Ridiculously consistent carry distances. This is exactly why Miura blades are so sought after. Great review guys.

I just got fit to these irons today with the Modus 130x Shaft and all I can say is wow! The consistent distance is amazing. Best iron I have ever felt. And not punishing when struck off centre.
Coming from the Srixon ZX5's and the Srixon Z- Forged irons, these MC-502's are a whole another level.

Got fit into a set of the stock MC501’s by Ian 3 years ago. After a season of not being able to get over the offset I custom ordered a set of MC501’s from Miura Giken and had them built exactly for what I was after; ironically enough what I was after and what I had them change are the exact same changes they made to the MC502- minus the rounding of the toe. After Mikey built them up I Don’t think they’ll ever leave the bag!

As a fitter myself I've gotten to hit every club under the sun, these are by far my favorite head I've ever hit. I will own a set at some point in the future.

There’s something magical about the feel of Japanese forged irons.
I have a set of Honma TW747V irons and no matter how many other sets I own and use from time to time, I always return to these and the feel just brings a smile to my face.

Been waiting for this review...Live vicariously through TXG! The new Srixon Z forged looks like they took some cues from Miura design. Even though I have no business playing pure blades...at some point I will own a set of these.
Miura’s are quality clubs, I’ve enjoyed my set. Wish more people would try them side by side, or could.
I have a set of the MB101's and they are an amazing iron, these have a hell of a consistent flight and performance
Backside reminds me of my old Mizuno Pro II T Zoids. Boy those were great
Just got fitted into these. Could not believe how forgiving the miss hits were, versus the other blades I was testing. Plus the amazing feel and feedback I'm looking for in a blade. Best of both worlds, minus the price. Pick two like they say.

You should test an old set of Adam’s MB2. They were made like 12 plus years ago and I swear it was 10 years ahead of the curve. Still the most accurate irons I’ve had till this day. Would give miura consistency as go

Great review as always! Interesting to see the tc201 replacement ... I love mine but if they made a mc501 which had less offset they'd be getting my money ... even though my tc201's are less than a year old

I like the 501, love the boxy look and high toe. Can’t afford those but the New Level 623m i play look and spec very similar

Idk if I will ever be able to afford the switch from tc -201 to the Mc 502 but Ian said it the best … no need but insanely impressive wow

The problem with Miura irons is that you don't need to upgrade for AGES! I had CB201s for several years and I've had CB202s for about 6 years now and just no need to get any other irons yet. These look good though 😋

I am probably not good enough to play them, which is why I play i210s - but am working at it!
Having looked at the loft specs, same as my i210s, so I might be able to play them. Incredibly consistent, which is what you want from a blade
The mc501 were pretty forgiving for a “blade”. If you can hit a 210 and are comfy with smaller look of these you’ll be fine.
Why would these not go right into the bag?? That was an amazing session!
Reminds me of the old Hogan Apex Channel Backs at address with a Mizuno T-Zoid back badge.
PGA Tour Superstore does carry Miura iron sets, and wedges.

I still play CB501’s. Tried the MC501, the aesthetics just weren’t there between square toe, offset and larger size. The TC 201 I personally did not like the feel & sound. These MC502’s sound like just the changes I was looking for to replace my CB501’s. Of course that’s 2 sets 4-9 w/Accra I-series shafts …. I’m guessing $8k? Buried in snow at present but heading to Houston to visit my son for Holiday’s, might just have to demo these 😊

Just hit these at a fitting. I was expecting my t100s to be a decent amount longer and these with weaker lofts and not made for distance were longer and I wasn’t hitting left with them

Were there carbon and steel heads on the Giken irons? Aside from weight, how would one tell?

I’ve tested the 201s and felt great…really spiny for me. Ended up with Vega VMB…dare I say a touch softer and more forgiving than Miura.
currently play Miz MP-20 MMC. Comparable? Similarly forgiving?

With the wedge and the 7 you were a little toe down but with the 4 you were a little toe up. Is that because of the longer shaft?

Also, very interesting to hear the difference between these and your irons! Along that vein: do the sole designs marry up with the two designs for particular reasons as well?

Loft question: why only 3° between the lower lofts but 4 or even 5 in the mid-irons and wedges? How is gapping preserved? Same with typical hybrid gaps...

