MIURA KM-700 REVIEW // Katsuhiro Miura’s endless pursuit of perfection

- Today, Ian and Mikey dive into the all-new KM-700 Irons from Miura.
While drawing on 65 years of design excellence the KM-700 epitomizes Katsuhiro Miura’s endless pursuit of perfection.
Miura irons are highly regarded for their ability to deliver performance on off center hits. The KM-700 has taken this to another level. The innovative toe-cut grind works in unison with the hosel/heel to optimize the center of gravity position. By doing this Miura is effectively producing a larger “sweet spot”.
Miura says the head design will benefit all golfers from all skill level and the result of this model is so special, you can find his personal Hanko stamp each iron.

I’m a 16 handicap, been playing the KM700 with KBS Tour FLT shafts in stiff flex. Shot all my lowest scores with these irons, they’re by far the best looking, best feeling, best performing irons I have ever played. The most impressive thing about them is how they look like blades but are so forgiving.
This comment made me buy some 😅

This style of video was great. Seemed more light hearted but still all the information anyone could ever need. Testing the player to hit certain shots is great too. I think a lot of viewers would also appreciate in fitting videos a synopsis of the fitting decision - kind of going over the build sheet and why. Great stuff in this video
Thank you guys I started from 0 and I have learned so much from this channel!. I fond of Miura Irons. I don't know how many more people would love the same video but if I may suggest: It would be amazing to have a video were you can compare KM 700, MB 101, TC 201 and 501... what do you gain, what do you loose? when chasing one or the other... spin, land angle, carry, etc.
Thanks for the great content. Is hard to find technically sound and cliche-free information out there. :)
Really glad I found your channel a few months ago. Of all the RUclips golf channels I watch, I would only trust a golf fitting with you or Mark Crossfield. Too bad you aren't close enough to make that happen.
Where do you live John?
Been fitted here a few times
They are the best I've dealt with
His associates in the company are fantastic as well
I'm glad I ordered mine two days ago before y'all put out a video on them haha. Great looking irons. Can't wait to have them in hand.
They’re sweet
@@mikemartysiewicz our swings are different but club head speed not too dissimilar. I got them 1deg strong with the Mitsubishi OT 80g stiff. I was trying to see what shaft you had in it but couldn’t catch a glimpse of it.
We had 120gram stiff LA GOLF shafts in there.
I just ordered a set of Miura Tc-201 basically a tad more forgiving than the 502 same blade length but width is .016” wider but they eerily resemble the Mp223 got a mint set coming with KBS C-taper 125 S+ shafts for $1250 been hitting Hogan Icon blades this summer in my second year worked down to a 10 hdcp but could use the forgiveness and ball speeds I think I will get with the TC-201 wanted the KM-700 soo bad but sets were going from $1900-2500 I’m thoroughly happy I didn’t settle for the cobra king tour I got fitted in
Been waiting for this! Want to see Ian swing em!
I have been waiting for this one! Thanks boy class as always
These are probably the best looking irons out. I don’t think I’m quite there though. I was a little intimidated when I switched from srixon z585 to titleist t100s
T100s might be less forgiving than these. At first I thought the sole was too different but the look in the bag is beautiful and the 5 iron at address today at the range literally took my breath away. Miura-san put his stamp on it, put his soul into it, his last iron. And it is worthy. I hope you got a set or pick up a new set before they're gone. I'm even getting covers for mine, lol.
@@lkae4 wow! I need to hit these. 🔥🔥
@@donkee9 Definitely get some demo time first. The website has fitters. Ask them to see a 5 iron. It looks crazy lol.
Nice looking iron. A Miura always feels good, but I still prefer the MB-101 which has less offset. My new iron for season 2023.
This is cool. I’m not looking to buy these, but I do love learning about the engineering concepts behind clubs.
Mike's contacts were dead center and you could cover them with a US dime. Pro quality. And these irons sound great and fly like most of us dream about. Personally, I think any handicap level could play them if willing to work on consistent contact, which is something we all should work on. If the sweet spot is a bit smaller than on a game improvement iron, so what. I mishit shot is a mishit shot, but with forged blades like these a well struck shot just feels and sounds so good that it's all worth the occasional mishit. It's addictive, makes you want more. The good strike provides positive reinforcement to keep working at improving.
