It's about two plumbers that go to a magical kingdom to save a princess.
Damn, this is too much buzzwords for my coked up brain

i love how all of this stems from someone asking one of the chowsk siblings at a panel “is the red pill a metaphor for estrogen” and them saying “i mean that wasn’t what we were thinking when we made them but yeah i can see how uve came to that conclusion”
Which is a perfectly reasonable response.
I mean that's some of the beauty in art. People can have different interpretations of a story or visual piece that can give different perspectives on the art itself or the new topic they're connecting it to.
I'm not saying that every interpretation is a good one, because certainly there are a lot of weak connections people make.
@@newthrash1221 Because saying "its about being trans" is an absolute dumbshit way of wording it. But the premise was always about using a pill to become who you really are. "Waking up". Those themes weren't accidental. They might not have been intentionally making a trans movie, but they were making a movie about not being your true self, and how to get there. Which later we can see why they might have been interested in exploring those themes.
@@ERoBB1 that feels like a reach. it's more like take the blue pill and be ignorant but happy or take the red pill and fully expand your mind and "wakeup"
@@PalacEvphoria Uh huh, and what does "wake up" mean? Morpheus uses fairly literal language about "becoming who you actually are". Clearly they were writing about themes of not feeling like their true selves and what if someone could show you how to find yourself (with a literal pill). It's not a reach at all. Feels like a lot of people here have never encountered a metaphor. I assure you, they get vaguer and more complex than this one.
Nick is arguing something less like "death of the author" and more like "genocide of the author and also everyone else" lol
That’s when the movie is no longer about the plot and you can only watch it to admire the technical aspects, like the CGI, cinematography and soundtrack
When the movie came out, the Wachowskis were very open about it being a metaphor for Simulacra and Simulation by Jean Baudrillard. You can see the book on the shelf in one scene. It claims that society at large is no different than a simulation filled with copies without originals.
They literally changed the meaning of the movies after their transition.
If anything, its "Suicide of the Author" as they themselves killed the author
It's not death of the author when the metaphor wasn't even intended at the time. Also forget metaphors and themes, movies are kore fun when you can just enjoy them for being cool.
it’s amazing how much Nick knows about the movie yet doesn’t understand it, meanwhile Stav defends it like he understands it but doesn’t know the basic plot points of any of the movies.
absolutely incredible.
I think Nick understands it well enough. Adam too (allegory of the cave).
He's just against this forced narrativization of art, even when done by the original creators 20 years later. Part of the reason it was so popular is because it meant so many things to so many people. Creators coming out and saying "screw your perspective, here's the only true one" is just slapping the audience in the face. It is a valid one for them and many others, but it is just one of the many.
My thoughts too.

When Adam corrected Nick with “The Wachowskis”. That’s allyship.
Nonono, these boys didn’t catch it but a major revelation in in the trilogy was that the machines intentionally let humans live in Zion because they weren’t able to successfully run a persistent matrix.
Gotta agree with Nick. You can’t retcon a story to fit later assumed narratives. The same thing happened with J.K. Rowling and Harry Potter. She retconned the sexuality of several key characters that had no indication of being other than what they already were, to please sjw fans. Just because the bros became sisters, doesn’t mean the matrix is now about trans people. Fake, and gay.
And having paused this a few minutes in to comment, I now hear Nick point this exact situation out with Harry Potter. Very gay.
Google JK Rowling nazi uniform. Pretty cool huh?
Difference is that with Harry Potter she was changing an entire characters story and characteristics. With this, the Wachowskis are just saying that the movie can be read through a trans lens. Looking at the difference between how you perceive yourself inside and in reality, as well as the use of pills to reach your true body, a lot of stuff can be read as a trans allegory. That doesn’t mean Neo and Morpheus are all trans, it just means that the story and the trans experience share some elements.
@@ArielHal9000 I refuse to accept a retconned theory, posited 20 years after the series concluded. Even if the people retconning the series are the creators of the series.

Omg this is INCREDIBLE! a video of someone driving around (in GTA) listening to a podcast in general. Genius.
From my understanding, the directors only belatedly said The Matrix was about being trans AFTER they themselves recently transitioned. At the time it was made, it certainly wasn't about being trans and they never claimed that it was. So effectively, it is NOT a movie about being trans. The directors belatedly reframing a movie to suit their own contemporary beliefs or agendas is equally as worthless as any regular viewer doing so.
Clearly someone on this podcast took that to a dear heart
@@ciupenhauer - Sorry, what?

I recall learning the original plan for the character of Switch before either Wachowski had transitioned, so I believe there was some element of transgenderism within the original story, but I think it's absolutely insane for them to say the ENTIRE movie/series is about being trans. The making of the movie was very well documented and it's quite clearly/blatantly about man's dependence on and taking for granted of technology and natural resources, respectively.
Also that computers and anime are cool. The Wachowskis love them some PCs and japan cartoons.

@@F6LabsVideo it depends on how much faith you have in the Wachowskis I can believe the choice Neo faces was in some ways exploring a part of themselves they didn’t fully understand.
@@theduckymanvarietyshow4812 I don't think they were thinking about it 22 years ago. Whatever happens in their lives after the release of the film has no bearing on its meaning. They become simply viewers of the film just like everybody else. If they find commonalities between Neo's story and their subsequent trans journey, it's OK. That's their perspective. But it cheapens the movie incredibly to insist that everyone should accept this perspective as their own. Same with Voldemort being gay and David Chase saying Tony Soprano died in the final episode (he obviously did, and it's not very subtle, but people thinking it was a dream or that it means he has to look over his shoulder for the rest of his life are entitled to their opinion without the creator barging in and telling them what to think. If you wanted to do that, you should have written the script to reflect that. Which is what Chase realized when he got so annoyed by fan questioning that he blurted out that Tony died, only to backtrack when he understood his mistake).
@@Avengerie To give credit to the Wachowskis there was a trans caharacter in the original script that the studio forced them to remove so I can see some validity to their claim that it's a trans allegory. It's obviously not just a trans allegory though. I haven't heard of the Wachowskis dismissing other interpretations but if they have been then they're deluded frankly.
@@papapurepropaganda612 Didn't know about the trans character. Still, it's post-apocalyptic cyberpunk setting, so they might have just used it to spice the movie up. The smoking gun would have been if in one of the earlier drafts Neo was trans. even still, we're talking about the final movie with no trans characters, and this final movie is what people were basing their reading on.
As for whether they are dismissing other perspectives, I don't know. But when the creator speaks about the meaning without keeping the necessary distance from the subject matter (because they don't "own" it anymore, it is shared with everyone else who watched it), it's hard not to come out as being dismissive.
Man, Nick is great at impressions
