Tomorrowland really needs some catching up to do. Like jetson futurism and environmental futurism
I think they need to make a new Tomorrowland, and rename the current one Yesterday's Tomorrow. Or have them be different parts of the same land, passing through Yesterday's Tomorrow to the updated section.
Turn Autopia into Pod Racing from Star Wars
I remember opening the current autopia and learning from managment how much money chevron put into it. At full capacity, the attraction required a huge operation staff, plus there were the mechanics, plus chevron was providing the gas, plus disney has to pay a significant EPA fine annually as the cars do not meet standards based on their expected operation.
It's about time they electrify!
Fun fact, because chevron dumped money into it, the bottom floor of show/queue building had a luxury suite with gold plated everything!
Who cares! It’s Disney they charge $40 for parking they can Fing afford the upkeep ofONE OF THE LAST OG rides….like come on. Money is NOT an issue they are just lazy and greedy now :( sad
Great Video! I welcome the fumes to vanish, but the attraction must exist. When my sons were little, it was their main attraction. Kids love to drive!
Sacrifice Autopia for a new land.
excited to not have to hold my breath walking past that part of the park
Love the idea of Autopia going in/around a new Tomorrowland using the futurist Honda Zero. I can for sure see Autopia turning south at the demoed Launch Bay. Would be awesome if they use the Honda Zero along with Tron Inspired smaller canopy and lighting. It would work with the Zero design.
For an example of Electric Autotopia with Honda sponsorship, just take a look at Disneyland Hong Kong…
I really hope this the first of many announcements for updating Tomorrowland. I would love to see them expand on the electric cars and put in a self charging course As you drive the course it recharges the car give us hopefully a look into our future. And bring back to the true meaning of Tomorrowland.
Brickey is so informed! Disneyland. Tomorrowland. Autopia. Honda. Nissan. He knows it all. Thanks for doing your homework and giving us another great video! (P.S. I like the way Brickey says, "Cube.")
Technically that current Autopia footprint is home to 3 active attractions and 2 defunct ones.
Active: Autopia, Monorail, and Subs (show building is under the spaghetti bowl mess)
Defunct: Motor Boat Cruise, Peoplemover/Rocket Rods
Also defunct: the Flying Saucers!
I’ve been on Team Rip it Out for years, but I have to say the idea with Honda Zero seems compelling. I just don’t want Avatar to be shoehorned into Tomorrowland.
I know Wall E is Pixar but it's so much Tomorrowland.. they need to incorporate Wall E into the land some how. I think the old people might would be a potential spot for a wall e ride. Plus it would cost more to demolish old attraction to out in New one. Evolve the old rides and build around that
Many memories visiting as child in 90s
Another Banger of a video... Here's a Blue Sky money is No Object because Honda is paying for it idea... keep a small portion of the original autopia track but find a way to connect it up to the old rocket rods / people mover track... driving today and driving into the future... maybe that's what Scott Trowbridge was referencing in his tweet way back when...
I think Autopia forms part of Disneyland pedigree and should be preserved. Electric vehicles were an inevitable compromise to keep this attraction. IF there wasn't the massive plans of Disneyland Forward, then I would make the argument the use of this parcel of land would need re-thinking, however as there are alternative expansion plans which are looking like they'll be approved in some form, I am all for the renovation and protection of Autopia.
edit: I will say however that the clanging sound of the engines will be missed!
Im still praying for a new Journey Into Imagination somewhere here, somewhere next to A Small World could fit.
They’d have to fix the other one first before ever considering another clone
To answer your question (before watching this whole thing) yes! This was one of my childhood favorites and it's one of my kid's favorites now.
Ok, now that I've seen the whole video, I see your points. I almost wish Disney would finish HM & Tiana's and then focus on Tomorrowland. I'm curious to think what Walt would think of what's happened to Tomorrowland. Maybe you could share your view on what he might lean towards since you have the creative career background and are (luckily) in the park frequently (not jealous at all lol).
I think the Avatar announcement was a play to get Honda to commit to a redo of Autopia. And as you mentioned, it works for Honda, because they can promote their new EVs.
Of Avatar comes to Disneyland Resort, probably will be the 3rd gate you mentioned before at the Toy Story Parking Lot.
That aside, I’m just encouraged that all this speculation gives us great Hey Brickey videos!!
