Half of the point is to be rewarded with using ur close ranged hori swing in calculated ways so when it just....didnt work properly 20% of the time it sucked hard. Rollers big problem is inconsistency and not being able to close the gap with long range shooters. I die too many times when I'm in range due to inconsistent 1shots or I'm still in the winding up frames. The narrow map design also makes it hard to close the gap between the other team if your teammates don't paint. That's just imo

    In my opinion all vertical flicks should be a two shot minimum, they're harder to hit than most things in the game at range, and given how slow they are it's justified. Long range shooters like 96 and jet would still have faster kill time than everything except carbon and swig. But given the short range of carbon and small hitbox of swig it would be a lot more fair.

    • @helion2018
      @helion2018 6 месяцев назад

      He is speaking from a competitive perspective and if you assume high level play then these flicks just ain't gonna miss. I get the whole "Hard work should be rewarded" thing, but it will harm competitive play if one weapon class is just objectively better than another.

    • @kirbyofthestars2269
      @kirbyofthestars2269 6 месяцев назад +8

      @@helion2018The kill time and distance from a (somewhat) similar class, the splatanas, will still outpace the rollers with this buff. A stamper would easily be able to combo a roller to death before the second swing. They can hit above ledges, can one shot, and have consistent ink-trails.
      The DPS and kill times for most weapons would be faster still. But in the context of S3 level design in particular, I would say the 50 damage would help during forces encounters, as there are little to no flank routes.
      The weapon class is designed for stealth and getting a one-shot. Unfortunately, the game doesn't support that well.

    I feel like rollers and brushes are some of the most inconsistent classes in this game and are falling off due to more consistent classes like sloshers and splatanas taking their niche. I really want to see a animation/mechanic change to rollers where holding ZR puts you in roll mode first and releasing performs a underhand flick upwards. Hitbox, wind up time, and damage can all stay the same.This would allow Rollers to start rolling for mobility or the crushing hitbox faster without losing the speed or utility of flicking.
    If you did the same change for Brushes, think of how much better Painbrush would be if you could roll then flick, rather than wait 23 frames flick and then gain your mobility. I also believe this would help rollers and brushes slightly by painting their feet when you start the flick since they will have a really short time on the ground to paint in front of them before the flick comes out.
    I feel this is a really cool idea and I'm not sure if I'm explaining it properly with just 1 comment. Please ask me questions in the replies and I will try to explain better.

Unfortunately, because of its nature, I think it's always going to be at a bit of a disadvantage. The recent wail buff was very nice though and I can't complain too much about where it is rn. • @JamUsagi

    As a former Inkbrush main, I think there’s one simple change that could REALLY help Rollers and Brushes out: The ability to hold L to roll without flicking, for a reduced/removed startup time.
    SO many times when I was splatted playing Inkbrush, it was because I was forced to flick before I could roll - it stalls your momentum on a class that’s supposed to be defined by its mobility, often making it slower than a lot of Shooters in practice. Letting you skip the startup time imo would have a huge effect to its speed over the course of a game.
    (As a side-note, this could also allow you to hold ZR to continuously flick instead of having to spam it, which by itself would make me want to go back to Inkbrush. My fingers are stiff, damnit)

    • @sevirakalau2171

      this, painbrush would be a lot more bearable if you could for example for all brush and roller classes have this as an option "If swimming and you hold L you start off rolling" this would make it a LITTLE slower to come out of ink aggressively but its just changing it so you have to let go of swim before flicking

    As an Octobrush enjoyer it’s been kind of crazy seeing it get pushed aside so easily, I feel like Splatanas are better slayers, and now the Paintbrush has way more range than it which was one of the few reasons to pick it over Inkbrush. Tbh I’d be happy if they just leaned into it being the fighter of the brush class by giving it more consistent damage

    • @babywizard9027
      @babywizard9027 6 месяцев назад +5

      I kind of wish they would completely lean into this style and rework it.
      Heres my idea for a reworked Octobrush:
      Basically, it now deals damage like a roller, instead of dealing the same damage for the whole hitbox, now the center of the attack deals more damage, but the sides do less.
      For example, now the sides would deal a maximum of 35 damage, so its almost always a 4 shot, but the center now deals up to 50 damage at melee range, making it a very reliable 3 shot, or even a 2 shot if you land 2 max damage hits.
      These changes would allow Octobrush to be much better at getting quick kills, and would also make it require you to aim at least a little bit, so casuals can stop whining about it being "no skill".

