  • Disneyland's Tomorrowland is currently in a state of disrepair, and the contrast with Walt Disney World's Tomorrowland at the Magic Kingdom highlights the extent of the neglect. It is clear that Disneyland has fallen short in realizing its vision of Tomorrow and in the process have put Walt Disney's vision of tomorrow in a graveyard of dead attractions and broken dreams.
    Discover the differences between Tomorrowland at Disneyland and Magic Kingdom! From attractions to theming, we'll compare these two iconic versions of Tomorrowland at Disney parks. Which one is your favorite? Share your thoughts in the comments below!

    I hate it when you're critical of Disney AND you're 100% correct. If they're willing to shut down the entire southwest corner of the part for a year, seems like the park could survive a year without most or all of Tomorrowland. We don't need all new Tomorrowland. We just need 1980's Tomorrowland. Peak Tomorrowland.

      What the powers-that-be @ WDC NEED to do are:
      1.) STOP making CRAP movies, that, SUPPOSEDLY, are trying to make folks more…tolerable of certain issues being addressed today. The only thing these movies have succeeded in doing are FLOPPING…😤…nuff said on THAT;
      2.) Enough is ENOUGH w/ this whole selling out to the whole Emo 🖤 Woke subculture, and using those…”social values” to indoctrinate children into BEING more accepting;
      3.) Put that $$$ they KEEP wasting on #’s 1 and 2, toward building on the IPs and Park Lands that DO appeal to the social collective [and not just this group or that!!!];
      4.) Take a cue from other destination resorts like Cedar Parks (e.g., Knott’s Berry Farm, Six Flags (e.g., Magic Mountain) and Universal Studios (whose recent ventures, e.g., Harry Potter, Super Nintendo World, and Fast & Furious) seem to appeal to ALL ethnicities, ages, and the various social groups out there!!!);
      & FINALLY…
      5.) If [me and my family] are paying what they’re charging for a Magic Key Pass (bring back the old Annual Passports, IMOO…😠!!!), then we SURE AS HELL don’t appreciate being told when we can and can’t go into the Park…😡!!!!!!
      And UNTIL WDC decides to get their act together, my family and I will continue to make the OTHER destination resorts get OUR family holiday $$$…😁…
      Peace ☮️ out…🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻

    I’ve heard so many express sorrow and disdain for what Tomorrowland is today. It’s an embarrassing land. I grew up in LA and was a kid throughout the 80’s. We were always at Disneyland. Up through the early 1990’s Tomorrowland was fantastic. It was alive! And booming! It was so much fun to be in that energy. The People Movers, America Sings, the Rocket Jets were up high above the People Movers. America the Beautiful. Then Disney made horrible choices in dismantling them. For what? For nothing. There’s nothing there.
    They could put America Sings back where that awful Carousel of Progress is. Went in that with friends and everyone was like, “Oh my God this is horrible, get us out of here.” The animals in America Sings we know we’re moved to Splash Mountain. Who knows if they’ll be in that new Tiana ride. Speaking of which, they’re closing Critter Country and that whole area is shut down anyway. None of that is necessary right now. They should’ve shut Tomorrowland to fix it back up.
    Disneyland officials have stated they had wanted to put People Movers back and had that intention after the disaster ride they replaced it with broke down for good. The problem they said is the ride tracks are just a mess. Fixing it is beyond costly. They also can’t remove the beams that hold the tracks either. The reminder that there was once a ride there. The reason is it holds up a lot of the structures in that land. Whoever made the decision to take People Movers out to begin with should be fired.
    The Buzz Light Year thing that is in the building that America the Beautiful was once is not necessary. It’s a decent ride, but nothing worthy of being memorable. It’s a cheesy video game ride that is more appropriate for a carnival or Pixar Pier. They should bring back Adventures through Inner Space and put it there. Update it with some new technology. That’ll fit better in Tomorrowland with the space theme like Space Mountain and Star Tours. While Star Tours is a beloved fun attraction, now it almost seems like maybe move that to the Star Wars land.
    The second floor of where America Sings was once was is some Disney offices. As I’ve been in there in the past.
    Oh and then Captain EO was a hi-tech treat of a show below Space Mountain. What’s there now? Who knows. I think it’s abandoned as well.
    There was also Mission to Mars, which they replaced with some pizza place. 🙄
    Next to the People Movers at the restaurant they’d have a rock band singing major popular hits. You could hear it across the land. It made it all even more alive!
    So yeah, the remodel should’ve been done with Tomorrowland not Critter Country, Splash Mountain and Haunted Mansion.
    If Walt Disney were still around and running things, he never would’ve allowed any of this.

