Robert Patrick's audition for the T-1000 was just 5 minutes of him staring menacingly into the camera. He was also a track star in school and he ended up outrunning John on his motorbike and had to slow down for the scene. He trained himself to breathe through his nose while sprinting, reasoning that a killer robot wouldn't need to be gasping for air like a human, and also trained himself to not blink while firing pistols and to reload without looking, for the same reason, robotic facade.
Though Patrick did in fact blink one time during the magazine reload in the mall hallway. Right after putting the new magazine in, he blinked, if I remember correctly. Just once, though. They left it in.
Yup, a far as I am concern with what Robert Patrick brought to the role of the T1000, out of all the other Terminators other than the T800, Model 101, Robert Patrick is the only person that out Terminate the very most, and the very least, match, Arnold Schwarzenegger.
If he was a track star in school he shouldn't have had to train to hold his breath for the part of the terminator. He would already know how to do that seeing as though sprinters are taught to hold their breath for the first 50m of a race. It should've come naturally to him.
The thing that made Miles Dyson's death so horribly realistic is that the actor, Joe Morton, knew what it was like to suffer a collapsed/punctured lung from a past accident. He really sold that agony.
What would have made this film perfect would be if he wasnt so aggressive and menacing before the twist where you find out arnold is the good guy. Even people unaware of the twist assume that they are both bad guys lol. They should have kept roberts terminator more chill at the start when he warps in.
A cool little detail that is often overlooked - because the special and practical effects of this movie take the most attention - is how well Arnold and Robert Patrick portray a very mechanical fight during the climax. No words are exchanged between the two, nor does either actor even make a single vocal sound. Their fight is so well choreographed that it even helps create the illusion neither is even taking breaths as they throw down, because both are machines and don't run on oxygen.
The choreo for their different hand to hand styles and the use of T1000's morphing in the fight is top notch. And the way T1000 not only outfights, but out-thinks the T101 - using elements of the factory to his advantage - shows it really is a superior model. It makes the heroic return all the sweeter.
@@LordVolkov I'd like to point out that Arnold is a T-800 series Terminator, not a 101. He's MODEL 101. His line "That was a different T-101" from Terminator 3 was an error they never bothered fixing. The correct line should have been "That was a different Model 101." Basically the T-800 series Terminators were the ones that had living tissue over a metal endoskeleton. There were numerous models made in the series, each with a different appearance. The 101 model is the one that looks like Arnold Schwarzenegger. We saw a different model T-800 in the 1st film, in a dream/flashback to 2029, where a Terminator infiltrated a human hideout and began attacking once it was compromised by the dogs they had on hand (canines can sniff out Terminators). As an aside, the Terminator in the 3rd film was actually a T-850, technically still in the same series, but with some improvements like a hardened chassis. It still had the same model 101 appearance as the first two T-800s, however.
The scary thing about Sarah's dream sequence is that apparently it is an accurate depiction of what a thermonuclear attack would be like. I'll take ground zero over being ten miles away thanks.
Ground Zero is a splitsecond and you're gone. 10 miles away? you're still gonna die, but most likely you get to suffer either self-igniting and roasting to deatn ,or if even more unlucky, you're safe from the blastwave's effect and the deathfireball... and just get insane radiation poisoning.
My mom and I saw this opening night. One of my best memories with my mom. The theater was packed, during the scene where Arnold terminator was mostly dead some guy yelled out, "All those who believe in the Terminator clap your hands! Arnold's eye slowly turned on and the crowd erupted!
I went on a quiet Wednesday afternoon knowing it's the best quiet time, I had the entire theatre almost to myself, sat right in the middle of the THX sound system.
Linda Hamilton get well deserved credit for the physical transformation she made and becoming a badass. But for me the best part of this movie was her emotional roller coaster. She clearly has some sort of PTSD, but overcomes her fear for John, but then she slowly slips into becoming her own worst fear. When she goes to kill Dyson and John stops her she has a breakdown because she realizes she has become a terminator. She is willing to kill to change the future. At the same time the terminator is learning to become human. Nice arc for them.

The stunt work in this film is absolutely incredible. The scene where the helicopter flies under the bridge was so dangerous all the cameramen refused to shoot it. So James Cameron picked up a camera and personally shot the scene himself. Not only did he shoot the scene, he did it twice so he could get a shot in front the of the helicopter and one from behind.
Awesome there's suddenly all these T2 reaction videos - one of the best sci-fi films ever made. Powerful, I remember watching it dozens of times in the 90s when it first came out - still a top 3 film of all time in my book. T1 was a fun horror sci-fi and T2 became a masterpiece of action-hero adventure drama sci-fi, maybe more thriller than horror vibes.
T2 is just a perfect ending. It's one of the few movies that made me cry. First time I saw it was around '98 on VHS. Not all reactors pick up on it but the scene where the two kids are fighting and the Terminator says "it's in your nature to destroy yourself" hit deep as a kid. The Terminator became more human throughout the film, even developing humor ("I need a vacation") and his own smile (btw, more goes into this in the directors cut with more scenes). When he said, "I know now why you cry, but it's something I can never do", hit me in the feels and the thumbs up finished me.
Stan Winston Studios just put out a RUclips video all about how they did the visual effects for the T-1000 the other day. Also, the Director's Cut of the film has some REALLY impressive visual effects shots that aren't in the shorter theatrical cut. You'll probably enjoy checking that out on your own at some point given how much you enjoyed this. I think I saw that. The thing that impressed me most were the practical gunshot "wounds" appearing on the T-1000, spring loaded foil thingies. The video I saw had behind-the-scenes demonstrations of them triggering them, and they look good, with no computers harmed.
Gotta clear up some semantics, because James Cameron has said multiple times that the theatrical cut is his director's cut. He also chose the theatrical cut to get the 3D re-release in theatres. Please refer to it as either the Ultimate Edition if it has the alternate ending or the Extended Edition without the alternate ending.
Wow! I didn't actually realize how much of the T-1000 was puppets. The amount of ingenuity required before CGI took over is really impressive. The bullet hole mechanisms are pretty amazing.
@@JakobBerry Yeah, for sure. Once one knows the whole story, you can watch the movie and pick out which shots were done practically versus CGI, but holy shit... they did the work! I swear in 1991, on the big screen, it was all completely convincing (of course we all knew the thing as a whole was fiction).
The transformation of Sarah Conner from how she was when the first movie started and how she was during the time of this move, is one of the best character developments with no so many words, ever done in cinema. Amazing story arc. She earned her strength. PS: YOU are an amazing reactor!
Sarah Connor is probably my favorite character arch in all of sci fi. From a typical everyday woman waiting tables, to finding her inner strength at the end of that film, to a total badass in this one, as well as a vulnerable mother in the scene where she tries to kill Dyson and can't, and finally someone who is able to find hope in all she's witnessed. Like you said at 37:49 regarding the kinds of characters you like, Sarah Connor is a prime example of how to do it right. She's also one of the reasons I roll my eyes whenever people claim scifi fans are misogynists for being critical of some modern, poorly written, female characters. The people that claim that have to be oblivious to classics like this movie, Alien, Star Wars, Star Trek, etc. Scfi fans love great female characters. We just don't like poorly written ones that are just vehicle pieces for some kind of social messaging. We don't like to be treated like children being read some kind of nursery-rhyme/morality fable. Give us good characters and we'll celebrate them. We've been doing it for decades now.
Sarah Connor is one of the women I class as action heroes, not heroines. Like male counterparts, she relies on martial training, physical strength, and direct confrontation rather than her "feminine wiles" and deception. Others on the list include Buffy Summers (especially SMG's version), Ellen Ripley, and Katee Sackhoff's Starbuck. In written fiction, Elizabeth Moon writes similar roles, particularly Paks from The Deed of Paksenarrion and Ky Vatta from Vatta's War. Tanya Huff's main character, Master Sergeant Torin Kerr, in the Confederation novels is another.
Seeing Sarah react to the Terminator walk out of the elevator, (when I'm writing this comment) is meant to drive home so much to us the audience. This woman trained her son to face a nightmare that she even today may not fully think is real and prays to God never is, the man she loved mostly died in her arms with her telling him "GET UP SOLDIER," the last thing she'd ever say to him. And it meant EVERYTHING to him. If those of us outside of class haven't yet seen how impactful this is meant to be, I'm glad that explanation isn't an equation to experience, depending on the side of the flip we land. Sarah's "mother allegory" is .... forgive me, quite genuinely "timeless." ....moonlitegram, have you ever watched the Sarah Connor Chronicles? I'm asking only because some folk don't know it exists, and the rest expect it to the the typical disrespectful drivel.
In my opinion Sarah Connor is the epitome of strong *female* character. She is the quintessential mother figure; every mother bears the child of the future. To each mom their son is the hero who will save humanity. Sarah Connor exemplifies this reality perfectly
The T1000 didn't go into the floor, he spread himself thinly across the top. Robert Patrick is one of the greatest villains ever in this film. This film is almost 32 years old and it's STILL better than anything today. This was the first film to cost 100 million dollars and it showed. This film revolutionised CGI in movies, and the T1000 effects used the very first version of motion capture, which is used regularly today in films like Cameron's own Avatar films. Great reaction to a legendary classic.

I just love your enthusiasm, how thoughtful your commentary is, and how you actually PAY ATTENTION to what you're watching -- you'd be surprised how many other reactors just natter endlessly over dialog and important scenes, it gets SO annoying!! The actor playing the orderly that licked Sara's face deserves a lot of credit. First of all, he was a nice guy so Linda Hamilton had to convince him that licking her was ok and important to the scene. Also, in a deleted scene, he was supposed to hit her in the stomach with a nightstick but was so worried about hurting her that he would blow the takes by not doing it hard enough. Then, when Sara breaks out of her room, she hits him in the face with a broom handle for real.
Personally I understand the actor, to me it would be much harder and braver to lick than to be licked. That's why I give props to actors like Antony Starr (Homelander) who find such scenes as amusing.
The thumbs up at the end really seals the deal for the emotional aspect of the film. This is literally a perfect film because of that last sequence. I saw the movie posters at the theatre as a kid and it look so awesome even before I could even see it and it was so worth the wait when I got older. Epic Epic Epic film. Hats off to Jim Cameron.

