Pro tip from a horticulturist, go vertical you'll get so much more productivity out of that little space it will blow your mind. Other than that way-to-grow.
most informative no bullshit video ive everseen in my life.thank you. thank you thank you thank you. we just bought a house with an aquaponics set up and im trying to make sense of whats heads or tails on it. you rock man
I feel like growing the produce horizontally like that is extremely space inefficient, you could have multiple layers of horizontal platforms or even growing on vertical walls or poles and be able to grow at least quadripple the amount of produce in the same space. I did learn a lot from this video and am very grateful for this channel, will be building my own aquaponic farm. Thanks!
i think it's already efficient since it has income which from plant and fish. if you make it a vertical setup it'll need more fish tank since it need more fertilizer for the plant
Question: What do you use for lighting? Natural, LED, T5? Thanks for such a great insight into this setup. Its nice to see one thats not incredibly over engineered like a lot of commercial setups are. By the design and thought you put into this Im guessing you've dealt with aquariums in the past. Saying that because i recently have been asking myself why I havent got into aquaponics yet when literally everything about this is pretty much plumbing, flow, and water quality. Also I look at other setups and im like guys it doesnt have to be this complicated lol. There's a ton of room for DIY innovation in this space. Very refreshing to see this setup.
Love this !!!!! This is something I would do, but I would go vertical to fully save and take advantage of space. Can you do this with different types of fish in the vats, like koi, catfish, tilapia
This looks great! Have you considered an overhead sump configuration (grow beds above fish tanks). I use this configuration in grow tents but there might be obvious reasons why it does not scale. I use the roots as biological filter, helped only by those high density filter pads. It works amazingly well, but I can see why you’re obsessing pre-filtering in a commercial settings.
Cool video, thanks! I would have liked to have seen the fish. Also, it would have been nice to get some details on how much the system produces, (fish and vegetables) and what it costs to run, (fish food, power, etc)… thanks
great setup. interesting how many filtration methods you combine. I wonder a bit about your energy consumption because you use a lot of tubes with tight curve radii. I prefer wider curve radii because energy cost is a factor in aquaponics to be profitable at all.
You're using the pump without a sump. So how do you manage the flow? Even if there is a timer, the water from raft to fish tank will reach much faster than the gravity flow from fish tank till raft. So how do you mange the issue of rafts overflowing vs raft emptying fast - without a sump ? Also, are you able to achieve total fish tank water cycling in 1 hour as per the standard says ?
Awesome Videos!!! May I know where you purchase your air stones? Does it comes with the airline attached or you need to connect them yourself? Thank you so much!!!
Nice setup! a question on your pump, is it always ON by 24/7 ? do you have any spare pump to anticipate if the main pump is broken ? nice channel! keep producing aquaculture videos like this. Regards from Indonesia, the RAS system enthusiast ;)
Fish tanks need to be shaded in an aquaponic system if you don't want to have tons of algal growth. There are some systems that benefit from algal growth (crawfish and shrimp I believe)
You’re talking about the iron supplements? I have been taught to store them in a dark place when not in use. I would imagine they get utilized in the water before they are broken down
What are your beds made of? Just a wooden frame with a tarp inside? Also, where did you get those awesome tanks for the fish? Everything I've seen is stupid expensive for 1/4 of the size.
yes it is possible but you have to watch the pH. In concrete tanks it tends to get very high (10 and more). But above 8 you get a chemical change from ammonium to ammonia, which is highly toxic to fish. So you might want to paint the inside walls with resin or cover with other materials.
I've seen some of your videos and wanted to pick your brain. Would you recommend any books that would teach aquaponics for small to large scale systems? I have bought books on subjects before that does have the information required no matter how much you might spend. This is why I ask for your help. By the way, if you think using a system that is not going to make money for you in return is not worth it, may I try to broaden your view a little? GMO's and organic is better for you and if a family eats mostly vegetables and wants to make sure they have good produce raised right, all year long, then it is an investment in well being. Then also if they raise their own food and the grocery bill is diminished, it is like making money. I heard one homesteader diminished theirs, I think it was about 3 years, down to 60% of what they use to pay. Better health? Less money for food? All the incentive needed. Any way I remember you saying something like an aquaponics system is not worth it unless it turns a buck, in one of your videos. I hope with what I mentioned might broaden your view a little in that area. I hope to hear from you soon on those books. May the Lord Jesus Bless His.
Buddyy thanks for ur videos and information... Im about to get a fund to start a commercial aquaponics system and i really really need sole help doing it.. Please if u read this give me a hand and help stand on my feet 🙏 ofc won't be fir free. I just need help to start..
Hi, do I see this right? your fish tanks are fully covered and the fish live in the dark all the time? This is not a good idea, like every living creature they need a light ccycle to produce vitamins and hormons. Finally it is a question of a humane farming environment.

