This is the second part of our series fixing and flipping a free push mower into $2000. In this video we will be reviving this free crusty MTD bolens riding mower that was left abandoned for years. Lets see what it takes to get this lawnmower running, cutting, and driving again. Thank you all for coming along for the ride!
I was not expecting that thing to run because the oil and the carb but you came and saved the day😅
That engine sounds amazing! It seems to fire really smoothly - big surprise given how bad everything looked at first. This one’s a diamond in the rough!
I come from the commercial side. But this type mower is really fun. I purchased a 2019 "Cub" with 19 hours on it for resale, but then realized I enjoyed it. I still have it.
I think it's a good idea to paint the underside of the mowerdeck in order to prevent rust. Did it on my Stiga Villa Senetor rideable lawnmower.
I watch this guy on RUclips named Alex, and as he says from time to time, this Bolens turned out “suh-weet”. Great video, as always.
LOL the pre-filter looks great because it was installed as a post filter.
I didn’t even catch that until I went to clean the filter later on. Good eye!
I’m really going to have to invest in polishing equipment! For the small amount of time spent the perceived value has jumped up a whole lot! 👍👍👍
THANK YOU FOR THE VIDEO
The gas does not wash out the head gasket. If you have to change the drive belt on that system, change both at the same time. That is very critical. Great find, excellent work. You’ve got a great start on your 2000 bucks
Great application of that scissor Jack, Alex! Weld a socket on it for a 3/8ths drive, lube it up really good and you’ve got a quick and easy compression and tension tool. 🔧👍 I never met a tool I didn’t modify. 😉😂
Wow that turned out real good thank you for the video
Well done 👍🏼
Honest Alex, this mower ran fine last fall! Lol. 😂 That is one of the worst carbs ive ever seen. Looked like it was full of our good ole Iowa ethanol. It sounds and looks great now. The gas tank cleaning was a huge improvement. The detailing as you know really helps sell a machine. You should make a decent profit and on to the next machine. Im really liking this series! 👍🎬🎥🇺🇸
Thank you so much Roger. It’s wild how much gunk was in there. I really was surprised the needle wasn’t stuck. This one certainly turned around pretty nice. I hope things are good your way!!
Ended up being a nice looking and operating mower.......$450 ....it should bring that any day. Great video
amazing turn around man ,,,,
Holy crap I've never seen so much cheese inside of a carburetor! That was insane!
Just a slight bit of gunk 😂😂
Great work Alex!
Thank you Kyle! Greatly appreciate your support 😎
What a great video. It was 40 minutes and flew right by. I wish there were more these. Thanks bud keep up the good work
Thank you so much. I’m behind on comments but I greatly appreciate your support 😎😎
Nice job
Thank you!!
Really over all it is just dirty but pretty good shape plus seat looks great 😊
Im noticing once you get fuel to the carb. And the carb is clean. The mower is more than likely coming to life. Given that an entire list of other things is checked off. Yeah theres a lot of things to do but man it is fun restoring an old mower
Looks really good. You did an amazing job on this old mower.
Thank you very much!!!
Rebuilt the same Bolens with same problem, seems to be common. One suggestion if I may next time tape off warning labels on the deck before you paint especially if it's for sale. Enjoy your videos, good job!
Thank you. I normally do mask the stickers or at least wipe them right after paint with acetone to keep the stickers fresh.
Real nice
I did really well with a 1996 Yamaha G16A golf cart. I got it at an auction for $225, put $315 into it, so about $540 total into it, did a bit of work all over it and sold it for $2,200. It was a fun fix-storation peice. Never had a golf cart before that one.
That’s awesome. Nice turn around on it, and I’m sure it was fun to try out a golf cart project.
I refurbish a lot of mowers. One tip I will give is remove the dead battery and connect your jump box clamps right to the battery leads. It gets a lot more of the CCA from the jump box up to the starter. Nice work on saving this one! Always a good feeling.
Thank you very much for the tip. That would certainly take the load off from the jumper pack. I really appreciate the support 🙏
Nice mower!!
Thank you!!
👍👍👍👍👍🤜🤛 for your information. A few of us did tell you that the fuels turned off, but you chose not to listen to us lol
See I knew someone was telling me hahaha. Thank you.
Alex great job as always learning a lot from you brother Chris from OHIO gooooooo Buckeyes
Thank you so much Chris!! 😎🇺🇸😎🇺🇸
Man it turned out great, they were nice mowers when they came out.
Thank you. Yea people just neglect them and most end up in the scrap yard unfortunately.
Hy mate, nice video, very informative and entertaining. It’s amazing how robust these engines are and what they can stand. Greetings from Germany and I see you next time 👍🍀🌞💪
Thank you very much for stopping by.
