  • The Mask Reaction is today's video! Hey everyone! Join me as I watch The Mask for the first time and die laughing!
When timid bank clerk Stanley Ipkiss (Jim Carrey) discovers a magical mask containing the spirit of the Norse god Loki, his entire life changes. While wearing the mask, Ipkiss becomes a supernatural playboy exuding charm and confidence which allows him to catch the eye of local nightclub singer Tina Carlyle (Cameron Diaz). Unfortunately, under the mask's influence, Ipkiss also robs a bank, which angers junior crime lord Dorian Tyrell (Peter Greene), whose goons get blamed for the heist.

The Mask unleashes your deepest personality. Stanley is a love hungry, Looney Tunes loving, nervous introvert. When he puts on the mask, he goes out looking for love as an extrovert and basically demonstrates everything he’s ever seen in cartoons.

19:03 there is actually a crossover comic _Joker/Mask_ and bunch of others that came after the revision of Mask's character. The original _The Mask_ comics that spawned this movie are actually gory and our "hero" not very heroic. This movie is an extremely watered down and altered comedy focused version of the first comic's story.
After the success of this movie, The Mask's character was changed a bit to focus more on the comedy, Stanley Ipkiss became the main user of the Mask and an animated TV series was made. I saw couple episodes of it as a kid and later on this movie. Then found out about the comics and read as many as I found. They are something else

The creators of the game God of War Ragnarok were asked this question about the mask, if they took that inspiration from the movie or something similar, and they said NO, but that it is a crazy coincidence that both masks are made of wood, and are connected to Loki. The material from which the story of The Mask is adapted is much different from this movie, the mask still has the same powers, but it has no problems with killing a large groups of people, it can be compared to the Deadpool stories including the humor.

Can never go wrong with a classic. I grew up with this film and watched it all the time. I had no idea at the time that it was based from the comics, which mind is much darker, violent and more gritty than what was shown here but still retains its dark and witty humor. Stanley in the comics was kind of an asshole who was also petty and had grudges against people he felt had wronged him. He was also not nice to his girlfriend either. Also note, its kind of unknown of how the Mask was created but its implied to have came from an unknown time in Africa, using techniques of secret and mystical knowledge by African shamans. In the film, they changed it to being created from Loki. The Mask was basically Deadpool before Deadpool even became a thing
This was also the movie that made a generation of guys like myself to have a crush on Cameron Diaz. The effects still hold up from well after these years better than most films these days! Ironically enough, I was actually listening to the musical score earlier today by composer Randy Edelman while at work. A very underrated composer too. All and all, great movie and it never gets old to see the looks on people's faces when they watch this lol. Glad you enjoyed it man! Love the hair too!!

Oh to answer your question about what does the mask does. Pretty much near limitless abilities such as: reality warping, elasticity, duplication, superhuman speed, energy projection, time/matter and energy manipulation, telekinesis, telepathy, astral projection, precognition, levitation, healing, size manipulation, nigh-omniscience, enhanced strength, endurance, reflexes, agility and stamina.
Almost nothing can kill whoever wears the Mask and can be immortal. The only ways to kill them is if they're not wearing it. In other words, The Mask is pretty OP.

The two best movies staring Jim are A Series of Unfortunate Events and Man on the Moon - but his best acting performance was in Kickass 2.

Funny Fact Cody. Jim Carry was really funny in that movie. The mask is the best cartoon like movie to me. I also like to say that it is totally terrific with Cameron Diaz and Jim Carry. I actually liked it too.

Did you know those teeth were only supposed to be temporary but Jim Carrey was able to talk throughout the whole movie with those teeth? That's amazing talent!

Jim Carrey is the best. It’s also interesting because Dorian with the mask was more accurate to The Mask in the comics

10:36 has that kind of sneaking ever worked?
13:00 look how sad he is that his balloon got popped.
13:24 'nah I'm just gonna eff with people instead.'
14:41 Mask: nope! I'm gonna stay right here, this is gonna be fun.
18:05 there's an open jar of peanut butter on the nightstand cos that was how they got the dog to lick at Jim Carreys ear but they forgot to take the jar away before shooting the scene.
23:33 the guys in the back and Dorian fixing themselves up.
24:47 well it makes more sense than Stanley being at the CocoBongo while wearing his pajamas.
30:13 you could apply that to the alter ego of any superhero/supervillain, that part of us in the back of our minds that we try to keep under wraps.
42:29 I think the mask just likes cartoons in general, cos it makes Dorian do that kind of stuff too, the fact it met Stanley who likes cartoons as well was just a lucky coincidence.
    44:36 joke russell terrier
45:56 well whatever, the oompa loompas have got him now.
46:36 see that could've been the sequel, Kelloway sees Milo run off with the mask/investigates and gets a hold of it somehow/misguided crusading and Stanley has to stop him while overcoming his insecurity of needing the mask back. Kelloway was in the comic so why not?
