    Just finished up some late season fly fishing on the East Fork Carson in October and WOW, what a trip! A 25, 20, and 18 inch rainbows along with many 12-16 inch were caught in about 5-6 hours of fishing. Great fishing, great scenery, great temps. Couldn't ask for better.

    I love the Eastern Sierra. Magnificent scenery and where I first caught a trout as a kid! My favorite thing about this channel is it is more fishing than catching. Which is how it "reely" is!

      What a place to get started, I didn't have the those opportunities when I was a small fry. I just kind of mucked around on my own fishing in the ocean.
      I had to show more of the struggle in this video because it really did take me a while to figure where the fish were holding. It's always part of the fun.

      I'd love to come back and fish all of these rivers again when the flows are back up where they normally are. We had success everywhere, but I can see how things would improve with more water.

    Dude. Come on. We get that you’re exploring and learning to fly fish, but this? You and your buddy Jer should know this section of water is way too low to fish. Just because the temperature is “healthy” doesn’t mean it’s okay to hit the water. You need to be an educated advocate for our fisheries if you’re going to broadcast your excursions. The fish are stressed out enough as it is in this section-stacked up and fighting for holding water. We’re all about catching fish and having a good time. And your videos are super pretty. But if you’re gunna burn spots, put a little more thought behind the burn.

    • @driftstone
      @driftstone 3 года назад

      Oh, thank you anonymous internet person, I'll really take all of that to heart! If you can show me research showing how low water AND cold temps stresses fish, I'll listen. There isn't any. It's about oxygen and food and the biggest factor affecting both of those things is water temperature. So while we're at it, why don't you go and educate yourself and advocate in ways that actually matter for our waters. As far as I know, I'm the only youtuber who talks about water temps on a regular basis.

    • @BigDoeJ424
      @BigDoeJ424 3 года назад

      Yea please elaborate. Overnight temps have been in the teens up there and flows are at 50cfs. Seems very fishable to me.

    • @driftstone
      @driftstone 3 года назад

      To go a little deeper about this discussion and add some more nuance. I went and looked at the historical averages. This time of year, the average flows are approx 60 CFS and I was wrong in the video, the flows were over 40cfs while I was there. So they are sitting at about 66% of average.
      Compared to the Truckee that just went down to 50CFS yesterday, an argument could be made to stay off that river. It's average for this time of year is 350CFS. It's at 15% of average!
      I use Dreamflows to lookup flows because it aggregates the different agencies together. Truckee averages -> www.dreamflows.com/graphs/avg.426.php
      Honestly, what percentage below average is too low?
