    I really like these longer videos where we follow along as you build. And that you explain when things don't go according to plan. Here in south Norway we are moving into summer properly, I just harvested my first hand full of strawberries out of the garden this year. Somehow they always taste best out of your own garden.

    Hi Rob, i allways glue my outside fittings, if they need to be reused i just cut them shorter.

    • @RobsAquaponics
      @RobsAquaponics  Год назад

      That's one way to go. 👍 I find the tape & screw works well too (if you pay attention to what you're doing😉)

  • @Linkatron13
    @Linkatron13 Год назад

    You can always burn out your pvc fittings with a bit of glue or a heat gun to heat the pipe and a screw driver/ some multigrips to pop out the old pipe.

    • @RobsAquaponics
      @RobsAquaponics  Год назад

      I heated pipe to remove pipe from fittings (all the valves used were reclaimed that way) in the past. 👍
      Not a huge fan of the method as it can release some toxic chemicals into the water if over heated.

  • @nunyabusiness7001
    @nunyabusiness7001 Год назад +3

    One thing i suggest for anyone reading, use pressure glue (green), not because blue is bad or whatever, its great, but i reuse a lot of my fittings elsewhere (as does Bob haha as he is grabbing a lot of these parts from elsewhere/other systems) constantly when i cut em up and mix and match so using pressure glue i can still use these parts for non pressure or pressure regardless of what i am doing. and both glues cost the same so might as well just make it pressure fitted

    • @RobsAquaponics
      @RobsAquaponics  Год назад +1

      Good idea NB. The pumps I use are all low pressure so blue works fine. I've seen they use the green on the large fountain jobbies.
      Cheers mate & have top one.

      @nunyabusiness7001 Год назад

      @@RobsAquaponics i have a mix depending on what i am doing also getting town water from one side of the property to the other and whatever. I used to just use blue too, but then i kept having to store me fittings separately so i was like fk it haha same price might as well make everything pressure then in the future it wont as its all pressure haha

      I ring around plumbing suppliers & see what price they can do. I think the big "B" store normally has the cheapest.
      I like to use these guys for the PVC & Polly fittings & valves, irrigationstore.com.au/collections/pvc-pipe-fittings-1
      They have a flat shipping fee & the price is WAY LOWER than the "B" store.
      Hope that helps some mate.

    What would be the difference if you have the media filter before the settler tank?

    • @RobsAquaponics
      @RobsAquaponics  20 дней назад

      The solids would get smashed up a fair bit which would make them smaller. Smaller solids generally require a longer retention time to settle out of the water column so that's why I run the setter before.
      There's nothing stopping you from running a fines filter after the bio if you're concerned about the small amount of particulate that gets through.👍

  • @zombi3907
    @zombi3907 10 месяцев назад

    Question: What is your thinking on the barrel versus cone configuration for the radial flow settling tank? Based on the video you linked, the cone shape seems like it would be ideal for removing the solids. Is it a cost issue, convenience, or is there a functionality advantage to the barrel style that I don't understand?
    I apologize if you have already answered this question before in a different video. I have watched a lot of them. When I lived in Hawaii a few years back I had a great aquaponics system and the community is huge there. I am about to move to a climate which will make starting one up again viable so I am studying up again. I plan on buying your guide once we buy the new house! Thanks for everything and good luck!

    • @RobsAquaponics
      @RobsAquaponics  9 месяцев назад

      Cone based tanks are expensive here & out of the budget of most backyarders I've helped along. I find the flat based drums work OK as long as you can sort out a decent plumbing fitting to draw the waste out.
      I was gifted a 50gal barrel with a cone welded onto it that I'm wanting to use but due to the height it isn't suitable for the systems I've built here so far. I will be putting it to use on the new farm we're purchasing at the moment though. 🤔😉
      I hope the build goes smoothly when the time comes Zombie.!