There sure are a lot of fragile people these days. Drug overdoses and suicide rates are increasing rapidly. It seems like some time around the mid 80s our methods of child rearing and education started to move in counter productive directions. This has resulted in more unhappy people. Hopefully as a society we'll reverse these trends in time to avoid catastrophe. And hopefully you two find ways to tap the inner strength that I believe all people possess deep inside.
Ive seen so many t2 reaction videos up to this point and this video is easily one of the best compared to all others. Big insights and interest in the movies themes and acting. I gotta say, im quite impressed due to your (presumed) young age. Keep it up and youll get bigger and bigger crowd. Huge cred.
I would agree, except for when she states, incorrectly. that the T1000 got "into the linoleum". Bad take. The T1000 simply laid flat atop the floor and imitated the color and tile pattern, in order to sample the guard without him knowing it.
Fun fact: Yes, Arnold did have a stunt guy for that motorcycle jump. And the scene where he tears up the police cars with the huge "minigun" (it's only "mini" relative to the mounted aircraft guns it's adapted from) was supposed to be a stuntman as well. The gun relies on the explosion of the bullets to cycle that big rotating barrel, so even though it was loaded with "blanks" (i.e. no lethal bullets), the cartridges had to be powerful enough to spin the minigun as if they were the real thing, making the whole gun dangerous to fire in a couple of ways. The recoil from the supercharged blanks was also a massive force, even if it wasn't quite as powerful as firing live rounds. So when it came time to get that shot, it was deemed too dangerous to risk the star, and a stuntman was put in. But Arnold ultimately had to do that scene himself, because he was the only one on set who was strong enough to lift the gun and control it safely while it was firing. A lot of the movie is clever trickery-groundbreaking CGI, but also some very clever practical effects. But some things, like those muscles, you can't fake.
Sorry but that about the blanks 'driving' the rotation of the minigun is BS, it is driven by an electric motor to start rotate when the trigger is started to being pressed (2-phase-trigger), otherwise it would not fire at the same rate the whole time but need to speed up first .. which it does with the electric motor. Now that it had to use larger than usual charges for blanks i could believe, as the cycling rate (firing - ejecting shell - feeding next cartridge) is extremely high and especially the ejection of the spent shells needs to be assured ... so yeah, possible.
I completely agree with your statement at the start, as it is very rare when a sequel can out perform the original, but this is for sure one of those times. James Cameron does it again in regards to Alien/Aliens, but he wasn't really involved in the first movie, but he sure as hell put his stamp on the 2nd one. So add those two movies to your watch list if you haven't seen them already, you won't be disappointed.
Great edit!!! One of the best scenes in the movie is the one in which the disbelieving psychologist sees the terminator go through the bars, which makes him drop the hypo cap out of his mouth. I can't tell you how many reactors cut that scene out, which is disappointing. So GREAT JOB leaving that in because it feels so good to see it. :)

YESSSS! I knew you'd love this movie, and I love even more that you appreciate Sarah for being a fully-realized character. In that line, I'll paste my comment from another recent reaction to this movie: This movie was SO ahead of its time, in SO many ways. Of course the FX stand up -- the Corridor Crew VFX RUclips channel tried to re-create the jailbreak scene where the T-1000 walked through the barred door... and they couldn't do it. The original artists literally wrote their own mathematical code JUST for that scene alone. Custom built math for a few seconds that would stick in your brain for a lifetime. Legends. But aside from all that, they had a great scientist who happened to be black, and a strong female character who was not a "strong female character" in the modern sense. Dyson was a believable scientist and a caring father, not a Steve Jobs god-like figure or a Musk-like salesman. Nor was the movie winking at you the whole time to say, "See? And he's black!!". They normalized the casting, as it should be. Kids of all backgrounds can look at Dyson as a kind of inspiration (unintended apocalypse aside). And Joe Morton played him so well, we all felt sick when he didn't make it. And Sarah wasn't a perfect goddess, either. She had depth. She had character. She's someone that people can genuinely aspire to be like. She was more mentor than mother (a break from type as a Hollywood leading lady), and that made sense given all her struggles and limited time with John. She expands everyone's ideas of women's possible roles in society, and couches it with believable psychology reacting to extraordinary circumstances. And yeah, she felt like a terminator for a moment, when she was going after Dyson. Her line at the end of the movie about people being able to "value human life" -- that was her, acknowledging her own growth. Sarah Connor isn't just an icon because of her gender, she's an icon because of how compelling she is, both in the script and on the screen. Legend. Yes. Probably the best movie ever.
The Robert Patrick bars' passthrough in the asylum was programmed in a computer trying to simulate liquid's mechanics, it is an algorithmic effect. Modern computer power now is enough to perfect it but you'll need engineers, it is very difficult by any artistic's means.
@ When the Corridor Crew guys attempted it, they split up and tried two different methods. I think they both used pre-packaged modules for flow effects, but the effects weren't meant to re-glob something into a single object again, so the guys did their best to wing it... to mixed results.
“A terminator can learn the value of human life, maybe we can too” I watched both terminators in the movie theaters and that line by Sarah Conner changed my life and thinking forever. It’s my #1 favorite movie ever. The message they send about humanity at the end is simply unbeatable. Linda Hamilton does the best acting job ever. Crying 😭on film is practically impossible to do and she does it perfectly. I wish she never married James Cameron because she has mega talent. It held back her acting.career. Oscar winning performance in both terminators. She’s a beast
I love, LOVE that original studio ending. To me, there are some really important shots and scenes in the Director's Cut that I'm sad weren't here: the point where they actually reset the Terminator's brain so that he can learn to be more human, and the point where the T-1000 gives himself away as the fake Sarah Connor when his feet start glitching out. But this ending is so much better, and so superior, to the "happy" Director's Cut ending, which as we approach 2029 doesn't hold up as it's not the future we're likely to get. To me, there's something beautiful about Sarah's worry and uncertainty as 1997 approaches. She doesn't know whether their heroism actually prevented Judgment Day or not. For us, 1997 came and went with no nuclear holocaust. That makes it very easy to suspend disbelief and just say that they succeeded after all.

Yeah I just watched the directors cut of Commando. The directors cut is always super kick ass. Yeah the message about human life and it’s importance on every level is what makes not only the second terminator better for me but the emotions are running higher with her son in it. Movies can only be 2 hours max to me or it becomes overkill. Wish they could put all the scenes they couldn’t fit into the original but its so good to the point that even without them this movie is #1 I’ll never forget walking out of the movie theaters a different person. It blew my mind and up until that point I’d seen dozens and dozens of films in the theaters but terminator 2 just made me think and appreciate life and other humans more. A fictional movie can make you think and feel differently forever. Now that’s talent man!!! Directors cuts are amazing I agree with that. 👍
Totally agree that she's an underrated, very talented actress, but what held back her acting career was bipolar disorder, violent mood swings and waves of suicidal depression. She said it ruined both of her marriages.

It's fantastic you were able to go into this movie without any spoilers. It's a brilliant piece of writing / directing early in the film as the t-1000 and arnold are closing in on John Connor. Until the shootout in the mall hallway, you don't know who is the good terminator and who is the bad. Automatically you'd think arnold is bad because he was the terminator in the first movie, and the other guy is a clean cut cop. Unfortunately, the trailers for the film, advertising it before release date, spoiled this reveal.
As i was growing up with these "golden Age Action flicks" of the late 80's and 90's it is a delight to see young people enjoying these movies as i did. These laid the foundation to all the stuff that we see today. You still have so much movie gold ahead of you ! Almost getting envious to you getting to watch those movies for the first time.

Good job recognizing the police psychiatrist from the first movie, most don't or if they do they don't comment on it. And, you figured out the trivia about using twins on your own (also the guard who was killed by the floor was actually killed by his twin brother), but another fun thing is that Edward Furlong who played John basically hit puberty in the middle of filming and not only did he have a growth spurt, but his voice started changing and it caused all manner of problems making the movie.

Some of them are serviceable and some aren't even that, but there are so many other great movies out there to watch first!

You did well picking up on the negative vibes of the "human" protector. When the movie was coming out they dropped the big reveal bomb in the commercials so nobody got to be "surprised" when Arnold turned out to be the good guy. Your reactions are just a lot of fun. One of the three big CGI breakthrough movies of the '90s, along with "Jurassic Park" ('93) and "The Matrix" ('99). Sadly, they completely spoiled the would-be twist that Arnold was playing the "good" terminator back in the '90s before the movie hit the theaters. I didn't even consider it WAS a twist until I watched people reacting to T2 and they were surprised... then I thought "oh, i guess it WOULD be, if you didn't see all the trailers on tv ahead of time." Definitely the best in the series, it's full of James Cameron tropes done right. It put Sarah Connor on the short list of badass action movie heroines alongside Ellen Ripley. Linda Hamilton had a daughter with James Cameron a couple years after this movie, then they were briefly married for a couple years after that (her second marriage and his fourth, I think). Also, the role of John's foster mother was played by Jenette Goldstein, who also played the role of Vasquez in "Aliens" ('86) (another James Cameron movie). She was also in "Near Dark" ('87) alongside Lance Henriksen and Bill Paxton, who were also in "Aliens."
Linda and Leslie Hamilton aren't the only twins in this. The scene in which the T-1000 rose from the floor and copied the security guard before killing him was also accomplished with twins.
You watched the right version because as much as I love Terminator 2, the extended version drags along with unnecessary scenes. The one thing I would recommend is looking for the extended scene where they reset the chip in his head (they open his head up). You should look for that scene, they should have put that in the original version.
Search "Can we reset the switch? | Terminator 2: Judgment Day [Director's Cut]" on RUclips, They use a fake mirror with Linda's twin on the other side of the wall. "So they used a window in the wall instead of a mirror! Linda Hamilton and her twin sister are mimicking each other's movements to make it seem it's a mirror"
I remember another interesting bit is that Cameron specifically wanted someone whose head motions looked like those of an eagle; like when it spots prey. Robert Patrick nailed it!

