Chris finally found a way to get rid of Miranda and now he can bring strahd back, and to top it all off the players did it for him. This is a good day for Perkins.
When Evelyn is trying to knock out Izek, all I can think of is the Ironman Hulkbuster scene where he's just pounding Hulk's face saying "Go to sleep, go to sleep, go to sleep, go to sleep, go to sleep..."
Two times this series has made me cry; when Waffles was throwing herself at the iron bars trying to save Strix, and just now when Evelyn tried to talk Paultin out of the ring's spell to no effect. :'(
Miranda: Instead of a Dark Lord, you would have a queen, not dark but beautiful and as the dawn! Tempestuous as the sea, and stronger than the foundations of the earth! All shall love me and despair!
I agree. I love the drama and suspense that comes with each episode and this was a great example. Miranda's situation was so unpredictable it drove me crazy.
Looking at it from a metagame perspective wizards created this weird problem with sending all their established D&D groups after the soul monger. Acquisitions is their big money group in star power and advertising so it's obvious they'll ultimately be the ones to deal with it but when shows like this that meet significantly more often and area established in the same canon they kind have to force the waffle crew to side track with other quests till acquisitions can meet up again and deal with it.
Ahh, I LOVE the Strahd intro and have since the first time it was played! Actually, it's sad, because I feel like the singing little kid who has no game to join :( Well, at least I have a good one to watch.
Fourth Reich I have the module, I'm well aware. When they eventually get in a position to actually do something against the soul monger, that's more or less going to. *Spoilers* spark an encounter with the Atropal as you've mentioned. If they manage to defeat it, that's going to pretty much piss off Acererak and he will be out for blood as described in the book. They're going to inevitably cross paths with him if they seek to end the death curse, unless they can use that mini, Magic Missile egg nuke they're carrying around to blow up the entire region. That's pretty much a safe bet to avoid the direct wrath of the lich..at least for now. As if they didn't have enough enemies already. A direct fight would have Acererak pretty much oneshotting all of them in a one sided TPK, which we both basically agree on, so they're going to need some major help dealing with him. Like, I'm talking plot armor on the level of Evelyn praying to Lathander and he ends up sending in a Solar for backup lol. Chris Perkins ultimately knows what he's doing so I honestly can't wait to see how it all unfolds.
only diath and strix are at low hp, since paultin always had that ring of protection, so he still got Hp left and thats why he gave the ring to diath. so now both diath and strix each have a ring of protection.
Nicholas Epsilon There's still that Fire Elemental lord roaming around the mountains somewhere. Yeah, makes you wonder if there's a higher level group of adventurers cleaning up after the Waffle Crew's mess lol.
A note that in the old Baldur's Gate games (which is where Holly started playing) there ARE evil druid sects so conceivably Miranda might be an evil druid...
She wanted the ring for her own. :/ I saw it coming when she stole the rams ring off of her dead "friend." No "good person" will steal their comrades equipment and leave them for dead. Normal party members will risk making deals with demons or such to get said friends revived.. yet Miranda took the ring, and lived with gullible innocent vegipygmis as their *"queen"*
I legitimately forgot Diath was a good aligned character. I always peg him as Lawful Neutral. He respects law and authority and tries to do things the diplomatic way, but his first priority is his party and he will do whatever it takes to protect his party. Strix I remember is Chaotic Good. She is clearly Chaotic Good. Same with Paultin being Chaotic Neutral. They don't try to be the alignment, they just are. I feel like Evelyn isn't Lawful Good, but believes she is. I don't see her as a good character at all. Too many of her actions are motivated by selfishness and self interest for the alignment to click in my head tbh. I just see her as a narcissistic Lawful Neutral character who thinks everything she does is right and good.
i love how Nate was basically a sleeper agent boss. So great! (the only thing I wish, is that he would stop asking Chris how he is supposed to feel. Some of the point is that you act for your own character. But it is a minor thing because Nate is great!)
I think he asked that because with being under the control of the ring he would feel differently than normal, and wanted to make sure he was in line with the ring's will
It also seemed like he asked when one of his party made an appeal that would have worked on non-ring Paultin and he wanted to see if he could respond in character or if the ring overruled his will.
