sais que tu ne va rien comprendre car tu ne parle pas français mais je te souhaite quand même une belle journée 😂😂😂
It's kind of a bummer that Dark Moon and 3 for the most part are being looked down upon due to how the original Luigi's Mansion is being placed on such a high pedestal. Rather than enjoying the games as stand alone titles, the sequels are always being compared to how inferior they are to the first game. Which is a shame, because as much as I loved the first game, Dark Moon was an incredibly fun game and 3 seems to be more or less the same. I'm still picking the game up regardless, and other reviewers seem to actually enjoy Luigi's Mansion 3 a lot more than Andre. His review was fair though, and I think others should just respect his opinion rather than call him out for being "blinded by nostalgia." At the end of the day, it pretty much just boils down to your own opinion and experience.
Tbh i dont get the high regard for Luigi's mansion 1. Although I haven't played any of them, the first one doesn't interest me at all but I'm tempted to pick this new one up
This would be my first Luigi's Mansion game , but the weak combat really killed my interest for it. I might still play it if I can find it for like $20 one day
Koko Mono- Uhhhh where are you getting the idea that I am only letting other people's opinions form my own for this game? If I were doing that I would be buying this game right away instead of NOT buying it. I watched this to get an idea of how the game plays, and I decided it wasn't enough for me. That was MY own opinion, not anybody else's. Yes I based it partly on this youtube, because I wanted to know what the gameplay was like. Coming up with an opinion without knowing about the gameplay would be....to put it bluntly.... fucking idiotic
I think what would have helped the slam mechanic would involve the combination of the slam and being dragged around. For example have the slam being limited to a few ghost or to very tough ghost resulting in two or three ghost types were slamming is useless. Dragging could be incorporated on say a speed ghost by simply to drain health while tough enemies have their health drained and THEN slammed when they have like a power boost like in A Hat in Time.
First of all I just want to say thank you so much for making sure not to spoil too much, especially from the later floors. I always got the feeling that the game really picks up around Garden Suites & Paranormal Productions so I'm seriously looking forward to playing those & beyond!! Secondly I noticed you said 5 gems per floor. That's because the diamond on each floor is obtained by finding & capturing a special Gooper right?
@@GameXplain Ah OK haha. But I'm kinda disappointed by how the diamonds work. I hope at least it's not always a Gooper. As you progress it may be a Hammer, Slinker or Trapper that you have to defeat
As good looking as this is, it wasn't enough to make me buy it. Dark Moon I felt was limited by the 3DS hardware, pegging it a console level game on a handheld, controls felt cramped to me. I honestly think Luigi's Mansion should have been a single game, not a trilogy, the original is by far the best, often being the reason I turn on my GameCube to play.
That really sucks you can't turn off the slam feature! That is way too OP! And wow really? They removed the coin upgrades from scarescraper? That really blows!!! I'm honestly going to miss Dark Moon and the ghosts in it! I loved the friendly ghosts in Dark Moon!
This game is the sequel we all needed in 2013 (instead of Dark Moon): one location instead of 5, no mission-based content, a competent multiplayer option and memorable ghost bosses, including a friendly one!
The problem is the at the end of the game, it doesn't safe the win! Also it leaves you at the rooftop save so you can't collect the rest of the boos or gems, I also wanted to go into the collection myself and see king boo in it!
I've been kind of sceptical about the game for a while, and this review confirmed many of my concerns. It seems like a perfectly fine game, but not quite what I was hoping for in a LM3. I enjoyed LM2 even though I lost interest before finishing it, but it wasn't as good as the original (which I just replayed about 2 years ago) and this sounds like it very well may make me feel similarly.
Had a feeling the slam mechanic would make the game too easy and dumb down the combat. *sigh* still looking forward to the game but looks like the 1st Luigis Mansion will still remain supreme.
@Kono Mono other than the most important aspect by far, gameplay. Truly dissapointing coming from Nintendo. I've always felt like their design was make a fun game first and then dress it up, this game looks pretty but the core combat mechanic is very obviously just not fun looking at it. Felt a lot more respect as a gamer from Nintendo lately, dont know if this is an attempt to hold my hand but I'm strait up Melania Trumping that hand away
Kono Mono Why the fuck are you going to every comment and blindly defending a game you havent even played yet? Quit trying to convince yourself that this is going to be some sort of masterpiece.
André is allowed to have an opinion guys. . . From what I got from this review, I p e r s o n a l l y see myself - given GX's rating system - liking it a lot (at minimum), but I mean come on. . . I appreciate Andrés honesty in his "Liked" if anything. Relax.
I just finished the game and am having a hard time agreeing with Andre's points. Music was great and being able to play it in the lab on demand is nifty. I didn't understand his fixation with the combat as base enemies should be disposed of easily enough and not become a time sink while the meaty stuff was left for the bosses. The environments were the star of the show until you get to the boss fights, jobber ghosts jobbed. The elevator being a level select only was just fine whereas Andre's idea of trapping a boss and carrying it to another level made no sense given how boss fights work in this game and each floor had its own theme and could consist of multiple levels; interconnecting them would defeat the purpose of theming them. LM3 was great and I can see why it made GOTY nomination lists.
I wish reviewers on youtube would stick to using official footage or footage that everyone has seen before from E3 or something. Several parts in here I had not seen. Excited for the game!
@Walther Penne Kinda true but I think it's a bit more understandable in that game considering they had to build that huge world alongside that crazy physics engine and stuff. Still, I agree, that's one of BotW weakest points that I hope they rectify it in the sequel.
I thought the final boss had King Boo possess the entire hotel like some of the other bosses requiring Luigi to team up with Mario, Peach, the 3 Toads and E. Gadd to slam the hotel all together. Guess not.
Great review Andre but aside from issues with the Slam, I see this as an absolute upgrade from the original. The themes are better, the puzzles are better, the charm and animation is amazing. Etc it stands out as it’s own and should be appreciated as such.
Hey guys! First, the "censored" boss is NOT who you think it is. It's just a normal boss from the ScareScraper.