"Well, that's the guy that was sent to protect him". --- I recently saw a behind the scenes / blooper reel of Terminator 2. The actiing and technique of Robert Patrick is awesome. And they had a great deal of fun while shooting. I think in every movie or TV show I've seen him since, there's always funny Terminator references. The Sarah shoots at and enters the home of Miles Dyson is a reenactment of the kills from the first Terminator movie, making her like the original Terminator in a way.
In the extended version there are scenes that help other parts make sense. In one scene they reset Arnold's chip so that he can learn more and better emulate people. It also shows the chip for the first time so you would recognize it when the 1st Terminator's damaged chip is shown.
Great reaction to a great movie. I love the different facets to John's relationship with Arnie. Sometimes Arnie is like John's new toy, sometimes he's like a father figure, and sometimes John is like Arnies big brother just looking out for him and teaching him. Overall, you said it right, roller-coaster. I think you're lucky to have these reactions for yourself to see when you're older. I wish I could see my own reaction to it when I saw it for the first time.
The movie sequels are devisive, but I think most fans would enjoy seeing you react to the TV series "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles." It's only two seasons, so it's not a huge commitment.
Glad you liked it - its a classic, a gem! cant even count the amount of times Ive seen this movie and I also enjoyed the extended cut with the additional footage ie Arnies head microchip being removed by Sarah and John, the dream sequence with Reece etc. ps they also used another pair of twins in this movie - the security guard that got spiked in the eye. And eventhough alot of ppl hated it I also liked T-Salvation at least it had the stones to go in a different direction rather than trying to rehash the same old story that had already been aced by T 1and 2, so when everyone complained about it (Salvation) they just went back to the same old formula and it stank!
I never get tired of watching people's reaction as they realize that Arnie is the good guy in this movie. Great job! I think you should watch T3 now. It's not quite as good as this one, but it's still good and it wraps up the trilogy, plus it has one of the best chase scenes ever filmed.
Too many continuity errors and too cheap to be actually good, but I would kiss 3 and Salvation on the face before I would be in the same city as Genysis and Derp Woke.
It's so interesting that you went into this blind. The trailer spoiled the fact that Arnold was the good guy, so it ruined the surprise. I was lucky enough to watch this in the theaters when I was a kid. I wish I could fully articulate just how insane those stunts and special effects were back then. It truly heralded the beginning of the 90's action movie genre. The director's commentary and behind the scenes production footage are definitely worth watching; there are so many cool little details that went into this. Linda Hamilton trained extensively for the movie; that one-armed reload scene at the end was added specifically because she'd become strong enough to do it. She also smacked that mental hospital orderly with the broom handle for real, because the actor kept on holding back and ruining previous takes. She also learned how to pick locks just for the escape scene. Arnold nearly broke his fingers when he tried doing that shotgun twirling trick and picked up the wrong prop. When they filmed the helicopter sequence, they really did fly it under the overpass; almost everyone was too afraid to try it because of how insanely dangerous it is, but the stunt pilot stepped up and did it _twice._ There are several more stories like this, so look them up sometime if you want.
Well, the trailer is there to sell the movie and we know that Arnold is playing the good Terminator fairly early on. It's hard to keep that a surprise while trying to market the film. It'd be like trying to keep people from knowing there are apes ruling the planet in _Planet of the Apes._
@@jb888888888 That's incorrect. They _did_ keep it a secret for nearly all of the marketing campaign, including the teaser and the first trailer. They revealed the existence of two Terminators in that first trailer, but deliberately withheld which one was supposed to be the protector. Then they needlessly added the reveal in the final trailer, which released _right before_ the film premiered. It would have been easy to use specific shots and scenes to keep the role of the T-800 ambiguous at best. They could have focused on stunts and action, but not show him helping John. Older trailers used to be far more subtle and restrained; the original trailer for Jurassic Park is an excellent example of this. Modern audiences have become too accustomed to trailers spoiling their movies, either via showing too much, or someone doing a trailer breakdown. It's gotten to the point that Marvel and other large studios intentionally put fake or deleted scenes in their trailers to throw off analyses. When T2 came out in 1991, we didn't have the benefit of online social media; the best you could hope for was someone leaking an early draft of the script to a magazine, or maybe a Usenet group/board/chatroom/etc. The majority of any spoilers you got back then was done via word of mouth, so audiences wouldn't know until days or even weeks after a premiere. So yes, they could have easily pulled it off while maintaining their marketing campaign.

Regarding Dean Norris (Hank from Breaking Bad); The helicopter pilot in 39:43 is NOT him considering that's why you've put this scene in your edit after talking about him. He's actually the SWAT leader that raids the SkyNet factory and shoots Miles Dyson. You can most clearly see him at 26:07 in this video as he approaches to Miles Dyson who struggles to hold the detonator and warns them to leave. He's the one who shouts "fall back!" to his team. I'm sure you'll recognize him better in his close up at 26:13.
The unsung hero of the movie is Charles Tamburro. He's a helicopter pilot, and he was working on a ton of movies and TV shows. He plays the pilot who jumps out after the "Get out!", and he was also the pilot who flew the helicopter under the bridge. Twice, at least.

I don't want to be an "actually" guy, but AKTUALLY...it was first used in The Abyss in 1989, and then perfected in T2. But yes it was cutting edge considering my phone is a more powerful computer than what they did it on in 1991. Sorry for the "aktually".....lol

Apparently the TV trailer spoiled the big reveal for almost everyone back in 1991. I and my housemate must have been the only two people on the planet who didn't see the trailer on TV, and so nothing was spoiled for us. In the pre-credits scene, when the skull gets crushed by the T-800, may I say that we already had kick ass multi track digital theater surround sound back then, and, hell yeah, we all jumped out of our seats when that CRUNCH hit our ears! My housemate James' great grandfather was H. G. Wells, and so James was always skeptical of time travel films (since his great granddad wrote The Time Machine, the great granddaddy of all time travel stories) and at the end, James turned to me and said, quietly, in his New-York-born-but-raised-by-British-parents way, "Zero flaw?" Of course T-2 had a much bigger budget than the first movie. I think it was the most expensive film made up to that time. The anticipation leading up to it was ENORMOUS. The first film was moderately successful at the box office, but it also had gone on to gain a cult following because of cable TV and video rentals (back before streaming: this movie came out the year before the World Wide Web was invented). There was a huge marketing campaign for it, so it was definitely the movie event of the year. Its CGI still looks pretty good for what they attempted. The money made by movies like this one helped pay for the animation studios and software development that would lead to the next big leaps forward in CGI history,. Jurassic Park (1993), Twister (1996) and Independence Day (1996) being among the notable ones. I'm happy to see that, now that CGI can do pretty much anything, that there are still directors who fall back on practical effects where possible. Frankly, when CGI is pushed super hard, I find it distracting from the story, and almost too much to deal with. Give me a good story, and I will meet the visual effects department more than halfway. I've done a fair amount of effects work in zero-budget community theater horror and science fiction, and I know I'm not the only one. If you have a good story to tell, you've got me at "Once upon a time...."

this movie is for many people one of thebest Action movies ever its non stop with an amazing story . and the technology ,sound and image quality its real good for the year it was made.
I don't know why people recommend the short version over the director's cut. First of all -- It's the DIRECTOR'S cut. It's the story James Cameron wanted to present. It gives more insight into what's going through Sarah's head, illustrates more of the T-1000's weaknesses, and ties the story up beautifully.
Disagree. Smile scene is too silly. Walking out to check the dog's collar spoon feeds the implied trick. The ending drags out too much. The Reese cameo is unnecessary. I only miss the chip surgery scene from the director's cut.
There _is_ no "director's cut." There's the 137-minute theatrical cut, the 1993 "special edition," and the 156-minute "ultimate cut" -- and Cameron has said he prefers the theatrical cut.
The theatrical cut is by far the superior version. There are many cases where the Director's Cut is not the best cut and this is absolutely one of them.
You're really good at this. Please do Galaxy Quest. It's a parody/homage to Star Trek. But all you need to know is that the actor who plaid the Original Captain, William Shatner, really, really liked, um, William Shatner. And Star Trek fans can be a bit much. It's a terrific film.
The guy who took the pictures in the mall was the cop he carjacked in the first movie, 1L19, same actor and I think he’s one of the screenwriters. The reason his character took all the pictures is because he recognized Arnold as the guy who stole his cop car.
My wife and I are both film makers. I've worked with Robert Patrick, who played the T-1000. Also, we're friends with Michael Biehn, who played Kyle Reese in the first one. Him and his family live here in Arizona. Now, I happened to like most of the sequels after T2. I guess I'm weird that way. Only one I wasn't fond of was Terminator 3. Well, Terminator Salvation wasn't all that memorable either. But I like Terminator Genisys, and Terminator Dark Fate. Still, my favorite is the first one. It's the closest to a horror film, and I'm a horror actor/author.
Being associated with celebs, or being A filmmaker is a weird context to bring to justify your sympathy for sequels that destroyed the legacy of movies that are considered greatest of all times. Basically its like being a chef who doesn't understand where to stop with cheese, and his arguments are that he knows other chefs.

The T1000 Vs T101 fight in the factory is one of the best villainous beatdowns in cinema. Skinny Robert Patrick demolishing Arnold so effortlessly is perfectly brutal and so very terminator.

This movie is a mother-flippin' masterpiece. You should look at some behind-the-scenes stuff about the special effects. They invented many incredible new visual effects technologies for this film. Also, NICE catch seeing Dean Norris in this movie! :D
Such a brilliant reaction again. This is a fantastic sequel, great characters, great writing, great effects, it has everything. Another bit of trivia it wasn't just Linda Hamilton who had her twin in this film, the security guard at the mental hospital who the new Terminator copied was also played by two twins, and another bit of trivia for you, in the scene in the shopping mall where John Connor is trying to escape from the Terminators, Arnie is carrying a box of Roses, inside which there is a shotgun hidden, this is in reference to the band "Guns 'n' Roses" who did some music for the film soundtrack. Apparently a policeman actor from the first film makes a cameo at the mall as well, turning around to take a picture of him because he recognized him from 1984.

