@Cameron Hill You can see the paint quality off the bat - the 2017 Rs have orange peel from the factory- especially the black and SGP colors.
The engines are made in Ohio so both plants just plop them in the car on the line. Swindon was responsible for the hatchbacks and Type Rs so when you see the paint quality on them you'll immediately tell the difference between them and the FL5 finish.
The way you're feeling the FL5 is how I would feel about your FK8 coming from a FA1. 😅 You both have great cars all around.
I’m a fan of the FL5. If I was in the market though, I would wait for the Integra Type S. That thing is beautiful.
I personally wouldn’t buy a type R over MSRP with 500 miles on it especially knowing those are some hard pressed miles on the car without properly being broken in yet but that’s just how I feel. I’ll be more interested in seeing the Integra Type S this summer. As a former STi owner, I just can’t do those big wings anymore so the Type S will be more my style.

This car is really enticing. I have the funds and I'm starting a new job that will force me to drive to different job sites from time to time. But those markups really kill the mood and remind me that it's still just a fast civic.

I get the current times of dealer markup, which is asinine. But I too smirked a little when he said he purchased it technically used for thousands over MSRP. 50k for a used civic. I know it’s not a civic LX, I understand, but come on already.
Crystal Black Pearl #00711 here! It’s a lot of fun and it’s definitely a mix of FD2 and EK9 in terms of looks. The FK8 was an evolution of the the FK2 and FN2. I can guarantee that it is a very rigid ride on rougher roads. These roads you guys are on are beautiful for the FL5 in comparison. Enjoy it! This is as close to a 90s JDM feel with modern tech we’ll get!

It's funny how everyone trashes the FK8 for fake vents and the FL5 has functional aerodynamic vents yet in a straight line the FK8 is faster than the FL5 stock v stock
Why do you race a Type R in a straight line? FL5 has proven so many times to be faster on the track. If you're drag racing, then a Type R is not for you

I really liked the 10th gen R but the new one I'm having a hard time liking it. Plus mark ups I can't get behind it .....

I actually had two flat tires at once on my FK8 with the stock 20 inch wheels.
Posted before I was done…Ran over a football sized rock. Couldn’t wait to mount my 18 Titan 7 TS-5s…a lot more rubber padding and less weight. Buying the 20 inch donut spare from Honda is also a must!

Pearl Black looks the best on the FL5. This kid was like sure ill give you 5k over MSRP for a used FL5! 🥴 Cameron is a pretty cringe kid so I would expect a friend of his wouldn't make alot of good life choices. 😂
I think there are three key differences to switch from Fk8. 1: more premium interior 2: more conservative stylying 3: improved cooling. I think if you track your car its definitely worth the upgrade. But the other two reasons are subjective

augh i'm in the market for a new car.. i really like the FL5 but its hard to justify the price. in regards to the ride comfort, the FL5 does that thing where it'll "detect" spirited driving and raise the dampening, even if you're in comfort mode. so i think people are just locking the dampers into the soft setting

I believe a lot of the upgrades you’re experiencing are not from fk8 r to fl5 r but from one generation standard civic to another. This platform has been a major push to up the premium feel from the last gen. Of course adding type r upgrades not to mention every single exterior panels excluding front doors and roof adds up to price increase from the fk8. I am waiting on mine at msrp. Took me 60+ emails and calls to every dealerships around me but it is doable. Most likely I would get one after fl5 refresh

like the blue exterior color but red seats dont really match, honda should offer black seat option. dont like paying over msrp.
With the running car/door lock situation, it may be like my wife’s pilot lift gate, if it’s running you have to have the doors unlocked to get the life gate to open, tell the guy to unlock his doors and see if the hatch will open while it’s running
Not worth the upgrade when your Type R already has 10k in mods, just my opinion.
I had the FK2 and one thing it had which was better than the two later versions was the quad exhaust system it looked much better than the triple exhaust on the newer models

I already upgrade to this from a 2021 fk8 this car is better on gas and is smooth at 80 miles an hour my fk8 had a prl intake and the turbo noise thing but the fl5 is a better car is assemble in Japan thats a huge difference if you know Honda you know im right

If I were to pick between your fk8 and the fl5, I rather go with your fk8. It's more aggressive. The fl5 is too simple of a look. Of course that's just me. Yours look way better. That's why I got myself an 2023 Hyundai Elantra N 6 spd manual.