Thanks for the update! ❤Not sure about Autopia but now I for sure want an EV 😊🚙
Love Autopia, on my last ride a couple yrs ago I was just blown away how expansive and beautiful it was. No cars near me, no kids, no IP (!) just me and the open road for blissful minutes. Whatever happens, I’ll always remember that particular ride. Yes, rode it as a kid, have all the nostalgia, but obvs things change, and they have. So, yes, electric cars should have happened years ago, and also I hope they can fix a lot without taking all the Autopia space. I have hope. Agree Tomorrowland has been a mess for a long time, and something needs to change…
The problem with taking Autopia fully electric is the always-running requirement of the cars. They can't park and charge for 20 minutes, so they're going to need a battery swap system. Finding a corporate sponsor like Tesla or Honda to fund that might be a challenge, because that's no longer a technology they're showcasing or fully focused on. So, we'll see. I think it's more likely that they retrofit the Autopia cars with electric-hybrid engines.
Maybe the roads will charge the cars?
@@lovelo8780 I think electrified rail could work as long as it's low voltage to make it safe to touch. Another tech on the horizon is induction coils under the road that charge cars wirelessly, but I think that's being working on mostly by startups and grant-funded projects. Finding a partner to showcase their technology (whatever that technology ends up being) is probably the only way Disney will justify the cost of modifying the ride. The latest version of Autopia was sponsored by Chevron. They need a partner at least that big to justify major changes.
Definitely possible with modern batteries and large capacitors. The Rollercoasters with sound don't use batteries, but giant quick charge capacitors.
@brianstone6463 , induction coils are possible. The Jolly Trolly used induction coils with technology available in 1993!
HK Disneyland has electric cars. The cars don't use that much power, and they can rotate lanes in and out if they need to charge. We already don't see them using all the lanes at the same time.
Asking the big questions! I’m all for nostalgia but this ride doesn’t tick any boxes for me and takes up a load of space.
So many better options… even a test track style update that uses a show building to save space. Add outdoor kinetic energy, get that big energy money and more land.
Blue sky!
What a great video. Not gonna lie, those new Nissans look incredible. All those future books i used to read back in the early 80's about cars are starting to finally materialize, as far as the aesthetic goes.
I feel like if they go electric, they should go ahead and reimagine the entire ride. I’m not saying go Tron, but give it that Tron esthetic with the blue/orange neon. Idk, it’s way above my pay grade, just an idea. Also, the current cars aren’t very ADA, which it seems as though they are trying to be more compliant with, it would just be nice if a wheelchair user could not only get into the ride vehicle easier, but also be able to control it.
Another great possibility with Honda being a sponsor/partner at Disneyland is that THEY ALSO MAKE AMAZING ROBOTS! Love your content. So glad RUclips pushed it to me. They know I’m “[your] kind of psycho” based on all my recent Disneyland video watching, long-term love of Defunctland and Expedition Theme Park vids!
Hey Brickey! Is Club 1313 still a thing? I want to join but checked out the podcast on Spotify and the Insta but I hadn’t seen anything from this year. Thanks!
@@kylokev Yes Club 1313 is still a thing since I’m still in it
@@JesseAdventure Thanks for letting me know! 😁
….or Not. It could be a new kind of People Mover…without using any land. Electric cars have no emissions, so can operate inside, as they do in Vegas.
LOVE your mind Brick. Thanks.
I don't think they will ever get rid of autopia. It's complicated and expensive but a classic with a huge footprint. It will get updated. They should definitely add some tunnels or something. Lol
Take Autopia and put it on the people mover track and show case various form of alternative energy throughout the ride and use the land it sits in now for more attractions.
Reopen Starcade that features Disney games that can be played and purchased.
Reopen the theatre for sneak peaks and bts of all their new movies and tv shows for Disneyland guests only.
Change Nemo to “Journey to Europa” and undersea adventure exploring the moon Europa
Carousel of progress should turn into a “Worlds Fair” style showcase with tons of corporate sponsors and a 64 worlds fair style theme.
I could go on and on to what can be done with Tomorrowland.
What all too many folks want
Autopia-Hypercharged!
A ride with 7 inversions that is driven by the rider! Lol
Thank you for yet another deep dive into the far reaches of the parks Brickey! I’ve thought about a lot of scenarios that you posed in the video. With any of it, the Monorail track has to be addressed, but I’ve thought of a scenario where the western part of Autopia’s track is removed and it gets a new layout with new cars. The old motorboat cruise area and the area in front of the Small World show building becomes Pandora and it allows the rest of Tomorrowland to be redeveloped/updated separately. If they remove Autopia altogether, it frees up even more area for Pandora and/or Tomorrowland redevelopment. Just my Blue Sky two cents. Thanks again!