I think that's a 500 dollar tractor 🚜
Another excellent job 👍👍and also I think 400 is a good deal
Thank you so much!!!
Yes
They turned pre-filter into a post filter lol😂
This is an interesting $2000 challenge.
Seems like everyone always ignores or overlooks the cup holders in these restorations. Pop it out and hit it with the propane torch and it looks like new in 10 seconds! 👍
Maybe it’s just your area or maybe you’re trying to move product faster, but I think you’re undervaluing your work and the final product. I’d expect at least $650 for a tractor in that condition and functionality.
Great job, Alex! 👍
I think I do under price things. I need to set the bar a little higher and wait for the right buyer. Usually I’m just trying to keep things moving quick. I really appreciate the support.
I could never work on that flood zone tractor without pressure washing the whole thing really well first! I can’t stand working on dirty machines; I try not to bring debris into the shop, plus when it’s clean it’s a lot easier to spot issues at the beginning. Also, if it turns out to be a runner I’ve already done a good part of the cosmetic to it.
Just my Mr. Clean self! 😂
You don't even know if it will start or run, and you wash it? Crazy dude.
Wow I sold one just like that for $750 no problem and I probably could have gotten more. It depends on your area. Keep up the good work.
Wow I wish I could get that in my area. I think $500 would be about the max here. Thank you for stopping by!!
Turned out great. Anymore, people are probably better off buying good used mowers over the new ones.
Prices for new machines are outrageous. I try and fix what I can to sell for a fair price.
May I make a suggestion whenever you are going to crank over engine that the cylinder is full of gasoline. Get a remote starter switch and leave the key off so the coil is grounded no chance of spark from coil
That’s a great tip. Thank you!!
If you want to make the cup holder look nice as well, take a blow Torch to it. It'll turn it to its original color.
i have a bolens pusher and the front is plastic and the deck is metal and completely rotted the engine is good
those briggs motors dont waunt to die man
I'm looking for a grass catcher for a Honda commercial lawnmower
always test needle by putting carb on studs but don't tighten , hook gas up with a full tank to create the max pressure it will see and just let it sit for a while , gas will leak out before going into intake and can easily be seen , if you tighten it up there is no way to see if the gas leaking by and good way to ruin yer fresh oil change
Great tip. Thank you for sharing.
that's a 500 dollar mower all day
Worth 450 to 500
My father in law had one of these. I hated that thing but did get 3500 for it and didn't do jack shit to it didn't even wash it.
thats only like a $500 mower now
I remember these mowers selling for 1000 dollars new at Lowes.
The basic ones I’ve seen this year are about $2000. Crazy!
Wow, nuthin wrong with that carb!
Why would you not clean that mower first thing before you ever started to work on it ? would make life so mush easer
Fuel shut off not working
Just put a flat head in the key swich
Another Nikki carburetor issue that caused the hydro lock on this engine
Muffler was probably full of oil and gas
So why is the lawnmower a push mower in your mind? Why is nobody talking about it?
It’s a series that I am making. This is part two. I have part 1 in the playlist where it started with a push mower.
Just replace the carb and be done with it
The big problem these days is that people want too much for their broken mower, if it doesn’t work…ITS SCRAP value since it’s useless. Not $400
Exactly. People think they are sitting on a gold mine. It takes time and money for someone to repair.
that rider isn't 2k sitting with chains around it at lowes
It’s part of a series on my channel of fixing and flipping a few mowers to make $2000. I’m sorry it confused you.
That's a $300-$500 mower
yeah, no where near 2k
First 😊
no one is going to pay $2000 for this mower
Your right. It’s part of the video series I’m making fixing and flipping from a free mower to $2000. This one sold for $400. Thanks for watching.
Go away troll. Watch the videos or stay in the peanut gallery
You said ran when parked, did your friend park it in his pond until you came to pick it up LOL? Asking $450 and taking $400 with new blades and battery is very fair, I would pay $400 for that in turnkey/ready to mow status:-) I would take that $400 profit and look for a super neglected zero turn next that can be flipped for a $1k profit:-)
I was wondering if he dug this out of a pond haha. Thank you. I thought it would be a fair price. I’ve been scoping some zero turns but haven’t found a winner just yet.
There was nothing wrong with it lol
That thing isn't even 2000 new
You are correct. Im making a series fixing and flipping mowers to make $2000. I explain in the video. Thanks for stopping by.
who would pay 2k for that lol omg u can get a new john deere for 2400 ok i got it now lol
It’s a series where I took a free push mower, fixed it and sold it. Repeat the process of buying mowers and reselling after repairs to make $2000. I explain it in the video.
You're up to date on your tetanus shots right?
🤦🏻🤦🏻🤷 uhhh maybe… 🤣🤣. I should probably look into that is all this rusty mess. Hahaha
Acemannismorris 😊
