    Thank You Amani, The fishing videos you have of fishing Lake Tahoe have given me new hope for catching nice rainbows from the shoreline. In the mid 1980's I hired a guide out of Tahoe City to fish for those rainbows from a boat. I live in Oregon and drove down for that fishing trip. So full of hope for catching and eating one of those rainbows. But was deceived after I got there and the guide had other customers on a small charter boat and we fished for Lake Trout instead of rainbows. Not my choice nor what the guide service had been telling me before I came. I tried from the shore the following day but no luck. You have taught me that rainbows from the shore there are possible. I'm 78 now and not sure I could make it down those slopes. But I sure enjoy watching you fish there and catch those beautiful fish.
    Your videos are quality in clearness and color...what is the camera you use?

      Sounds like a bait and switch to me! Those are some of the best tasting rainbows I've ever had and I've had a lot! If you want to see exactly how I rig up, I have a couple of clips that detail it on my fishing tips playlist. For Lake Tahoe, I increase the slip sinker to 1/2 OZ and shorten my Nightcrawler leader to allow for farther casting. I just posted a clip where I got two lake trout from shore yesterday! All you need is to get to the water's edge and you have a shot if you can get to water that's over 10 feet deep. I also have a number of clips on my Alpine Lakes and lakes and reservoir playlists that can give you other fishing options in the area that you can drive or hike to so next time you are down this way you can enjoy diversity in your targets. Come when the weather is ranging from cool to cold. It's all waiting for you.

The set up you show and use is one I have used for a long time. For the past 22 years we take our trailer to Bishop for the month of October and mainly fish the surrounding areas. I have fished at Icehouse lake above you dozens of times over the decades. I have a bunch of Lake Tahoe clips on my reservoir and Lakes playlist and I also have other lakes in the area on there as well should you decide to expand your strike zone! I always recommend viewers confirm regulations for themselves, but it is my understanding that either State License is good anywhere on the lake with public access so all of the areas I have clips for should be on the Menu. The beach off the 89 is the easiest but I'm sure it will be crawling with people any day now. Every other spot I have been to has large boulders inside and out of the water. Basically, find yourself at least 15 feet of water, get out there at the crack of dawn, be prepared to cast far, and if you are reeling in hold your rod over your head and reel fast without hesitation or you will get snagged! If you are interested as to how I rig up, I have a couple of clips on my fishing tips playlist that go into detail. I go into the adjustments I make to my set up for lake Tahoe at the end of this clip. Thanks for subscribing. Glad to have you. I'm just getting started!

That's when I get most of the fish in my Lake Tahoe videos that are up on my channel. If you go to my trout fishing tips playlist, my clips "rigging up for reservoir trout" and "My general technique for deep water reservoir trout" both have overlapping information and go into detail about how I rig up for bait fishing from shore. I talk about the adjustments I make for Lake Tahoe at the end of this video. My clip "How I choose sinkers" could also be valuable. • @wildernesswithamani1027
      @wildernesswithamani1027 3 года назад

      Apparently, they are feasting on them! I have found them in several trout I've kept on this side of the lake. I'm sure crawdads would work but I don't think I'm down for coming up with a creative way to keep them off the bottom. On the bottom, I figure other crayfish would pull them into the rocks. Not being able to fish from shore is a myth! If you are just going to throw lures, I suggest you find at least 15 feet of water or more and get out there at the crack of dawn. A lot of people I've talked to like to throw spoons because you can really get them out there and everything big will hit them. I am going to try 1/8 OZ-1/2 OZ at some point myself. get to the shore with public access and give it a shot. Most of my Tahoe clips on my Lakes and Reservoir playlist are instances where I just get down to the water without knowing what will be there. I always recommend checking regulations for yourself but it is my understanding that either state license is good on the lake so your options are wide open. If you have the time, a day of scouting might not be the worst thing. I hope you hit something huge! Good luck!

    Got a plan for if you get a strike on the other pole while you are hooked up?
    Could put the other rod in free spool as soon as you get a solid hook set.
    A rope with anchor like looped around a boulder and clipped to the rod could let a second fish swim around while you fight the first one.
    Had to deal with dual trolling strikes in a strong wind next to kelp by myself and it gets hectic.
    Those are the kind of problems I like.

      My plan is a rod in each hand and I tuck one under my arm while I'm reeling in the other. I've done this successfully a number of times. I call it the double header. Never had to do it with more than one large trout But I could figure it out. Worst case, I could loosen the drag on one and stick it back in the rod holder while I fought the other one. Alternate the two until I get one in the net and then concentrate on the other.

Spots like this and the rocks fish off the Chimney Beach area get a lot of traffic but you can usually find a nice spot to chill alone because it's hard to get around down there so people aren't just walking by. how long was your leader fishing power bait off bottom?

    • @wildernesswithamani1027
      @wildernesswithamani1027 3 года назад

      My leader for powerbait was probably nearly 4 feet. My full night crawler leader probably 2 and a half feet. I up the slip sinker to 1/2 OZ so I could launch it.

    Are you using a size 18 for just the PowerBait, or for the worms as well? 18 is tiiiny, I'd imagine you'd have a hard time keeping a worm on there, but if it works for you, I'm willing to try it. Keep getting skunked at Cave Rock after crushing it all last summer, so I'll take all the help I can get! 🤣

    • @wildernesswithamani1027
      @wildernesswithamani1027 3 года назад +1

      Just for the powerbait. Size 18 treble hook. You will lose some big fish on that tiny hook and it is often clinging to the outside of the mouth by the time you get it in but it allows me to release a lot of fish safely. I also think the small ball of powerbait makes a difference when it comes to getting larger fish to bite. I was using size 6 baitholder hooks for the full crawlers which were actually a little small because the worms were so big.