    Just got back from WDW myself, and the only W DL's Tomorrowland gets is Space Mountain. Honestly the entire land needs to be demo'd including space mountain, just because the land needs to be reconfigured. I'd love for a new Space mountain to be the centerpiece of Tomorrowland, it would open the door to allow for 360 projections on the whole mountain, instead of having a terrace block the view of the majority of the mountain. Star Tours really should be relocated to the space behind Winnie the Pooh. If Space Mountain is centered where the people move station was, you can build a new people mover station over the Launch Bay building and go straight into space mountain. A ride like Tron Lightcycle should be able to fit in the current space of StarTours/Space Mountain, or even further south, if DL Forward calls for the removal of the bus drop offs. AstroBlasters should be demo'd or modernized it hasn't aged well and having toy story across the street makes it looks worse. Wall-E deserves a place in Tomorrowland. The subs should never have been Finding Nemo, and that was a quick hot IP reskin, which really should have been either 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, or Atlantis: The Lost Empire.

    • @RetroGirl1967

    • @aaronmanill4951
      @aaronmanill4951 2 месяца назад +1

      @@RetroGirl1967 I mean it depends on how thrilling Disney is willing to go, I think Tron could theme to Wall-E and is probably a better merch mover then Tron is. I like Brickey am also opptomistic on Tommorrowland expanding a bit south towards the bus drop offs, but there are some logisitcal issues to deal with mostly in the monorail and train tracks both run through that space. I'm also not sure if they can take the capacity hit of shuttering tomorrowland before the Disneyforward Land beyond Critter Country tho.

    • @himynameiscorey
      @himynameiscorey Месяц назад

      Finding Nemo was an enormous success and Atlantis a flop, that’s all you need to know aboutwhy they chose the one IP theme over the other. Still, I agree, and like the Adventureland treehouse let’s strip the IP back and make it like it originally was: 20,000 Leagues.

  • @alextirrellRI

    I'd been thinking about this lately, that all Disneyland Tomorrowland needs is things it had before -- a working PeopleMover, anything decent in the Carousel building, and a restoration of Astro Orbiter on top of the PeopleMover station. (I'd heard the new one is too heavy -- the Orbitron is the old one?) Bonus points for Starcade, electric cars for Autopia, maybe even a short film in the theatre which is also apparently empty?
    Part of me really wants to believe there is an engineering way to overcome the rumored obstacles. I'm always hearing the PeopleMover track is damaged -- in theory the Rocket Jets track that replaced the original PeopleMover system is what is still up there. Is it that which is damaged, or the actual concrete or supports?

  • @QuatroAtYale
    @QuatroAtYale 3 месяца назад +7

    My favorite way to enter Disneyland is to catch the Monorail into Tomorrowland and decide from there where I'm going. I can then take the train over to Main Street or over closer to Galaxy's Edge.
    So Profe Brickey, what do you suggest we do about fixing this? Ok, ok, I know, WE can't fix it. But we can dream, right? Yep, that's what Walt would do.
    Personally, I have the memories of when Tomorrowland really moved, with the PeopleMover, that cool rocket ride above it, the Carousel of Progress AND Journey Thru Interspace, which was a really mover and consumer of people. But even though I have wonderful memories and I like being nostalgic, I think we don't need to do that. Let's move forward! How would you make use of that wonderful layout and still make it into a future?