At a basic level they could do hot swap batteries like you see on the electric bikes and that would be pretty quick and easy. You might even be able to phase them in a few at a time but I would like to see something more imaginative in this place.
Building something more like what is proposed for Test Track in Epcot would be awesome and a lot smaller footprint.
While I "might" miss the rattle of those gas powered motors 📢I will definitely enjoy the peace and quite of Autopia being electrified. It will create another quite corner of the park were you can get away and just chill.
I pass on Autopia, drive 8 hours from AZ, the last thing I want to do is drive at DL
Hey Brickey, any word on the Fantasmic reopening? It's supposed to come back next month and NO ONE is talking about it. Thanks buddy, you da man! 😂
I dislike Autopia, but if it is going to remain then electrifying is the only sensible option. The stench, noise and exhaust fumes keep us away from that corner of the park. It looks like the images and video released by Honda are for concept cars -- production models seldom look anything like these and we're more likely to see just more of the same for what they release to the market.
“Uh you said 2020” lmao 🤣 You adding a quick clip of you mocking someone correcting you had me weak bruh! But the attraction is long overdue for an upgrade but I think they have to move towards vehicles that would showcase vehicle amenities and interior/exterior lighting effects. Basically enclosing them now and maybe incorporating an autopilot mode for the driver as an option. It would possibly also allow the attraction to stay running in some rainy weather conditions 🤷🏾♂️
It's been a while since I've been to a Disney Park, but I'm surprised Autopia isn't electric already. It's on a guide track so there's the power contact point.
Great breakdown, I think tomorrow land needs a flying car Autopia. But EV would be fun too.
Those new Honda electric cars look awesome! Totally agree with you, Honda seems to be setting itself up for the future by funding Autopia for the next decade. Here's hoping this Autopia upgrade might even be part of a new Tomorrowland revamp!
I'm all in for electric Autopia! But I'm with you, I dint want it holding back a Tomorrowland upgrade. But maybe electric cars is step 1, and they have plans to update the track layout and design to go with it over the next decade. The future is looking brighter 😎!
I was thinking they’d would go hydrogen
Tear out and redo Tomorrowland only the area from Space Mountain to the Submarine ride ( all the white buildings area ), but keep the rest…..Autopia, Monorail, Matterhorn, and the Submarines !!
5:25 it's Tomorrowland, right? Not Yesterdayland? Those cars should be fully electric already. If it's Tomorrowland, make the cars look futuristic. Make the cars a bit faster. Kids can tell the difference between old tech and new. As a Tesla owner, I know that kids in the neighborhood KNOW what electric is and love it. 👍
My first reaction to this news was, "Oh, good. They're planning to keep Autopia."
I wouldn’t be mad if I got rid of Autopia but I do like the idea doing a Honda zero theme I think what they should do if they do that route is have it like a outdoor Tron theme but with outdoor nature I think it’s time for Disney to start pushing about the environment where we need to start keeping our trash in the car and stop throwing out the window put your trash in the garbage can like an adult And recycle like an adult!!! Also, if they do keep this attraction, please make it tall people friendly
Honda has developed an electric version of the gas motors currently in the Autopia cars. Feature their new electric GX motors with their new EV body style? I give it better than even odds. Add a new sci fi cityscape instead of the old mid century highway styling I think you can an attraction that can last another generation
I’ve recently brought a hybrid car for my birthday and I love it.
Autopia needs to go for future development. However if the cars are incorporated into a new tomorrow land I might give it a pass. Maybe. Nah. Demolish it. 😂
Shout out to the Nissan Cube! 😆
Love this piece Brickey. I'm with you. For the park to move forward it needs to let go of some of its past. Here's my crazy idea... Turn Tomorrowland into another Star Wars Inspired location. Create a cool attraction that allows transportation between it and Batu, a la the Railroad at Universal in FL. Put in ambitious new rides and create the kind of future that we all are looking for. Keep the videos coming B!
Why does every single attraction have to sell merch or have I.P. My favorite parts of the park have zero IP attached to them? The park can generate income as a whole by having first class attractions and amazing atmosphere and trying to force an I.P. or create a "marketable" attraction feels unnatural and doesn't have the same "heart" behind it. I do think Tomorrowland needs a refresh and Autopia does take up too much land but I think they should keep it and reduce the footprint.
