Easiest way I have found to figure our if it is running on both cylinders is let it run for a minute then just spray a little water on each exhaust. If it steams up then it is running in that Cylinder. Hopefully it helps.
Great video and excellent troubleshooting. Last year (2021) my next door neighbor couldn't get his Husqvarna YTH24K48 to start after leaving it outside all winter, unprotected from the weather and rodents. So, he started taking parts off not knowing what he was doing & ended up with a pile of parts & a still nonfunctional mower. Result was he pushed it out to the street, put a sign on it saying "free garbage, good scrap." I pushed it home, took the engine shroud off & found a huge mouse nest. I removed the nest, cleaned the carberator, flywheel magnets, and magneto too. One hour later, some fresh gas & it started right up. It now runs great.
Great video, thanks for taking the time to make it. I have the exact same Husqvarna YTH24K48. I bought in new from Lowe's in 2013. It still runs great with 630 hours on it. I keep it in the garage and change the oil and filter every year.
it looks like the belt is routed wrong around the idler pulleys on the right side when looking at it from underneath ,it should run thru them and not just along the outside of them and that will take up the slack, the junk you found in the linkage definitely helped but there is still not enough tension ,i know this was 2 years ago but mabey this can help someone thanks for your videos
Good job, I learned lot . Just bought a used YTH 1846. First Husqvarna and first running tractor. I'm going to change engine oil, check plug and filter and, belts and pulleys.
I had the same problem with the clutch/brake not releasing fully; there's a sort of ledge or plate up under there where grass and stuff piles up and gets caked on stopping it from moving far enough. Cleaned it off and it pulled just fine.
I own a LGT2554 and a property with steep hills. It does just fine on them. I did put on a set of rear tractor tires to help out. When ever It feel like its getting sluggish on those hills I Check the belt and then it’s time to pull the tuff torq trans and change the fluid. They have a very good website with charts that tell you what oil to use depending on your trans. Or you could call them and they will tell you what you need. They’ll even sell you some. Great video, Good job and Thanks for sharing
My Tecumseh vtwin was running bad on 2nd use this season. With balance test I determined which cylinder. I switched plugs side to side and problem switched too. New plug and it ran fine. For balance test i put an inline spark tester on both cylinders as they have metal exposed that I clip a jumper wire onto. Then I just touch other end of jumper to ground.
Thanks for the tips. I'm having the same problem backing up. Foward is still good. I'm going to check the break area now since it's hard to see up under there. I'm ready to rebuild the transmissions since I have 750 hours on the machine. It still should have a fluid and filter change since it's supposed to be a matinance free transmissions according to the manual. Right!
I just got a free Husqvarna riding mower, had a bunch of little problems that made it unusable, easily fixed. Now it's a good mower. Online, I've heard people have a bad opinion of the Kohler courage engine. I guess it's common to swap it out for a Briggs & Stratton. Someone already did me the favor on this mower!
Mine is doing that same thing transmission wise. Loss if power suddenly. I'm going to chuck fir debris first. Be great if that is the only thing wrong with it. I have a YT-42LS with a Koehler engine. Thanks!😊
Most mowers from 2000 up are throw aways, the rearebds aren't the best, if it can be c removed just change the fluid, the batterys low also but the twins had carb issues. Id check the pump but before try gravity feed. There could be rust on the mag or plugs shot or the cinnector to the plugs loose inside
Sounds like a valve misadjustment to me, but spark also has to be correct. Carb is also dirty. Looks like good diagnostic on rear end drive slipping. So he is doing well. he is a good mech.
I really enjoyed your vid! This past week my neighbor put his Husky LTH1342 machine (Kohler engine) out on the curb with a "FREE" sign on it. We spoke on the phone about it.. and he said that the engine is hard to turn.. as if "hydro-locked". It had ran fine before he parked it prior to hiring a lawn service but when later attempting to use it.. he had trouble. He bought a replacement carb. for it.. but hasn't had time to put it on the engine. It's a 2005 model I believe. I'm fairly mechanical.. but not sure if I want to take a chance on fixing it.
My john deer x300 is acting like that. And I have a bunch of hills so maybe it wore something out. But it happened all at once. At the very end of my mow on a flat part it stopped going forward or back and makes a scratchy noise and only goes about an inch forward or back. Hoping it is something minor but I doubt it. The motor runs fine and the blades still turn on and cut, just no power in the back wheels.
I would have checked for spark at the right side plug before replacing the coil. i found my right side piston did not move up and down, hence a broken rod.
You need to run the engine at full throttle to get the blades spinning at the right speed. Also to slow down just don't push on the handles as far that is how you adjust your speed injoy it's a really nice mower.
Great video man, no bullshit just good old fashion eliminations of potential problems, also as an Australian who some times has problems understanding, you have great presentation and easy to comprehend. Congratulations one of the best on you tube.
Good video but after fixing the bad coil for the plug seems to me rusty areas of coil magneto needs to be shiny and clean and messy under deck with Crappy grass etc All they needed to do was Air blast it out with compressor after ever cutting reduces all that fatigue
You want an easier test to see if it's firing off both cylinders, just start it, and spray each exaust pipe, the one that doesn't evaporate immediately that's your problem cylinder, you don't have to unplug anything, just have a spray bottle of water.
I agree a great video but the first time I watched a video it had my lawnmower I would love it if I could see that one again Please it's a Sears Craftsman 65OOSERIS BLACK /SILVER
Hi there. I have a husqvarna lawn riding mower with 24 hp Briggs & Stratton that not start. It died on me when I was cutting my grass. It seems like no power but when I play with the electric wire, it has power showing the number of the hours on the meter then When I try to start I heard it crank a little bit then died again and no power again. Could you tell me what is wrong with that?
In the manual it tells you how to bleed the transmission! You disengage it using the pin, start it run forward full speed, reverse full speed, engage, and repeat! Dopes don’t read the manual!
He finds the opposite side inop, and immediately says this side is dead. Strange, he found the other side dead and mentally he goes to the onliest side running. Very strange man. We will see what is going forth, poor diagnostic at beginning. Giving him a chance for redemption.
Watch it again when he pulls the wires. The opposite side fires so that IS the good side. It was the side nearest to the camera that he first pulled the wires on and proves it is bad by disconnecting the opposite side, with the nearest side connected and no ignition.
?Free, I just bought one last fall. 3100Can$,Then I got a 42 inch snowblower to go with it for 3900Can$ installed. Not free. It's just a YTH22V46, Briggs .I am kinda depressed about a free lawn mower video now.
That's what happens when you have a dumb neighbor that doesn't know what he's doing. His loss is your gain..unless you want to give it back to him. Maybe charge him a dinner fee or just some beer for the fix it fee. 😊 Sure it would have cost him more money if he took it to a shop anyway.