You mentioned Linda Hamilton'd twin. There's another set of twins in the movie. Meet Dan and Don Stanton, the security guard at Sarah's hospital that gets a Terminator finger in the eye. They didn't need to do any filming tricks. The brothers Stanton can also be seen in a minor role, mostly as a sight gag, in the movie Good Morning Vietnam with the late Robin Williams. They were also in Gremlins II, a movie specifically made to make fun of the first Gremlins movie.
I personally prefer the extended cut of T2, if only because there's a great scene that explains why he suddenly starts picking up on human habits and traits in the second half of the film. We get a passable explanation via ADR dialogue while Sarah is digging bullets out of his flesh, but the full scene is much better imo. There's a lot more great scenes and shots that mostly got chopped to keep runtime down and the pacing fast, but I think The movie is still pretty well paced even with their inclusion.
That's all well and good, but if some random bloke on the internet tells her not to watch it then she doesn't watch it! This is how it works with these channels.
The extended version also makes it much more clear that the T-1000 was severely damaged after the freezing incident and its systems are not working properly. Without that being clear, it makes zero sense why he would be torturing Sarah and trying to get her to call to John...he's clearly touching and should simply then kill her, copy her and call to John itself.
You get why Sarah Connor is a great example of a truly strong female character. She has to struggle to get what she has. She overcomes a lot of obstacles, but not without sacrifice. She's strong and tough, but she also has a feminine side she doesn't have to hide. She and Ellen Ripley from the _Alien_ franchise are my go-to examples of strong female characters. Modern-day screenwriters NEED to analyze both characters to learn this. Every time the T-1000 appears on screen copying someone, it's actually that actor's twin. The prison guard he stabs through the eye and the T-1000 are real-life twins. They've appeared in other movies like _Gremlins 2._ You know about Linda and Leslie Hamilton. Leslie passed away a few years ago. I haven't watched too many of your FTWs, but I'm glad you take the time to put your thoughts in order before giving your final word. If that means a second or third rewatch of a movie, you're not afraid to do it. Your energy is awesome and you don't ramble. If you haven't already, I recommend watching _Alien_ and _Aliens._ You should watch the theatrical releases (if you can find them) instead of the extended editions.

Plenty of strong female characters way before that, not sure why people stil repeat that - from the top of my head, all can be seen in Alien/Aliens (hell, even Vasquez was a pure badass too), original Star Wars (and Princess Leia), Silence of the Lambs, Terminator 1 and 2 of course, Tomb Rider movies (the ones with Angelina Jolie), Xena, Fifth Element, Kill Bill, Milllion Dollar Baby, The Girl with a Dragon Tattoo series, and let's not forget the whole "Resident Evil" franchise multiple movies with Milla Jovovich, or even Erin Brockovich, or something like "The Extraordinary Adventures of Adèle Blanc-Sec" from 2010. Hell, even X-Files had a strong female character back in 1990s or something like a Sabrina with Audrey Hepburn (granted, a bit older movie here). And that is even not touching Asian cinema. Jennifer Lawrence? Not even close... Edit: spelling...
Great reaction to T2. I think the first Terminator was filmed on a budget of $6.5 million, T2 had a budget of $100 million hence the major improvements in CGI and big stunts. As you are just starting down the long road of watching great films, I have a list of ones you should watch. Die hard, Fifth Element, Red, Red 2 (all Bruce Willis films), Commando, True Lies (Arnie films), Independence Day, I Robot, Men in Black (Will Smith) and many many more. Keep up the good work!!
This is the first movie I ever cried at. Watched it with my dad and as they lowered him into the molten metal I cried to my dad, “Why?!” To this day, every time my dad and I say goodbye, we give each other a thumbs up like The Terminator did to John.
Speaking as another introvert -- with me it's partly nature and partly nurture. My mother was very talkative, she was undiagnosed bipolar for most of my life (if not hers). My father and older brother managed to jump in when they could. So there was very little time left for me to talk. So I didn't. Point being, when you're doing a video there's nobody there to stop you so you finally have the opportunity to talk. At least that's my take.
I was so happy to see this reaction pop up. The theatrical version is probably best for a first watch and you can watch the extended version on your own later. Terminator 3 is a good SF/action movie but suffers in comparison to the first 2 films. The TV series, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, is a better continuation of the story IMO, and the pilot episode is especially good. You are my favorite new reactor. I love your energy and your look (especially your eyes). Please continue to do a variety of genres of films: comedy, rom-com, musical, SF, fantasy, action, adventure, animation, western, war, thriller, suspense, horror, etc. I may have already suggested it but a great early rom-com is "It Happened One Night" (1934) which won the 5 major Oscars: Best Picture, Director, Actor, Actress, and Adapted Screenplay. Another of my favorites, a historical romantic comedy-drama, is "Shakespeare in Love" (1998) which won Best Picture, Actress and Screenplay plus 4 more Oscars and has had almost no reaction videos on youtube.
I was allowed to go see this movie at the theater because my mom thought it was about airplanes, I'm still laughing to this day. Fun fact John's friend was the singer for Bad 4 Good witch the drummer is now in Avenged Sevenfold.
Great reaction to an awesome movie! And the miracle of a bigger budget for better practical/digital FX. 😀 Robert Patrick trained so hard for this role as the T-1000. Learning to run full speed only breathing through his nose, and he was fast enough a sprinter that he actually caught the dirt bike in the mall parking garage. He was so amazingly intimidating in this movie. When he's more intimidating than Arnold, that's impressive as heck. When the orderly licks Sarah in the hospital, that was apparently one of the catatonia tests done by unethical or sadistic orderlies according to an old friend of mine who had worked in a few psych hospitals, mainly in California, back in the late 70s and early 80s. It wasn't unusual for patients to try to get an advantage by pretending to be catatonic, hoping that the staff would think that they were out of it and not pay much attention so they could try to escape or whatever. Licking someone's face was a mild way of testing, according to my friend. The more standard way of testing among the more brutal orderlies was what was called a cup check, basically hitting the person in the crotch as hard as they could with a broomstick or something like that (the tonfa, shown in the movie, or a billyclub, wasn't standard when he was working in the field, so the evil jerks had to use other items like broomsticks). If they didn't react then they were catatonic. And, sometimes, the catatonic patients needed to be taken to the hospital due to the damage inflicted by whatever the orderly did causing ruptures or internal damage. Apparently one patient lost his testicles as it was several days before it was realized how badly he had been hurt. And, of course, no one ever knew how it happened. “He musta fallen, or done it to himself to try to get out of here.” My friend never missed that job. He told me that some people did things worse than that, but those stories don't need repeating. There are actually two sets of twins in this movie. The other set are the brothers who played the security guard at Pescadero and the T-1000 imitating him. Sadly Linda's sister Lesley, a nurse in real life, passed away a few years ago. I remember learning that Cameron got a letter from a group of scientists congratulating him for the most realistic depiction of a nuclear detonation in a city in Sarah's nightmare. This horrified him since he was just trying to create the most over the top terrifying image he could, only to discover that it was accurate. Luckily, Sarah stepped back from Terminator mode before killing Dyson, which is good. Though killing Dyson wouldn't have changed much of anything. Cyberdyne still would have had the parts, all his notes, and everything they needed to complete the project. Judgment Day would have come anyway. The excellent Joe Morton, who played Dyson, had an accident that punctured a lung when he was younger, so he knew firsthand how Dyson should be breathing/gasping at the end. The extended edition had two advantages over the standard edition. Though it wasn't obvious in its performance, the continuous damage the T-1000 was taking from every shot that hit it and every impact was affecting it. It is most obvious at the scene in the smelting plant after being shattered when, as we saw, its feet tended to take on the aspect of the flooring as it walked and, in the extended edition, when it grabbed a railing its hand mimicked the paint job on the railing. Also, in the extended edition, at the final scene when Sarah is calling out for John, he looks down and sees that the fake Sarah's feet look like the ironwork that the T-1000 is standing on and he knows for sure which to trust. The extended edition ending is also superior for one more reason: it ends with older Sarah sitting on a playground bench and watching her adult son playing with her granddaughter, meaning that this Terminator movie is absolutely the end of the franchise, and all the movies that steal the name of the series after this are just lame cash grabs and can and should be avoided like the plague, in my opinion.
I get your point about why you prefer the alternate ending, but I agree with why it was cut. I think it clashes with the tone of the film. I prefer the open ending of the other editions. The Terminator franchise at this stage is one big multiverse of parallel tinelines anyway so that even without a definite end to T2 we could still disregard everything after it as just stuff that happened in an alternate universe.
I never heard of that catatonia test either! really interesting and while still being a slightly unethical test it totally changes my view of that orderly who until know was viewed as a total pervert until now.still weird of course but better than before
@@Whimsory You're welcome! And yes, it is awful that some horrible people search for positions where they can do horrible things and get away with it. As my friend told me, back in the days of no security cameras except in the pharmacy and often inadequate supervision, he was surprised that there weren't more severe injuries or even fatalities. He told me that at least one of the worst co-workers he had did end up serving life in prison when he was caught abusing an elderly person at another facility after he was fired from the psych hospital.
@@ansionnachbeagrioga5260 All subsequent movies happened in a poorly written alternate universe. 😛 Actually I agree with you completely about the rolling wet roadway ending being stylistically and tonally the absolute best. It is my favorite ending, no question. The part of me that prefers happy endings does like the normal everyday John living happily in undestroyed California and playing with his daughter on the playground. But that's not good enough for it to be my preferred ending.

