  • Why are dozens of US students getting their medical degree in Cuba? 🇨🇺
What are they learning that they wouldn't be in the US?
We asked these questions and more to four US medical students currently studying at the Latin American School of Medicine (ELAM) in Havana through IFCO/Pastors for Peace's ELAM Scholarship Program.
Here's what they had to say.

One of my best students at UCLA, Sarpoma Sefa-Boakye, got her medical degree at this school in Cuba. She now provides medical attention to the poorest people in the border region of Southern California, most of whom are migrant farm workers. This is one of the many good things Cuba does internationally that we know so little about in the US. We need to end the blockade, establish trade relations, allow for travel, and end this absurd cold war that has gone on as long as I can remember. We have full relations with Vietnam after a stupid war that cost us 50,000 American lives and many times more Vietnamese lives. The shoes I am wearing are made 8,364 miles away in Vietnam. Cuba is 90 miles away and we can't even drink their rum or smoke their cigars or enjoy their hospitable people and great food. Why not have the same kind of relation we have with other "communist" countries? What are we afraid of? other than the hysterical exile community in Miami?

That exile community would have us believe that they were fleeing death squads.
But think about it. Cuba has the best health and educational results in all of Latin America! They display an unparalleled international solidarity, and people all around the World (including people I know personally here in South Africa) have received Cuban medical aid during the COVID pandemic!
The exile community is made up of people who left during or briefly following the revolution. They're predominantly made up of people who came from Urban areas, which saw less oppression during the Batista dictatorship which the revolution overthrew.
The conclusion is obvious. These "exiles" were among the privileged citizens who didn't mind that their fellow citizens were subject to poverty and police violence. They thought they would live less comfortably or even see retribution under an egalitarian society.
All that is to say, that community is indeed very hysterical.

      In Philadelphia?
No food, no education, no housing. Nothing. In the U.S., not just in Philadelphia.

Viva Cuba. May Allah bless the country for the good they do, and forgive them for the errors they've made.