I was hovering around a 12HC for years, was gifted a set of MB 5002s and quickly got down to a 10 now. It's funny how missing the sweet spot makes you really want to concentrate and hit it so your teeth don't rattle out. Can't be timid with those or blades.
@@casualguy393 I just ordered the MP 223 version of Miura Tc-201 basically a tad more forgiving than the 502 same blade length but width is .016” wider but they eerily resemble the Mp223 got a mint set coming with KBS C-taper 125 S+ shafts for $1250 been hitting Hogan Icon blades this summer in my second year worked down to a 10 hdcp but could use the forgiveness and ball speeds I think I will get with the TC-201 wanted the KM-700 soo bad but sets were going from $1900-2500 I’m thoroughly happy I didn’t settle for the cobra king tour I got fitted in
@@boxerboy860 Good to hear. I am sure that you are going to love them. I love those KBS shafts too. I had them in my S-Yard GT irons and I really wanted to take them out and put them in my Miuras. However, I reluctantly gave the S-Yards to the VP of the Japanese Foot and Ankle Society and he gushes about them every time we meet. I love Cobra too. My BioCell driver will always be in my bag, I didn't miss a fairway for 3 months with it. My custom assembled 3-4w initially got ridiculed because it is the pink women's Biocell head on a 43" Aldila NV shaft, but that thing is almost as long and as accurate as my driver. If the Cobra irons are half as good as the woods then they must be amazing too. I just can't imagine dropping the Miura irons for Cobras lol. As for the blades, including Hogans, I can't see a time when I will switch to CBs. Despite playing terribly this year, one 4 iron shot was so pure that I actually thought I missed the ball because I didn't feel ANYTHING! It was like a deaf cowboy cracking a whip. I think it was the only time I was truly happy even though I lost the frigging ball hahahaha.
Been so looking fwd to this one
I bought this set as soon as it was announced to come out. Hands down the best irons I have ever hit!
Same. I love them. What shaft are you playing? I was fit in Feb by Ian for some CB-301s. He chose Aerotech Steel Fibre Private Reserve for me so I went with those in the KMs.
I’ve been tempted to pull the trigger on these. My MC 501 are still in pretty good shape and I still love them.
@@robertbogdan7058 I had the TC-201's previously with the Nippon Modus 3 120 Stiffs (same shafts in my PXG Gen 5 0311T's and my Srixon ZX-7's)
Good to know as I build these up!
@@FlyboyAF22 same shafts on my MC's as well, absolutely LOVE the set up!
This video is tricking me into thinking I could actually hit these
Those are so pretty!!!
As good as I've seen Mike hit, of course just as the season is coming to an end!
Ian orders it up, Mike delivers.
Great review guys. Like the beginning you are talking about who these fit. I am not there yet but gives me some good thoughts as I do come down in Handicap.
I am also a picker... I find the Srixon sole exceptional (especially Z745, and I assume, the ZX7 which looks very similar), but these might be next level...
Same... I just bought a set of z965 blades. Uh oh. Amazing condition, barely hit, and almost half the price of any srixon I could find used. £200 4-pw. Couldn't turn down a bargain! Hope they work out for me. Modus 120 stiff, grips look like they haven't been used.
Did you find the sole helped fat or thin shots being a picker?
I can't believe it was suggested to grind on Miura's perfection.... such sacrilege!
Yesssssss been waiting
In terms of forgiveness can you compare these ions to more readily available irons such as Taylormade 770 or something? There is no where here close to me that I could test these irons but I love the look!!!
You mentioned a fitting video for these for Mikey at the end of this one, has that come out/is it coming out?
I got fit for miura in February. I sold them last month. I’m not a fan. I appreciate those who are. I don’t like the offset. I am much happier with my new irons.
What irons did you get into!?
@@mikemartysiewicz Wilson D9 forged.