@@Camhill182 only if you were in cali lol the pops are insane yo. I love my EN. There's ups and downs about Hyundai on their vehicle warranty. What I've heard so far from EN owners is that they don't own up to what they say they'll cover for 10 years or 10k if the engine was to take a dump. Check engine on some EN models especially DCT. Owners was selling it because of that. I was iffy on getting it because of that but idk I liked it too much that I just hope I don't get any issues on mines. To this day, no issues yet. I baby it tbh lol although it's a performance car. 🤞 Other than that, yes, its a great car.

I think Honda knows that they have a dedicated fanbase for the Type R, so they know they can get away with making small changes. At this point its obvious that the Type R will sell no matter what
same chasis, same engine, different turbo and final drive. Only thing i like is the space in the engine bay, and he got it in the best color. Brandon is a great dude!

Ok so the side vents are there to relieve the normally high air pressure that gets built up in the front wheel well area which creates lift on the front end of the vehicle. Particularly important in this application as there are front air dams in the bumper which channels air from the front to cool the front brakes (it channels it behind the front wheels/brakes). So the side vents help maintain a steady flow of air into the front wheel well for cooling then expel it back out through the side vents. Interestingly what some people call "fake vents" on the sides of the front bumper, which the front black splitter flows into, are actually aero-kick-outs. The kick-outs send air around the front wheels/wheel wells in a smooth laminal flow, so that air doesn't get sucked into the wheel wells and interrupt the brake cooling flow from the front air dams, or increase air pressure in the wheel wells. So all the aero is designed to work together in tandem to keep the car stable, keep it cool, and keep the nose down. Also the front hood scoop is an air extractor, air that flows in through the front grill and goes through the radiator is then expelled out of the heat extractor, lowering the overall temperature in the engine bay by expelling hot air, and also not allowing high pressure build up which increases lift on the front end. So it helps cool the engine, and lowers pressure in the engine bay which decreases lift of the front end.

I miss my 9th gen Too. But I drove
My friends fk8 the other day with acuity shifter and it was extremely tight and nice feeling. Not that I dislike the shifter in the fl5 but that acuity sure was a nice upgrade. But I actually liked the way the clutch pedal felt and the way it shifts in the fk8 over my fl5. Not sure why that is, I figured that aspect would be very similar. My pedal feels lighter and and long travel and it’s hard to time the shifts into second but in the fk8 it was effortless.
The boost blue is beautiful and one of my favorite colors next to Sonic Grey Pearl
FK8 is still the head-turner.

I was an ‘18 Si owner and I loved that car. I wanted to get the FL5 so badly but the prices were crazy (and I wanted to stay a Honda boy). Ended up going to the dark side and getting an ‘18 Golf R. Honda will always be my first love, but my God I love my Golf R. 😅
I've driven an fl5 myself. I'll stick to my fk8. Same platform. Feels the same.
Also the sidewall of the tires on the FL5 is larger than on the stock FK8. I don't think the guy understands how tire sizing works. The 30 in 265/30 is the ratio of sidewall to tire width and not the actual measurement. Basically the size of the sidewall is a percentage of the overall tire width. So a 245/30 tire would have a sidewall of 73.5 mm (245 x 0.30), while a 265/30 would have a sidewall of 79.5 mm (265 x 0.30).