Got DAYUM Chris Perkins does it again! Another great story told, another series of hard questions asked. I am genuinely excited to see the next episode.

@@billhenry7213 thats actually super weird. If the flaw of a vampire lord would include extreme narcissism then would the two strahds be pals or mega enemies
If Chris goes by the item description, then they need the special touch of that special someone to whom the ring would literally be useless. They have not met that someone - yet...
Daniel Mårtensson An evil being of whose will can't be broken. If you think about, an evil Monk, using Stillness of The Mind, is the perfect candidate lol.
How is Izek not their ally? Sure they're not friends or anything and they in fact hate each other, but none of that matters, they're fighting the same enemy, they're supporting each other during a battle. They're allies.
You guys should have Dodger on the show, since so many of the Waffle Crew have already worked with her before, it wouldn't be difficult for them to get comfortable.
It makes sense on the level that Strix would have probably told him Paultin was his dad a lot offhandedly and Strix was definitely not considering adoption (it’s clear she hates the thing), but there’s one thing I really don’t get about that relationship. Why would he care about Paultin enough more than her/her allies to believe him unconditionally when he’s known Paultin for such a short time in comparison...? Yeah, Paultin probably spoils him more, but it’s not like Strix was a terrible person to him or something, and she has 50 years of companionship on Paultin. Now he’s just gonna assist his dad in killing her after all that? Hell, he listens to Evelyn’s pleading more than Strix. Does 50 years of cookies and free lodging mean nothing to you, Simon?
A little late but I just started watching the series a few weeks ago and got Curse of Strahd a few days ago. As I was looking at Simon's Traits I found "Ideal. “I wish I could make people happy.”" and "Bond. “I would like to find someone - anyone - who isn’t afraid of me and who enjoys my company.”" Considering Paultin and Evelyn were the two who seemed happy to have him around, he bonded with them instantly. As for why he didn't bond with Strix even though he lived with her for 50 years is probably do to the fact she iirc was still somewhat scared of him. As for why Strix kept him around, even though she doesn't like him and isn't super close to Paultin, she still seems to see him as family and he considers Simon his son so of course she's going to watch him until he's revived.
There is alot you need to bend logic with when it comes to stopped time, because one could argue the clothes that the Elves wear are not elves either (hopefully) and so should not be able to move in stopped time as well. I always take it with the logic that anything the things unaffected by stopped time are in direct physical contact to and interacting with are exempt of stopped time. One can also argue that they just waited all that stopped time before they made their move, considering how the Waffle Crew took it's time to act upon the whole "Search for the bad guys" thing, so there was enough of a gap that the trail went cold, considering how far away the coach was parked from the tavern.
AlluMan96 That's fair. I mean if they truly stopped Time for everything then they wouldn't be able to see or breathe either. (Light might be extremely fast but without time progressing it stops moving)
Johnathen Andretti it seemed like Chris modified the effects from when they were explained on the Acquisitions Incorporated episode, as far as the length of period in which time was stopped is concerned. It's not far-fetched to assume that Miranda and the Shaddar Kai assassins were close to the wagon and had dispatched the random NPCs by the time the spell had ended, leaving them free to leave while the Wafflecrew got their bearings.
Sure the inn only admits "evil" creatures but Paultin saw the Raven Queen there which leads me to believe if you pay a cover charge of an item of personal significance like a Yew Wand, for example, you might be admitted entry. I Highly doubt Miranda is Evil. As to how could the Waffle crew deal with the Soulmonger/Death Curse they literally have a force grenade that could level a city, it's not as big of a problem as people make it out to be. Getting back there is going to be tough they might lose a few more HP but they've got a wagon and multiple different creatures that could pull it. I'd sooner see the crew go north where I believe the Raven Queen's personal domain she could send them back exactly where they need to be..
Iridium Strix was only let in the first time because she had Mr. Shambleface in her robes. I feel like if It had been anyone else, they would have been stopped. It lets evil come and go as they please, but as another comment says, it would let neutral characters in as well and Miranda is True Neutral.
