  • John from www.growingyour... gives you a tour of a vertical aquaponics farm that is using sustainable bamboo towers to maximize production in a commercial greenhouse to grow vegetables and fish year round in Salt Lake City, Utah.
In this episode, John visits Dachnick Domes and Aquaponics, that provides commercial aquaponics solutions and shares with you four independent aquaponics systems that can grow food anywhere.
First, John will provide you an overview of the Vertical Aquaponics system sharing with you more about why the company was founded and how they will release a all-in-one aquaponics greenhouse dome kit that will be powered by the sun.
Next, John will provide an overview of the aquaponics system in this greenhouse,, and then take you on a tour of many of the different areas of the aquaponics system so you can learn how an aquaponics system works and how specifically they are using their growing space to maximize their production of the vegetable crops they are growing.
You will learn about the sustainable bamboo towers that are used to grow in the vertical space above the gravel and float beds that allow them to get 10x more production than without using the vertical space.
John will then share with you the basics of an aquaponics system and the nutrient rich water flows through the system to feed the various vegetables growing in the different areas including: gravel beds, float beds, bamboo towers and soil based containers.
You will see for yourself how food is being grown in all these different areas and some tips of specific crops that can be grown under the different situations.
You will also learn two in-line water conditioners that are being used that may help to increase the health of the vegetables and fish.
John will then take you up into the 15 foot tall cherry tomato plants to show you the abundant amount of tomatoes that are growing under this aquaponics system.
After watching this episode, you will learn more about vertical aquaponic farming and what is possible using aquaponic, aeroponic and other technologies to increase production of fruits and vegetables.

This is a great video. I have an endless supply of large bamboo nearby and it's an invasive species at that location so ecologists will be happy if they see me cutting it. I also feel better about just tossing a renewable bamboo tower that's contaminated rather than trying to sterilize a contaminated pvc tower.

Smartest thing to do now to protect these greenhouses is to buil them on ultra high concrete blocks- higher than the height of houses so if floods occur the much needed food will be safe and food will not die like most crops have like they are across America and other countries. This is a smart solution.

Hey there my name is Daniel Wagner from Nature Ponics LLC, the bamboo towers are my addition to this system. I would do an interview to talk about the bamboo side of things anytime!

    • @coma-body-stilllife
      @coma-body-stilllife 7 лет назад +2

Hey Daniel, I'm interested in knowing about the bamboo and its implementation as a tower medium instead of inorganic towers. How did you go about tubeifying the bamboo to remove the nodes in between? It might be possible to drill small holes through each node for the water to drain down, but I imagine roots may clog the hole? How did you go about creating the 45° plant inlets? If the holes are circular and not oval, how did you cut the bamboo inlets to fit onto the main shoot?
I ask these because I myself am experimenting with non-toxic/organic means of producing towers. My current design involves four 1.5"² x 5' support poles with 1/8" plywood connecting them to form a rectangular tower. I then drill holes in the plywood and hang net inside and fill with hydroton balls.
I would love to hear about your solutions and design!

I can’t attest to this particular situation. I only have personal experience with bamboo in Western PA. Outdoor structures usually last a year or two unless there is special treatment used to preserve it. In UT though, I could see it lasting a lot longer because of the drier climate.

The problem with trying to go vertical is that firstly, you will not get as much sunlight exposure unless you use artificial lights (which can be prohibitively expensive), and secondly, and more importantly, the energy required to pump water becomes greater the higher you need to pump it. This means a much stronger pump is required that uses a lot more energy; given that these are individual and separate systems, I would be pretty curious to know their energy expenditure..

What are your thoughts on the taste of aquaponic vertical plants versus strictly aeroponic plants that are supplied with fresh water solution with minerals or whatever like Tower Garden

Can you tell me what media are you using inside the bamboo tower to provide nutrient to plants?

Hi John. What is your honest opinion? Is the future of food production going to be aquaponics or soil based growing? I have watched many of your videos and it seems like you prefer growing in soil.

There are tons of videos showing hydroponics, aquaponics etc. it's inspiring for sure. However, there isn't much to advise how to do a good commercial system. Can anyone suggest a site which can help me set up a small commercial system with components list and building procedure?