Should’ve been called Luigi’s Mansion: Last Resort
Pretty sure this is what the hotel is called?
Stephanie Woor yeah, and Dark Moon was named after the main goal, restoring the dark moon
That might’ve given the name a sense of finality, which is something I assume they wouldn’t want.
Professor Pro true, although that IS the name of the hotel
Yeh, but that would put a lot more work in the translation team
the slam is a cool idea but it seems like being able to do it so many times in succession was the wrong move. in dark moon the powered-up suction would never completely take out a ghost in one shot. I might see if only using it once or twice at a time feels any better
EDIT: never mind, folks. i've since completed the game and the slam rocks. i think, even if catching ghosts has a bit less depth than in previous games (which i'd already say is debatable) the sheer number of options luigi has in terms of interacting with his surroundings more than makes up for it
Still gonna be better than the crappy mechanics in the first Luigi's Mansion. Where you had no control and the ghosts just dragged you across the room
Sadly, that doesn’t sound like it will be possible. Andre said that it’s almost impossible to catch ghosts effectively without using it.
Jordan Murray The first game’s combat is all about getting control. You must’ve not played it right because it’s really easy to get control and a lot of fun.

Lou Cardenuto at least there are a few really good tracks it seems
Tokata definitely was the best composer for the series. I mean, removing him from Luigi's Mansion is like removing Koji Kondo from Super Mario. Something will always feel off.
I didn't even think about that! You're right. As soon as I read your comment I VIVIDLY heard those weird bass and theremin noises. As a kid I loved the sound design.

Sometimes, I don’t get the hype for the original game. I feel like if Luigi’s Mansion 1 came out today, Andre would be a lot more critical with it.
There is a remake of it on the 3DS.
Well, I’d argue that Dark Moon has plenty of charm but that doesn’t seem to be the case for many players.
It seems like it's at least good though, so I'm still hyped for it!

sandakureva We shouldn’t talk down on basic gameplay just because it’s always been basic? If we accept that as something that’s always been the case and therefore say it’s fine for it to continue being the case, they won’t ever bother trying to make it NOT basic.

Yeah, but combat was never boring either. Now it is.
Don't use that excuse. If you disagree, explain where and why.
You still had to mind the other ghosts you weren't pulling. Going off the review, it seems that's not a thing anymore.

You mean that time luigi died? Yeah i do remember xD
Not gonna lie, it is videos like this that remind me that I follow Gamexplain for the news and alternate content... And definitely not the reviews

I don't know why people have a problem with the game being easy. All of the luigi's mansion games have been very easy. I honestly think the first one was much easier than dark moon.
Nostalgia can often blind us.
The first game was also too short imo. Dark Moon definitely improved in that regard.
Because we play games to be challenged, not to watch visual novels that involve some input from the person playing.

