'94 was a huge year for Jim. The Mask, Ace Ventura, and Dumb & Dumber catapulted him to mainstream stardom, but I will always remember his start on In Living Color.
Fire Marshall Bill.
Loved In Living Color...nothing was sacred.
@@bintheredonethat same here 🎉
Fire Marshal Bill and Vanilla Ice. That's all you need to know.
@@paulstelter8273 don't forget Vera, with the pigtails!
It was actually Cameron Diez's first film appearance. When she walked out of the rain in that red dress everyone's jaw hit the floor at the same time in the theatre.

"There's something about Mary" was her best movie, at least for me. But I think our friend is still too young to react to that movie.

I just binge watched your channel to this point. Love your reactions and sense of humor, they are a lot of fun! As for the Mask, these CGI effects were pretty ground-breaking at the time, though it helps they didn’t have to be photorealistic due to the cartoony theme of the film.
According to what I heard from Paul Harvey, Jim Carrey decided during his childhood to not grow up to be his dad. He followed a very different path, until this movie. Playing Stanley Ipkis was very much like playing his father. The perennial nice guy that everyone walked all over.
The saddest part of the "loaner" gag is that the car, in good condition, is a masterpiece. If you're curious it's called a Studebaker.
Your editing it great! No jump cuts, no call outs no weird blurring or frames or zooming or anything around the movie.
Sincerely,
A guy who used to edit on 3/4 inch tape.
Never thought I'd find someone who enjoys watching and researching movies as much as I do.
Jim Carrey in The Truman Show. A movie I can watch over and over and still smile.
Fun fact about the auto mechanic shop: You've seen the place before. It's a former fire station in Los Angeles and interior shots were used in Ghostbusters for their business. Exterior shots were of another station in NYC.
If you got a kick out of the live action + cartoonish mix, you'll really dig "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?". Jim Carey is very talented, but there is a fine line between outrageously funny and flat out ignorant, which he walks perilously.
I always thought Jim was very much walking that line - some movies with him are great, but many turn me off. I don't know how much stock to put into the stories of what he is like as a person (ie there's some dark stories out there, stalking-type behaviour toward ex gfs etc)... but that has certainly flavoured my opinion of him in recent years, too...
Roger Rabbit, yes! And there's something cartoonish about The Rocketeer, too, even if it's not really cartoonish in the Mask and Roger Rabbit way. It's more live action cartoony. But still very good, and it has a very young Jennifer Connelly as the leading lady!
I just wanted to tell you I really enjoy your movie reactions. I actually saw The Mask in a movie theater when it came out in 1994.
If you want to see Jim Carrey in a non-comedic role, “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” is a really rather splendid piece of cinematography.
Uhh... "cable guy"?
Or, in a not-wholly comic role, the Truman Show.
Bro watch the movie dark crimes with Jim carrey it's a very serious dark movie
The number 23
@@nsasupporter7557 Dark comedy. A guy lives out tv roles.
Fun fact: Jim Carrey said that he wanted the character of Stanley Ipkiss to be interesting both with and without the Mask, so people wouldn't get bored with it, so he based a lot of Stanley's personality on his father.
I was 11 yrs old when this came out in theaters, there was tie in deals at burger king, buy a whopper get a free mask toy. I went to BK for weeks trying to collect every toy but never could get them all 🥲This movie holds a special place in my heart as a Canadian.
Whimsory: "when I used to see the cover when I was a kid...."
Me: ... like, two years ago....
The Mask is one of the most OP characters of all time because his mere presence shapes reality to his will. If he feels like doing a cartoon bit the world will play along and there's nothing you can do about it.
26:23 "Not because I look like Tyson Beckford
With the charm of Robert Redford
Oozing out my ears
But what she sees
Are my faults and indecisions
My insecure conditions
And the tears upon the pillow that I shed."