Personally I don’t like the new type R look, it just reminds me of a charger with a hatchback. I definitely will be getting the 10th gen though.
The fit and finish of a premium Japan build vs a FK8 built in England is the difference. Japan just builds everything with crazy precision. 🔥
You can put those same size tires on your FK8 Cameron. I had that size along with some Titan 7s thanks to Michael Baxi’s recommendation. No rubbing issues at all!
You can even do 275/35/18 since you have the same specs as me. 18x9.5 +45. No rubbing. 255 is too narrow imo
The brake calipers and rotors are the same as the refreshed FK8, however I believe they went with a different setup for the brake master cylinder. So they'll feel a bit different in application. They bite a bit sooner and quicker.
The FL5 brakes bite super quick. You could stop on a dime.
@@DynamiteDB Yeah...I remember when I first got in at the dealer to drive mine home, my foot wasn't used to the setup yet, and there were definitely more than a couple of brake check style starts and fits on the way home. 😅 Now that I've gotten used to it, I love how quick, responsive, and strong the brakes are.

I really think you should get one if you can let yourself give up the FK8. There’s not a lot of parts out for the FL5 yet but they are on their way and, selfishly, we need those CamH install videos for inspiration. 😅
12:22 to 12:50 I 100% agree with you…. It’s a great car, but 50k+ for a little over 300hp is a tough sell for many of us….
Just get a camaro ss and with full bolt ons on e85 tune you getting 580-650whp and faster then a zl1 camaro for the same price as a type r.
Also i really do like the corrola gr but yeah 50k for a corrola is way overpriced but im sure its super reliable and fun too drive.. i live in the south so i can sure use an awd car cause it rains a lot i need some traction...
I was thinking the new kia ev gt6 or whatever its called but idk if i can buy an electric car yet especially since it cant even go 200 miles on a single charge.. if i drive too Atlanta ga and back thats 120 miles from my house so am i gunna lose charge before i make it back.. it is a bad ass car though not gunna lie but just not practical the range is garbage on the battery and not enough charging stations for that vehicle to be a daily driver..

Just wait Cameron. Keep your FK8 and give it a couple of years for prices to come down. Remember…even if you decide to get one plus 10-15k in mods…think of the other turn key factory hot rods(new or used) in that price range(GTR,Vette,etc.)…that are a whole lot quicker. Just my two cents.

Pretty interesting and informative for anyone upgrading their brakes and the pitfalls that are out there. Good information no matter what car you drive!😁👍
Just sat in an FL5 at the dealership tonight Cameron. I now understand your reaction to the seats. They really are that much more grippy/huggy compared to the FK8 seats. I wasn’t expecting that. Dealer was off their rocker as usual…wanted 20k over sticker at first,then tried to assure me how much they trying to make a deal for me by ONLY asking 12,000 over MSRP PLUS…an extra 3,500 for low jack and ceramic coating. Two items that cost me approximately 1,800 a year before. They said prices just shot up for those!😂 Frigging Snakes!😁 Nice car. Just not 60k nice…
Simple answer. Stop pay the dealer markups. You can find deals. You may have to travel a bit, or wait. I got my new WRX for under MSRP, and I love this car. If you continue paying the dealer markups, they will keep raising the prices. Just stop!

It’s going to be much easier to get a type s at msrp compared to the fl5. Most Acura dealers near me doing sticker while at the same time you can’t get a fl5 for less than 10k over
With markups, I think the FL5 is out of my price range.