    Dude this was crazy! If you haven’t already, can you make a video on how to set up your rod and leader? (Or just explain) Sounds like this was power bait? From what I’m getting you need to get that to the bottom with sinkers and such. I’ll be taking my 3 year old to Frenchman’s or Davis this Sunday. I’d love to get her baby fishing rod on a fish. She would be so excited. Love the content buddy thanks
    *I wrote this after the 16 min mark. Sorry bud. But still not sure how to set up leaders and such on a spinner rod.

Big trout in Davis. Got that big one a week or so ago. There is a clip up. Catch some fish. Good Luck. Kid will cherrish that moment for a lifetime!

    What happened to your first fish when your video cut and your net moved?

    • @wildernesswithamani1027
      @wildernesswithamani1027 3 года назад +1

      I cut as much to streamline the videos as much as possible. When I release fish, I typically don't show the few minutes I let them sit in the water and rest up from the long fight. Not sure if that's what you are referring to. My goal is to typically cut half of the time from the raw footage. Most of it is dialogue.

    • @wildernesswithamani1027
      @wildernesswithamani1027 3 года назад

      This was roughly 2 weeks ago. Basically, all of the Lake Tahoe clips on my lakes and reservoirs playlist were shot when the weather was cool and the Summer crowds hadn't arrived or had already cleared out. I also hit the lake as early as I can get out there, preferably around first light. You can see how I rig up on my fishing tips playlist on my clip 'rigging up for reservoir trout'. For Lake Tahoe I increase my sinker to 1/2 OZ and shorten my leaders as needed to cast far out to reach deeper water. My experience has shown me that if I can find at least 10-15 feet of water and get out there before the sun is high in the sky I can usually get something. Hope that helps.

    I heard there are no venomous snakes around Lake Tahoe. Is that true ?

    • @wildernesswithamani1027
      @wildernesswithamani1027 3 года назад

      No. Rattlesnakes are found throughout the Sierra Nevada and foothills so they can definitely be around Lake Tahoe and you should be watching out when the weather warms. The official range of rattlesnakes is said to extend up to 11k feet but I have not seen them above 8K feet. The highest I have encountered them is twice at Lake Vernon in Yosemite, which is roughly a little higher in elevation than Lake Tahoe, and once in Kings Canyon National Park a little below 8K in elevation. Once you get above 6k feet, the higher you go, the less likely it seems you will encounter one but if you get bit you are screwed. I have a lot of experience encountering rattlesnakes and they are scary. My advice, always be looking! If you are interested, I have a clip about rattlesnakes on my outdoor safety playlist. It is my opinion that anyone who claims there are no venomous snakes around Lake Tahoe has no idea of what they are talking about! Don't be afraid but stay alert.

    Wait a moment, why such small hook?

    • @wildernesswithamani1027
      @wildernesswithamani1027 3 года назад

      I use size 4-8 baitholder hooks, mostly use the 6, for the full crawlers but I use a tiny size 18 treble hook for power bait. The tiny hook often barely hooks the larger fish which gives me the option of letting some go but I also believe the smaller ball of power bait is more appealing to larger trout. I will say that you will lose some larger trout using threat tiny thing! Sometimes I think I can feel the tiny hook dislodging and then re-hooking larger fish as it is being pulled out of the fish's mouth during the fight!

    • @wildernesswithamani1027

      No, I just climbed down to the lake from the road. I have found that if you can find a spot to fish with reasonably deep water that can be reached with a long cast it's usually pretty good. The boulders underwater are always a challenge nearly everywhere. Reel in fast when you are checking your bait!

      Me too! I fished all around Lake Tahoe for decades but never tried fishing in the Lake itself until last June. I have a number of clips up on my reservoirs and lakes playlist for Lake Tahoe and I have caught nice fish in nearly all of them. I usually hit it when the water is cold and the summer crowds haven't arrived yet. Be ready to cast out far and deal with large boulders inside and out of the water. If you can find around 15 feet of water or deeper to fish you are in good shape. If you are interested in how I rig up for bait fishing for shore you can find that on my fishing tips playlist.

    Nice fish! are you able to send me the coordinates of that location?

    • @wildernesswithamani1027
      @wildernesswithamani1027 Год назад

      I don't know the coordinates. It's off the hwy 28 near Sand Harbor. Coordinates won't catch you fish. Keep it simple is my advice. My experience is, find at least 10 feet of water during the cold months and at least 20 feet of water during the warmer months that has public access and give it a shot. That's how I find all of the spots on my Tahoe shore fishing playlist. All of the details of how I rig up can be found on my fishing tips playlist. I look for boulders where large trout will be feeding on crawdads and minnows and cast out. There are fish everywhere in the lake if it's deep enough.

      It's just a mile or so up the road from Sand Harbor. Chimney beach area has pretty good fishing as well. I have several clips for that area on my Tahoe fishing playlist. I typically go down towards the lake and then go left, heading away from the actual Chimney Beach.@@PeaksandValleys_

    Just so you know there's a brown trout hole as you're traveling down 50 right through the tunnel at cave Rock not where the lunch ramp is but the other side right where the turnout is walk straight down there and you can catch 5 lb brown trout from the shore. Use a worm and a marshmallow.