Jim Carrey once played in a TV movie. A drama called, "Doing Time On Maple Drive." He was much younger and it really debuts his serious acting abilities. He was excellent portraying the troubled alcoholic brother.
"You either really like him or you really hate him"
It's all about dosage. Five minute sketches on "In Living Color" are fine. 90 solid minutes of "Ace Ventura" can be a bit much. "The Mask" was fun because it was like a Looney Tunes version of The Hulk in which mild-mannered Stanley Ipkiss transforms into Jim Carrey for brief scenes, then turns back into Ipkiss. "Liar Liar" was fun because he's obnoxious turned all the way up, but he's *suffering* for the entire movie, and it's fun to watch him squirm...
8:15 "Milo, get the keys."

A reaction channel without any fake reactions. How rare. Never subbed so quick.
Your edits are on point and your reviews at the end of each video are fantastic! I also like your notes… made me chuckle.
1:27: I guess that's because Edge City is fictional. The setting of Edge City is, of course, Los Angeles. The Edge City Bank in which nerdy Stanley Ipkiss (Jim Carrey) works, is the familiar old Bank of America Building at 650 Spring Street, downtown L.A.
The mechanic’s shop is the same set as the firehouse headquarters in GHOSTBUSTERS.
Didn't know that. Always thought it looked familiar
You are so freaking adorable 🥰 these reactions are a delight!
she's pretty cute
this was one of my favorite movies as a kid. still love watching it to this day
Wait what!? Blockbuster? There's no way, you look so young! 🤯
The reaction at 16:24 tickled me 😁
The first time that I watched this movie was at a drive in theater in Oklahoma. And I remember shouting "That dog is not gonna put that fucking mask on!" I was like 9 years old LoL
BTW, yeah, Jim's Canadian. Another of our great comedians who've headed south. You're welcome.
"Dead meat" was 80's, not nineties. It was made famous by "Mr T" from Rocky III
12:04 Ages ago, I asked a young lady if she wanted to learn how to _swing_ dance. She didn't know what I meant, so I showed her this movie and emphasized this particular scene. "That's swing dancing. Would you like to learn how to do that?"
Wide-eyed, she replied, "I don't think I would have the _energy_ for that."
This was a lot of fun, and you analysis at the end was great. Keep up the good work. 😁😁
This movie was based more on the cartoon than the comic. The cartoon was a tame version where the masks powers were changed to make them only as dangerous as the user, and a single wearer (stanley) who was very not dangerous. The comic mask is violent, powerful and makes wearers insane. The cartoon mask is powerful, but stanley is a cartoon lover with the heart of a hero, and the powers of a useless manchild. The mask gives him the ability to fight crime as a cartoonish antihero, rather than a dereanged killer. The show was so popular that a live action movie was welcomed, and they got the cartoon king, Ace Ventura (Jim Carey), to play him.
Ace ventura: pet detective, was amazing, and brought the same energy as the mask cartoon, so the stars aligned with Jim Carey appearing around that time.
The Ace Ventura movies, and subsequent cartoons/games, were a big hit, and definitely worth checking out for the comedy if youre into slapstick and animals.
Talking about nostalgia... yeah I teared up in the Finale watching this reaction lol. It hit me with the nostalgia feels
One of Jim's best works!!!
Glad I found your channel. Your reactions are so much fun to watch.
I've never come across your channel before. And I thought I found all the movie reactor channels. You have very mesmerizing eyes :)
The Mask (Ipkiss) does not kill anyone (unless Tyrell drowned), but he did SA the shady mechanics with phallic car parts.
As twenty somethings watching this on VHS, seeing Cameron enter the movie world was like a nuke going off.
I love the analisis you make of the movies.
I saw this movie in the theater, it was a new kind of hilarious movie: perfect acting from all, the script was perfect, the humor was on point.and the special effects perfect.
For me it was the first time i saw both, Cameron Diaz and Jim Carrey and I loved them both.
Glad you liked it.
Liar Liar with Jim Carrey is also very good.
