Deep Space Nine was definitely the best one. If you get rid of all the filler episodes and just watch the ones about the main storyline, it is extremely well done.
Pretty much, yeah. It’s aged better than any other Trek, and it’s the only iteration I can get non sci fi fans into after a few episodes. The characters feel more genuine and, like you said, the main storyline is unmatched. Part of me wishes that it got more recognition and also I’m gay
The other series followed the typical star trek format of self-contained adventures that begin and end in one episode, so there wasn't really much of an over-arching storyline. I agree DS9 is definitely among the best, or most consistently good, but I try not to compare DS9 to the others.
I thought that the last season and the ending sucked and it was filled to the brim with filler (although the baseball episode is great) but the warp from lighthearted problems of an backwater space station to the most important station in the alpha quadrant and full scale war made it really compelling
It was all extremely well done, it just depends if you wanna follow any of the side characters closely or not. Miles O’Brien has a lot of awesome episodes, Doctor Bashir and Garak do too
The lighter episodes were also nice to have in a series with an otherwise serious tone. The writers remembered that it was still Star Trek, and gave the characters some entertaining quirks for the purpose of occasional levity.
