Took this delicious cake to my dad who was on hospice. He was really eating very little. He ate it with gusto and said it was the best cake he ever had and asked for a second helping. How happy that made me! He passed 2 days later and I will always remember him when I bake this multiple times in the years ahead. Incredibly moist.

My daughter, her husband and my 2 amazing Grandchildren went apple picking 2 weeks ago. They gifted me my own bag of apples and I made applesauce. Will be making this cake tomorrow, thank you John! It looks amazing.

A scale and it has been the best pro tip ever! I no longer have to wash or rinse and reuse measuring cups! You have to get a scale if you don’t have one.

Just what I needed since I made up so much applesauce in small jars, but ran out of them so had to use 3 huge jars for the remaining. From my own tree so dehydrated chips, bags of sliced apples with cinnamon and brown sugar in the freezer and so much apple sauce. Glad for the 2 cups to use in this cake. This must be the most perfect applesauce cake I have ever seen!

I make a cake similar to this quite often. I especially like it to take on picnics. It travels well, and I prefer it with no frosting. I had to cut back on the cinnamon though. It was the same amount as your cake, but my age has caused indigestion issues. LOL. I use a small amount of ginger and add ground cloves simply because they're my favorite. I skip nuts but add golden raisins. I will be trying this recipe soon! I'm enjoying your cookbook very much, and my Hubby has been well fed as a result.

I've decided to make these cakes for Christmas as part of my homemade food bundle. Food is too expensive these days so it's nice to save a bit of money.

72 Say, “Perhaps some of what you are impatient for has drawn near.”
73 Your Lord is gracious towards humanity, but most of them are not thankful.
74 And your Lord knows what their hearts conceal, and what they reveal.
75 There is no mystery in the heaven and the earth, but it is in a Clear Book.
76 This Quran relates to the Children of Israel most of what they differ about.
77 And it is guidance and mercy for the believers.
78 Your Lord will judge between them by His wisdom. He is the Almighty, the All-Knowing.
79 So rely on God. You are upon the clear truth.
80 You cannot make the dead hear, nor can you make the deaf hear the call if they turn their backs and flee.
81 Nor can you guide the blind out of their straying. You can make no one listen, except those who believe in Our verses; for they are Muslims.
82 And when the Word has fallen on them, We will bring out for them from the earth a creature which will say to them that the people are uncertain of Our revelations.
83 On the Day when We gather from every community a group of those who rejected Our revelations; and they will be restrained.
84 Until, when they arrive, He will say, “Did you reject My revelations without comprehending them? Or what is it you were doing?”
85 The Word will come down upon them for their wrongdoing, and they will not speak.
86 Do they not see that We made the night for them to rest therein, and the day for visibility? Surely in that are signs for people who believe.
87 On the Day when the Trumpet is blown, everyone in the heavens and the earth will be horrified, except whomever God wills; and everyone will come before Him in humility.
88 And you see the mountains, and imagine them fixed, yet they pass, as the passing of the clouds-the making of God, who has perfected everything. He is fully Informed of what you do.
89 Whoever brings a virtue will receive better than it-and they will be safe from the horrors of that Day.
90 But whoever brings evil-their faces will be tumbled into the Fire. Will you be rewarded except for what you used to do?
91 “I was commanded to worship the Lord of this town, who has sanctified it, and to Whom everything belongs; and I was commanded to be of those who submit.
92 And to recite the Quran.” Whoever is guided-is guided to his own advantage. And whoever goes astray, then say, “I am one of the warners.”
93 And say, “Praise belongs to God; He will show you His signs, and you will recognize them. Your Lord is not heedless of what you do.”
222 And they ask you about menstruation: say, “It is harmful, so keep away from women during menstruation. And do not approach them until they have become pure. Once they have become pure, approach them in the way God has directed you.” God loves the repentant, and He loves those who keep clean.”

I made this! I couldn't use a 9x13 so I used two 9in round pans and distributed the batter evenly between the two. I would say the baking time is about 30 minutes at 350F for me. The cake is delicious. My husband loves it as do I. You have the best recipes ever. I was just telling my husband I have to buy the Preppy Kitchen cookbook!! lol it is quite sweet though so I think next time I will decrease the sugar contents a bit but that's just me!
Try using unsweetened applesauce instead! Commercial applesauce is loaded with extra sugar, but unsweetened is just the apples.

But I love cake. This looks wonderful! You might try a sugar bear. It’s a little terra cotta bear that is soaked in water and sealed in the jar with the brown sugar. I love mine! 🐻
John the chocolate butter cream was so light and fluffy, but it was sickly sweet. Which frosting is the least sweet but is still good for decorating.