Looks a lot like that design. Loved the OG Rac TP MB’s in the day. That coin forging used was magnificent to groove one.
Can you please review the srixon z x forged mkii irons ans maybe compare them to these? I feel they are the cheaper version and the zx forged mkii's are very consistent and feel absolutely amazing with some forgiveness. I would just like to see how they compare.

Nice to see standard lofts going normal distances
I’m not sure if there is such a thing as “standard lofts” in any club these days. Even Miura appears to be ‘evolving’ into boosted lofts. Other than their 401 multi-material model, Miura has stayed pretty “traditional” with their lofts over the years. That 33* 7-iron is 3* stronger than my CB-501’s. Of course they’ll likely build’em to custom specs but it’s interesting how these irons are so strong as ‘standard spec’ with a bit of offset
I think my 501s look better with the logo being on the back center, but that’s just me I guess.

You have mentioned before Moira heads are heavier compared to others. What sort of headweights are common for miura. Anything 270g+ for a 7 irons peaks my interest playing lighter and shorter shafts.
In my mmt 105 tx they came in at E1, in the steelfiber 115 F5 (x flex) they came in at D7. If you have a certain shaft you use I can throw it on my swing weight machine and let you know as long as I have that shaft.
What shaft was he using?
So the 6 iron would be 182 and the 5 iron 194. Phenomenal. Then going backwards the 8 iron 158 then 9 iron 146. Maybe that PW needs a wee bend Ian. Aye ❤
The last couple of good strikes were 135 David so that loft should be fine. First couple I hit poorly.
As a mb101 and tc201 owner, I need to see these in a head to head comparison. Por favor

What came first, this Miura or the new Srixon Z forged?
Neither, the new PXG came before both!
Based on the generally heavier heads, would you estimate Miura’s swingweight about 2 points heavier holding everything else constant (based on 4-5 gram heavier heads compared to most OEMs in North America)?
So I had no idea how heavy my mc 501s were.. I weighed them after taking 0.5 length off (3SW points down), then adding a 25 gram lite grip (“6” SW points back). So theoretically it should be +3 SW points from standard. It was a D7. So I put a heavier grip on it and got it down to a D5. MIURAS ARE HEAVY . But they’re 1/1 so there are no SWs unless specified on the order.
Miura’s are not “heavy” they are precise to ‘traditional standard’. The 265g 6-iron has been a standard since at least the 70’s, that’s what Lou Ortiz ground his irons to for various pros from that era. Each iron then progresses at 7g intervals, ie a 5-iron standard is 258g, 7-iron should be 272g, etc.
What makes Miura’s unique is apparently every single head will be the same, it’s part of the qc step before the heads are packaged for shipment. Most brands vary by as much as 3-5g.
Now with so many cast clubs, cast iron in 8-10% lower density than forged, depending upon if it’s pressure cast or not, the head mass can be lighter. With low mass hollow body designs and lightweights polymer inserts, even with some tungsten weighting, would not surprise me to see some oe’s producing 6-irons in 250g range. This is especially true on the distance focussed models w/jacked up lofts.
When swapped the 3-iron from my Miura CB501’s for a Srixon U85, I not only ended up with a club labeled a 4i, my CB501 3-iron is 22*, what Srixon call a 4i, I struggled on course with ball striking. I had done well on simulator but somehow during course play my timing was really poor affecting club release. We ended up flattening lie 1/2*, changing out the oe Recoil shaft for heavier Ventus HB 9X and adding a grams mass at hosel and 2 strips lead tape to back of club. It’s now a fantastic club that I am extremely confident with but in stock form it was C6 if I recall, my Miura’s are all D3. The U85 is slightly lighter at D2 but that’s close enough that I cannot discern a difference given my skill level.
I’m sure touring pros are more sensitive than I. Most likely would play the traditional mass Miura’s for the enhanced feel and control, you’ll notice many older pros add lead tape to modern cavity backs, if they play such clubs due to sponsor deals. Younger players who likely grew up playing lower mass cast clubs however may find the high swingweight Miura’s more problematic, unless they choose a high mass 130g shaft and even then add some weight to butt end of shaft. I do recall a story a couple years ago of a tour player who had his equipment deal expire was playing MB101’s that he had drilled out the muscle, presumably to assimilate the lower head mass cast clubs he’d previously played. In the end, I think it’s just what you’re accustomed to and feels best to you.