    I grew up only going to Disneyland and now as a cast member at Magic Kingdom in Tomorrowland, it makes me upset thinking about how amazing Disneyland’s Tomorrowland could be. Seeing the People Mover constantly running, the Astro Orbiter high in the sky, and the Carousel of Progress just really makes me wonder how amazing Disneyland could be if they just worked on their Tomorrowland. In all honestly, Disneyland has the better attractions. Space Mountain, Buzz, Autopia, Star Tours (oppose to laugh floor) are all so much better at Disneyland than Magic Kingdom. Not to mention we have the Matterhorn, which is basically just a better version of Magic Kingdom’s Space Mountain.

I remember growing up going to Disneyland and the views when you looked up in Tomorrowland and saw the People mover, the Monorail, the Skyway gondolas and the Rocket Jets (now called the Astro Orbiter) above the People Mover loading area, surrounded by the cars of Autopia and the submarines. It was awesome! So much movement and action, AND they all ate a ton of people so you didn't have nearly as many people just wandering around or waiting in line for two or three rides like you do now. What Disney has done to Tomorrowland is really shameful.

      Eventually there will be enough people, young enough to have never known Tomorrowland when it was full of excitement and energy, clamoring for Disney to tear down the monument from the past, and the corporation will use that excuse to replace it with something that reflects the new corporate ideal (make more money). I expect they will replace it with a land focused on Pixar properties, or maybe a villain-centered extension of Fantasyland.

    It's sad seeing the attractions sanctioned and introduced by Walt Disney himself, gone from Disneyland. Someday I hope to go to "The Magic Kingdom" and experience them for myself once again.
    As I remember it in Disneyland, the "Astral Orbiter" was originally a ground attraction when I was a kid. I rode it then and I rode it when they moved it to the top of "The People Mover". It was scary, as an adult, to be so high up in the air.
    The "Carousel of Progress" used to be pretty cool, but it didn't continue as Walt Disney had intended. Walt Disney meant for it to be continually updated, but it seemed to be struct in the 60's. Instead of updating it, they changed it to different kinds of attractions. The change to "America Sings" was a joke. As Disney is into recycling, some of the characters ended up in "Splash Mountain". Now that's gone. Probably more fitting the Tomorrowland theme, when they changed it to a hands-on experience of current high-tech and future high-tech(showing and updated take on Disney's "Home of The Future") was probably a tribute to Walt Disney.
    The "People Mover" was in it's prime when it went through some of Disneyland's other "Tomorrowland" attractions, giving us a pre-view. When they changed it to "Rocket-Rods"? was pretty cool. A very popular ride, I remember waiting in line for quite awhile to ride it. I seem to remember the line made a loop through Disney's "Circle Vision", which was sade to see go. Another of Walt Disney's introduced attraction. It would still have a place today. Well, the "Rocket Rods"? was plagued with breakdowns, and it did when I was riding in that single front seat, but it did get going again and we went through the entire loop. But, "The People Mover" was cool and reminded me of Walt Disney everytime I rode it.
    Oh, hey! It's great to see you outside of the "Gold and Silver Pawn Shop" in Las Vegas!

    The old spot used to spin around and blow steam and make noise at 1 point. I don't even think it does that anymore. :( I rode the old rockets alot in my youth. Way before it was even called ASTRO orbiter. Good times.

    Supposedly the reason why they cannot use the old Disneyland Astro orbiter is because the soil under the structure is slowly sinking. But regardless if it is or not, no idea why they do not just rip it out…repack the soil, lay foundation and rebuild? But that is the reason an “unnamed cast member” gave me when I asked years ago.

    Disneyland is a 1-story attraction. You can get the flow moving along the ground level better if you open up a 2nd level - and additional attractions like those defunct in Tomorrowland - to get people moving above on that second level.
    I’ve been going to DLand since 1967 - probably over 75 times - and you just made me realize that. Thanks for that revelation! ❤

    While I agree Tomorrowland in Disneyland is weak, I am sad when visiting WDW Tomorrowland as you walk in there's an area that's been sitting vacant for over 7 years now. Laugh Factory is getting old. Though Tomorrowland WDW did get Tron (after 5+ years of construction of a duplicate ride no less) it's waay too short of a ride. Carousel of Progress is in need of a huge update (I wish they would do an animatronic version of Walt for it)
    The Astro Orbiter is a huge pass of a ride.