I have a feeling that the ride is going to look like that Simpsons episode where Bart and Homer went on an electric car ride at Disney World.
Oh no! Traffic, the Ride might change? The horror.
Goodness do I hope Tomorrowland doesn’t go un-updated for another 10 years.
It should have been done years ago. Along with a new system for keeping the cars on course instead of the metal rail and updating themeing for the course.
I wanted to five Autopia a chance when we took our son for the 1st time but my 6yo saw Autopia and was like "...pass, I want to go to the bunny mountain with the log again". So yeah, we don't mind if Autopia goes byebye hahaha
They should just go with flying cars at this point.
40K subs in sight 👀
Always one of the worst memories of that ride… the fumes coming from all of the cars in front of you! LOL But I agree with the other commenter - how would you deal with the batteries? They would have to be swapped out during the day. An interesting problem.
One "futuristic" new feature on current autopia that is now common.... auto shutoff and starter. What other go-cart has that?! ITS THE FUTURE!!!
Disney doesn’t want to spend any money on tomorrowland. Knocking down the carousel theater would be an extremely inexpensive thing to do, and yet they are not willing to do it. Compared to the rest of tomorrowland, I think Autopia the monorail and the submarine are OK. Not futuristic, but that whole little configuration is sort of its own dated thing.
The drastically needed fix is the main corridor of tomorrowland and the abandoned carousel theater and the tomorrowland theater. And of course, the abandoned peoplemover
Disney should have Taco Bell as one of their sponsors... You could take the family for dinner and THEN use your farts to power the vehicle. It could be a scientific exhibit that uses alternative fuel sources.
Tomorrowland had a lot of potential due to sci-fi\science being a limitless source of attraction ideas but Disney didn't seem to care much for those themes in later years. Now with Star Wars Galaxy's Edge, there seems to be no need for a sci-fi themed land since the genre already covered. I prefer scifi/science over Star Wars but its done now. Star Tours and Space Mountain need to stay but otherwise the land should probably be re-themed to something completely different. A few more dark rides based on animated Disney films could be nice. Please no more Pixar or Marvel.
How are you doing i miss your envisions on everything in the park Brickey
The future of EV is autonomous driving so it becomes like any other ride in the park. What would be the fun in that to not manually drive your car? The only concern that I have is the awful smell of gasoline and the noise of a 2 stroke lawnmower engine. Why couldn’t they fix that a long time ago? Perhaps go hybrid. Mary Barra, the CEO of GM, is a member of Disney’s BOD. GM sponsors Test Track using the same technology of Radiator Springs Racers. Perhaps an EV-Ticket makes sense. 😅. I prefer they add the Tron Cycles ‘outdoor’ ride to be over Autopia to add more kinetic energy to the land.
OMG. Just rip it out!! It takes up a massive amount of valuable real estate.
hello!
TOMORROWland is supposed to be about the future. Autopia needs to convert the cars to "flying" modes of transport.
Are you at Animal Kingdom right now? 4/14/24?
Why yes I am.
Say hello if you see me again
Won’t it be too quiet? I’ll miss the putt putt noise. Watch out ducks!
I think they can create a futuristic sound.
Hopefully not too annoying.
They can also put in a trackless ride system similar to Ratatouille and get rid of the jarring center tracks.
@@jetviewerwhat fabulous ideas. You should be an imagineer! Still, I’ll miss the whiplash, bumper car aspect. Kill or be killed. ;). This may sound silly, but one of my fondest memories as a child was when the cm at autopia would assign a number spot to stand upon. So exciting for me! I go way back. Even to the fantasyland autopia that was fully automatic on a track for the kiddies. We always wanted to steal the hammer off the barn walls. ;)
Hydrogen powered cars with music and trackless lane keeping.
Make electric autopia an underground ride below the service in a very far in the future Tomorrowland One that won’t catch up to in 5-10 years.
I would say that if it got sponsored by Tesla/Elon Musk I wouldn't ride it. Lol. It'd be all falling apart.
Don’t agree with your premise.. keeping Autopia does not preclude making updates to Nemo, Buzz, Star Tours, Launch Bay, Galactic Grill, people mover.
Seems Disney is signaling certain rides like Autopia and Space Mountain are off limits. Which would imply surgical upgrades (if any), not an entirely new land.
Sounds like you should rewatch the video because that’s not what I said.