Everyone says it only repels good and not neutral, but what about Paultin? After the ring was taken off and his alignment changed back to normal (which I’ll remind you is Chaotic Neutral), he was being pushed out. The only reason it wasn’t as sudden as Strix’s was because, as chris said, he still had some ice in the veins from the Ring of Winter’s control. I’m not entirely sure why Miranda was let in just fine. Maybe it was a mistake. Chris almost forgot about it for Strix so that’s not too big a stretch. Or maybe the odd way she entered exploited a security weakness, idk. I personally like the original comment’s idea of a price to pay to get in.
Not at all surprised that she turned out to be only after the ring. She said herself she loved "collecting magical items" and she even stole the rams ring off of her dead "friend". So.. yeah. I'm not surprised she turned out to be a thief.
David Wolf well that also goes along with her alignment, it must be super specific to where only Neutral, Lawful, and Chaotic Good are excluded from entering, Miranda was True Neutral, and i guess now Nuetral Evil for stealing the ring afterwards, but also, if she was going to be repelled, time was frozen, such as the case with Strix she was repelled when the time unfroze, if Miranda would be removed it would have happened
So strahd has been brought before the raven queen because he has great potential(the reason why the shadarkai search different planes as mentioned last episode)
Short lived stint as a villain but ooooooh Paultin was a spectacular bad guy Can’t wait to see how bad everything goes _AH AHAHAAAHAH_ Also. Corner comments guy. You are awesome.
Assuming Paultin's alignment hasn't changed, he is Chaotic Neutral. If Miranda is True Neutral, then it seems that the barrier only pushes away Good characters. Strix doesn't count, since by the looks of it the barrier was put up after she entered and was whisked off. Or if she did count, maybe her being Chaotic let her through? I guess the puppet counts as an evil item if the Ring does count as evil as well. Also. Why would Miranda give up her flower staff? She already gave up her yew wand. I'm pretty sure she has no more druidic focuses then. That means no more magic, right?
Dane that would mean that she has both a focus and a component pouch sitting around. That or she doesn't use a lot of material spells. Or the rules for this stream are a little more lax.
So when Strix uses the Stopwatch, wouldn't the Ice Paultins be exempt? Since they're not creatures or beasts? Or does the watch include constructs too? That would suck if everyone else died when they were frozen then Miranda takes the Ring & disappears and Paultin sees the others dead. THAT would've been HORRIBLE. Real glad this didn't happen but had to ask.
Chris Perkins has now become my FAvorite DM like DAmn i already knew he was amazing DM but now :0 ...Im making you a god in my pantheon for my own setting my good Sr... not sure Good~~~ or Evil^^^ but The God Of Lore And Knowledge~~~ The God Of Lies And Deceit^^^ What kind of god do you think?
I'm not shocked that the guest turned out to be a backstabber who only wanted the ring for her own selfish need. I mean.. she stole the rams ring off of her dead "friend".. that was just foreshadow to this moment in hindsight. The true friendly guests die along the way while the backstabbers make away with the riches.
The assassins have Straude and Miranda who has the ring of winter... so... Straude with the ring of winter. Congrats guys... as if straude wasn't hard enough. :/
Yeah, and then you realize that because of their current state, when they inevitably meet Acererak it's going to be a death sentence without some serious help from a high level guest or massive plot armor lol. Man, their plate is so full.
Cold Lightning9 Chris seriously warped the final Strahd encounter to make it more climatic for the characters and the players, so he has that power as DM.
Ben Snyder It is a pressing matter too, but at this time only Paultin knows that the assassins have the doll. As far as we know, Strix still believes it's in her robes because she was almost dead when they took it from her. Who knows, the doll could be another reason why Paultin is so adamant about going after Miranda.
It was more of a sarcastic/ humorous question but I could see Pautin really going after the doll more so than the ring since Miranda has it now. Frankly I could see the assassins accidentally (Or perhaps purposely) releasing Strahd and him getting the ring in the end.
If I were in this situation, with a wizard favoring the school of conjuration, I’d probably summon a creature just inside the shack... Preferably one immune to cold. All the wizards in the house say YO!
"We've gone from Civil War to custody battle" has to be one of the best contributions of corner guy (IMO)

Never heard of her...
Fourth Reich nah this is better imo
Fourth Reich so is high rollers.