    • @Squirtle128

    I think one thing they could do for the painbrush is give a wind up cooldown, so basically every time it flicks or rolls, at the end a timer starts to where if you flick within that time frame it cancels the wind up. Basically making it so that it can do long fights better and its roll becomes more useful to keep up the pressure

One thing I wanna say is that people don’t seem to understand the difference between competitive and casual. If you are NOT PLAYING IN TORNAMENTS, YOUR A CASUAL. JUST CAUSE YOU PLAY THE RANKED GAME MODES DOESNT MEAN YOUR A COMPETITIVE PLAYER. So many weapons just get overshadowed or left in the dust because there not good in comps even though there fine in solo que

      I'd make all rollers have same top rolling speed as Carbon, just a bit shy of Octobrush's roll speed, with gradual acceleration curve to that speed. Carbon remains as it is, getting to top speed almost immediately, Flingza and Splat will take a second to get there, and Dynamo will spend 1.5 seconds. To compensate the inking, Carbon will start with narrow trail it has now and widen to same width as Dynamo after 1.5 seconds, and the midweights will follow same trend.
      Big Swig is exempt from these changes and retains the speed it has now, though with gradual speed increase too. The acceleration curve will be a buff to it.

      Rollers have always had a problem with breaking objects, but what if the roll had a 3x damage multiplier on all objects? That could give it a good reason to be used.

    ROLLER CLASS CHANGE: Vertical flick is activated by holding ZR instead of jumping. This will allow a roller to choose the right attack for the situation more easily, as well as allow more effective horizontals out of a squid roll. This also allows Dynamo to bypass the horrible vertical out of things like squid surge.
    I also think that while it may seem overtuned, roller verticals should be a minimum of 50. A roller is exposed, often for a very long time, while doing a vertical. Being able to be killed by most weapons, especially shooters, during one vertical but it can take three swings to kill, is too slow paced. But, the damage buff isn't necessarily about speed, it is more of a compromise with level design.
    Rollers are severely impacted not just by being power crept, but also by the map design. Splatoon 3's hallways, as we all know, have not been kind to flanking or stealthy playstyles. There are many times where one is forced to engage, with little cover, and no alternative routes. This damage buff will help bridge the gap in scenarios where positioning is forced by design upon the player, and helping to level the playing field.

    As the resident Big Swig One-trick, you're spot on with the hurtbox on the vertical flick. Hitting moving targets is absurdly difficult for the value. I'm not too upset by the lack of a one-shot horizontal since if I'm close enough to land a hit, I can usually just take a step forward and run them over.
    A problem that I don't think is discussed enough is how map geometry will occasionally eat your horizontal flicks due to the way the projectiles are formed. Horizontal flicks against the tower will be deleted by the pole in the center. Hitting enemies that are up against walls can be pretty inconsistent. For a weapon that has to hit enemies multiple times to splat, this can be pretty frustrating.

    I find it a bit funny how none of the roller changes relate to the actual rolling. In my opinion as a casual player and competitive viewer since Splatoon 1, the real problem with rollers is that their main mode, the rolling, is just not competitively viable, and 'fixing' the class will come from changing that. The flicks are often kinda weak since they're not supposed to be the point of the weapon, otherwise they basically just turn into a very funky shooter. But also don't ask me how to make the roll itself actually useful lol, I've got no ideas.

