I lived in LA briefly as a kid in the late 70s and I remember loving the Sky Way to Tomorrowland. I vividly remember hearing the screams of people riding the Matterhorn as our bucket went through the center of the mountain, along with the roar of the newly installed Abominable Snowman. When I moved back to LA thirty years later and finally went back to Disneyland, I was disappointed to discover the Sky Way was long gone. It would be cool if they brought something like it back.
I remember the Skyway when it went through the Matterhorn BEFORE they made the pass-through an enclosed tunnel You could see the whole rollercoaster inside the mountain. That was a very long time ago, though, some time in the early 80's, I think, when they did the major Fantasyland remodel.
Hey Brickey, I just love your enthusiasm. Wow. A skyliner would blow my mind. I am also one of those lucky people that was a child when the original skyliner went through the Matterhorn. Tomorrowland was so cool with both the people mover and the original skyliner. To have both of these back in the resort would make me one happy dude.
Skyway memory. I first went to Disneyland in 1976 (Bicentennial merch EVERYWHERE, same then as now, really) and at that time the Skyway of course went through the Matterhorn, but it was before the Matterhorn had been filled in, so you could see all the tracks and the bobsleds and the lattice of beams and such as you passed through. My next trip to the park was in 1980 or so, and by then the hole through the Matterhorn was filled in, so the trip through was a simple ice cave, similar to the rest of the Matterhorn, but everything else was obscured. As I grew older, I began to doubt my memory of the "open" Matterhorn, but eventually the internet arrived and it became possible to research that yes, that was how the Matterhorn was when I was 6, and my memory was accurate after all.
I remember that. Yes, they made the pass-through a tunnel in the early 80's. I have pictures of the interior of the Matterhorn somewhere, that it took in the early 1970s with my brand new Kodak 110 camera.
It has an environmental pitch making it favorable to California. The skyliner would get rid of fossil fuel buses. Might be a nice angle to get past the political pressure
California is the kind of state you are likely able to get good traction on Solar power, I wish people also try hydrogen. Litteraly a element we will never run out of.
I have no imagination whatsoever. Yet your explanation was so easy to understand and follow. Thank you for another great video and all the hard work that you do😊
When I was a kid in the 80s, I remember taking the Skyliner and it went through the Matterhorn by the yeti. I loved it because I was still too afraid to go on the Matterhorn at being able to go through it and see people on the ride let me experience it without having to go on it yet.
I'm 51. Have great memories of the open sky buckets. I'm sure there were people being horrible and throwing stuff out of them back in the day. But It's interesting how now we wouldnt even consider having open buckets. Fingers crossed this could happen. Thanks!!!
I rode the original sky liner when I was a kid. It was really neat going through the Matterhorn. I think they should route the Disneyland Railroad to go through DCA as well so you can go from one park to another. Or have a Monorail stop in DCA. I have detailed plans for both in my head.
It seems to me that the monorail used to stop in DCA but you have the problem of people NOT having park hoppers. So they would have to have 2 different monorail trains and you would have to have a park hopper to ride the one that went into DCA.
@@juliwilkins2876 I'm unaware that the monorail ever stopped in DCA. I think they should increase the charge slightly and do away with the park hopper system. Incorporate everything for 1 price. Having train and or monorail stops in both parks would make going between parks so much better. But probably only in my dreams.
When I was a teenager, my brother and I used to go to Disneyland every Friday, ($9 admission back in those days) and we loved to ride on the skyway. I'm not sure of the actual reason they were taken out, but I believe it had something to do with the fact that people used to throw things from the Skyway down onto the crowd below. I know people used to do this because I did it once myself, not a terribly proud moment in my life. Kids used to bring in straws and things like corn and spit wads to shoot at people. I'm sure this new version will be fully enclosed to prevent that sort of behavior. It will be pretty awesome to have the Skyway back.
Brickey, you are right sir! The old Skyway was awesome. My mom & I were there on the Skyway's last day, & we waited inside the Fantasyland queue. We were the last park guests to ride from Fantasyland to Tomorrowland. We waited in Tomorrowland until Mickey & Minnie were the last to ride the grand circke tour. Then they shut down the ride, & immediately started demolition that fateful day.😢
Riding the Peoplemover with my dad, is still some of my strongest memories I have of him. He had extreme physical, & medical issues. Rides like the Peoplemover, Skyway, & Disneyland Railroad were the only ones he could ride. He loved going to the park, & enjoyed seeing the rest of the family having fun.
I got to ride the Skyway many times in the 80's and early 90's. It was a great way to get off your feet and relax for a while. The best part was going through the Matterhorn. Thanks again for another great and informative video, keep it up Brickey we really appreciate it.
Wow exciting times, have a Skyliner would be awesome. I love how it helps validates your predictions. The puzzle is starting to come together. Can’t wait to see what else you can mine out of the report.
I can definitely see the Skyliner coming it would be definitely cheaper than a monorail and the current monorails don’t have air-conditioning in their usually shut down when it’s too hot outside
Skyliner would be ridiculous in Anaheim. Expanding the monorail to a large loop including the Toy Story lot area and functioning as an actual transportation system makes infinitely more sense.
I remember going through the Matterhorn when I was little. Realized I was too high. Never went on it again. Have gone on the Skyliner in WDW 10 years ago. Felt safe and secure.
This makes sense! I love your vision for the future! I've always said that I feel like Disney should listen to you. Keep up the fantastic work that you do! You are appreciated.
