I hope I get to see some of this before I die! 😂😂😂 In all seriousness, I have worked in the Construction field for 18 years and this had to be the most interesting construction video, ever! What a way to bring all the concept arts to life, David!!! This was awesome!
I would be very disappointed if Disney blows the Toy Story Lot land on a shopping center instead of a third gate, when GardenWalk is right there prime for retail redevelopment!
Hey Brickey has great ideas on how they are going to do it and with zoning info. This is all very interesting to hear the ideas you all have!!! Very excited!!! But 40 year to complete it all :( I will be 88 LOL.
Now that they have city approval the land itself went up in value. Which means it may be better to sell and not incur construction costs. It could be housing, retail or themed by a third party under agreement. After all, this is so cal and you can go in the ocean anytime. The minute Disney puts a shovel in the ground they are now are in debt, construction, and no revenue.
These videos give me real hope for the Disneyland Forward project as a whole so we thank you for all that you do David. I will also note how great it will be to finally get some of those good old fashioned bird’s eye views of the construction progress from Pixar Pals/Mickey & Friends parking structure as we did back when SWGE was being developed/constructed. That view at the end was a wonderful reminder of that exciting time for us fans.

Wow, thank you for this amazingly informative video. The use of maps, visual, markers, acreage, overlays, size comparisons, and overall quality is unmatched. Thank you for all of the hard work you put into this video. We are looking forward to Disneyland's expansion. ❤
The space in front of the hotel, by the convention center at 18:00, Iit looks like it could be a walk way space, similar to the space they have between the hotel and pool space. Maybe even a small pond of some sort? I'm excited for all this!
I stay at Kings Inn Anaheim right by the GardenWalk. I love being able to walk to the Gardenwalk and eat at Johnny Rockets or the Cheesecake factory, or purchase Starbucks for my wife. There's usually no one there, so the restraunts really cater to you and it's always quick.
Great future construction walk-thru David. I'm sure something will happen, but not in my lifetime. I love that Disneyland is always changing! Thank you for sharing, FreshBaked!❤
Great video David if walt disney was around he would be walking around like you are doing creating ideas and plans but amazing video keep up the great work

@3:19 concept art shows two show buildings with a connector between the show buildings. there is walkway for guest access to DCA to the east over Disneyland Dr between the two buildings. @12:49 the Downtown Disney Monorail Station is not shown? @26:24 looks like a new mega parking structure on the eastern side of the Katella cast member lot.
Dave, I hope you and your family are doing well. Just wanted you to know that the Disney content you put together always brightens my day! Keep up the great family friendly content. Peace! 🙏
I always park at the Garden Walk parking structure but I’ve NEVER EVER been into the actual place 😂 Always just stop by to walk to Disneyland for lunch or something when I have a reservation.
So much to ponder. Not just a big wide open space. Lots of planning and details. But... Disneyland OG is the best... tight and original and no far flung pieces to transport to.
Thank god for other theme parks that dont have to go through what Disneyland is going through i feel bad for Disneyland this is why Disney tickets are up because there to busy to keep up with Disney World or try to be bigger then Disney World love you fresh baked
Great video, but I believe that the first thing that they will do is build the Parking Structure on the east side, behind the hotels on Harbor Boulevard. They can't build anything on the parking lots until the have a replacement for all those cars to park.
Replacing the convention center with a parking lot is losing a huge revenue source. So I think the “Disney Springs” Toy Story lot space is the replacement hotel and convention center. This is a great video. Such fun to speculate and validate! Thanks for the footwork!
So a couple things. 25 acres for the south west may be a bit small depending on how close they run up to the frontier tower. The old Aulani building and lot can go also. Rose garden? Also the turn styles we have been monitoring; we have always assumed they were coming in to DTD right? Is it possible they are going the other direction, into the "new" DCA area?
They’re definitely being built to enter Downtown Disney right now. But they could always reverse them in the future. There’s also the possibility that they could make part of Downtown Disney actually inside the theme park space, especially after they open a bunch of new shops where the Toy Story lot currently is.

Nice walk today. I wonder where the RV parking will go? Thank you for your updates
Great vid. Re-themed/covered Disneyland drive will connect the north and south areas bypassing Downtown Disney all-together. Toy Story definitely will be 'themed' resort hotels--last chance for Disney to do this in 'urban' Orange County. How 'bout a high capacity skyway to move guests between Toy Story & Disney 'proper'. Eastern Gateway will have a walking path and a high capacity people-mover between parking and bag-check.
What if Disney made a two story indoor them park on toy story parking lot, Disney at one point was going to do something like that in St. Louis. Also if the bought garden walk I wonder if the would then be able to connect a skyliner
There was 41 acres in Burbank that the city was willing to sell to Disney "dirt cheap" in the 90s to build a new style of mall with attractions based upon Disney-MGM Studios. Universal played a part in shutting it down.