    I will say as a carbon player it’s super annoying that the flingza is so close in speed with the horizontal flick. I’m not saying it’s necessarily a flaw with the game bc I’m not educated enough in balancing weapons, but it sucks going up against a weapon that has better range than you and then even if you get up close to do a quick kill it has a very easy option to get a trade. Like you can only get it by VERY carefully sharking and it’s not safe to try and get it on a ledge bc you’ll probably get traded. And idk I think carbon shouldn’t have an easy time getting most long ranges but i feel flingza gets a really good horizontal flick for how short it is.

    i think unfortunately big swig will go without any major changes like the ones being suggested in the video, at the very least i hope theyd make the vertical easier to hit by either increasing the velocity of the ink flung or just giving it a wider hitbox - but i dont think that is going to happen given the very reluctant and non-effective changes we've seen to it so far that have tapered off in the updates following its release. the reason i think theyre so reluctant to buff it is because of how little delay the horizontal/vertical flicks are and how well they paint, same kind of reasoning with why they havent adjusted inkbrush in salmon run (because of its rolling speed) when its easily the worst weapon there - they love giving weapons individually great attributes but are scared of making them good overall. and its frustrating.
    express has a lot of potential that is locked behind a weak special and a sub it cant combo with and assuming the main and special see some changes that make them more useful its for sure going to be a weapon ill pick up again cause right now its abysmal to use. a few moments of fun that are locked behind fighting for your life with a roller that cant hit its verticals reliably

    I get that people got tired of the tenta missile spam, but the Flingza needs to have it reset to 180p to bring it inline with the Splatana wiper deco. I switch between the two and it feels like my wiper fills up in half the time. I find that I play better with the "not gun" weapons, and the Flingza was the first one I got really good at. I'd really like to see it become more viable again. Alternatively, a Foil Flingza with a different kit - say the suction bomb from Splat 2 and maybe a tacticooler (I really want ink storm or super chump, but thought that might be greedy) could be a nice second kit.
    For context: I really only play Turf War and Salmon Run: I'm bad with FPS games and older than the intended playerbase, so I have anxiety about trying ranked. I also think the regular inkbrush is really strong, but the neuveau kit is weaksauce. I like to pair regular with ninja squid, stealth jump, swim speed up, and ink resist. Shark around and murk unsuspecting inklings.

    Personally I think swig having a smaller vert hit box is intentional and honestly acceptable, othersise it would kind of outclass carbon a bit too much imo. They tradeoff is that it has insane range, great paint and a fast flick speed. It has great niches as a paint supporting roller and has amazing object damage, so if the vert requires s bit more skill to land that's just something to master. I think the buffs they gave it post introduction are perfect and honestly it doesnt need much more otherwise it would be way too efficient at everything. Even the hori not being a ko doesnt matter too much, since with its speed and the paint it provides, you can likely get the second hit in anyways. Plus it combos very well with rain

    To be honest I'd like a curling bomb buff. Splat rollers launch kit is perfect. And Curling bomb as an effective bomb for poking is SO CLOSE.
    The bomb has a lot of depth to it, and I'd say I use it in quite inventive ways for movement, offensive and defence.
    The explosion randius minimum on an un-charged curling bomb is very very poor. And the hit box for the full damage is inconsistent, until you get to around 90% charge. Where it becomes like a regular bomb consistency.
    I'd like these changes
    • The minimum explosion radius from 0-20% charge is increased
    • Maximum damage of outer explosion radius starts scaling higher past 20%
    • Explosion full damage radius increased by 5% (Scaling faster)
    • Damage from being hit by the curling bomb increase from 20-35
    I'm very happy with defualt roller. And Curling bomb has always shown me it's potential as potentially an INSANELY versitile setplay tool/trap.
    I'm not wanting it to be a splat bomb, I want to be rewarded for snipes and traps, and being to follow up 35 hits with swings while also using the higher minimum explosion radius to create more situations that give favourable combo damage that gives the roller player the blood in the water effect from fast mid ranged options like splattershots.
    Plus I want more curling bomb trickshot clips XD