I said in the previous comment thatyou both completely missed the point. I was just Criticising the hypocrisy of not liking this game, because it's easy when the other Luigi's mansion games are also easy.
Still despite that (as I said) ugh... I also really like hard games and I'm not talking about games like dark souls either . I mean actually difficult games that actually challenge you and not games that are built around just memorisation. Honestly dark souls isn't even hard at all if you've memorized everything. Now could you please not act like a complete dubass or do you just want to make me repeat my comment a third time. Or maybe you're just trolling because there's no way you're actually this stupid.
So to sum up this review:
Combat not that engaging: Take that for what you will, really depends on what you want from the game tbh, most seem to be fine with the slam.
Lack of ghost variety: This is pretty valid. Kinda tired seeing Goobs over and over.
Hotel setting not really fleshed out: Dunno about this one, I think you set your expectations a little too high there Andre lol (though having interplay between floors would've been cool)
Final boss: Valid
Overall, good review. Little biased but still good I guess.
@Alex 1330 but compared to the boss ghosts of this game..... The final boss is really disappointing. It doesn't really have that oomph that the boss ghosts have.
So basically, if the slam wasn't op this would be the best Luigi's Mansion.
Things like this make game development look pretty scary, all it takes is one seemingly minor screw-up and your game is worse for it D:
@@VonFirflirch thankfully we're in the age of updates and what not, they can just add a hard mode which makes the slam more skill based and tweak some ghost HP, and still leave the main game intact.

TheFungipudin Yeah they were both great:) I also liked Color Splash. Even though the card system was a bit of a fail I found the witty writing of the adventure and art style/immersion was excellent! I’m hoping to see more on the Switch!
This game looks gorgeous, can't believe that it is a switch game.
The combat already looked stale and repetitive to me just from the trailers and demos shown, it's a shame. I'll probably pick this up down the road used.
last game I'm buying this year Pokemon means nothing to me super excited for Luigis Mansion 3
In Luigi's Mansion 4, you should be locked _outside_ the mansion(s) trying to fight your way to the middle floor, whether from the top or the bottom.
Wow! This isnt the gamecube days, your worried about graphics rather then gameplay? Lol
@@thewiseone629 it's because I was thinking like that that I took a step back. But unfortunately, it sounds like the gameplay, specifically combat, does the same thing; fail to live up to the standards the Gamecube original set.
@@robharli i also would pretty much want a moody, dark LM game, rather than one with bright colors and full of jokes (like dark moon)
That is why I didn't like the second one that much. It felt like a forced comedy, derpy ghost designs and felt too childish.
I want a darker and "scarier" LM xD
@Kono Mono "It never has been." The first game was the right amount, just give us that again, or make it even more dark and scary.
@Kono Mono ik xD
It's a good dream for a "what if?" Series
5:57 No option to jump while sucking a ghost like Dark Moon?
There is jump but its not the same, its stationary and apparently cant be used in combat
@@martincardenas5196
There is actually! I don't remember what button it is cause its been a while, but I definitely remember using it.
Its the B button
Andre is a hard man to please yet again
He is often blinded by nostalgia way more than the rest of gx guess maybe he is fatigued from reviewing games for so long
He literally said that he liked the game though...
@@kingjonny394 Actually, I agree with him. In my opinion, the final boss battle was underwhelming unfortunately. If you disagree, what do you disagree with and why?
@@TayoEXE I can't say about the final boss but I already disagreed with him about 1 being better than 2 and the structure of the games floors
Yeah fuck Andre. I stopped liking him after his review of mario maker 2. Seriously what does it take to satisfy this guy??
Half the comments :
"Andre's opinion about a game I've never played is trash!"
Welcome to Gamexplain.
Personally, I really like :
"This review is bad because it says the game I'm excited for isn't perfect."
I thinks that’s more accurate. Seriously, what’s so hard about listening to and understanding criticism? People all have their own opinions, after all.
@@VonFirflirch bad reviews affect the sales and then you guys complain "why do video games suck these days"... umm maybe because when developers try you focus on the negatives and dont let people enjoy themselves?
@@johnnyboi331
I'm only saying some people think it's a poor quality review because it doesn't 100% praise the game, as it brings up flaws that could get in the way.
I'm not preventing anyone from enjoying themselves.
Hi gamexplain!
My Favourite RUclipsr ☺

I feel so stupid I didn’t realize it said Goo
11:33 siriously i can still see that king boo is trying to hit luigi with thunder so thanks for spoiling