How would this iron compare to the stixon zx7 mkii? Ive been looking at these but dont want to jump into something that i wont like. I strike my irons well and my swing speed with my 6 iron is 96mph so distance is never a problem.
26 handicap. Bought these when they first came out. Absolutely beautiful. That being said, only really able to use the PW...and I use that now as my club around the green and it's perfect. I sometimes use the 9iron. The rest of the set down to 5iron are hard for me to hit consistently. If you even slightly miss hit them, I have found very little if any forgiveness. That is probably because of user error more than club error given my inconsistent swing. I compare them to my Mizuno JPX 921 Hot Metal and it's night and day. But then again that comparison is apple and oranges given the Mizuno's are game improvement vs the KM700 which are blades. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I would agree with them regarding max 10 handicap. I'll keep the KM700s I have forever though given perhaps I will one day be able to hit them consistently...and in the interim they are like works of art to look at and practice with.
These are pretty advanced clubs for a high handicapper like yourself. You made a great choice in getting these because with these you can set your goal to be able to hit the long irons consistently, and the satisfaction and appreciation for them will be enormous! With these, it’s not the plane, it’s the pilot. These are very special irons and your perception of forgiveness will change as you improve. Advanced players remark these clubs high levels of forgiveness. You are lucky to have these. One day I hope to own a set
would love to see a comparison with the fourteen rm-b with these :)
I have never seen any of the KBS graphite shafts on this channel, would be nice to see the TGI and the PGI against this LA shaft next.(and any other graphites you have, lets have a graphite shoot out)
@mike I'm gonna need some of these Muira's with LAGP 105's when I come up
No issues!
What shaft was used for this review?
How long would the wait time be on a set of theses ? If I got fit in November ?
Probably awhile buddy. Miura’s site says pre-orders will ship “Q1 of 2023”. Q1 runs from January to March.
What would you recommend for an iron for someone with the same numbers and shallow angle like Mike’s but not as good as a ball striker . 17 hip but on Arccos irons are a 12 driver 22 hcp 😢
Would you say the sole is designed more for the picker than digger?
How would you compare the KM-700 & the MC-502?
These clubs are beautiful. I have the KM-700 putter, but just can't bring myself to grab the irons...yet?
Do it do it do it !!!
@@mikemartysiewicz lol, trust I would...and might soon, but pulling my MP64s from the bag will require something next level.
apparently Miura said these are more forgiving than the TC 201 but who knows
less so than 301?
from what i read more forgiving than TC201 but less forgiving than 301.
I wish when you do these videos that you add some of the other irons like the wedge, 8 and 4, just so the consumer can see the entire set.
We normally do that but being so limited Miura couldn’t spare a set!! Full recap of them when the sets built.
18 cap here ,mine will be in next week .Why not get the best! (even if you are not at your best )YET
Are you guys planning to review the Fourteen TB-7 anytime?
Yes, that’s definitely on the agenda
Need a la golf l-series test asap
Could these be combo with 501s

Awesome club. Does it come in LH
What number iron is he hitting?
Can a low spin player benefit from more loft like in a blade (if the speed is there of course)?
Of course...changing balls would offer the most increase in spin as well
What shaft did you try it in?
LA GOLF L series 120 Stiff
Where does it stack against the tc-201’s in terms of ‘forgiveness’
I’m a picker myself I didn’t quite understand what I should be looking for in terms of sole
I’m not sure I believe these numbers. Mikey hits a cut a “little heavy” but still gets a smash factor if 1.44 on a GC Quad. 22 deg loft, 17 deg launch. If these are accurate these Muras are the most forgiving irons ever made .
What part of the numbers do you not believe? We can’t boost the ball speed, launch angle, spin rate etc. They are all measured outputs from the GC Quad.
1.44 smash factor with a mishit 6 iron. According to the Trackman website PGA tour average is 1.38. And, my understanding is that Trackman yields slightly higher smash factors than GC quad.
I am not saying you are manipulating the numbers, I just can’t see how that can be accurate.