@NewAgrarian Yes please!
@NewAgrarian would love to send you a pic of our set up if you ever had time to take a glance and let me know if I'm missing anything!
Did you ever get the help needed
Great video, love the walkthrough and seeing your system!
Wow great video production and video was very interesting.

I would have one if there wasn’t a concrete floor. We have to rely on the DWCs to act as a sump. Yes we are able to achieve the one cycle per hour
Excellent, Could you please share the aeration calculation and water flow capacity for these two beds.
Hello. Did you put the sterilizer in the system and what do you think about it now? Thank you.

Pentair aquatic. Do it myself

Yes, and yes
@newagrarian do you have a link for the pump? or a similar pump for a ibc tote or a large 3 ibc tote capacity
Awesome video! What kind of lighting are you using?
Only sunlight ..
I am wondering what are the sizes of all the tanks you have? And how many of those tanks feed into your deep water beds? Thank you!
Greetings, what is the minimum size of farm would you say that is commercially viable?? Thanks!!
Put the links for your other videos in the description please. It’s hard to find the exact video if I don’t click it when it pops up on screen
Friend, where do I get the floating trays?
Foam insulation boards, hardware store
Do the fish tanks need light? Or do the fish live in total darkness?

NICE!, I'd like to copy this system someday! I am slightly confuse about aquaponics particularly the establishment of the pipings and waterflow.
If you have any questions about setting up a system. I will gladly bless you with some knowledge.
@@mattdias8051 .how often do you change the Water ? Thank you.
@@jeanillouwrens1615 You don't! That's one of the benefits of aquaponics
Where do you get the fish tanks?
One question about the uv light, that doesn't creates any issues with iron collapsing from the water?
You’re talking about the iron supplements? I have been taught to store them in a dark place when not in use. I would imagine they get utilized in the water before they are broken down
Do you need some additional supplemental nutrients for plant in the water?
Yes. Check out my iron vidoe

I have another video on the bed construction, but yes. And I got the tanks in 2014.. they have increased in price quite a bit

Whats the ROI for commercial Aquaponics.
Or general cash flow at least.
you didnt add a link for the metala media like you said homie
Updated, thanks
Hey, what is the “Calmless Media” in bio filter tank?
Caldness media. K1, or K3, or micro k1 depending on the application.
@@DanDannyDanielleBob Thanks
How much water loss is there to the plants and evaporation?
I’ve never measured, you do want to minimize it
Would it be possible to visit your farm?
Message me on Instagram
Have you guys every thought about using a fresh water crustacean like a red claw?
Where do you get your Styrofoam rafts?
Local hardware store
I am having a difficult time finding a source for the rafts. I am building two aquaponics systems. Both Deep water.
@@NewAgrarian can you tell me exactly what the rafts are called at the hardware store?
Polystyrene insulation board. Lowe's has tons.
What kind of styrofoam and where can I get it
You can get it at Lowe's. It's called polystyrene insulation
How big is this greenhouse?
20x80, the system is probably 20x65

ow many tilapia fish you have for 1 plant?
Check out my feeding ratio video for this answer

Have attended a few classes and visited farms. Mostly self taught aside from that
How many plants can you grow in total in Your System?
Depending on what rafts are in the system, 720-1000

They get light when I work in there and feed them. Other than that, yes it’s dark. No complaints from them