The price is the issue with these cars. As an FK8 owner I will agree with you that the FL5 is better but not worth the mark up. Insurance in the UK will not cover any mark up. If the car is totalled and that just means Dash air bags deployed, here in the UK you will only get the market value and that will be MSRP minus the age condition and mileage on the car. There's a saying in the UK that you lose £1000 the moment you drive off the forecourt. With current UK mark up that relates to £11000 to £15000. Not a risk I'm willing to take.
You can take out a back to invoice policy. That will cover the shortfall
I don't like the wing on the back. I used to have a car a long time ago that had one, and it made it a pain to hand wash the car. Is it hard to take them off if you don't want one?
Fk8 is faster in straight line, if you're into tracking then the fl5 is better....
I CAN NEVER LIKE THE FL5 NO MATTER WHAT, I TRIED TO LIKE THEM TRUST ME BUT I JUST COULDN'T LOL, STILL LOOKS REGULAR TRAFFIC TO ME AND LOOKS BORING IMHO SO... DEFINITELY NOT FOR ME. I LOVE THE AGGRESSIVENESS LOOK OF MY FK8 BETTER. Im sure the FL5 FEELS more premium but Its still not enough to convince me.. I had the 19 CW FK8 and now have the 21 BB FK8 and I LOOOVE IT EVEN MORE !!!

Everyone says the same thing until they see one in person. Some people hate to be seen inside an FK8. Looks are subjective my guy but FL5 is objectively a better car.

Nice car but the MSRP is $44K+ & $10K+ Markup (extortion) + dealer installed options...Honda knows that dealers are doing this and it does NOTHING to stop it . I left the brand and I am never going back...I can't believe that a Japanese company allows their dealerships to take advantage of consumers...shame on you Honda... I wonder what would Soichiro Honda and Takeo Fujisawa would think about destroying the reputation of their honorable company by using this type of extortion to take advantage of their loyal consumers...

The car feels more solid and more quality! Both amazing cars but the FL5 is my favorite for sure! I was fortunate to get mine at msrp so it made it possible for me!! Not hating, genuine question. Why are people paying over 60k for these FWD civic. I understand it's greatly engineered, cornering, overall driving etc etc sure. But 60k? Wait list for months? Don't get me wrong I loved my 06 civic si when I had it and I know it's a completely different beast but. Why not get an bmw M2 or ANYTHING that's near it's price that's better?

She said whats he talking about the Black car is so much better looking a.nd sexier.. 😂😂 Im sorry but I have to agree.. maybe the 5% in up grades changes things a bit, but it will never turn heads like the FK8. Its beautiful dont get me wrong but the same gut feeling I had when I first saw it still sticks.. boring..I can buy one tomorrow, but my love affair with my FK8 has just begun and I have mine 2 years. Dont need an instant gratification fix just to say, look what I got..and then regret it. Out with the old in with the new isn't always a good choice. Seemed like you were talking yourself out of your own car.
Having the Head Unit, up that high would ruin the driving experience for me. Like, I don't want a screen in my peripheral vision the entire time I'm driving. That's more distracting, than looking down another 8 inches to where the screens used to be FFS. ...and it's UGLY AF

I think the new 2023 Type r's put the older body style to shame! I'm actually looking to buy one in the next few months and hand over my Forte5SX to my son. Was looking into the Veloster N but after driving the two I'm on the Type R. That or perhaps the Corolla 4wd but they wont let you test drive them!

Awesome cam! The perfect Type R would be the exterior of the FK8 with the interior of the FL5, imo. I bought Griot’s Garage Interior Cleaner to clean the alcantara and it works wonders on the steering wheel and seats. 🔥
it's a matter of personal preference actually.. i for one dont like the fk8 ricer design.. this fl5 however is perfect for me..
Get yourself some Carpro Fabric 2.0. It'll add a protective coating to your seats, armrests, carpets etc. It's super hydrophobic, and resists stains and spills, while still letting the fabric breath. It'll also make it easier to clean. It's basically like a Ceramic coating except for Fabric.

I bought an FL5 a little over a month ago. Paid a 7k markup but got it in the exact color i wanted. I was very torn between the boost blue, sonic grey pearl and red prior to purchasing. ultimately decided on red as its the rarest color of the 5. boost blue and white are by FAR the most produced color on the FL5's and i didnt want that. This car is absolutely worth every penny. I would do it again in a heartbeat. Never selling this thing.

I like the traditional styling of the FL5. FK8 is too ricey for me. And for what these FL5s are going for, I’d rather have a 3.0 Supra.