I agree. I love the drama and suspense that comes with each episode and this was a great example. Miranda's situation was so unpredictable it drove me crazy.
critical role is lame and boring with to many players
Okay, they REALLY need to stop going after the ring and get their bigger problem fixed, which is that THEY ARE SLOWLY PERMA-DYING!
You would think the death curse would be a bigger problem but nope, they get distracted and go off the rails into a completely different story
but in a fiction or the reality (the real world)... does not everything ends in destruction?

No. Druids can cast spells using a focus OR material components. No where is it said she doesn't have any components.
Dane that would mean that she has both a focus and a component pouch sitting around. That or she doesn't use a lot of material spells. Or the rules for this stream are a little more lax.
Yes.
Strix got through the barrier because of the puppet...
I haven’t ever watched on a large enough screen until today to notice that Evelyn’s portrait has “human” in quotations.
I've never hated a ring so much!
Quit bragging that you know Italian Chris
Those portraits! Nice Shadowfell versions!
Strix ex Machina.
Kudos for the Mad World reference.
Poor Holly, barely got to play this time...
She seemed sick. It was probably on purpose.
I LOVE FAIRY TAIL! MUST GET NATE"S VOICE
The stopwatch only allowed elves to be exempt, everything that wasnt an elf was frozen in time
It's been a lot more than three days, dood. What happened to the Dwarves?
Highlight of my week!
Chris Perkins has now become my FAvorite DM like DAmn i already knew he was amazing DM but now :0 ...Im making you a god in my pantheon for my own setting my good Sr... not sure Good~~~ or Evil^^^ but

The God Of Lies And Deceit^^^
What kind of god do you think?
Gonna say, I wanna go back to episode 73
If it were not for the Strahd doll then Paultin would still have the ring.
After 84 episodes and 2 months I am finally cought up, and all I can say is #whyChris
(And wow, this series is awesome!)
and the damage from the orb of cold
What about the Werewolf?
Maranda is bilbo
Wowowowow
You have some good taste my friend
Also on Thursdays: Drag Race!
Someone's been playing monster hunter
Can someone link the C-Team episode that runs before this?
Hmmm -- i wonder why Evelyn didn't care about Strix when lighting that fire...
Maybe because Strix has fire resistance due to her infernal lineage.
strix is a tiefling and so is resistant to fire and evelyn would know that
54:40 Oh no! He finally read the description of Crown of Madness and discovered how terrible a spell it really is!
why is this the first time we hear about the magic resist aura?
I can’t watch any of those on Thursdays I have to run for my own group
where can I find the c team one?
But... What about the Strahd Puppet? Wouldn't that be a bit more pressing than the ring?
Ben Snyder It is a pressing matter too, but at this time only Paultin knows that the assassins have the doll. As far as we know, Strix still believes it's in her robes because she was almost dead when they took it from her. Who knows, the doll could be another reason why Paultin is so adamant about going after Miranda.
It was more of a sarcastic/ humorous question but I could see Pautin really going after the doll more so than the ring since Miranda has it now. Frankly I could see the assassins accidentally (Or perhaps purposely) releasing Strahd and him getting the ring in the end.
God damn it! I just wanted a Face Off scene or reference for fucks sake.
North... only go north
WHAT IN ALL THE HELLS JUST HAPPENED??? ALSO THE ELVES HAVE MR SHAMBLEFACE!!
Everyone is so somber in this episode.
I rolled a 7
If I were in this situation, with a wizard favoring the school of conjuration, I’d probably summon a creature just inside the shack... Preferably one immune to cold.
All the wizards in the house say YO!
Z Rhett Akers A Wizard or Horizon Walker Ranger would be a godsend for them in this situation lol.
Remember when Simon was an it and not a he?
Imagine.. if they never chose the rug. :)
Nicholas Epsilon, that is why I'm in love with D&D :)
Ah, Murderbot
miranda metagaming and it goes unnoticed, mmkay
what meta gaming? Seemed reasonable.
it wasnt really metagaming though. she could move because she is an elf
MIRANDA!! WHY??? Honestly, it's probably better off with her anyway lol. Great episode yet again.