Robert Patrick's audition for the T-1000 was just 5 minutes of him staring menacingly into the camera. He was also a track star in school and he ended up outrunning John on his motorbike and had to slow down for the scene. He trained himself to breathe through his nose while sprinting, reasoning that a killer robot wouldn't need to be gasping for air like a human, and also trained himself to not blink while firing pistols and to reload without looking, for the same reason, robotic facade.
I used to run like the T1000 as a kid cause I thought it made me faster 😅

Yup, a far as I am concern with what Robert Patrick brought to the role of the T1000, out of all the other Terminators other than the T800, Model 101, Robert Patrick is the only person that out Terminate the very most, and the very least, match, Arnold Schwarzenegger.
If he was a track star in school he shouldn't have had to train to hold his breath for the part of the terminator.
He would already know how to do that seeing as though sprinters are taught to hold their breath for the first 50m of a race. It should've come naturally to him.

The thing that made Miles Dyson's death so horribly realistic is that the actor, Joe Morton, knew what it was like to suffer a collapsed/punctured lung from a past accident. He really sold that agony.

What would have made this film perfect would be if he wasnt so aggressive and menacing before the twist where you find out arnold is the good guy. Even people unaware of the twist assume that they are both bad guys lol. They should have kept roberts terminator more chill at the start when he warps in.
A cool little detail that is often overlooked - because the special and practical effects of this movie take the most attention - is how well Arnold and Robert Patrick portray a very mechanical fight during the climax. No words are exchanged between the two, nor does either actor even make a single vocal sound. Their fight is so well choreographed that it even helps create the illusion neither is even taking breaths as they throw down, because both are machines and don't run on oxygen.
The choreo for their different hand to hand styles and the use of T1000's morphing in the fight is top notch. And the way T1000 not only outfights, but out-thinks the T101 - using elements of the factory to his advantage - shows it really is a superior model. It makes the heroic return all the sweeter.
They designed the T101 to have body odor, bad breath, etc., but not breathe? Wouldn't that make them very easy to spot as terminators?

@@LordVolkov I'd like to point out that Arnold is a T-800 series Terminator, not a 101. He's MODEL 101. His line "That was a different T-101" from Terminator 3 was an error they never bothered fixing. The correct line should have been "That was a different Model 101."
Basically the T-800 series Terminators were the ones that had living tissue over a metal endoskeleton. There were numerous models made in the series, each with a different appearance. The 101 model is the one that looks like Arnold Schwarzenegger. We saw a different model T-800 in the 1st film, in a dream/flashback to 2029, where a Terminator infiltrated a human hideout and began attacking once it was compromised by the dogs they had on hand (canines can sniff out Terminators).
As an aside, the Terminator in the 3rd film was actually a T-850, technically still in the same series, but with some improvements like a hardened chassis. It still had the same model 101 appearance as the first two T-800s, however.
The scary thing about Sarah's dream sequence is that apparently it is an accurate depiction of what a thermonuclear attack would be like. I'll take ground zero over being ten miles away thanks.

Linda Hamilton get well deserved credit for the physical transformation she made and becoming a badass. But for me the best part of this movie was her emotional roller coaster. She clearly has some sort of PTSD, but overcomes her fear for John, but then she slowly slips into becoming her own worst fear. When she goes to kill Dyson and John stops her she has a breakdown because she realizes she has become a terminator. She is willing to kill to change the future.
At the same time the terminator is learning to become human. Nice arc for them.

The stunt work in this film is absolutely incredible. The scene where the helicopter flies under the bridge was so dangerous all the cameramen refused to shoot it. So James Cameron picked up a camera and personally shot the scene himself. Not only did he shoot the scene, he did it twice so he could get a shot in front the of the helicopter and one from behind.
Awesome there's suddenly all these T2 reaction videos - one of the best sci-fi films ever made. Powerful, I remember watching it dozens of times in the 90s when it first came out - still a top 3 film of all time in my book. T1 was a fun horror sci-fi and T2 became a masterpiece of action-hero adventure drama sci-fi, maybe more thriller than horror vibes.
T2 is just a perfect ending. It's one of the few movies that made me cry. First time I saw it was around '98 on VHS. Not all reactors pick up on it but the scene where the two kids are fighting and the Terminator says "it's in your nature to destroy yourself" hit deep as a kid. The Terminator became more human throughout the film, even developing humor ("I need a vacation") and his own smile (btw, more goes into this in the directors cut with more scenes). When he said, "I know now why you cry, but it's something I can never do", hit me in the feels and the thumbs up finished me.
Stan Winston Studios just put out a RUclips video all about how they did the visual effects for the T-1000 the other day. Also, the Director's Cut of the film has some REALLY impressive visual effects shots that aren't in the shorter theatrical cut. You'll probably enjoy checking that out on your own at some point given how much you enjoyed this.

Though it looks very simple, the mirror shot is incredibly complex and a shame that it didn't make the theatrical.
I think I saw that. The thing that impressed me most were the practical gunshot "wounds" appearing on the T-1000, spring loaded foil thingies. The video I saw had behind-the-scenes demonstrations of them triggering them, and they look good, with no computers harmed.
Gotta clear up some semantics, because James Cameron has said multiple times that the theatrical cut is his director's cut. He also chose the theatrical cut to get the 3D re-release in theatres. Please refer to it as either the Ultimate Edition if it has the alternate ending or the Extended Edition without the alternate ending.
Wow! I didn't actually realize how much of the T-1000 was puppets. The amount of ingenuity required before CGI took over is really impressive. The bullet hole mechanisms are pretty amazing.
@@JakobBerry Yeah, for sure. Once one knows the whole story, you can watch the movie and pick out which shots were done practically versus CGI, but holy shit... they did the work! I swear in 1991, on the big screen, it was all completely convincing (of course we all knew the thing as a whole was fiction).
The transformation of Sarah Conner from how she was when the first movie started and how she was during the time of this move, is one of the best character developments with no so many words, ever done in cinema. Amazing story arc. She earned her strength. PS: YOU are an amazing reactor!
Sarah Connor is probably my favorite character arch in all of sci fi. From a typical everyday woman waiting tables, to finding her inner strength at the end of that film, to a total badass in this one, as well as a vulnerable mother in the scene where she tries to kill Dyson and can't, and finally someone who is able to find hope in all she's witnessed. Like you said at 37:49 regarding the kinds of characters you like, Sarah Connor is a prime example of how to do it right.
She's also one of the reasons I roll my eyes whenever people claim scifi fans are misogynists for being critical of some modern, poorly written, female characters. The people that claim that have to be oblivious to classics like this movie, Alien, Star Wars, Star Trek, etc. Scfi fans love great female characters. We just don't like poorly written ones that are just vehicle pieces for some kind of social messaging. We don't like to be treated like children being read some kind of nursery-rhyme/morality fable. Give us good characters and we'll celebrate them. We've been doing it for decades now.
Sarah Connor is one of the women I class as action heroes, not heroines. Like male counterparts, she relies on martial training, physical strength, and direct confrontation rather than her "feminine wiles" and deception. Others on the list include Buffy Summers (especially SMG's version), Ellen Ripley, and Katee Sackhoff's Starbuck. In written fiction, Elizabeth Moon writes similar roles, particularly Paks from The Deed of Paksenarrion and Ky Vatta from Vatta's War. Tanya Huff's main character, Master Sergeant Torin Kerr, in the Confederation novels is another.
Seeing Sarah react to the Terminator walk out of the elevator, (when I'm writing this comment) is meant to drive home so much to us the audience.
This woman trained her son to face a nightmare that she even today may not fully think is real and prays to God never is, the man she loved mostly died in her arms with her telling him "GET UP SOLDIER," the last thing she'd ever say to him. And it meant EVERYTHING to him.
If those of us outside of class haven't yet seen how impactful this is meant to be, I'm glad that explanation isn't an equation to experience, depending on the side of the flip we land.

The T1000 didn't go into the floor, he spread himself thinly across the top. Robert Patrick is one of the greatest villains ever in this film. This film is almost 32 years old and it's STILL better than anything today. This was the first film to cost 100 million dollars and it showed. This film revolutionised CGI in movies, and the T1000 effects used the very first version of motion capture, which is used regularly today in films like Cameron's own Avatar films. Great reaction to a legendary classic.

I just love your enthusiasm, how thoughtful your commentary is, and how you actually PAY ATTENTION to what you're watching -- you'd be surprised how many other reactors just natter endlessly over dialog and important scenes, it gets SO annoying!! The actor playing the orderly that licked Sara's face deserves a lot of credit. First of all, he was a nice guy so Linda Hamilton had to convince him that licking her was ok and important to the scene. Also, in a deleted scene, he was supposed to hit her in the stomach with a nightstick but was so worried about hurting her that he would blow the takes by not doing it hard enough. Then, when Sara breaks out of her room, she hits him in the face with a broom handle for real.
The poor guy took a licking twice.

Personally I understand the actor, to me it would be much harder and braver to lick than to be licked. That's why I give props to actors like Antony Starr (Homelander) who find such scenes as amusing.
The thumbs up at the end really seals the deal for the emotional aspect of the film. This is literally a perfect film because of that last sequence. I saw the movie posters at the theatre as a kid and it look so awesome even before I could even see it and it was so worth the wait when I got older. Epic Epic Epic film. Hats off to Jim Cameron.

There sure are a lot of fragile people these days. Drug overdoses and suicide rates are increasing rapidly. It seems like some time around the mid 80s our methods of child rearing and education started to move in counter productive directions. This has resulted in more unhappy people. Hopefully as a society we'll reverse these trends in time to avoid catastrophe. And hopefully you two find ways to tap the inner strength that I believe all people possess deep inside.