He doesnt have a crown
I promise you, that is not King Boo.
Clearly you can't, so theres no spoiler.
28theyoyo realy?
Sad to hear that the slam is so OP. I just recently played the original again and it was fun knowing when to stop reeling in a ghost and let it drag Luigi a bit to avoid an attack from another ghost. That and how it is basically level by level.
Love you gamexplain! Keep up the great work!
Bonjour je tecris ce message car je sais que tu ne va rien comprendre car tu ne parle pas français mais je te souhaite quand même une belle journée 😂😂😂
Luigi does the hotel thing so much better than Mario that it's scary.
Although I haven't played any of them, the first one doesn't interest me at all but I'm tempted to pick this new one up
When ur not paying attention and hear, "Beyond the usual sucking and blowing, Luigi can flash..."
I can't wait to play Luigi's Mansion 3 and 100% it!!!
12:20 Best part of the entire game that isn't even released yet.
Please Tell Me There Is A Snow Themed Floor I'll Be Disappointed If Theres No Snow
That would be a little bit generic
You have to play through and see
nah
there is no ice floor
Hey Andre, there are plenty of parts in the game where you can get away with not using the slam move.
This would be my first Luigi's Mansion game , but the weak combat really killed my interest for it. I might still play it if I can find it for like $20 one day
@Kono Mono It seems you can kill the ghosts simply by slamming them repeatedly, which doesn't seem a good, deep or challenging way to combat at all.
@Kono Mono When you play Dark Moon's Rush mode on Expert difficulty (in the ScareScraper). That's where the biggest challenges await.
Coming up with an opinion without knowing about the gameplay would be....to put it bluntly.... fucking idiotic
that days never gonna happen, maybe in the next decade perhaps. botw came out 2yrs ago, still near or at full price, same with Mario kart 8.
@Alex 1330 So what? I didn't play the other games either. And besides the guy said the combat was weaker than the other LM games
Whoops, I misspoke. I meant 6 haha.
@Walther Penne in a sense but online multiplayer would be better if they improved it with updates and would increase the game's life as time passes
This game is the sequel we all needed in 2013 (instead of Dark Moon): one location instead of 5, no mission-based content, a competent multiplayer option and memorable ghost bosses, including a friendly one!
How is the music a complaint? I loved the music of this game
YES!!! FINALLY!!! I’m not the only one that enjoy this soundtrack!!
The problem is the at the end of the game, it doesn't safe the win! Also it leaves you at the rooftop save so you can't collect the rest of the boos or gems, I also wanted to go into the collection myself and see king boo in it!
I agree i was so hyped for this game but you literally slam your way through it
I've been kind of sceptical about the game for a while, and this review confirmed many of my concerns.
Austin Evans this game demolishes LM1 in some ways
@Kono Mono other than the most important aspect by far, gameplay. Truly dissapointing coming from Nintendo. I've always felt like their design was make a fun game first and then dress it up, this game looks pretty but the core combat mechanic is very obviously just not fun looking at it. Felt a lot more respect as a gamer from Nintendo lately, dont know if this is an attempt to hold my hand but I'm strait up Melania Trumping that hand away
@@sanguinepenguin9576 And that hand will soon comes back as a B*tch slap
@@koolaruni1988 It'll come back in not wasting my time involving myself with something dissapointing, what the Melania hand slap was designed to do
Kono Mono Why the fuck are you going to every comment and blindly defending a game you havent even played yet? Quit trying to convince yourself that this is going to be some sort of masterpiece.
André is allowed to have an opinion guys. . . From what I got from this review, I p e r s o n a l l y see myself - given GX's rating system - liking it a lot (at minimum), but I mean come on. . . I appreciate Andrés honesty in his "Liked" if anything.
Relax.
Good review, I just wish it was judged on how it is as a game, now compared to the other 2, this review was written with nostalgia in mind.
I'm wondering if limiting the slam to once every charge would have been a better implementation of the mechanic
I had hiped that we could've play as Mario Peach and the Toads as you saved in the end. But the title is all about Luigi after all.
I'm sad we never got multiple playable characters in this series, especially when, IIRC, it was planned for the first game at some point.
"beyond the expected sucking and blowing, Luigi can flash..." woah there, I thought this channel was family friendly
just realized someone else already made this joke...now I feel dumb
@@Harrinsain lol it's alright
They missed the perfect opportunity to have Luigi rescue Daisy. Idk why Nintendo still doesn’t upgrade her to the main cast in these kind of games
Walther Penne
Idk what rule of what character belongs in what game exists, but Peach being there shows that rule doesn’t exist
I can definitely see how that slam would get boring as time go on but have this game pre downloaded I am looking forward to it.
I wish reviewers on youtube would stick to using official footage or footage that everyone has seen before from E3 or something. Several parts in here I had not seen. Excited for the game!
Well, the monotonous combat sounds very disappointing and the lack of enemy variety still puzzles me.
Great review.
11:45 Did anyone else notice the Mario strikers charged picture are they comfirming a new game