I really hope this happens, just as long as that lady doesn't flash people of course. I'm imagining a relaxing sunset ride on the skyliner over a lively downtown. They probably won't put it in the Matterhorn again but I hope they find a way to connect it to an attraction.
Loved the Skyway Buckets in Disneyland back in the day. Just returned from WDW and really enjoyed their Skyliner ( other than how hard they came into the stations 😬). Totally can see this happening. Great video.
What if: skyliner stop off of Convention Way, next to the entrance of the convention center? Sure Disney doesn't own any of that, but improving access to and from DLR from the convention center area would benefit Disney and the convention center (which I assume is owned by the City of Anaheim).
3:30 Someday Disney is going to formally announce the opening day of this new park. Thanks to Brickey, we can say, “We’ve already been there, and it’s amazing!”
I can’t imagine any property owner in Anaheim agreeing to have this thing flying over them. It would be an eyesore! I think it would be over Disney property only.
Excellent tie in to an upcoming adventure. Lots of hurdles to overcome but would be a great addition to the resort area. I think by all accounts Disney is very happy with success in WDW. Loving all the DisneylandForward content. #club1313
I love the graphics, they're helpful for me tracking where you are as a non-Californian. I love these wild ideas, and I'll keep up with them as you keep delivering content
We're over on the other side in the☀state and we wish you guys a SKYLINER addition!! It's so much fun to hop in them over here. 🤗 We went resort hopping for the very 1st time a few months ago and used the Skyliner to get us to places.
Another freaking awesome video! I see how hard you work for these vids, and they are SO GOOD. I love your vision! Thank you for sharing it; I can’t wait to watch your predictions come to life :)
This was great. I love stuff like this. I really hope Disneyland gets a skyliner. Do you think the harbor blvd merchants will try and protest it like they did with the eastern gateway bridge? Maybe there will be a way to build it that will satisfy everyone. I look forward to the rest of this series!
Even though I don't live in CA, I love your videos. Especially at Disney World. I am an AP and sometimes forgot the Magic of the parks. My favorite vlog is still the Animal Kingdom video with your wife. It was very moving.
There are actually two environmental studies being done. One for skyliner and one also for people mover.... It also should be mentioned that both include an expansion of the monorail. As far as our skyliner or people-mover I could see it as a combination of both given the complexities and how many lines are needed.
I’d like to see a monorail do this very same thing. The Skyliner are ski lift trams similar to the trams at Snow Bird in the Little Cottonwood Canyon near Salt Lake City.
I would rather see them add monorail beams to connect Mickey & Friends parking with DDD, the new Eastside parking structure and South to whatever they build at the current Toy Story parking area, going through Garden Walk as you mentioned. I think the monorail is more fun to ride and the rider feels more connected to what's going on below, as it's not so high up. Also, it would be less expensive to build than a Skyliner. And it can go under the electrical lines. And I think there would be less objection from surrounding hotels, etc.
Oooh… I ❤ the skyliner in WDW. And I remember when Disneyland had the Sky Buckets. I remember riding them before they closed them down. Would love to see some version of them back. Thank you again for creating this video.
The Disney Skyliner will not be installed because they are not safe in earthquakes. Disneyland, Sea World, & Magic Mountain all removed their cable cars post ‘94 Loma Prieta quake. Cables came off the towers at Magic Mountain which was close to the epicenter. Florida does not have major earthquakes.
I may not be picturing it right, but I see a station behind the new part of downtown. Another station outside the “Toy Story parking lot gate”. Trams would stop at downtown Disney station on way to normal stop at esplanade. Skyline would go over DCA and across harbor to TS parking lot land. Trams from the seven story parking lot would bring citizens to station or third gate.
I sooooo miss the Sky way between Tomorrowland and Fantasyland. No need to remove the center block/Island (Fire + Ice) it’s the perfect location for station to load or to unload into GardenWalk. If Disney owns it they want you to shop there, not just see it go by on your way to the park (Toy Story Lot). No?
I have vague memories of riding the sky buckets when I was young. I was not a scaredy cat 😅, but I think they may have made me a little squeamish even then. Can we get transported via roller coaster?! 😂 Thanks for the great content. A skyliner would rock.

I have always liked transportation that allows you to go from park to park without having to leave property. If there was a Skyliner line that took you from say Toon Town into Hollywoodland or something to go from Disneyland-DCA (visa versa) plus any Disneyland forward park expansions would be awesome.
In regards to the power lines; My understanding from my uncle when he worked for Disney is that Anaheim offered have Disney pay for the power lines to go under ground years ago, they did not want to at the time but when they were building Cars Land Disney inquired about it and and the price exploded. So they passed on it again and build the mountain range instead. So maybe the power lines can go in the ground for the a skyliner.

That would be great!
Exciting!

Imagine a 6.5 earthquake while you're on it 😮
See my comment-Skyliner is not going to happen as it would be very deadly in a major earthquake.

I would love the idea. But, it looks like there would be a longer walk rather than cross the street. The people mover would be more Walts dream.
What about using the exiting people mover track then extending it the pumba parking lot?
In regards to the power lines; My understanding from my uncle when he worked for Disney is that Anaheim offered have Disney pay for the power lines to go under ground years ago, they did not want to at the time but when they were building Cars Land Disney inquired about it and and the price exploded.