Ive seen so many t2 reaction videos up to this point and this video is easily one of the best compared to all others. Big insights and interest in the movies themes and acting. I gotta say, im quite impressed due to your (presumed) young age. Keep it up and youll get bigger and bigger crowd. Huge cred.
I would agree, except for when she states, incorrectly. that the T1000 got "into the linoleum". Bad take. The T1000 simply laid flat atop the floor and imitated the color and tile pattern, in order to sample the guard without him knowing it.
Fun fact: Yes, Arnold did have a stunt guy for that motorcycle jump. And the scene where he tears up the police cars with the huge "minigun" (it's only "mini" relative to the mounted aircraft guns it's adapted from) was supposed to be a stuntman as well. The gun relies on the explosion of the bullets to cycle that big rotating barrel, so even though it was loaded with "blanks" (i.e. no lethal bullets), the cartridges had to be powerful enough to spin the minigun as if they were the real thing, making the whole gun dangerous to fire in a couple of ways. The recoil from the supercharged blanks was also a massive force, even if it wasn't quite as powerful as firing live rounds.
So when it came time to get that shot, it was deemed too dangerous to risk the star, and a stuntman was put in. But Arnold ultimately had to do that scene himself, because he was the only one on set who was strong enough to lift the gun and control it safely while it was firing.
A lot of the movie is clever trickery-groundbreaking CGI, but also some very clever practical effects. But some things, like those muscles, you can't fake.
The same gun that was used in Predator.
Sorry but that about the blanks 'driving' the rotation of the minigun is BS, it is driven by an electric motor to start rotate when the trigger is started to being pressed (2-phase-trigger), otherwise it would not fire at the same rate the whole time but need to speed up first .. which it does with the electric motor.
Now that it had to use larger than usual charges for blanks i could believe, as the cycling rate (firing - ejecting shell - feeding next cartridge) is extremely high and especially the ejection of the spent shells needs to be assured ... so yeah, possible.
It's a minigun because it's the miniature version of the M61 Vulcan cannon.

I completely agree with your statement at the start, as it is very rare when a sequel can out perform the original, but this is for sure one of those times. James Cameron does it again in regards to Alien/Aliens, but he wasn't really involved in the first movie, but he sure as hell put his stamp on the 2nd one. So add those two movies to your watch list if you haven't seen them already, you won't be disappointed.

Great edit!!! One of the best scenes in the movie is the one in which the disbelieving psychologist sees the terminator go through the bars, which makes him drop the hypo cap out of his mouth. I can't tell you how many reactors cut that scene out, which is disappointing. So GREAT JOB leaving that in because it feels so good to see it. :)

I saw this in the theatre. Packed. The cheering that happened for Arnold and the boos for the evil Terminator were an experience I’ll never forget.
YESSSS! I knew you'd love this movie, and I love even more that you appreciate Sarah for being a fully-realized character. In that line, I'll paste my comment from another recent reaction to this movie: This movie was SO ahead of its time, in SO many ways. Of course the FX stand up -- the Corridor Crew VFX RUclips channel tried to re-create the jailbreak scene where the T-1000 walked through the barred door... and they couldn't do it. The original artists literally wrote their own mathematical code JUST for that scene alone. Custom built math for a few seconds that would stick in your brain for a lifetime. Legends.
But aside from all that, they had a great scientist who happened to be black, and a strong female character who was not a "strong female character" in the modern sense. Dyson was a believable scientist and a caring father, not a Steve Jobs god-like figure or a Musk-like salesman. Nor was the movie winking at you the whole time to say, "See? And he's black!!". They normalized the casting, as it should be. Kids of all backgrounds can look at Dyson as a kind of inspiration (unintended apocalypse aside). And Joe Morton played him so well, we all felt sick when he didn't make it.
And Sarah wasn't a perfect goddess, either. She had depth. She had character. She's someone that people can genuinely aspire to be like. She was more mentor than mother (a break from type as a Hollywood leading lady), and that made sense given all her struggles and limited time with John. She expands everyone's ideas of women's possible roles in society, and couches it with believable psychology reacting to extraordinary circumstances. And yeah, she felt like a terminator for a moment, when she was going after Dyson. Her line at the end of the movie about people being able to "value human life" -- that was her, acknowledging her own growth. Sarah Connor isn't just an icon because of her gender, she's an icon because of how compelling she is, both in the script and on the screen. Legend.

The Robert Patrick bars' passthrough in the asylum was programmed in a computer trying to simulate liquid's mechanics, it is an algorithmic effect. Modern computer power now is enough to perfect it but you'll need engineers, it is very difficult by any artistic's means.
@ When the Corridor Crew guys attempted it, they split up and tried two different methods. I think they both used pre-packaged modules for flow effects, but the effects weren't meant to re-glob something into a single object again, so the guys did their best to wing it... to mixed results.
“A terminator can learn the value of human life, maybe we can too” I watched both terminators in the movie theaters and that line by Sarah Conner changed my life and thinking forever. It’s my #1 favorite movie ever. The message they send about humanity at the end is simply unbeatable. Linda Hamilton does the best acting job ever. Crying 😭on film is practically impossible to do and she does it perfectly. I wish she never married James Cameron because she has mega talent. It held back her acting.career. Oscar winning performance in both terminators. She’s a beast
I love, LOVE that original studio ending. To me, there are some really important shots and scenes in the Director's Cut that I'm sad weren't here: the point where they actually reset the Terminator's brain so that he can learn to be more human, and the point where the T-1000 gives himself away as the fake Sarah Connor when his feet start glitching out. But this ending is so much better, and so superior, to the "happy" Director's Cut ending, which as we approach 2029 doesn't hold up as it's not the future we're likely to get. To me, there's something beautiful about Sarah's worry and uncertainty as 1997 approaches. She doesn't know whether their heroism actually prevented Judgment Day or not. For us, 1997 came and went with no nuclear holocaust. That makes it very easy to suspend disbelief and just say that they succeeded after all.

Yeah I just watched the directors cut of Commando. The directors cut is always super kick ass. Yeah the message about human life and it’s importance on every level is what makes not only the second terminator better for me but the emotions are running higher with her son in it. Movies can only be 2 hours max to me or it becomes overkill. Wish they could put all the scenes they couldn’t fit into the original but its so good to the point that even without them this movie is #1 I’ll never forget walking out of the movie theaters a different person. It blew my mind and up until that point I’d seen dozens and dozens of films in the theaters but terminator 2 just made me think and appreciate life and other humans more. A fictional movie can make you think and feel differently forever. Now that’s talent man!!! Directors cuts are amazing I agree with that. 👍
Totally agree that she's an underrated, very talented actress, but what held back her acting career was bipolar disorder, violent mood swings and waves of suicidal depression. She said it ruined both of her marriages.

It's fantastic you were able to go into this movie without any spoilers. It's a brilliant piece of writing / directing early in the film as the t-1000 and arnold are closing in on John Connor. Until the shootout in the mall hallway, you don't know who is the good terminator and who is the bad. Automatically you'd think arnold is bad because he was the terminator in the first movie, and the other guy is a clean cut cop.
Unfortunately, the trailers for the film, advertising it before release date, spoiled this reveal.

As i was growing up with these "golden Age Action flicks" of the late 80's and 90's it is a delight to see young people enjoying these movies as i did. These laid the foundation to all the stuff that we see today. You still have so much movie gold ahead of you ! Almost getting envious to you getting to watch those movies for the first time.
"Hangin' on, like a dead fish" 😂. Also, you're not supposed to be ready for the jumpscare, that's the point 😜. Good job recognizing the police psychiatrist from the first movie, most don't or if they do they don't comment on it. And, you figured out the trivia about using twins on your own (also the guard who was killed by the floor was actually killed by his twin brother), but another fun thing is that Edward Furlong who played John basically hit puberty in the middle of filming and not only did he have a growth spurt, but his voice started changing and it caused all manner of problems making the movie.

You mentioned that you like tv series more than movies because they have real character development. I think maybe you’ve been watching the wrong movies before now. We’ve seen some excellent character development in Good Will Hunting and the two Terminator movies you watched, and there are many many first rate movies like this. In fact it's why I like movies better than most series. I hope as part of making these you’ll begin to appreciate well crafted movies at least as much as you like TV series. They are both art forms that can be done well or poorly. Just like reaction making!
p.s. I love your butterfly art. For some reason (not spoilerly) it reminds me of August Rush, and I think you would love that movie. Catch 22 I don’t know how to recommend a movie in any true way, because I don’t want to tell you anything about it before you watch it. I will mention that Robin Williams (from Good Will Hunting) is one of the actors in August Rush.
p.p.s. I'm with the crowd that says skip the other Terminator movies. Some of them are serviceable and some aren't even that, but there are so many other great movies out there to watch first!

You did well picking up on the negative vibes of the "human" protector. When the movie was coming out they dropped the big reveal bomb in the commercials so nobody got to be "surprised" when Arnold turned out to be the good guy.

One of the three big CGI breakthrough movies of the '90s, along with "Jurassic Park" ('93) and "The Matrix" ('99). Sadly, they completely spoiled the would-be twist that Arnold was playing the "good" terminator back in the '90s before the movie hit the theaters. I didn't even consider it WAS a twist until I watched people reacting to T2 and they were surprised... then I thought "oh, i guess it WOULD be, if you didn't see all the trailers on tv ahead of time."
Definitely the best in the series, it's full of James Cameron tropes done right. It put Sarah Connor on the short list of badass action movie heroines alongside Ellen Ripley. Linda Hamilton had a daughter with James Cameron a couple years after this movie, then they were briefly married for a couple years after that (her second marriage and his fourth, I think).
Also, the role of John's foster mother was played by Jenette Goldstein, who also played the role of Vasquez in "Aliens" ('86) (another James Cameron movie). She was also in "Near Dark" ('87) alongside Lance Henriksen and Bill Paxton, who were also in "Aliens."

Linda and Leslie Hamilton aren't the only twins in this. The scene in which the T-1000 rose from the floor and copied the security guard before killing him was also accomplished with twins.
The redheaded twins show up in a bunch of stuff, but I always think of their appearance in Gremlins 2 🤣🤣🤣

You watched the right version because as much as I love Terminator 2, the extended version drags along with unnecessary scenes. The one thing I would recommend is looking for the extended scene where they reset the chip in his head (they open his head up). You should look for that scene, they should have put that in the original version.
Search "Can we reset the switch? | Terminator 2: Judgment Day [Director's Cut]" on RUclips, They use a fake mirror with Linda's twin on the other side of the wall. "So they used a window in the wall instead of a mirror! Linda Hamilton and her twin sister are mimicking each other's movements to make it seem it's a mirror"
I remember another interesting bit is that Cameron specifically wanted someone whose head motions looked like those of an eagle; like when it spots prey.

