I just LOVE that the whole family is involved and together, not to mention willing victi....um....participants. That's rare and wonderful in our day and time which gives us hope.
Grew up with a dad who was a JD salesman. I cried when I saw that HF engine. BTW just a little further up the family tree was the 318 which is probably one of John Deere's all time greats in the Lawn and Garden arena. A 318 would actually be a collectable.
It's stupid how moronic people are that will put a worthless ass bottom of the barrel chinese engine from harbor shit in there and be completely clueless as to why the mower doesnt run right and then stops working. its not hard to rebuild the original engine that you broke.
Oh yeah, used to have one of those. Very similar to the 316, had a BEEFY deck on 'er. Had to get it welded a couple times, the welder/farmer I took it to was an International guy. Quite jealous of that heavy deck.
@@justinbevier8231there definitely is, they’re Chinese junk. You can’t beat the original engine that would of been in it, I have a collection of garden tractors and each ones got a replacement engine I wish I can find an original
So glad Derek brought us along on another adventure with Tommy, Crane and the little humans that they are responsible for. The old Deere is running and mowing again.
A couple weeks ago a guy was mowin along just fine, till the beltalater that runs the knife whirler make it happeners decided it had enough... Thats fine. So I did the right thing and had a couple cold snacks instead.
This explains soooo much. Derrick, you have risen far from your very humble beginnings. Without dying. Acetylene to distance from fire ratio is obviously critical knowledge on the old homestead.
Thanks. We still have our JD 322 we bought new in 1988. At one point about 10 years ago I got on, turned the key, and nothing happened. I parked it and there it sits. This video has given me the enthusiasm to get it running again. Oh, it was very reliable except for the mower deck - it loved to throw belts, even when new. PITA job to replace them. Even the dealer was baffled.
Had one of the first one of those!! My dad bought it for me when I was a kid, so I could mow the several acres we lived on. Spent hundreds of hours of my life on that machine. Hydrostatic was a game changer! Onan twin ran forever!!

we've got a late 70's deere lawn tractor. Picked it up from a lady on FB for $150. Thing runs great. Has the original Kholer engine still, came with rear tiller, electric lift, and we just grabbed plow for it recently. terrific tractors. Going to do a full restore on it one day.
I have a 61 falcon 6 cylinder, ruined diff. What's special about it is that I gave it to my niece Cathy who was going to school to be a tech having to do with nascar. Loved racing and race cars, planned on fixing it. Before graduating she was diagnosed with cancer. She did graduate but the cancer took her shortly after. I can still get on her Facebook page and see the pictures, some have the falcon. There are drag racing pics, one of the cars reminded me of Tom's camaro. I don't have the means to do much with it, just sinking into the ground. If you could help it become a race car, I only ask its somehow dedicated to her. Thanks for all the videos Derek
I used one on my summer job 40 hrs a week three summers a row three months a year. Most durable badass lawn mower ever made. The 316 is God's preferred lawn mower. I'd love to own one like this. Not many around
I LOVE THIS CHANNEL! Thank you Derek, family, and friends for showing us what's been a dying breed of "Americana!" "Low Life High Life go let's go!" "Down to Derek's farm where I wanna grow old!" "Take us DOWN, Derek!" That tune was playing in a fellers head while another feller was out ridin' fence!
Deere made great garden tractors back in that era. This 316 is pretty similar to the 318. I still have a 318 myself that I have a 50 inch mower and the model 49 snow thrower for, it's a great machine. Still going nearly 30 years later. Hold on to that 316, they are built like tanks.
I've been a subscriber to your main channel for a long time, and I'm really enjoying this complimentary channel so far. Looking forward to when you do some cooking-based videos :)
That Chinese terra cotta art comment deserves a channel!!!! Derek you’ve been challenged and a guy can’t wait to expand his horizons gettin properly learnt up on Chinese terra cotta.
Hey Derek, Pro tip: When trying to do a tire plug...lube up the hole reamer with some rubber cement glue, it'll go in super easy then. Same with the plug or "worm", once you have it threaded into the insertion tool, lube that up and in she goes!
Another option is to just chuck up a 1/4 inch drill bit and drill out the hole. Still a snug fit for the plug but way easier for me than a reemer. I've been doing it that way for ages on my stuff. And even in a 10 ply that gets the full trail and highway treatment they have never once let go on me
I've got a 332 my dad bought new in 1988. 3300 hours on it, Yamnar diesel still doesn't use a drop of oil. 316, 318, 330 and 332 are all similar machines. All of them good tough old rigs. Well worth fixing up.

Had a ol John Deere that smoked more than a coal mine on fire but it was free. Tires on the front were dry rotted but still had good tread.
