Hey, catching fish is enough. I almost need to go back and fish a lot of the water I already covered using the adjustments I made later in the day. I feel like I squandered some good opportunities by not really focusing on the deepest water and letting my jig bounce as deep as possible. I was getting a little impatient with all of the smaller fish activity during the morning. Oh well, I'll take it!

Eventually, if you go far enough downstream to the gauging station the trail gets fairly close to the river. I haven't fished upstream from the bridge yet. It looks like you can park and fish a lot closer. Hope you get some action.

Fishing rivers I use 6lb mono pretty much all of the time on a ultra light action 5 foot Ugly Stik. If you go to my fishing tips playlist I have multiple clips detailing the various types of tackle I use and how I rig up. The only time I use line heavier than 6lb mono is when I fish Lake Tahoe. I use 8lb mono with a 6lb mono leader. The heavier line helps to deal with the giant boulders my line gets raked over when I'm battling big trout on my ultra light rod. You can check out some of that action on my Lake Tahoe shore fishing playlist if you are interested. You probably are aware of this but just in case, my playlists can be accessed on my channel homepage. I have a ton to watch on there!

I have fished the east fork of the Carson river a lot. A few things to note, going farther up towards Ebbits Pass (hwy.4), California stocks the river with the usual 10 to 14 inch hatchery fish but Alpine County stocks it with the Trophy's he hooked into. They also do this on the west fork along hwy. 88.
Also print or get a copy of California's special fishing regulations by body of water. From where he started fishing down river to the Nevada border it is artificial lure, barbless hook, zero keep (later correction, You may keep 2 over 14 inches). From that rest area/bridge, up river, bate is OK.
Because of the wild fires and fuel prices I haven't fished the Carson since 2020 so some of the rules may have changed.
One more thing I've noted about the Sierra lakes and rivers, the bite seems to turn on at about 11 AM. and shuts down at about 1 PM. Don't know why the fish start biting when the sun is at it's highest point but they do.

    • @wildernesswithamani1027
      @wildernesswithamani1027  Год назад

The regs have changed I believe. I always fish rivers artificial/barbless/catch and release so as long as the water is open I'm good to go.

@@wildernesswithamani1027:I decided to look it up. On page 58 under special regulations, paraphrasing here, East Fork Carson River from Hangman's Bridge to the Nevada border, you may keep 2 hatchery fish over 14" artificial lure only, open year around.
Above Carson Falls and tributaries closed all year.
There are no special regulations above Hangman's Bridge to the falls so the rules for the Sierra District apply. These rules are good through 12-31-'22

Both east and west carson rivers are artificial lures only ?

I strongly recommend confirming all fishing regulations from official sources. With that said, it is my understanding that the East Carson is artificial all year and the West Carson is under general regulations. Again, best to get the info from the Regulation guide online. Page 55 or 56 is where the chart for special regulation trout water is and 5.85 is the section that spells out why many rivers are now open year round with stricter regulations during the off season. Good luck.

You need the newer “go pro start/stop recording” voice command

Sounds great. All of my budget now is for creating content. Fancy new tech is way down the list of things I need and could possibly afford. I use a gopro hero 5 for everything and I have another older one that doesn't work so well but I keep as a backup. Is what it is.

I didn't even know it had it! That's the first time I had a screw up like that since I ditched the external Mic a year ago. It was bad but at least I got the fish! No fish, that's a tough story to tell!

    • @wildernesswithamani1027

Rod tips snapping, reel handles breaking, running my pole over, you name it! The reason my fly rod is made up of two different backpacking rods put together is because I snapped the tip off of one in my car door over a year ago! If we have fished long and often enough, most of us have been there. Thanks for weighing in.

Good thing for you there are channels you can watch where the main dude doesn't talk too much and ramble. This channel is what it is. If you don't like this I wouldn't waste my time wading through the hundreds of videos across my channel playlists. A lot of talking and rambling! No scripts, I just hit record and start going on!