I recently saw a behind the scenes / blooper reel of Terminator 2. The actiing and technique of Robert Patrick is awesome. And they had a great deal of fun while shooting.
I think in every movie or TV show I've seen him since, there's always funny Terminator references.
The Sarah shoots at and enters the home of Miles Dyson is a reenactment of the kills from the first Terminator movie, making her like the original Terminator in a way.
In the extended version there are scenes that help other parts make sense. In one scene they reset Arnold's chip so that he can learn more and better emulate people. It also shows the chip for the first time so you would recognize it when the 1st Terminator's damaged chip is shown.
Great reaction to a great movie.
I love the different facets to John's relationship with Arnie. Sometimes Arnie is like John's new toy, sometimes he's like a father figure, and sometimes John is like Arnies big brother just looking out for him and teaching him.
Overall, you said it right, roller-coaster.
I think you're lucky to have these reactions for yourself to see when you're older. I wish I could see my own reaction to it when I saw it for the first time.
The movie sequels are devisive, but I think most fans would enjoy seeing you react to the TV series "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles." It's only two seasons, so it's not a huge commitment.

Glad you liked it - its a classic, a gem! cant even count the amount of times Ive seen this movie and I also enjoyed the extended cut with the additional footage ie Arnies head microchip being removed by Sarah and John, the dream sequence with Reece etc. ps they also used another pair of twins in this movie - the security guard that got spiked in the eye. And eventhough alot of ppl hated it I also liked T-Salvation at least it had the stones to go in a different direction rather than trying to rehash the same old story that had already been aced by T 1and 2, so when everyone complained about it (Salvation) they just went back to the same old formula and it stank!
I never get tired of watching people's reaction as they realize that Arnie is the good guy in this movie. Great job!
I think you should watch T3 now. It's not quite as good as this one, but it's still good and it wraps up the trilogy, plus it has one of the best chase scenes ever filmed.

Yeah, I've never understood the hate for the third one. Not as good as T2 for sure but good enough for a reaction.
Too many continuity errors and too cheap to be actually good, but I would kiss 3 and Salvation on the face before I would be in the same city as Genysis and Derp Woke.

I actually like Salvation. They might not be as good as T2, but I think they do a good job of completing John's story.
It's so interesting that you went into this blind. The trailer spoiled the fact that Arnold was the good guy, so it ruined the surprise. I was lucky enough to watch this in the theaters when I was a kid. I wish I could fully articulate just how insane those stunts and special effects were back then. It truly heralded the beginning of the 90's action movie genre. The director's commentary and behind the scenes production footage are definitely worth watching; there are so many cool little details that went into this. Linda Hamilton trained extensively for the movie; that one-armed reload scene at the end was added specifically because she'd become strong enough to do it. She also smacked that mental hospital orderly with the broom handle for real, because the actor kept on holding back and ruining previous takes. She also learned how to pick locks just for the escape scene. Arnold nearly broke his fingers when he tried doing that shotgun twirling trick and picked up the wrong prop. When they filmed the helicopter sequence, they really did fly it under the overpass; almost everyone was too afraid to try it because of how insanely dangerous it is, but the stunt pilot stepped up and did it _twice._ There are several more stories like this, so look them up sometime if you want.
Well, the trailer is there to sell the movie and we know that Arnold is playing the good Terminator fairly early on. It's hard to keep that a surprise while trying to market the film. It'd be like trying to keep people from knowing there are apes ruling the planet in _Planet of the Apes._
@@jb888888888 That's incorrect. They _did_ keep it a secret for nearly all of the marketing campaign, including the teaser and the first trailer. They revealed the existence of two Terminators in that first trailer, but deliberately withheld which one was supposed to be the protector. Then they needlessly added the reveal in the final trailer, which released _right before_ the film premiered. It would have been easy to use specific shots and scenes to keep the role of the T-800 ambiguous at best. They could have focused on stunts and action, but not show him helping John. Older trailers used to be far more subtle and restrained; the original trailer for Jurassic Park is an excellent example of this. Modern audiences have become too accustomed to trailers spoiling their movies, either via showing too much, or someone doing a trailer breakdown. It's gotten to the point that Marvel and other large studios intentionally put fake or deleted scenes in their trailers to throw off analyses. When T2 came out in 1991, we didn't have the benefit of online social media; the best you could hope for was someone leaking an early draft of the script to a magazine, or maybe a Usenet group/board/chatroom/etc. The majority of any spoilers you got back then was done via word of mouth, so audiences wouldn't know until days or even weeks after a premiere. So yes, they could have easily pulled it off while maintaining their marketing campaign.

Regarding Dean Norris (Hank from Breaking Bad); The helicopter pilot in 39:43 is NOT him considering that's why you've put this scene in your edit after talking about him. He's actually the SWAT leader that raids the SkyNet factory and shoots Miles Dyson. You can most clearly see him at 26:07 in this video as he approaches to Miles Dyson who struggles to hold the detonator and warns them to leave. He's the one who shouts "fall back!" to his team. I'm sure you'll recognize him better in his close up at 26:13.
Robert Patrick, who plays the T-1000, is a very versatile actor. He went on to play good guy, agent John Doggett on the later seasons of the X-Files.
He also plays in the Walking Dead.
The unsung hero of the movie is Charles Tamburro. He's a helicopter pilot, and he was working on a ton of movies and TV shows. He plays the pilot who jumps out after the "Get out!", and he was also the pilot who flew the helicopter under the bridge. Twice, at least.

I don't want to be an "actually" guy, but AKTUALLY...it was first used in The Abyss in 1989, and then perfected in T2. But yes it was cutting edge considering my phone is a more powerful computer than what they did it on in 1991. Sorry for the "aktually".....lol
You should check out a doc called Jurassic Punk. It's about Steve "Spaz" Williams, the guy who was the guy who basically was "the' guy when it came to animating The Abyss, T2 and Jurassic Park.

Man, i just found your channel and this is my favorite movie of all time. Glad you reacted to this and liked it, this was the very first movie I watched on vhs back in 91’ good times.
Apparently the TV trailer spoiled the big reveal for almost everyone back in 1991. I and my housemate must have been the only two people on the planet who didn't see the trailer on TV, and so nothing was spoiled for us.
In the pre-credits scene, when the skull gets crushed by the T-800, may I say that we already had kick ass multi track digital theater surround sound back then, and, hell yeah, we all jumped out of our seats when that CRUNCH hit our ears!
My housemate James' great grandfather was H. G. Wells, and so James was always skeptical of time travel films (since his great granddad wrote The Time Machine, the great granddaddy of all time travel stories) and at the end, James turned to me and said, quietly, in his New-York-born-but-raised-by-British-parents way, "Zero flaw?"
Of course T-2 had a much bigger budget than the first movie. I think it was the most expensive film made up to that time. The anticipation leading up to it was ENORMOUS. The first film was moderately successful at the box office, but it also had gone on to gain a cult following because of cable TV and video rentals (back before streaming: this movie came out the year before the World Wide Web was invented). There was a huge marketing campaign for it, so it was definitely the movie event of the year.
Its CGI still looks pretty good for what they attempted. The money made by movies like this one helped pay for the animation studios and software development that would lead to the next big leaps forward in CGI history,. Jurassic Park (1993), Twister (1996) and Independence Day (1996) being among the notable ones. I'm happy to see that, now that CGI can do pretty much anything, that there are still directors who fall back on practical effects where possible. Frankly, when CGI is pushed super hard, I find it distracting from the story, and almost too much to deal with. Give me a good story, and I will meet the visual effects department more than halfway. I've done a fair amount of effects work in zero-budget community theater horror and science fiction, and I know I'm not the only one. If you have a good story to tell, you've got me at "Once upon a time...."

this movie is for many people one of thebest Action movies ever its non stop with an amazing story . and the technology ,sound and image quality its real good for the year it was made.
I don't know why people recommend the short version over the director's cut. First of all -- It's the DIRECTOR'S cut. It's the story James Cameron wanted to present. It gives more insight into what's going through Sarah's head, illustrates more of the T-1000's weaknesses, and ties the story up beautifully.
Disagree. Smile scene is too silly. Walking out to check the dog's collar spoon feeds the implied trick. The ending drags out too much. The Reese cameo is unnecessary.
I only miss the chip surgery scene from the director's cut.
There _is_ no "director's cut." There's the 137-minute theatrical cut, the 1993 "special edition," and the 156-minute "ultimate cut" -- and Cameron has said he prefers the theatrical cut.
The theatrical cut is by far the superior version. There are many cases where the Director's Cut is not the best cut and this is absolutely one of them.
You're really good at this. Please do Galaxy Quest. It's a parody/homage to Star Trek. But all you need to know is that the actor who plaid the Original Captain, William Shatner, really, really liked, um, William Shatner. And Star Trek fans can be a bit much. It's a terrific film.
The guy who took the pictures in the mall was the cop he carjacked in the first movie, 1L19, same actor and I think he’s one of the screenwriters. The reason his character took all the pictures is because he recognized Arnold as the guy who stole his cop car.

My wife and I are both film makers. I've worked with Robert Patrick, who played the T-1000. Also, we're friends with Michael Biehn, who played Kyle Reese in the first one. Him and his family live here in Arizona. Now, I happened to like most of the sequels after T2. I guess I'm weird that way. Only one I wasn't fond of was Terminator 3. Well, Terminator Salvation wasn't all that memorable either. But I like Terminator Genisys, and Terminator Dark Fate. Still, my favorite is the first one. It's the closest to a horror film, and I'm a horror actor/author.
Being associated with celebs, or being A filmmaker is a weird context to bring to justify your sympathy for sequels that destroyed the legacy of movies that are considered greatest of all times. Basically its like being a chef who doesn't understand where to stop with cheese, and his arguments are that he knows other chefs.

The T1000 Vs T101 fight in the factory is one of the best villainous beatdowns in cinema. Skinny Robert Patrick demolishing Arnold so effortlessly is perfectly brutal and so very terminator.

