  • Playing some progressive house using only the Moog One 16 voice for drums, bass, and synth leads. I'll break down the jam in a follow-up video and probably just talk and talk and talk - as I do.

    Perfect Circuit reached out to me, and I was exceedingly flattered, humbled, and surprised. I have been a fan for a long time and have purchased gear from them many times in the past. I think they are just great, and I even happened to FINALLY get to stop by their shop when I was in LA for a wedding this past summer, which was SOOOO FUN. I thought about the offer for a few months, and finally decided to do it, because it will help direct people to a store I love, and it will help me to buy things like a better camera, lights, etc. that I am discovering are quite necessary to produce really good content. My gear probably won't change that much - that's not really my style, if you haven't noticed - and I don't really see myself trying to get into the review game or make a living off of this stuff. So, I highly doubt you'll see me making videos "reviewing" the latest music doodad. But yeah, this got long... I'm at peace with that. So, basically, if you are planning to buy some gear, this is a cool way to keep a dope synth shop going and maybe get me a better camera along the way. If you are against affiliate link stuff, but you still plan to buy some gear, please do it from one of my other favorite stores; I won't be offended and still think you are awesome :D

As a former apartment dweller with nice gear I just thought I would remind you to buy insurance on your stuff. Anyway, hope to hear lots more.

    I’m looking at getting a One next week but I can only find an 8 voice. It’s not my only synth. Got a Polybrute, grandmother, DFaM, mother 32: pro 3 se and Prophet 10 too so not sure I need 16 voices…l I know I’ll not be able to take full advantage of tri-timbrality but I like to get all my synths going in live jams….. Is yours. 16 voice?

    • @dimund
      @dimund  Год назад +1

      Yes, I have the 16 voice, and I would strongly recommend getting 16 vs 8 - even if it means waiting. I use up 16 voices pretty quickly. If it were bi-timbral, I’d say 8 would be fine, but 8 on a tri-timbral synth seems incredible limiting, in my opinion. Truthfully, I don’t think they should have even released an 8 voice version, but I appreciate that they were trying to make it more affordable.

    • @final_mile_music9713
      @final_mile_music9713 Год назад +1

      @@dimund good advice. I’m seriously tempted by the OB-X8 tbh. I’ve already got the Polybrute for modern analog timbres. And the Prophet @0 for vintage but wonder if there will be too much crossover….. Or a used Moog One 16. ;)

    • @dimund
      @dimund  Год назад +1

      You can’t go wrong with either, but they are super different. The OB is definitely a sweet spot synth with not a ton of flexibility in terms of its character - changing the osc and filter types - but less in terms of modulation. The One is the exact opposite. It still has a sonic character that I think sounds fantastic, but it’s not a voice that I think I would be able to pick out and be like, “that’s a Moog One.” It definitely sounds like a Moog, but it doesn’t have a signature sound like the Matriarch or the OB-X8. That lack of a signature voice is the trade off for the endless flexibility that it has, but then again, I like that the Moog One sounds so different depending on who is using it. It feels like I can express my aesthetic more than on a synth that always sounds a certain way. It’s like a high quality canvas and paintbrush, but you have to supply the colors.
      TLDR: Moog One sounds like a Moog and has tons of power to shape sound in whatever way you can imagine with the downside of requiring more user knowledge. The OB-X8 will always sound like an Oberheim and the sweet spot will be much easier to find, but it will have a more limited range of sounds it can create due to the limited modulation capabilities.

    • @final_mile_music9713
      @final_mile_music9713 Год назад +1

      @@dimund Spot on. While I love the OBX8, like the Prophet 10, it will always sound like one. I had to let me Matriarch go a while ago. But then I missed it so I got a Grandmother and Moog sound studio for THAT sound. The semi modular set up is just a different creative jumping off point. Depends how I feel. The P10 is just an instant gratification instrument for playing. It’s my synth equivalent of a piano. I just sit and play. The Polybrute, is lovely and expressive. I’d probably have to sell it for a One, but then the One would do pretty much everything it can do and more. I think I’ll order a One 16. Not likely to arrive until the spring of ever though. I think they are having to replace some silicon they can’t source anymore and redesign it a little to compensate. That might be a risk. Not sure.

    • @dimund
      @dimund  Год назад +1

      I think the polybrute is a great synth, but I would be surprised if you missed it after you got the One. Definitely get the 16 voice, and I’m sure whatever components they decide on will be solid :)
