Our 578 is now preserved at the Ohio Railway Museum in Worthington, where I volunteer. We are open every Sunday 12 noon to 4 pm. 578 ran at our museum from 1960 until 1978.
at 4:55 I thought that shot looks familiar and then I realized, that's 578! she's on exhibit in a meuseum near my house! I plan to restore her and use her for mainline steam, but I'm only 13
Narrated by the same man who narrated the 4501 documentary "Then there was one." I still think Ralph Morse had a better voice that matches the video's time period better. May he rest in peace.
Great video and sound. I remember the sound of those Y6B's and wonder if you have footage of N&W pulling out of Saltville, VA in the late 50's and early 60's? They were massive pulling up a slight grade.
Idk if it would be possible to make a soundtrack with all the music you guys have used in these films on the Norfolk and Western because I love the music it's so fitting and I hate that I was never able to find it because it's really well done and that's what I love about it
Unfortunately, no, we can't. All the music is licensed for one time use in the videos or DVDs and cannot be assembled into CDs that could be sold to the public.
There appears to be one scene in Pocahantas Glory Volume 8 preview above where a J meets a Y6b engine. However in between engines the scene is cut out, at least in the preview. Is the scene any better in the actual DVD, like are both engines shown in one shot in their entirety?
There is a scene in the above preview where a J meets a Y6B at Christiansburg. However, the scene is cut out in between the two engines. What is the scene like in the actual program?
There is a difference between authentic sound - which is real, to be sure - and the sound of what we are seeing. I am thinking these videos, while done well, are all dubbed
Yes, since the original film was silent. It takes me many hours to search the correct sound and apply it. All sound is from original recordings made in the 1950's, much of it from the same railroad and locomotives you are viewing. If you want it silent just turn off the sound. -JH
No no no - don't mistake what I was saying. I think it is very well done, but I noted a few discrepancies. Sorry, its the cop in me. I love the videos, and this is no doubt the best dubbing I have seen!
I seen a DVD of the Punkin Vine and the K2a pulling passenger from Winston Salem to Roanoke. I rode this train from Martinsville or Bassett to Roanoke and would love to see the movie but cannot find it. Also had a Y6b on freight through Stoneville, NC, Madison, NC, Martinsville, VA and Bassett, VA.
the video you're looking for is "Norfolk & Western Steam in the 1950s Volume 2" by Main Line Motion Pictures. Volumes 1 and 3 may also have some Punkin Vine footage but, I haven't watched them for a while and don't remember.
How much steam is in this volume? And why isn't the complete series on youtube? And how good is the quality of the films? I discovered at least two scenes on this preview that had what I call "lightning" on it
The footage is going to be as good as Mr. Herron and the team or he, himself can restore. It's not going to be perfect, but, from what I have watched over the years, it's a great job. It's as close as it gets without stepping through your screen and showing up back then.
The reason is because Herron Rail is a company. They have to make a profit. This is only a taste to get you excited for the DVD. Once you purchase it, you will own it forever, but please DO NOT upload the whole thing to RUclips. That is pirating a video, which is stealing and taking potential revenue away from the company @Carolina Trains.
He’s talking about the previews.....just upload the previews.....obviously not the entire collection. I plan to buy this one.....and will likely buy others that I can PREVIEW first. :)

I love this DVD preview. I love Class M locomotives, the freight trains and all that awesome stuff.
I got to see J 611 and M 382 (475) doing run-by's and photo ops together this past weekend (Oct 6, 2019) at Strasburg.
What is the name of the music in the "Steam & Diesel of the PRR vol. 2" PRR J1s and Santa Fe at Sandusky OH?

Good times
N&W 1218 even trains like you can have RUclips channel
Now you sit at VMT
awesome great catch thanks for shareing
This is one very nice piece of work you've put together, I know that the audio isn't synchronized, but it sure beats silent film.
This guy sounds like distant signal on RUclips!
That's because it is! Shoutout to Danny Hartman
Great video and sound. I remember the sound of those Y6B's and wonder if you have footage of N&W pulling out of Saltville, VA in the late 50's and early 60's? They were massive pulling up a slight grade.
I wish a couple of the Y6Bs were preserved
Too bad N&W didn't save one of the last and the best, 2197, instead of 2156.

Some N&W Steam Survivors.
Such as N&W 2050, 2156, 611, 475, 578, 433, 1218 and more
I got the Lionel version of that 2200 its a nice model.
Wish they had preserved one of the last Y6b's like 2190 or 2200. They were only in svc a few yrs!

Danny Hartman?????
No, Danny Harmon is the narrator.
Nice one, Jim!
Thanks Tom.
Hey hrvideo, this is Bob. Did you ever think of putting the original non-edited footage from the Pocahantas Glory series on your youtube channel?
Assuming you still have non-edited versions of the films from the Pocahantas Glory series, did you ever think of posting them on your youtube channel?
No
If Jim Herron narrated the first four volumes and Russ Wheeler narrated the next 3, I wonder why he didn't narrate this one.
The narrator of the first four volumes was Ralph E. Morse. I did not narrate any of these programs.
-JH
oh yea I get that mixed up with you JH. But is there a reason Russ didn't narrate this volume?
Danny Harmon is a professional narrator who lives close to me and he is also a railfan and has narrated several of our recent videos.
oh Okay but is there a reason Russ Wheeler didn't narrate this particular volume? Did he retire? Had problems?
Because I chose Danny Harmon for this one. Russ is a fine narrator as well but I chose Danny to do this one.
What's the name on the Southern Pullman filmed at Bristol?
It appears to be 12 Section 1 DR "McElderry"
-JH
Thanks Jim. Great film.
why don't you guys upload volume 1 2 3 4 5 6
There are previews for the previous volumes on the DVD.
hrvideo but why can't you guys upload the rest on youtube ?