Something purely aesthetic I would love to see from Disneyland Forward would be the undergrounding of the high-voltage power lines that run right in front of California Adventure and around the perimeter of the Simba Lot. Undergrounding those lines would be extremely expensive but would substantially improve the look in this area (and the view from Paradise Pier), and would increase the amount of buildable land in the Simba Lot.
@@sierramist3249 Fires are not an issue in this area due to it being urban and meticulously landscaped. But undergrounding the lines would solve a number of issues including the potential ability to extend the monorail down to the Toy Story Lot for a 3rd park, or Disney Springs-type development, and access to the southern part of Disneyland Forward, etc. Also expanding the footprint/backstage developable area for DCA and DCA-DLF areas.
Great video! Some thoughts: 1. Crossing Disneyland Drive - instead of thinking of it as a long walk over a bridge, think of building a very wide bridge deck and then maximizing the use of all that "free" acreage. Those crossings won't feel like crossings at all - they will feel like key sections of lands loaded with F+B, retail, landscaping, etc. 2. Toy Story - to be a bit critical, WDW has been hijacked by timeshare development. I have to wonder if the entire Toy Story area is being given over to DVC and other fast ROI development schemes? Alternatively, do you think SoCal has any need for a waterpark? That would require only a smaller plot. Maybe it could be some combo of timeshare developments anchored with a water park and F+B/retail?
Regarding the area where the new construction is at Downtown Disney (44:00), in the concept art, there actually is a demarcation between the 2 sides of the Disneyland hotel that shows that area as a sort of "Gateway Plaza" where there will be turnstiles to enter the new lands on either side. In fact, the new "bag check" area being constructed now could possibly be one of two future turnstiles to enter the new lands from the inside. Currently will be used to allow guests to enter Downtown Disney but may eventually be used in reverse to allow guests to enter the park expansion from inside Downtown Disney. That's been my guess, anyway....
I expect Avengers E-ticket will be the very first attraction addition, possibly open for the Olympics. Cosmic Rewind is an easy build on available space, and is a guaranteed banger. Avatar comes next after Eastern Gateway garage is built.
Potential things I don’t think you mentioned: I believe that the GardenWalk property is also zoned for time shares that haven’t come to fruition yet. We know Disney loves to create more DVC space and this land is already zoned for that so that would be a huge win for Disney. Also if Disney did buy GardenWalk, is there anything stopping them from buying that hotel? Keep in mind that what is now the Pixar Place Hotel wasn’t always owned by Disney, they acquired that one in the late 80s or early 90s. Hell, Disney didn’t even own the Disneyland Hotel until they bought out the Wrather Corporation (also got them the film rights for Lone Ranger, and the Queen Mary and Spruce Goose). If they were to put a 3rd gate at the Toy Story lot, the easy solve for the noise issue would be to have rides with large show buildings (a la Pirates, Indy, Rise, Runaway Railway, etc) line those boundaries. As well as backstage facilities (offices, maintenance, costuming, etc). They could also do the Hotel as a berm concept like Grand Californian. I just have a hard time believing they would open a new shopping district on the Toy Story Lot instead of theme park use. Also one thing to keep in mind, there are 2 roads that intersect the Toy Story Lot; Clementine would cut through North to South if the City wanted to complete it, and I believe going East to West it would be Gene Autry Way in the East and Hotel/Convention Way on the West (I’m not as clear on that one). I’m fairly certain the stretch of Clementine that cuts through the property was privatized with Disneyland Forward, but I’m not positive if the East/West road was too. That said, I can understand why Disney would have been more willing to tease a shopping district if they didn’t know for sure they would get to privatize those roads because while they are public, the city can decide to just clear cut and make the connecting roads. So why build a park when that could happen. But if both roads are privatized now via the Disneyland Forward vote, then Disney would be far more free to do a park over there without worrying about the city mucking things up in the future. The planning department document dated October 2021 does indicate those roads would be included.
Dave, Fantasy Springs is a fascinating addition to these speculations. It is about 15 acres (not counting the new hotel), and it is a kind of "uber land" that encompasses three small lands in about the same space as Galaxy's Edge. The three IPs in FS are close enough in tone that they don't need huge thematic transitions between them. Looks like a design success to me. While Avatar would need to be its own separated thing, perhaps there are other IP's that could flow together with smaller footprints like at Fantasy Springs.