LMAO, "free garbage, good scrap". Glad you got it running! Most cases, it's simple problems.
Q I
That's what happens when people don't know what they're doing and try to fix it themselves. Glad you got it running.
Give it back to him lol😅
Be a good neighbor and give it back.if he wants it.

They will last if you take care of them. (Most of the time)

Sure it was free… but your time and knowledge are priceless. Thank you for sharing🤝
Thanks for watching!

Great vid…. Yuppers ….clean after every use…. bought out YTH 2042 in 2011 … just routine maintenance …. 👍🏿 … great find ….
Good practice and patience pays off.

A free lawnmower usually is worth the price you paid for it !
Wish I could be that lucky... around here people still expect new prices for mowers that need work to even run.
Same here

In my local area, its amazing how many Lawn mowers get thrown out, with so little actually wrong with them!.
They get thrown out all the time!
Watch the brakets the transaxle is bolted to. Mine cracked then broke after welding them. Used angle iron to beef them up..!
You are one of the best on RUclips. Been watching you for years and l always find your videos are worth watching.
Right!
process of elimination is the way to go rather than jumping ahead to what YOU think it is ,awesome buddy
👍👍
I cant be that luckly free mower ..must be nice
I just got a free Husqvarna riding mower, had a bunch of little problems that made it unusable, easily fixed. Now it's a good mower. Online, I've heard people have a bad opinion of the Kohler courage engine. I guess it's common to swap it out for a Briggs & Stratton. Someone already did me the favor on this mower!
Next time when taking belt off put a string on it and when putting it back it will be easier to guide the new belt on.
Mine is doing that same thing transmission wise. Loss if power suddenly. I'm going to chuck fir debris first. Be great if that is the only thing wrong with it. I have a YT-42LS with a Koehler engine. Thanks!😊

Have a 2006 yth26hp that after 17yrs. Pistons blew had it serviced last Spring!😭 Lots of great parts still on it sure someone could repair it!

I have a mower that was given to me all it needed was a tune up and a new battery it runs and mows better than my cub cadet
Thanks, very nice.

Hoping you’ll don’t have lots of ticks down there because here on I20 we do
I love the set off hoods
Good job
Run it. If it sounds rough, spray water on both exhausts. If one steams and one doesn’t, that one is not firing.
Great find.
Good job there brother
Thanx no one could tell me where the solenoid was now in know Thanx to your video
What a great find
Yes it was!

