Loved the video! Is it possible to do a video on fish to water ratio based on daily feed input and sizing of the filters for the same?

"You can use anything rigid enough to hold its form without breaking down"
    - Avoid concrete
    - Avoid stainless steel
    - Avoid anything that will potentially leech into your system / continuously alter water chemistry
    Re: Mineralization tanks
If you're growing things that are intensive flowering or fruiting crops, you'll ideally want a mineralization tank, or some means to extract the full sum of nutrients from the fish tank (such as an in-line, dark nektar style worm bin)
    Re: DWC Beds
DWC beds having suspended solids is only a net negative if:
    1) your oxygenation is less than adequate
    2) you lack a population of filter feeders / bottom feeders like gammarus in your system
    3) you have no means of blasting the particles from the bottom of the tank up toward your plant roots.
With a proper environment in place, having some solid matter in DWC (suspended or blasted from the bottom of the tank using infusinators / microbubbles) can be beneficial for root dwelling bacteria and the aquatic food web.
DWC's on their own don't make excellent biological filters on their own compared to a MBBR or a media bed, or even a well planted NFT bed using plants like watercress.

Just FYI, if you use metal tanks for anything, they must not have zinc or copper in them due to being toxic to fish.

I would like your opinion on rotary drum filter ( RDF) they very popular in aquaculture and ponds but not aquaponics. RDF can be expensive compared to diy and bead filters but they have come down on price and are great mechanical filters if you the combi it takes care of both mechanical and biological. They are also great because of very little maintenance.

Thks for the vídeo! I'm just starting to plan a small hydroponic set-up. I see a lot of people only using fish, but plants need more then just hydrogen. Is it better to add the rest of the minerals like filtered compust tea before the growing beds or after? Thks

Your design is not good for plant to get nutrition. Because the diagram you show on the screen: from fish thank - filtre - degassing thank and to plant ..you have filtered out all fish waste how can your plant grow without getting any nutrition from fish?

Thankyou thankyou thankyou for the knowledge, I’m from indonesia and am starting to make a commercial scale aquaponics system, I have a question, how long do you recirculate the water from the fish tank to sump back to the fish tank again? Do I need to refill the clean water once in a while? If yes then how long until I need to refill all of those water system? Thankyou.

You want the total gallons of water in your system to bs recirculated about 1.5-2x per hour. That means soong a bit of math...
Grow beds hold 40 gallons total in 2 beds. Total sysyem is 100 gallons. You want those grow beds to cycle every 10-15 mins for a total of roughly 4-6x per hour meaning you have recirculated 160-200 gallons over the course of an hour.
As for additional water, keep in mind that this water MUST be sage for the fish while being added. It can also have an immediate impact on your ph. That being said water will be used by the plants and some loss will occur due to evaporation. Keep the system topped off as you see fit, but make sure you always have more than enough to never run your water pump dry as this will likely be the end of your pump.
I have an putdoor setup in texas and in summer at temps regularly hitting 105 degrees I can sometimes end up losing 20 gals or more in a single day. I use a filter attched to my garden hose that is specifically made for koi ponds to quickly top off water. My fish dont mind a slight ph swing and my system will bring my tap water ph down to a comfortable level in a day or so without the addition of chemicals. Hope this helps. Good luck!

I have a question Why cant you just put mesh bag direct into the main fish tank? Why It has to be in the Filter?

    • @NewAgrarian
      @NewAgrarian  Год назад +1

You could, it would work that way. Just may get particles on it from food or fish waste, or clog outlet pipe