Another one of my favorites! I especially like how everyone else in Edge City is taking indisputable proof of magic, the supernatural, and the existence of Norse Gods really, REALLY well.
Classic! I love your reactions Whimsory, always a good day when you post a video
At the beginning of the movie, when Jim Carrey opens his desk drawer we can see a Looney Toones magazine. That gives a hint of what is going to happen.
When Mr Mask (let's call him that) is watching Cameron Diaz perform at the club, he imitates a cartoon of a wolf in an identical situation, which appeared in an old animated story (I think from the 1950s).
When Mr. Mask is with her in the park, he imitates the famous skunk Pepé Le Pew, who speaks with a French accent; that is why Mr. Mask adopts a French cartoon appearance
Diaz is very cute and funny here -- and yes, impressively so considering she was 22 and had only done modeling work before this.
But I think many of us would agree the funniest movie she's done is THERE"S SOMETHING ABOUT MARY (1998). (it's #27 on the American Film Institute's list of the 100 funniest American movies)
Only yesterday I reviewed the reactions to two wonderful films of the mid-nineties))) Mask and Mortal Kombat)))
Imagine Whimsory with the Mask. 6:44 the cut and sound effect from the movie fit so well lol
Jim Carrey’s talent is such that writers basically just make up some odd scenarios and let him do his thing…and it was box office gold.
This, Ace Ventura, Liar Liar, etc…”ok, so we’ll just turn the cameras on and let Jim start going, then we’ll edit it into a 90 minute movie & make millions” lol
“The effects would be devastating if anything like The Mask ever terrorized its way into existence”. I expect more statements like this in the future, thank you.
Wasn’t aware of the comic book. Thanks for that tidbit of info.
I fallen in love for this girls whinsory, the cutest ever omg
Whimsory, being whimsical..thought I'd get that one in. Luvved the film and your reaction.
My Lord! Whim may be the cutest thing I've ever seen.
The funniest quote of the night, is when you said, " just tell them you're pooping.... "
Jim Carey's best movie is Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Not a comedy like most of his movies, but one that is in my top 5 movies of all time.

Another awesome reaction video i almost forgot about how much fun this movie is it's been ages since I've seen it I definitely need to rewatch it for sure
The guy who played the mask expert was the same guy that played the teacher in Ferris Bueler day off.
Milo the unsung hero, kinda like R2-D2 in Star Wars
"Tell him you're pooping". Whims friggin' win.
Hmm, I now wonder if damaging the floor was indirectly done to get Stanley off for the carpet, since the landlady's insurance would now be fixing the floor and carpet.
Milo is the cutest of puppers.
This is my favorite Jim Carey movie. Today was the first time one of your videos was recommended to me by RUclips. I have to start by saying you have the cutest little face (w/ big eyes). I love Jim Carey's movies. "Yes Man" and "Liar, Liar" are 2 other great comedies. Zooey Deschanel is in Yes Man, so that's a bonus. She has one of the cutest little faces too, just like you.
"Start dancin I'll blow your brains out" has to be my favorite line.
This is one of the top 250 movies?
Dang.
Thank you for sharing your reaction to this.
love this movie! when i was a teen i dressed up as Cuban Pete for halloween! one of my best costumes ever.
Hahahahaha! Please tell me you had the maracas and the dance moves.
On the informations, that's correct. If they ever decide to reboot The Mask they should make it like the comic - gritty, violent and rated-R. Since the comic is basically an anthology in the same style as American Horror Story it could be a TV-show or a mini-series. They actually did plan to make a legit sequel with Jim Carrey back and there's an issue of Nintendo Power where you could enter a contest and If you won you could be an extra in that movie. I even heard that Cameron Diaz's character would have been using the mask as well - But it got cancelled, Jim Carrey even lost interest and he barely likes doing sequels, he didn't even wanna do Ace Ventura 2 but he had to because of contract obligations. But he has been more open to it in later years since he did make Dumb and Dumber 2. And the Nintendo Power contest winner obviously didn't get to be an extra so instead he got a bunch of games and a jacket I believe.