All of those high tension power cables running through the lot will be what run underground? How much would the cost to move those power grids holey smokes
300 feet is the set back, for residential area zones on Disneyproperty. Use the new Disneyland Hotel tower as a guide to see an example of the set back. (not the step up part, but the tower). The GardenWalk is zoned for Vacation Club use
Oh my gosh!! Was waiting for a video like this to break it down on the possibilities of how it would probably look when Disney expands. Overall I Love the vid!! I’m just sad that Toy Story parking lot will be gone. I love parking there. Don’t like parking structures because it’s a pain when I want to leave. Toy Story is so easy. 😁 I will be watching this video again! Thank you!!!
Put the parking structure above ground and the convention center under the parking lot. By the time this all starts we are going to have atleast one if not two more Avatar movies so it could fill a whole land with many parts of avatar.
They would need some type of transportation to get you to and from the extended section of the park, It would be too far for guests to walk. Maybe something they can copy from WDW? Any mention of a transportation on the plans?
A few thoughts/questions: 1) With the Toy Story lot, could they move a lot of the operations from the Northern backstage area of Disneyland, into newly constructed office/commercial buildings that are built in that buffer zone you mentioned, creating more potential Theme Park expansion on that northern end of Disneyland? 2) You mentioned that DisneylanfForward is a 40 year plan, and I may get destroyed for this thought, but 30 years into that plan, The Grand Californian & Pixar hotels will be over 50 years old. It could be possible that one, or both are torn down, with their replacements being built in the Toy Story lot. Thus freeing up more space “on property” for Theme Park expansion. 3) Similarly, Downtown Disney could ‘move” and become a “Disney Springs” style place, in the Toy Story lot, The current Downtown Disney could be used for Theme Park expansion, at the tail-end of the DisneylandForward plan, in say 30-40 years. Especially, if they do buy up (and seriously renovate) Garden Walk, they could connect that with a new Disney Springs-esque area.
It will be interesting to see what Disney says at D23 if anything at all. If they're in the mindset to get avatar fully built and open by the time the 2028 summer Olympics come to LA then they would have to start building it starting next year. But who knows. I enjoyed this entire video.
They'll have four gates I think. They will do some buildings that will act as sound barriers to not lose the space. Downtown disney is moving to to Toy Story lot. It will also be a hotel location for Disney near the shopping with some interactive hotel experiences.
I think the first announcements for Disneyland Forward at this upcoming D23 will be: 1. Eastern Gateway - The old hotel property is ~30’ wide. It's about the same width as the walkway from Pixar and Mickey & Friends parking structures to Downtown Disney. If the walkway over Harbor Blvd is developed like a two-story building, with an entrance to it below the walkway to the parks. I could see how the businesses may not be offended by it. The estimated time frame is 2028. 2. Avenger’s E-Ticket - The parking lot that resides behind the facade of the Avenger’s HQ and Radiators is 2.67 Acres or over 115k sq ft. That is with egress to allow vehicles behind Luigi’s and next to the tram depot. The entrance would be next to the Avengers store. For Reference, the show building for Runaway is 1.91 Acres or over 83k sq ft; about 72% of the size of the parking lot behind Avengers HQ. The estimated time frame is 2029. 3. The official announcement of Disneyland Forward and the confirmation that Avatar will be the first major land to be built and opened in the expansion plots. The estimated time frame is 2032-34. Can’t start building any of this until the Eastern Gateway parking structures are completed. I do not see the replacement of the Hollywood Backlot being announced until the Gateway Project is completed. When they redo that area, with an expansion into the old transportation area. I can see a rework of Hollywood Blvd having a singular entrance where the stage is. Close the two other entrances to make a transition area to a themed land. I also can see a renovation to Indy happening a year or two after the retheme of Dinosaur in Animal Kingdom.
I know the current Downtown Disney construction would contradict this theory… but is there a chance that the Toy Story lot becomes the new Downtown Disney in the later phases of Disneyland Forward and the current Downtown Disney becomes even more Disneyland and DCA park expansion? Obviously this would be taking place later on in the project and would make sense since all 70ish acres like you mentioned aren’t usable? Thoughts on this theory?
I do hope that whatever plans they make still allow east side hotel patrons to enter via harbour, it’s such a convenient and more affordable area to stay!
@@eddieg6436 Oh yes it is. I bet a ton of moolah on it happening and I know I will win just like Biff Tannen. Disney will also be mine and I will make it great again.
It was my understanding that in the Disneyland forward package the Disney company wanted to purchase Hotel Way as well,,so what’s going on with that? Isn’t Hotel Way right next to the Convention Center right across from the Toy Story parking lot??
So I definitely thought about your last point and I posted a video 9 months ago with my thoughts. To me the ESPN zone building is in the perfect spot to be morphed into a new entrance to the expansion space. I’m actually hoping for some sort of indoor entrance which would be unique. I believe one of the Disney parks in Asia has something like that?