Thanks, I'm glad you like my videos!
Wow what an awesome find!!!!
I got lucky on this one
The outer foam ring is missing from the air filter.
That was awesome!
Glad you liked it!
You know, I thought you might have checked for spark after it wouldn't start on that one plug. 😮
That was some good information! Thanks new subscriber.
I'm just curious why you didn't check the spark plug first?..but that's just me
Great video. I ticked ''like'' after 16 minutes.. I have just traded my JD LA 125, for a Husqvarna TS 242TXD, twin cylinder.
Awesome!
keep the good videos coming
Great content, nice job!
Good video but after fixing the bad coil for the plug seems to me rusty areas of coil magneto needs to be shiny and clean and messy under deck with Crappy grass etc All they needed to do was Air blast it out with compressor after ever cutting reduces all that fatigue
Excellent Work!
Thanks 👍
How difficult is it to change the rear and differential oil ? I've had my Husqvarna 11 year's, still no problem. Just as a maintenance thing. Thanks
It is really not that hard. I'm sure there are videos out there showing how.
Taryl fixes all has a good one about this.
You want an easier test to see if it's firing off both cylinders, just start it, and spray each exaust pipe, the one that doesn't evaporate immediately that's your problem cylinder, you don't have to unplug anything, just have a spray bottle of water.
Thanks for the tip👍
Wow, you showed that mower who's boss. Great troubleshootin. Great vid. Where's good dog these days? Lol. Thanks!
The dog is with my niece. I think I need another one or two more!
You did check it after all. TRANSMISSIONS ARE PRETTY TOUGH.
When I hear kohler I’m thinking bolts hitting flywheel and cracking block 😢😢😢 just seen so many of them 😢
I cringe every time I see one!
Check the drive belt. Loose stretched?
Great video 👍👍
Thanks 👍
If you own a rider you probably own a leaf blower, 5 minutes to blow it off after mowing🤔
Great job
I swapped out the oil in the diff of my Husqvarna. The local dealer told me that those are factory sealed and shouldn't be monkeyed with.
I agree a great video but the first time I watched a video it had my lawnmower I would love it if I could see that one again Please it's a Sears Craftsman 65OOSERIS BLACK /SILVER
Great video man thanks and good diag
Thanks for watching!👍👍
Where's it located I'll come pick it up
Same thing happened to me last year
Can we see the lift you use for mower
I believe it is a harbor freight lift.
Awesomeness ❤
Might be carburetor. You could get rebuild kit, or buy a new carb for $30. Easy install.
Best way to see which cylinder isn’t running is an infrared heat gun!
👍
What does it cost for a oil filter for a Husqvarna engine?
Under 10 dollars…..
Put a Kohler 7000 series Engine in.. take the Courage out
Or a Briggs & Stratton. They fit nicely.
The transaxel uses 30 wait motor oil
Tires get rid of the Turf Saver Tires put ATV Tires on it will Climb up hills just fine
Kill switch has a dio out
Mine a Briggs vtek twin
In the manual it tells you how to bleed the transmission! You disengage it using the pin, start it run forward full speed, reverse full speed, engage, and repeat! Dopes don’t read the manual!
Now that’s a really nice mower but rear ended is questionable
I just picked another up and did a video on it. The video comes out today. 👍
How do you get all this free stuff
Just lucky sometimes!
I found a free Husqvarna too. $200 in parts and two days labor, works great. Have you tried your local FB community?
Must loose parts working in grass
Do a valve job on it, it takes about 1 hour, so easy,,
Guy that owned this watching this video is now doing the Malcolm X gif in frustration 😅
He finds the opposite side inop, and immediately says this side is dead. Strange, he found the other side dead and mentally he goes to the onliest side running. Very strange man. We will see what is going forth, poor diagnostic at beginning. Giving him a chance for redemption.

3100Can$,Then I got a 42 inch snowblower to go with it for 3900Can$ installed. Not free. It's just a YTH22V46, Briggs .I am kinda depressed about a free lawn mower video now.
It doesn't happen often. Just got lucky.
the name on it
Do you want to sell that Husqvarna lawn mower I will buy it from you I need one very bad
Sorry, but I sold that one a long time ago.
😊👍
You need to check belt routing for that tractor
😅 run 🏃♂️ junk yard parts.
90% of the time it's the owners fault why they have issues with their tractor and it from the time they bring it home..
He already bought a new one.😃
Wrong belt is what I’m thinking
You are assuming everyone knows what you are talking about well we all don't
What ya got there is topical. Husquvarnas are all cheap made junk !
I need a transaxle for a Husqvarna yth 22v46
The belt that drives the trans-axle is probably slipping!