    The early to mid 90s the annual passes were rather inexoensive. Orange County parents purchased passes for their children to go to the park after school and the parents would pick them up after work.
    This caused a lot if problems inside the park.
    The entrance to Tomorrowland, an open walkway into the land, was continuously crowded M-F by teens hanging out.
    Families from out of state would head to City Hall to make comments of the teen hangout environment inside the park.
    Tomorrowland 1998 attempted to solve this gathering element by creating a space that encourages flow, not stopping.
    The budget for Tomorrowland 1998 was cut twice.
    Once by GM because of the delays of Test Track in Epcot and again by Paul Pressler.
    The Imagineering team was left holding the non existent money bag.
    The buildout of the 1998 Tomorrowland shut the entire land down.
    The Park has vowed to not follow this path in the future.
    Fantasyland was a 10 year redo, one attraction at a time.
    Tomorrowland was heading in the same direction just before the Pandemic.
    Then the Disneyland Forward project was announced.
    What this means for Tomorrowland?
    My guess is that it is the same answer as Hollywood Land at DCA as well as Disneyland Forward

    I’ve been fortunate to stay at ALL of the Disney Parks, multiple times and Tomorrowland is often the most troubled, even the newest entry, Shanghai, on the left side of the Park, not just to be different, but because the skyline of Shanghai is on that side and it better fits with the ascetic when viewing, from the SH Disneyland Hotel, just is not as inviting in terms of a theme that welcomes you and makes you want to stay, in contrast with the rest of their Lands. All of that said, Paris is likely my favorite, followed by Tokyo, (before Space Mountain is demolished) as it felt like a well preserved Magic Kingdom, stuck in the retro 1960s. What I don’t get, is… why Tomorrowland (outside of Paris and what they attempted to do with the re-theme for Disneyland) has the least cohesion? While I like what they’ve attempted to do in Hong Kong, by making it the Stark Expo (World’s Fair), they didn’t go all-in. So… if you want to do a future that never was from the 1950s-1960s, then make it look and feel like 1960. If you want to go with Jules Verne vibe, like Disneyland Paris and Tokyo Disney Sea have, then go all the way with it. Or better yet… Why not rip it away and re-theme ALL of Tomorrowland into Pixar, Star Wars, Avatar or Marvel? The answer, poor planning and an unwillingness to invest into a compressive plan, vs fast integrations. While Disneyland overall is THE best of the hub and spoke Magic Kingdoms, it has suffered from bad decision making when it comes to what has or has not gone into Disneyland Park vs. Disney’s California Adventure. Before I ramble, more, upon a 2023 visit to Orlando, I enjoyed the vibrancy of WDW’s iteration with its dual E-Tickets, People Mover, Carousel of Progress, elevated Astro Orbiter and enjoyable Buzz make you overlook a surprisingly decent, Laugh Floor and defunct Alien Encounter that leaves you wondering what could be. One final note, before they meddled with EPCOT, in many ways, the 1980s vibe of Future World was the best modern iteration of Walt’s 1960s vision.

    Looks like I am in the minority but I love Tomorrowland. Here is why:
    It's nostalgic to me. I love how I feel when I walk through it, reminding me of how much fun I had there as a Kid, I'm 48 now. :( It has deep roots to Walts creative hand on it. So many of the original creators of Disneyland are present throughout the land as well. Similar to Matterhorn, that ride is so popular because it is such a classic and heads would roll if you ever changed it, even though its about 60 years old. I realize a lot of the other lands have been updated too but this land just feels frozen in time as to what it must have felt like 60+ years ago. Maybe it would be fine if they "updated" in a way they don't completely level the place. But really would be just as happy if they left it alone! JMO :)