I do think that the Disney Springs-esque idea for the Toy Story parking lot doesn't necessitate squandering it forever as a 3rd gate opportunity. The truth is we don't really need a 3rd gate right now, DCA isn't 100% maxed out yet, the transportation hub moving would open an additional opportunity for it, and we're looking at another 4-6 lands between the two parks in that side of this project alone. That's not that far off than the total amount of expansion we've had since DCA opened (which debuted with only 4 lands itself, although that was a mistake). They have enough space for enough new ideas to continue to drive park traffic without even needing to tap it yet. Although, they could generate a lot of retail income and the resort is desperately in need of more Disney hotels, so that's a pretty good temporary use. They can easily spend the next few decades using the Toy Story lot as a retail/hotel district and then modify that for theme park use once they've actually run out of space, particularly for a 40 year vision. By the time we're even halfway through that timeline, it wouldn't exactly be absurd of them to close the existing spaces given they'd have lived a significant life already. We watched them close a solid portion of Downtown Disney for a hotel project less than 20 years after the area opened. At that point, they could even revisit the Garden Walk as a purchase option, or look into purchasing more land in the surrounding area to remove buffer concerns (notably the adjacent hotels that do occupy significant space on some sides of it), or they could just go ahead and create a smaller park akin to what we're seeing Universal do in Texas. Nothing they're proposing in the concept art (except maybe the lake) would be particularly difficult to tear down and revisit down the line, and as David pointed out, they don't even seem to be using all of the space even with the buffer concerns.
How you get to toy story lot for park hopping? Hire elon to bore a tunnel and put a underground themed subway like attraction. Walt loved transportation . Or a underground omni mover
haha oh man I just booked a trip and am staying at the JW, didn't realize it was in garden walk xD gonna have to stay up to date with news before I go!
All I know is that with all the future construction, Earl of Sandwich is going to be moved another 3 times.
The owners must be super patient to tolerate that kind of treatment.
Only 3 times?
I heard the latest plan was to stick EoS up in the Matterhorn basketball court.
I hope I get to see some of this before I die! 😂😂😂 In all seriousness, I have worked in the Construction field for 18 years and this had to be the most interesting construction video, ever! What a way to bring all the concept arts to life, David!!! This was awesome!

Any word on where all the displaced parking spots will be? New lots?
Dave,
Fantasy Springs is a fascinating addition to these speculations.
Excellent video, David!
300 feet is the set back, for residential area zones on Disneyproperty.
Use the new Disneyland Hotel tower as a guide to see an example of the set back. (not the step up part, but the tower).
The GardenWalk is zoned for Vacation Club use
Ok Fresh Baked! Now my head is just spinning.
Yes, the plans to the city referenced pedestrian bridges, Monorail, PeopleMover and Skyway
Why not a tunnel to connect a parking garage to the eastern gateway? Practical for siesmic activity?
A few thoughts/questions:
1) With the Toy Story lot, could they move a lot of the operations from the Northern backstage area of Disneyland, into newly constructed office/commercial buildings that are built in that buffer zone you mentioned, creating more potential Theme Park expansion on that northern end of Disneyland?
On the Disneyland Forward plans it has the Garden Walk listed as “Disney Overlay” why do you think?
They'll have four gates I think.
They will do some buildings that will act as sound barriers to not lose the space.
Downtown disney is moving to to Toy Story lot. It will also be a hotel location for Disney near the shopping with some interactive hotel experiences.
I think the first announcements for Disneyland Forward at this upcoming D23 will be:
3:25 that’s probably going to be where they put pandora
I'll be dead by the time they are done 😂😂
Is it possible they take advantage and add another hotel?
I do hope that whatever plans they make still allow east side hotel patrons to enter via harbour, it’s such a convenient and more affordable area to stay!
They could have park hop entrances without rope drop? Only open them at 11?
Toy Story lot better become a 3rd park!!! We don’t need another Downtown Disney!!
It won't and Downtown Disney can go away entirely. Maybe it's time to go back to a parking lot and no more Downtown Disney or DCA.
@@stanfordite1 Ummmmm, ok. Never going to happen 🤷🏼♂️🤔
How big is Fantasy Springs which has a hotel, could that be the Toy Story Parking Lot.
Disney springs likely going to be disney timeshare dvc...i suspect they want to sell more dvc.
Where are people gonna park if they use all the parking lots?
Either way one of the parking lots will be a version of Fantasy Springs as its 34.5 acres and they've said “look forward to” but it could change
Second Entrance?
How about an Early Entrance for Hotel guests (west of Disney Drive) and the Rope drop entrance at Main Street
