That's him in all of the movies he popped up in back before he was big. Hell, he even made his lines in Robin Hood: Men in Tights funny, even though most of them sound suspiciously like a 60 year old Jewish man trying to write "the funny black urban jokes that the kids like".
Also, his turn as Miss Muffet's spider in 1997's Mother Goose: A Rappin' n Rhymin' Special is nothing short of inspired.

The pacing in this movie was some of the best. John Malkovich made this otherwise ridiculous story amazing.
Nick is completely wrong on this take, thr reason John is so intimidating is because he just looks like a "meek random dude" from first glance that would have your skin stripped and taxidermied

The fact that a war hero is convicted for manslaughter (?) after defending himself and his wife from people who wanted to rape her never sat well with me. Of course, those were the innocent days of Hollywood where protagonists couldn't be bad, so they had to think of a reason for a good guy to go to prison to do hard time. They didn't think that hard, though. You can tell.
It was part of Hollywood liberal brainwashing that the criminal system is bad, veterans are bad, violence is bad, FBI is bad, etc

Con Air had the most hollywood ending ever. Nicolas cage standing on a firetruck that was on fire driving through the stripe in Las Vegas, meanwhile fighting the bad guy and then a briefcase breaks up and money flies everywhere in the air meanwhile his love runs to him.
For some reason, that scene just makes me laugh out loud so hard xD
Chasing a firetruck with a motorcycle that literally explodes on impact with the back of the firetruck, and somehow from there Cyrus ends up on a rock crusher that was only a few feet away from the Las Vegas strip. What a great movie.
Con Air is such a good movie, everyone hamming it up just the right amount.

I’ve been talking about Con Air for years in exactly this way. It’s awesome because it’s like this heightened reality, comic book-logic movie (especially with every criminal even having like a super villain nickname and a gimmick) but holy shit Cyrus is just a drama kid gone bad.
Also the only criminal who seems like legit scary is the dude from X Files and Training Day who plays Billy Bedlam. That dude actually seemed like a real criminal and they have him killed in the stupidest scene of the movie (he wouldn’t put the bunny back in the box).
If Con Air was made today it would be like the first Suicide Squad movie where all the cons would have a big flashy intro and a bullet point list and their name would have a logo and it would be flying all over the screen with 5 different pop songs playing every few seconds.

Johnny 23 and Johnny 5 reminds me of this thing I do where I imagine an actor is their own cinematic universe. Like Al Pacino's gangster arc meeting its end in Donnie Branco. Or even more obscure, Andy Dufresne from Shawshank Redemption went on to get out of jail but somehow get drafted and died in Vietnam during his Jacob's Ladder episode.
Plot twist.. that was really John Travolta with Nick's face on... lol, I love when the faces are off.. and then on, and then off again..

I'm not a huge Nicolas Cage fan but I did like this movie.
However I think they missed a golden opportunity with Cyrus The
Virus.
They should have had a chubby female guard early on on the plane who is knocked unconscious during the initial uprising. Her name is Maxine and she is played by a surly Lena Dunham type actress.
At the end of the film when Nicolas Cage and John Malkovich are in a life or death struggle just after the stinking breath monologue Cyrus is run through with a long spiky piece of metal wielded by Maxine who has recovered from her concussion.
As John Malkovich stares in disbelief at the long length of metal sticking out of his torso Maxine quips... *I guess Cyrus the Virus is no match for Maxine the Vaccine*