  • @Dr_Nig
    @Dr_Nig 6 месяцев назад

    What if vertical flick worked a bit like chargers? I mean, you could add a "tap" variant of the flick that could be faster but dealing less damage and keep the current flick as a "held" variant. This way rollers could also poke enemies in a safer way and have a chance to kill already weakened ones more efficiently. The only roller I wouldn't give this would be Carbon, as it's already fast as it is.
    About Dynamo, since it's the slowest and the most powerful, the vertical flick could also change in a way similar to Explosher maybe?: with a closer and narrower sourspot and a widened long range sweetspot. Like a "blaster" roller. Damage is unchanged.
    If you want to buff Painbrush then I think you should diminish the swing ink consumption reduction it had in 4.1 from 25% to 20%: it would still have enough range to to challenge other mid-to-close range weapons and the increased minimum would allow to do it even better so a bit more ink consumption seems the good trade off.

  • @shaba22
    @shaba22 6 месяцев назад

    Things I'd like to see on rollers as a Flingza main:
    - run speed up applies to rollers while rolling
    - nerf white ink frames
    - massive object damage while rolling
    - 25% buff to paint width while rolling for all rollers
    - horizontal flick consistency buff
    My way-out-there idea: while rolling, you can tank damage from the front but it drains your ink tank. When you run out of ink you have no more shield, or mobility, or fighting power aside from the trail you left, so I think this is a pretty fair idea as an alternative to a brella for entry. I mostly just want to see the roller be used as a ROLLER for the sake of pure variety in play styles. A dynamo being able to one or two shot a crab or wave while rolling would be so satisfying (Flingza and splat roller probably a 2 and swig/carbon 3+)

    • @celestialspark5697

      IMO stringers are absolutely the worst class now and it's not even particularly close. A really good tri-stringer player might scare me that they will randomly one-shot me once or twice in a game and will otherwise annoy me a bit. A really good charger player will pop my entire team repeatedly, make me play in cover the entire game, and constantly catch my off-guard with suddenly popping up with a stored charge or off-angle shot. As Kyo put it, it's really telling when tri-stringer clips are all of getting exactly one splat like it's a big deal. Reef-lux is a bit more useful because it's a paint bot that can theoretically kill someone better than a Jr. or Aerospray, but it's still questionable if this is worth a slot outside of turf war (it does get picked a lot in Koshien though).
      Brushes aren't in the best spot, but Inkbrush and Octo Nouveau at least have some use cases. Rollers require a specific team comp, but a few are absolutely playable. Blasters have several viable options; I would say there are use cases for every blaster except vanilla Rapid right now, even if they're kind of middling performance-wise, because there isn't a dominant AoE option that crowds them out. Tent carries the brella class really hard, but brellas at least have a certain role and some matchups where they do pretty well.

    1:06 I think the Carbons specifically, should get the Jr.'s ink capacity. As one of the weaknesses of the Roller class is that the damage is weakned with less ink you have in your tank. A higher capacity could mean it will deal it's max damage a bit longer, or makes it's splats more consistent. As for the Deco's Burst Bombs, the only reason it was nerfed was because of Splash, and it wasn't fair that the Carbon recieved this nerf because of a Shooter. So, a higher capacity would bring it back to what it was pre Burst Bomb nerf.
    As for the V Carbon, it would definantly change it's play style, focussing on displacement with Autobombs. As well as Zipcaster lasting longer. In addition, I think Rollers in general should deal 105 damage when rolling or flicking, the latter of which only applies when the roller itself makes contact with a player, with a percentage of ink higher than 0%. There are moments where I literally smack players on top of there heads, but because it was slightty off center, it doesn't register as a splat. Furthermore, Rollers should 1 shot any object when either rolling, or flicking (Rules regarding the 105 damage apply to the 1 shot on objects.), to give the class a little niche.