The sequel that got made instead was horrendous! I liked Jim Carrey back then and I even love him more now after learning how much of an improv guy he really is and what he would do for certain characters he has played. As a theatre actor, that's impressive and inspirational! =D =)
I was in the video story when this little kid, 5 or 6, brought her mom Boogie Nights and asked if she could watch it.
Mom looked at the cover and said, "Sure."
I was really surprised so I asked the mom, "Really? You're going to let her watch that?"
Mom asked why not but I didn't want to say out loud with the kid right there so I just said, "Read the back."
Mom's eyes just got bigger and bigger as she read and finally she told her daughter to find some other movie.
The kid was mad at me but I just said, "It's not a kids movie. You would just find it really boring."
You just got a new subscriber! I enjoyed your reaction to this crazy, awesome movie! 🙂
"You can't see anyone else in this role" ... *Michael Winslow* could be a contender, he certainly has the noises down ... and he isnt that "non-weird" either, but he never got more than a supporting role.
Whimsory is so next level it's amazing
Okay, when I saw you were doing The Mask I had to go look over this 200 greatest movie list you've talked about, and Mask is not on there. **whew** LOL! You had me worried for a minute! And then I watched your intro and realized this was a suggestion. Actually as I read through it though, a lot of the movies on that list are pretty suspect. SO many Marvel movies? And Die Hard 3 and Evil Dead 2?? Seriously? Greatest ever? Oi. That being said, they ARE fun movies for sure, and I guess that list is as good a place to start as any. You're doing a great job with your reactions, Whimsory, and as long as you are having fun watching the movies, that's what counts. Movies are always a matter of taste anyway, and you can't please everybody all the time, so it's good you are allowing yourself to have some fun. 😄
Like the Terminator.....Shes back!!!!! Glad to see your face. (:
You seeing Tin Man made me appreciate this channel so much more. Such an underrated series
22:50 Bless you & thank you! 🙏🙏🙏
Binged some vids, sold on Whimsory... subbed.
Love your reactions! The Mask can be a bit scary sometimes, and that's basically because the director made horror movies in the 80's (A Nightmare on Elm Street 3, The Blob). Regarding the sequel, I must say that Son of The Mask is nightmare fuel lol...
I remember watching this movie and when Cameron Diaz made her big entrance the guy next to me said in this almost religiously awed voice "GOD, I hope she can act!"
Milo kind of sounds like Muttley when he laughs. lol 😆
The most adorable reactor, love the reactions!
Diaz is no match for the cuteness of Whimsory.
Whimsory you are great with your reactions thanks.
One of Jim's best. Very happy you did it :)
Really great reactions, and overall a great video. Very entertaining and enjoyable, plus great selection of films.
"Knight And Day," the last film I saw Cameron Diaz in, would be a good bookend to this movie.
3:21 This moment is indicative of what makes you unique in this very crowded space. Made me laugh, and rewind a few times. Keep being you, keep doing great work and your audience will continue to grow!
It's very rarely I find a movie that funny but I cracked up laughing at this one. Cuban Pete was the funniest bit
It was fairly well done special effects and cgi for the 90's. It sure as heck boggled my mind as a kid. I hadn't seen anything quite like it before.
I plan on doing some editing to water it down even more and take out the creepy demonic-looking Dorian guy and stuff, and showing it to my niece & nephews.
Jim My favorite actor.
This is a great movie, thank you for reacting to it. It’s also a really good super hero movie, just be careful about everything that comes afterwards involving it if you want more of it
Another good one. Keep it up! Wish you could do twice a week. I don't usually watch these types of videos but you come across like a fun friend. Cant wait until you do the Coen brothers films!
I think Carey has a serious movies. I think it was 23. Anyway, thanks for this one which is fun.