Rewatched.. you’re right! My bad 😅
Missed your Autopia 0 comment at the end. By the way.. I appreciate you too sir 🫡
@@nick7077 no worries. You always seem friendly so I wanted to let you know that we were probably close to being in a similar mindset. ❤️
That Autopia land is kind of a mess. Where the boats used to go is now filled in and home to all sorts of maintenance shacks. You can see them from the monorail. Its a real waste of space.
FOR tomorrowland 2036, electric autopia another 10 years from 2025 of service, Disney. 🙄
Instead of the NEW Tomorrowland or Tomorrowland NEXT, how about... wait for it... Tomorrowland ZERO? Let's go back to where it all started - the FUTURE! 🤣
Tesla Model Y is the world’s best selling vehicle.
I can see why. We absolutely love ours. My favorite car I have even owned.
@@HeyBrickey excellent vehicle……now you need a Cybertruck to go with it!! 😀👍🥂
One of the biggest lies told is zero emmisions with an EV.
Tomorrow land is changing to much rides. There are not enough rides to go a round the park Brickey.
I have a sensitive nose, and honestly the place smells HORRIBLE to me. Especially when youre stuck at th other end of the boarding area.
I really applaud Disneyland's change to electric for Autopia. Autopia literally stinks (and has that horrendously bad bearing noise that you can hear throughout this video). Does it fit in Tomorrowland? I don't know, it really depends on your perspective of the future of transportation. If personal automobiles are the way that we will continue, then I suppose so, with electrified vehicles. The "tomorrow" aspect of it is that of the children driving the cars who will in the future get their own license.
Really, to me, other than heritage steam operations (which they have changed to french-fry oil) they really should look at all the low hanging electrification fruit they can pluck. I wouldn't advocate this for the Main Street Vehicles which run on lower-emissions (but still carbon-based) natural gas, which has its own problems but on par with other operations are nearly innocent. Casey Jr. Circus Train is a simple attraction with two trains that frequently service a single station. Technically it is a diesel-electric hybrid because part of its motive power is derived from a lift chain powered from mains electricity. It wouldn't be hard to rip out the diesel drive train and replace it with either an electrified track, or given the large available space freed on the train, a quick-charging battery or supercapacitor. They have experience from Luigi's, Rise, and Runaway Railway, all battery (or supercapacitor?) powered vehicles with automatic quick charge capability in their stations. This one is offensive due to the fact that the diesel exhaust is vented right to where the guests sit behind it.
Even worse, the parking lot "trams" (diesel/natural gas road trains), which literally never made sense for that route between the Esplande and the parking garage. A fixed tram (as in what we call "trolley" or "streetcar") on standard gauge rail with overhead electrification would have given more comfort (air conditioning!) and better seating arrangements. They wouldn't have had to retrofit doors or have a crummy accessibility "mickey bus", and given their weird security bubble thing, the tram (trolley-type) closes in more secure fashion. It seems like heritage for heritage sake, with no charm or magic. The ride is unpleasant (especially in rainy or cold conditions) and the smoke belches into the front car bringing more pollution into guests' lungs. Not to mention extremely noisy.
The only thing I see as likely impractical to electrify in the park other than what I mentioned before is the Sailing Ship Columbia. It's not impossible, look at the Yellow Submarines. But for that one I don't see a likely payback. It's ironic considering it is modeled on a clean-fuel vehicle which is identified in the name. If they were going to electrify that one they'd probably be best to just adopt the electric charging solution that the Storybook Land Canal Boats uses (overnight charging), scaled up and installed in Fowler's Harbor.
That's even before considering their fleet of conventional vehicles used for security, maintenance, logistics, and other operational needs. Disney has had a very long time to step up their environmental game, they really should take some serious steps. The electrification of Autopia is great but I hope they don't stop there.
I disagree they should have expanded more like hybrid or hydrogen power.
Nope. Don’t love Autopia. The noxious fumes are awful, and the track wastes so much space. Would much rather have a villains-themed area a la Epic Universe’s Dark Universe put there instead. If there must be an updated electric version of the attraction, would rather it be saved for a complete do-over of Tomorrowland that incorporates it into other massive aesthetic changes. Wouldn’t mind if the next incarnation is something like Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty.
The fumes didn’t bother me the last time I rode Autopia. Maybe universal in the future can develop an autopia-like ride.
Excellent breakdown of the EV futures.
Thank you again for another informative video with intelligent projections🫡😎🇺🇸
Glad you enjoyed it ❤️