Currently playing 919 tours 4-PW , TSI 3 Driver etc.. just got done playing 18 had zero issue with my driver , wedges and short irons 8-PW. I do not know why but once I get into my 7 iron I completely lose my swing. The only difference in my clubs is that I have GP Velvet 360s in my 8-LW and MCC +4 4-7irn. Is there a difference in weight between the 2 grips? I pretty much hit it out of the screws with my short irons but hammer high toe with my longer irons and I cannot figure out why? Possibly lie angle or swing weight? Shafts are DG 120 S300 . I know this is almost impossible to gauge from a online post but any suggestions would be nice 👍🏾
Could it be that your thinking about too much that your head is leading into that shot even before you hit it? There might be a
Which LA Golf graphite iron shaft did Mike have in this 6 iron?
It was the 120 stiff
@@clubchampionmedia Thanks. I assume that was the L Series .355 shaft in 4 (S). 120 grams. Wow, torque is just 1.5. 120 grams is heavy in steel. I have a set of Mizuno MP-67 cut-muscle irons with the Aldila NV Green MLTi pro-S graphite shafts. Those felt really stiff but were only 105 grams with 2.8 torque. They were tip stiff, low launch. Not for me any more at age 81!! But 120 grams in Mike's shafts with just 1.5 torque sounds like a really big boy beefy shaft. The X shaft is still 120 grams and the same 1.5 torque. This is a pretty expensive setup. The KM-700 irons cost $400 (US$) apiece. The LA shafts are not one of their options. On the LA website they cost $100 a pop. So are you looking at $500 per iron plus insertion and any puring? That would come to at least $3,000 for 5 through PW with the LA shafts.
Wait, there’s an MC-502 on the horizon? That’s the first I’ve heard that piece of news. I’ve been told all along (dealer/fitter through his Miura rep, other internet sources) that the KM-700 is the replacement for the MC-501. I plan to replace my PI-401s with KM-700s at the end of the year. I’m keeping my MC-501s (just got them reshafted) but now you’re clouding the horizon with talk of a different MC-501 replacement. More details please! (Scurries off to search for MC-502…)
There are pics floating around on golfwrx of the mc-502. Also the km-700 is not a replacement for any iron in the Miura lineup but more of a limited release. Believe these are the last iron Katsuhiro Miura designed.
@@timbuma3693 Thanks, Tim. I found the pics on GolfWRX and Reddit and I have to say I’m not a fan based on the pictures. It looks like they took all of the hard lines I like about the 501 and rounded them off. I’m still planning on getting the KM-700s when my dealer gets his allocation since I’m on his list. In the meantime I’ll continue to enjoy my 501s.
Hey guys, I play off 9 and have been playing the JPX 91 9 Tour irons 3-PW since they came out. The strength of my game is my iron play, I generally strike the ball really well and usually have good efficiency numbers. I am a high spin player and I tend to hit it quite high as well. I don’t struggle with distance, but I am by no means long. 155m 7i to give you an idea. I also pick the ball mostly, very rarely taking a large divot. Would these irons suit someone with that profile? I love the look, and I simply can’t play anything that does not feel something like a Mizuno! I have not hit a Miura yet but it sounds like you all love the feel.
Mizunos are lovely, but I play Miura MB 5002s, a 10HC, I pick the ball as well. I think you would love those clubs in the video, some muscle backs or even blades.
What’s the difference between Miura and Miura Giken ? The only km700s I can find are Giken
Giken are custom specs and only available in Japan. Miura is the US version
Hey guys what’s the specs on that LA shaft?
120 Stiff 37.5”
Thank you for getting back to me Mike which LA shaft is that. We have a very similar swing speed. I’m getting fitted sometime next week or two and I wanna make sure they have all the LA shafts.
The stepped design of the back of the head, for lack of a better phrase, seems somewhat reminiscent of the Ben Hogan heads.
Does it seem that Miura borrowed some of that design philosophy?
which la golf shafts?
Where is mac these days? Is he coming back?
wondering the same.
They said he was doing some travel. I think he’ll be away for a few more weeks
He’s been doing some content with trottie(team Taylor made clubmaker I think?)
