High On Fire - Cometh The Storm
A release that came outta nowhere for me is a band called Moisson Livide and their album Sent Emperi Gascon. They combine a mix of black metal with folk (French folk instruments) and heavy metal. It’s a unique style to my ears and the opening track might be the best thing I’ve heard all year. Lots of great choices on your list. I have a feeling that Ulcerate, Castle Rat, Dodsrit, and Necrophobic will be contenders for me.
I honestly thought you would include the latest My Dying Bride album, I loved that album.
Newest Gatecreeper album was ace too.
Did enjoy that too, gatecreeper was alright as well

Amazing list Questy. I think Irjala by Dodsrit may be the song of the year. Saidan is great as well. You should definetly check out Zorza's new album, beautiful album cover by the way.
Really nice list. Other people have mentioned some good black metal I would also add, but I havent seen anyone mention Heavy Metal Wraiths by Morgul Blade. Enjoyed that album a lot
Sworn's A Journey Told Through Fire is definitely a stand out. Kanonenfieber's new album Die Urkatastrophe and Dark Tranquillity's new album Endtime Signals will probably also be on my list.

The new Judas Priest album is my album of the year. I also really like the new Necrot, Coffins, Inquisition, Saxon, Necrophobic, and Pallbearer albums. I still need to check out the new Ulcerate, Mutiilation, and Aquilus albums. I've great things about both Castle Rat and Dodsrit and definitely want to check those bands and those specific albums out.
You would like that new Thou, a very heavy album
Dödsrit is my AOTY atm.. But in about 4 minutes "Inherits the void" new will premiere, so it can be changed..
If you want something similar to Aquilus/Opeth, you should check out Piah Mater - Under the Shadow of a Foreign Sun. It sounds like a bridge between old Opeth and Aquilus.

The Crawlings “ Bound to be negative “ is a song that’s grown on me 👍
The two best that pop into mind for me are Darkspace -II and Burzum land of Thule
If the burzum one is fully official then yeah it’s just I’m not sure if more songs will be added to it yet
I would add Aurelian - Flavian Fury to this list. It's like Arghoslent and Grenadier except with the catchiness of the riffs turned up to 11. So fucking good

I heard a premiere of that new Ulcerate...as a new listener of that band, I immediately ordered the vinyl....It is so damn good it's silly!
Question! Are you looking forward to the new Cradle of filth album? Also If you're into black metal there's band called Dhishti Heavily underrated and super talented check them out they are from my country :).
What about the new EP from Rival Appliances? They have a 2 yr old lead singer who sounds like a daemon from hell!

Personal favorite so far is Replicant - Infinite Mortality
New Pallbearer and Chapel of Disease are tied for me. I think you'd really enjoy the new album from Ætheria Conscientia called The Blossoming. It's really weird, progressive atmospheric black metal from France.

Griffon - De Republica is my pick for best album of the 1st half of 2024.
The Inquisition album slapped.
Listened to it in full in that reaction vid of it you made.
The JP album is pretty decent so far.
But the Saxon one is just so mid.
Gotta listen to Castle Rat at some point.