@@johnverheyen812 I don’t know if I’m just not consciously sensitive enough to swingweight or what. When I was getting fitted for my U85’s, I carry both a 22.5* and 19* replacing my 3-4 irons, occasionally swapping the 19* for Callaway Super Hybrid if course & conditions call for higher flying 3i, I was really happy with the stock fitting, which ended up as C6. I’d go out on coarse, the 1st hole I usually pull the 4i is 7th, a 220 yd par 3. At that point in round, even on my best ball striking days, I was struggling with both of the utilities. I would go to range, just to work on those 2 clubs and I’d hit really solid. I could shape shots as desired. Go back on coarse a few days later and again couldn’t hit either utility. It was only then my fitter noticed the low swingweight. We added lead tape and hosel weight, to get to D3, suddenly I was MUCH better on course. I honestly couldn’t tell THAT much difference. Certainly there was a difference but I just didn’t feel that it was so much to affect my timing. The added swingweight did however effect the flight, I found myself fighting the left side of course, which is big reason I choose utility iron over hybrid. I eventually went back for another fitting, we considered switching to the Callaway X forged UT. After that fitting we flattened lie 1/2* and ordered a Ventus Blue HB for the 22*. After installing that, I was in love👍. We eventually weakened the loft 1/2* for better gapping and ordered a Ventus Blue for the 19. Took over a year to get it all dialed in but the primary issue was low swingweight, which was largely imperceptible to me just swinging the clubs. Turns out I’m more sensitive than I would have thought, who knew 🤣
@@MichaelM-to4sg I notice swingweight. If it’s too light, my 2019 T100 irons were D0, I can’t keep the club behind my hands and my path is too out to in, which leads to unwanted fades. At D3 with my 2021 T100 irons, I keep the club behind my hands, swing in to out, and hit 3-5 yard draws. My TSi2 hybrid is D4, TSi2 fairway D4, and TSR3 driver almost D5. I feel the club head better throughout my swing, my sequencing is better, and I can hit my preferred draw.
I’m probably an outlier but the looks of the MC-502 don’t appeal to me. It looks like the MC-501 and MB-101 got together and had offspring, sort of like a partially melted MC-501. I prefer the MC-501’s sharper lines but I certainly won’t argue the stats on the MC-502. No surprise that I’ll be keeping my MC-501s and I’ll be swapping my PI-401s for KM-700s soon.

Out of interest, how easy and how much can these be bent - lie wise?
Does the spin welding make them weaker?
We bend them in the shop all the time, I wouldn't go more than 3 deg in any direction though and 3 would be pushing it.
@@asdfkhieee Thanks for that. One of the Clubmakers I go to stocks Miura, Mizuno and the rest. While he is happy to bend other brands 7 degrees - I know there are silly exercises where people bend over 10 degrees - he always refuses to do this with Miura

Fabulous looking clubs, but like Ian, TC-201s are better for me. Their quality is the best. I'm looking at getting a set of iron from them. I know they cost more, but it'll be a gift to myself and probably the last clubs I buy. Cheers.

These seem to have a lot more forgiveness than they are getting credit for. I don't think toe shots on a MB 101 are getting those results.

This club is a status symbol. I’m sure it’s also a great club but it’s more of a I’m richer than you product.
They resale well and they last. Really not that expensive in context. They're only a status symbol to golf nerds; the average golfer has never even heard of Miura.

As someone who’s played every brand, miuras are not overrated. They’re just rightfully expensive. Handcrafted meticulously 1/1 each iron made. The feel from a miura is untouchable by any brand.

Hi Scott, I could give you lots of reasons why Miura irons are not overrated, best in class manufacturing tolerances being top of that list. However I do agree that Wilson clubs are underrated, they make excellent irons!!
They do make a great iron, but definitely a little overrated. People make it seem like they are ten times better than anything else. If they were that amazing every tour player would have them in the bag.
@@whocares3986 100% disagree, after seeing the consistency of those numbers, knowing the tightness of their tolerances I don’t understand how they can be classed as overrated. You look at free agents like Adam Scott and Justin Rose who have been playing Miura recently. Tour players don’t play them because they are contractually obliged to play something else.