This movie is a mother-flippin' masterpiece. You should look at some behind-the-scenes stuff about the special effects. They invented many incredible new visual effects technologies for this film.

Such a brilliant reaction again. This is a fantastic sequel, great characters, great writing, great effects, it has everything. Another bit of trivia it wasn't just Linda Hamilton who had her twin in this film, the security guard at the mental hospital who the new Terminator copied was also played by two twins, and another bit of trivia for you, in the scene in the shopping mall where John Connor is trying to escape from the Terminators, Arnie is carrying a box of Roses, inside which there is a shotgun hidden, this is in reference to the band "Guns 'n' Roses" who did some music for the film soundtrack.

Apparently a policeman actor from the first film makes a cameo at the mall as well, turning around to take a picture of him because he recognized him from 1984.

You mentioned Linda Hamilton'd twin. There's another set of twins in the movie. Meet Dan and Don Stanton, the security guard at Sarah's hospital that gets a Terminator finger in the eye. They didn't need to do any filming tricks. The brothers Stanton can also be seen in a minor role, mostly as a sight gag, in the movie Good Morning Vietnam with the late Robin Williams. They were also in Gremlins II, a movie specifically made to make fun of the first Gremlins movie.
I personally prefer the extended cut of T2, if only because there's a great scene that explains why he suddenly starts picking up on human habits and traits in the second half of the film. We get a passable explanation via ADR dialogue while Sarah is digging bullets out of his flesh, but the full scene is much better imo. There's a lot more great scenes and shots that mostly got chopped to keep runtime down and the pacing fast, but I think The movie is still pretty well paced even with their inclusion.
I do prefer the extended version myself.
That's all well and good, but if some random bloke on the internet tells her not to watch it then she doesn't watch it! This is how it works with these channels.
The extended version also makes it much more clear that the T-1000 was severely damaged after the freezing incident and its systems are not working properly. Without that being clear, it makes zero sense why he would be torturing Sarah and trying to get her to call to John...he's clearly touching and should simply then kill her, copy her and call to John itself.
I _greatly_ prefer the ending of theatrical cut but the extended is cool everywhere else

You get why Sarah Connor is a great example of a truly strong female character. She has to struggle to get what she has. She overcomes a lot of obstacles, but not without sacrifice. She's strong and tough, but she also has a feminine side she doesn't have to hide. She and Ellen Ripley from the _Alien_ franchise are my go-to examples of strong female characters. Modern-day screenwriters NEED to analyze both characters to learn this.
Every time the T-1000 appears on screen copying someone, it's actually that actor's twin. The prison guard he stabs through the eye and the T-1000 are real-life twins. They've appeared in other movies like _Gremlins 2._ You know about Linda and Leslie Hamilton. Leslie passed away a few years ago.
I haven't watched too many of your FTWs, but I'm glad you take the time to put your thoughts in order before giving your final word. If that means a second or third rewatch of a movie, you're not afraid to do it. Your energy is awesome and you don't ramble.
If you haven't already, I recommend watching _Alien_ and _Aliens._ You should watch the theatrical releases (if you can find them) instead of the extended editions.

Plenty of strong female characters way before that, not sure why people stil repeat that - from the top of my head, all can be seen in Alien/Aliens (hell, even Vasquez was a pure badass too), original Star Wars (and Princess Leia), Silence of the Lambs, Terminator 1 and 2 of course, Tomb Rider movies (the ones with Angelina Jolie), Xena, Fifth Element, Kill Bill, Milllion Dollar Baby, The Girl with a Dragon Tattoo series, and let's not forget the whole "Resident Evil" franchise multiple movies with Milla Jovovich, or even Erin Brockovich, or something like "The Extraordinary Adventures of Adèle Blanc-Sec" from 2010.
Hell, even X-Files had a strong female character back in 1990s or something like a Sabrina with Audrey Hepburn (granted, a bit older movie here).
And that is even not touching Asian cinema.

Great reaction to T2. I think the first Terminator was filmed on a budget of $6.5 million, T2 had a budget of $100 million hence the major improvements in CGI and big stunts. As you are just starting down the long road of watching great films, I have a list of ones you should watch. Die hard, Fifth Element, Red, Red 2 (all Bruce Willis films), Commando, True Lies (Arnie films), Independence Day, I Robot, Men in Black (Will Smith) and many many more. Keep up the good work!!
This is the first movie I ever cried at. Watched it with my dad and as they lowered him into the molten metal I cried to my dad, “Why?!” To this day, every time my dad and I say goodbye, we give each other a thumbs up like The Terminator did to John.
Speaking as another introvert -- with me it's partly nature and partly nurture. My mother was very talkative, she was undiagnosed bipolar for most of my life (if not hers). My father and older brother managed to jump in when they could. So there was very little time left for me to talk. So I didn't. Point being, when you're doing a video there's nobody there to stop you so you finally have the opportunity to talk. At least that's my take.
I was so happy to see this reaction pop up. The theatrical version is probably best for a first watch and you can watch the extended version on your own later. Terminator 3 is a good SF/action movie but suffers in comparison to the first 2 films. The TV series, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, is a better continuation of the story IMO, and the pilot episode is especially good.
You are my favorite new reactor. I love your energy and your look (especially your eyes). Please continue to do a variety of genres of films: comedy, rom-com, musical, SF, fantasy, action, adventure, animation, western, war, thriller, suspense, horror, etc.
I may have already suggested it but a great early rom-com is "It Happened One Night" (1934) which won the 5 major Oscars: Best Picture, Director, Actor, Actress, and Adapted Screenplay. Another of my favorites, a historical romantic comedy-drama, is "Shakespeare in Love" (1998) which won Best Picture, Actress and Screenplay plus 4 more Oscars and has had almost no reaction videos on youtube.
I was allowed to go see this movie at the theater because my mom thought it was about airplanes, I'm still laughing to this day. Fun fact John's friend was the singer for Bad 4 Good witch the drummer is now in Avenged Sevenfold.
I always knew John's friend as Budnick.

Robert Patrick trained so hard for this role as the T-1000. Learning to run full speed only breathing through his nose, and he was fast enough a sprinter that he actually caught the dirt bike in the mall parking garage. He was so amazingly intimidating in this movie. When he's more intimidating than Arnold, that's impressive as heck.
When the orderly licks Sarah in the hospital, that was apparently one of the catatonia tests done by unethical or sadistic orderlies according to an old friend of mine who had worked in a few psych hospitals, mainly in California, back in the late 70s and early 80s. It wasn't unusual for patients to try to get an advantage by pretending to be catatonic, hoping that the staff would think that they were out of it and not pay much attention so they could try to escape or whatever. Licking someone's face was a mild way of testing, according to my friend. The more standard way of testing among the more brutal orderlies was what was called a cup check, basically hitting the person in the crotch as hard as they could with a broomstick or something like that (the tonfa, shown in the movie, or a billyclub, wasn't standard when he was working in the field, so the evil jerks had to use other items like broomsticks). If they didn't react then they were catatonic. And, sometimes, the catatonic patients needed to be taken to the hospital due to the damage inflicted by whatever the orderly did causing ruptures or internal damage. Apparently one patient lost his testicles as it was several days before it was realized how badly he had been hurt. And, of course, no one ever knew how it happened. “He musta fallen, or done it to himself to try to get out of here.” My friend never missed that job. He told me that some people did things worse than that, but those stories don't need repeating.
There are actually two sets of twins in this movie. The other set are the brothers who played the security guard at Pescadero and the T-1000 imitating him. Sadly Linda's sister Lesley, a nurse in real life, passed away a few years ago.
I remember learning that Cameron got a letter from a group of scientists congratulating him for the most realistic depiction of a nuclear detonation in a city in Sarah's nightmare. This horrified him since he was just trying to create the most over the top terrifying image he could, only to discover that it was accurate.
Luckily, Sarah stepped back from Terminator mode before killing Dyson, which is good. Though killing Dyson wouldn't have changed much of anything. Cyberdyne still would have had the parts, all his notes, and everything they needed to complete the project. Judgment Day would have come anyway. The excellent Joe Morton, who played Dyson, had an accident that punctured a lung when he was younger, so he knew firsthand how Dyson should be breathing/gasping at the end.
The extended edition had two advantages over the standard edition. Though it wasn't obvious in its performance, the continuous damage the T-1000 was taking from every shot that hit it and every impact was affecting it. It is most obvious at the scene in the smelting plant after being shattered when, as we saw, its feet tended to take on the aspect of the flooring as it walked and, in the extended edition, when it grabbed a railing its hand mimicked the paint job on the railing. Also, in the extended edition, at the final scene when Sarah is calling out for John, he looks down and sees that the fake Sarah's feet look like the ironwork that the T-1000 is standing on and he knows for sure which to trust.
The extended edition ending is also superior for one more reason: it ends with older Sarah sitting on a playground bench and watching her adult son playing with her granddaughter, meaning that this Terminator movie is absolutely the end of the franchise, and all the movies that steal the name of the series after this are just lame cash grabs and can and should be avoided like the plague, in my opinion.

I get your point about why you prefer the alternate ending, but I agree with why it was cut. I think it clashes with the tone of the film. I prefer the open ending of the other editions. The Terminator franchise at this stage is one big multiverse of parallel tinelines anyway so that even without a definite end to T2 we could still disregard everything after it as just stuff that happened in an alternate universe.

And yes, it is awful that some horrible people search for positions where they can do horrible things and get away with it. As my friend told me, back in the days of no security cameras except in the pharmacy and often inadequate supervision, he was surprised that there weren't more severe injuries or even fatalities. He told me that at least one of the worst co-workers he had did end up serving life in prison when he was caught abusing an elderly person at another facility after he was fired from the psych hospital.

Actually I agree with you completely about the rolling wet roadway ending being stylistically and tonally the absolute best. It is my favorite ending, no question. The part of me that prefers happy endings does like the normal everyday John living happily in undestroyed California and playing with his daughter on the playground. But that's not good enough for it to be my preferred ending.