I have been playing MC 501s for a couple of years. I just received my KM 700s and played a couple of rounds with them.
Here are a few of my early observations. The 700s have a thin top line. To me, definitely a blade look but surprisingly, not too difficult to hit. I was surprised how hot the face was given they are forged irons. My 6i was half to one club longer than my 501s. Lastly, they are freaking beautiful. Funny enough, when I first saw them, I didn’t think much of them but they grew on me. When I heard they were Miura-sans last design, I had to pick a set up.
I will need a few more rounds to fully groove these in but it’s a good start so far.
I heard that the 502 is harder to hit
Take it to the grinding wheel an throw an little bevel on it'. ..
Mr. Miura .. aka the Hand of God be like .. ..😳
Really would like to put these in my bag. Worried I’m not good enough at a 7 handicap but really want that feel. Anyone playing these around a 7?
I want to play them at 23.5. I can deliver your average angles of attack and decent club head speed. I’m just inconsistent. Pures and shanks and not much in between.
Polar opposites, but the sole design reminds me of the Ping Zing 2
Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't we, in our aspiration to become better golfers, supposed to hit the ball first and then the turf? While I get the logic regarding wedge sole dynamics where often we need to hit behind the ball, I'm unsure as to why Ian says that the sole helps ball striking.
Not an expert on this topic but you want to strike the ball before the turf for sure. I guess how the club goes through the turf which is a function of the sole design will make you subconsciously make slight adjustments to the swing.
A wider sole for someone who is more of a “sweeper”, is more forgiving.
Something with a thinner sole will dig into the ground much more easily, less margin for error. Fat shots will still be fat even with a wider sole.. but it’s about increasing the margin for error.
Someone that delivers a great attack angle may not like wider soles because of how it interacts with the turf after contact.
The low point of the swing is supposed be after the ball for good ball striking. What happens with someone who’s shallower, and low point is at or just after impact, is the sole will still interact with some grass leading into impact. If this is happening with a thicker sole, there’s a greater chance of hitting a shot fat, but a thinner sole gives more clearance and makes it easier to slide the club in behind the ball without interacting too much with the ground.
@@dominikaltheimer9992 I am a single digit hcp and have played with old school (Mizunos) blades for 20+ years. Typically, I take a dollar bill, or smaller, sized divot. I have tried several of the modern (I guess I'm old!) irons with a wider sole and find them to not suit my game. I know that club manufacturers have come up with some good ideas over the years regarding forgiveness but much of the rest is simply marketing trying to sell more clubs.
@@glennwiebe5128 interesting feedback! I have the same divot pattern and picked the P770 specifically for their sole design. I’m a higher handicap golfer but most forgiving clubs have soles that didn’t work for me.
I love a thin soul what is the lightest clubhead weight with a thinnest soul that gets the ball up in the air I prefer a small head but willing to be open minded
CB-301 or these for 90-95 scoring golfers? Wanna get my first set of Miura but feel like I'm not good enough for any of em..

Hello, I'm less interested on Mike's perfect swing than in what the club is doing. Mike shouldn't be the star of the video, the KM 700 should be.
miura 501 is worst iron theyve made by far. bring back the cb57!
10 handicap that strikes his irons “unreal” hmmm don’t think so champ.
So why could a 10 who is a very good ball striker not use these?
@@krusher74 not saying they can’t use these. What I’m saying is a 10 handicap is not a very good ball striker.
@@jwild5360 he could be if he chips poorly and takes 38 putts>
@@neilcameron3021 bro if someone is a “solid” ball striker they are not going to be terrible at any other part of the game. Especially chipping and pitching. A solid ball striker is shooting under par regularly. Our definitions of solid must be in 2 different worlds. A 10 handicap who regularly shoots 84-85 often 90 and sometimes 81-82 isn’t “solid” at any part of the game. It just doesn’t work that way.
I know a hell of a ball striker that’s a 10 but just struggles off the tee so his iron play has to be money but off the tee gets him into trouble and short game is 50/50
