I saw Led Zeppelin on their first 4 tours. After seeing the first two tours, I went ready to get my mind blown away again. Well, they blew me away, but not in the way I expected. After their first 4/5 songs, they pulled up chairs to the edge of the stage and sat down and began their acoustic set. Robert asked everyone to be patient, and please allow yourselves to feel the music. At first a few people yelled, "We Wanna Rock" and such, but halfway through that first song, you could have heard a pin drop, and we all fell into the music and flew away. After that, I remember they came back and rocked us hard, but I'll never forget that acoustic set. I watched with my elbows on the stage as it swirled around me. Magical evening for sure..

I gotta thank you so much for changing my entire experience with music. Never a big music guy I grew up in the 70s just me and my Mom with a steady diet of Manilow and Debbie Boone. I stumbled across this video and it lit a fire in me. Not to get to heavy but my wife died 2 months back and this musical journey has been good for the soul. Keep em coming.

My condolences to you. Music, they say, is a salve for the soul. You at the beginning of a wondrous journey down a river flowing since time immemorial, fed by a myriad of tributaries and confluences, that is as deep as it is wide. As with any epic journey there is danger and It can be daunting, but Dylan is an excellent guide to get you started and help you navigate some of the deadlier rapids. But there are many other excellent RUclipsrs you should checkout that can redirect you if you feel you've gotten lost or stuck after taking a branch away from the main flow (like the Disco stream, for example lol). Good luck and enjoy the ride my friend.

In 1974 The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway by Genesis came out,it was different to their previous stuff but it blew me away, here we are 50 years later and I'm still listening to it now, that takes some doing for a double album with a story running through it and some really strange parts to it but when listened to it about 20 times makes perfect sense,Gabriel's voice is amazing and fits the songs so good,I'm not going to pick any favourite tracks out for the same reason if you had 5 children you couldn't pick a favourite,it's the whole album that's why it's remained my favourite of all time.❤

Did an electric set, then came back and did an amazing acoustic set and finished off with another electric set - unforgettable. Zep III, a classic, like you I love their acoustic stuff - so good. Happy New Year. Cheers Doug

I like how diverse your interests are. My friend and I were discussing radio now vs. 50 years ago. In the 70's, we could hear country, funk, pop, hard rock and other genres on the same station. Now everything is compartmentalized on separate Sirius stations. We need diversity (and not just in music!) LOL I'm off my soapbox now!

  • @JimmyRJump

Your list is absolutely right. Because, hey!, it's your list and no-one can ever change that. The fact that some folk will disagree means that those folk don't care about your integrity. I'm not one to too often chop down a comment on what is a very personal statement, because I respect the statement too much for what it is. Something that comes from within and is a unique to the person speaking. I've been subscribed for over a year (I think) and appreciate your posts. I have close to twenthy-six thousand albums and EPs (plus some single boxes) on my WinAmp juke-box (the CDs are in a storage space in 77 banana boxes) and I agree with you, not because I agree, but because I (like you) it's not my place to dis-agree. All the best for the new year, Noble.

I am a brit and a pensioner - grew up in the late sixties and early seventies. I am culturally somewhat different from yourself and somewhat older ....
But my top 10 record list is a 60% match for yours which my record collection over the last 55+ years has been built and developed - some records I loved when I was 16 I now do not like at all - there are new bands which have caught my interest recently. However the mainstream of my top 10 are those I liked at 15 and still like today - they are timeless classics that have not faded. Back in 1969 "In the Court of the Crimson king" was released and it blew me away - but now I rarely listen to it as it is sort of dated. A year later the Moody Blues released "Question of Balance" which I think is as fresh today as when I first heard it.
    So where did we match
    1. Wish you were here
    2. Abbey Road
    3. Black Sabbath
    4. Zombies - but a different release but with "Time of the Season" and "She's not there"
    5. Led Zeppelin III
    6. Nirvava but the "All of us" album featuring Rainbow chaser.
    Vive la Differance :-)

I listened to your top 10 list today. It was a great listening session. I already had everything but Funkadelic, Soul Station on Album/LP. (I'm 65 so it's generally an album for me 😂 Although, I have to keep referring to them as vinyl records for a lot of younger folks).
I streamed what I didn't have on Tidal.
I was completely unfamiliar with Funkadelic but absolutely blown away with the title track Maggot Brain. To me it was like Pink Floyd and Hendrix put something together. I had to hear it several times. The rest was good but man that first song is killer.
Thanks for turning me on to that. I really enjoy your channel and regularly use your recommendations to stream music before buying albums.

My copy of s/t also has a nice story. I bought it from a former Tomato-Employee (the successor label to Poppy; has the same owner). He in turn sold this LP (and others) on behalf of a friend who was a salesman at Tomato at the time and drove Townes from gig to gig. He didn't tell me this before the sale (so that I would pay a higher price, for example), but only afterwards, when the record had already been shipped, during a conversation about loving townes-music.
I printed out the email and put it in my copy.
Love that you mentioned Townes. He is my absolute all-time favorite singer-songwriter, too!
I've collected all the albums he's put out on Poppy over the years as Poppy first pressings - all with original inner sleeve and in nearly perfect shape. Our Mother the Mountain was still unopened in shrink. The greatest pride of my collection!
I also had several copies of the s/t album and yes, they are noisy. That's just the way it is - whatever. It's heartbreaking and i love it!

Hey Dillon I can relate to 90% of what you like. Don’t know Hank Mobley but my jazz knowledge is mainly Miles Davis. I really tried to like Townes Van Zant but couldn’t get into it. That being said I really love the rest of your list! Just one question. Which version of the Black Sabbath album did you choose? British or American?

Man… Your tastes are very similar to mine. Black Sabbath, Zeppelin 3, Bleach, Jar of Flies, Abbey Road, and Odyssey & Oracle are all favorites, although sadly, I own none of them on vinyl (yet). I know I could just order them, but I love just going to the shop and finding stuff, so I’ll be patient lol. Been into vinyl for almost 30 years now, and unfortunately lost my old original collection which has a lot of great stuff in it, so I started rebuilding recently. Found a great record shop locally here in San Diego, but far from my work where I find most of my records.
In the 90’s, I lived and worked near Tower Records in Los Angeles, so I used to spend my entire paycheck there more often than I’d like to admit 🤣🤣
Great stuff, man, love this channel.

Mid-late '80s, my job sent me to Ottawa, Ontario, Canada a couple of times through the winter. On one trip, Doug, a co-worker and CF on our ball team, knocked on my hotel door and asked if I wanted to go to the bar and catch a singer songwriter he liked. I had no idea who it was. We sat front and center, there were maybe 20 people in attendance. There were two barstools onstage, one had a guitar leaning against it, with an ashtray on top. The other had a mic stand in front. A few years later, I walk into the music store. I stopped at the cashier and asked the young man what he was listening to. I had heard it before but couldn't remember where. He walked me over to the bins and handed me Rear View Mirror by Townes, the guy from the Ottawa bar. I love Steve Earle and El Corizon would be on my list. The albums release was pushed back while he recorded a late addition for the record, Fort Worth Blues, a tribute to his friend TVZ, who had just passed. Big Skynyrd fan, but my favorite all time is Springsteen. Both bands have a Van Zandt in them. Impressed by your knowledge and variety of music.

Discovered your channel just over a month ago and it's already one of my favorites. One thing I immediately noticed, like you mentioned in this video, is how a lot of rock acts you recommend sound like or have some obvious Black Sabbath influence. And on that, if there's one modern band I'd highly highly recommend is All Them Witches. It's not exaggeration when I say they're easily one of greatest bands of the 21st century
