To be honest the answer for me is very much clearer and it's the undercover. They're both garbage but the undercover has a bit more health if I'm not mistaken and still you are protected from damage constantly if the shield is open you press the fire button once and hold it for at least half a a second and that canopy is gone on the recycled brella. So yeah the contest really is going to be tight for those two but I would still give the itch to the undercover
I think what also is unfortunate about Nova is that it never actually got the promised gimmick of “you can shoot while keeping the same shot deviation the whole time” but instead is actually the fastest shooter to get to its minimum accuracy. Although what’s cool is that it has the fastest accuracy recovery out of any shooter which I think is very neat and kinda makes up for it even a little :)
Unfortunately it also has the worst starting accuracy of any shooter (being a 10% chance to miss your first shot), so even recovering accuracy faster doesn't help it much. By comparison, splattershot pro starts at a 1% chance to miss, 52 gal starts at 2%, 96 at 4%, and even aerospray beats it at only a 6% chance to miss your first shot.
I think Dualie Squelchers vs Brella could be interesting as both are skirmisher weapons that want to take attention from the enemies to get it’s team in.
If Big Swig had a third kit, they should call it Diet Big Swig or Big Swig Zero Sugar. Its kits should be Fizzy/Cooler or Torp/Missiles (all drink based. Yes, Torp is based off a single use soy sauce packet)
anaki nova is just a disguise youre actually playing inkjet lol fr tho ever since i accepted that nova just isnt gonna kill anyone i started focusing on inkjet and inkmine and ive gotten some surprisingly good results, kits do matter
That’s exactly what I discovered when I first picked it up. It made me realize that inkjet can be the best special if you account for the projectile speed well enough. Then i started to use every other weapon with it.
I've said it once, I'll say it again. Nova being a long aerospray instead of a shooter/splatling splice weapon absolutely left it stranded in the middle of nowhere. It's the fact that it took the spot of some other idea that just has me baffled, but it happens.
nova is an unconventional support playstyle but im glad it exists! it fills a niche i adore personally. not a great weapon but a really fun one when you take the time to understand it :3 great video!
I think I've come up with the perfect buff for Nova: Give Nova the maxed out Hero Shot firing pattern, in exchange for a decent paint nerf. Primarily it fires with very good accuracy, to make up for its poor damage, but it occasionally sprays out a shot to the left or right very far off course, allowing for it to still function a bit like old Nova in that it covers a thin but long range area with strong paint support. On top of that, give it 0 accuracy decay, just like the original NoA tweet that announced it said it would have. This would give it the destinction from Aerospray, as a slightly worse painting weapon with middling damage, but one of the best dual-purpose shot patterns in the game.
As someone who used Nova competitively (top 200) the key is to take full advantage of the range. Instead of rushing people, shooting while backing up, keeping your distance, and running a ton of run speed is key to getting good at this weapon
I also run Run speed on nova, do you advise a lot of IA also? What do you think is the best version for Splat Zone and Tower Control? (I prefer vNova so far)
The competition of the good at painting bad at fighting weapons, and shockingly, when you give one of them more to do than just paint and not fight, it's usually the better and more fun of the two.
Using the Animal Crossing New Year's countdown music on the video releasing on New Year's Eve is such a good idea (And also just a great music choice, Animal Crossing music is amazing)
great video, one tricking swig has murdered me but seeing appreciation for it makes it worth it. also feel like you couldve mentioned the sheer object damage on swig just for funsies 🥺
I must be alone in my love for the vanilla nova. I hate ninja squids so it’s ink efficient sensors make me happy. It’s got the ink efficiency of like a Jr., the range of a pro. I do wish it had better damage but with a decent team enemies are constantly tracked and paired with thermal ink and chip damage no one can hide.
You should gear freedom as a category. I know you talked about it during the special portion, but it's significant enough, especially in competitive to be its own category.
I'm a nova enthuasiast but yeah, there's a good bunch of areas it really lacks in. A lot of the game seems to revolve around fighting way more than Splatoon 2, and you can't be very aggressive when you're using it. Hoping it'll get buffed in the right way sometime in the future!
I'm a Nova fan too. I like just sticking around and being annoying with farming Killer Wails, but it really does stink when so many shots miss even at close range.
I've got 5 stars on both these weapons lol Big Swig is super underrated. The main weapon is actually crazy good, but it's hard to play and the kits are bad so it's still a secret to most of the Splatoon community. One comparison not in this video is object damage, which Big Swig wins by a mile (I swear, if I shoot something with Nova it gains HP lol). Also apparently a secret to Splatoon players? I still get free kills on booyah bombers who don't seem to realize they can't hold their booyahs against me.
I would love to see one of these comparison videos focusing on Wiper Deco, and talking about some of the upsides of the kit and playstyle that it brings. Sure, maybe it's difficult to work with, especially the higher you go in competitive, but it's better than many people give it credit for. I think a lot of players just think of it as "the worst Splatana" and never consider its potential beyond that. It's the only kit I've gotten five stars with, and there's a good reason for that. It's actually very capable in the hands of a player with the mindset and ability to keep up with it. I don't have any suggestions for another category of weapon to compare against, though.
I think Big Swig is one of the best main weapons in the game, honestly, but it's so agonizing to play when this absolutely is not the "main weapons" game. Outside of being an Ink Storm and chip damage machine, I always find myself in those situations of "swinging the roller right now isn't gonna be very helpful... oh, right, in these moments, I use my sub weapon!" and then i throw out a dart and nothing happens
The splatoon stronghold academy sounds like something right up my alley but I really don’t have a good way to communicate with a team :/ (it’s been my main reason to keep putting of comp team play and focus on solo que)
