I don't even like death metal, but I heard Rivers of Nihil in a playlist and their music has something so memorable, I can listen to the entire album and enjoy it. Speaks volumes for their musical talent. They are so good, they trancent the genre and bring new fans in.
Deafheaven is awesome. Fuck the haters. If music genres weren't allowed to evolve, blues would have never inspired rock, rock would have never inspired metal. Glad you guys acknowledge and respect the album even if it's not your cup of tea. 🤘
@mooky Are you serious?, metal comes from rock, folk, classic, jazz, comes from everywhere... Zep comes from folk and they influenced Metal, Purple comes from Classical and blues and they influenced Metal...are you really sure that every guy from the orginal metal movement were NOT listening to rock?
@mooky so? That was just a statment, they loved the Beatles, iommi played in Jethro Tull...is really weird your statment when you can see the traces of the influences, from blues, to zep to purple, to sabbath to priest to maiden to metallica to pantera to etc. Please give me one interview from one original metal guy that says "we were not influenced by rock"
The "blackgaze" sound is one that immediately made sense to me. I'm not even going to entertain the purist gatekeepers and their overly tight undies who claim it's not metal. I totally get why it doesn't appeal to some, but this offshoot of metal has been my style of the past decade. In the 80s it was thrash for me. In the 90s, it was discovering the Euro metal scene like Tiamat, the Gathering, etc, alongside black metal. The 00s were the one decade where nothing really jumps out as ear catching, so maybe that's why the 10s and blackgaze have been interesting to me. Moreover, it also feels like the last 3-4 years have just been a bombardment of great metal albums of all flavors and styles, so it's a great time to be alive for it.
I'm not even going to entertain those, all too often people entirely ignorant of genres like screamo and shoegaze, who insist so hard that it is metal, and black metal in particular.
mooky Righto. Just repeat that ad nauseum and at some point it will become the truth, right? Your comment reeks of ignorance. Good to see the vast majority of people do not agree with you in the slightest.
Wow, so happy to see Mirror Reaper on the list. Well deserved, incredible album. I have listened to it many times through and never been bored, not once. Power Trip at 5? The community has not let us down!
There have been a lot of great metal releases in the 2010s decade but Slugdge's Esotoric Malacology has been my favorite metal album since its release. It is just the embodiment of everything I love about metal. It is such a fresh listen. It is how metal should be.
It’s a damn near flawless album , I’ve listened to this prog death masterpiece so many damn times. And it absolutely embodies everything I love about metal for sure.
Thanks so much for this video! These kinds of videos are really what radio stations used to be: places where you go to discover new music, to broaden your gaze and taste.
I always find it interesting when people so strongly hate this band but can never argue that they're bad. They definitely seem to have very strong impact on everyone when they hear it. Sunbather and New Bermuda are incredible records, who cares if they're "metal" or not.
There's been so much great Metal this decade, any of these albums deserve to be on a list, as do many others. For me, though, Judas Priest's 'Firepower' really did give me a lot of repeat listens and consistent joy. I think it's a true late-career masterpiece from the band.

Deafheaven is a fantastic band. So are Alcest ( and Kodama could easily be on this list). They are both completely interesting in a genre were conformity to certain rules can make the music stale.
My personal Top 10... *Enslaved* - Axioma Ethica Odini... Perhaps Enslaved's most consistent record outside of Isa, AEO combines black metal and psychedelic prog rock in a way that's both seamless and catchy. *Gorguts* - Colored Sands... Best comeback record of all time? The fact that it not only stands up to the incredible Obscura, but also surpasses it at times is a testament to how powerful this record is. *Blood Incantation* - Hidden History of the Human Race... Like Starspawn, Hidden History injects death metal with a much needed reminder of the genre's roots, all the while not sounding like nostalgia bait. Incredible effort! *Voivod* - The Wake... Voivod's best since Nothingface, which should speak volumes. *Artificial Brain* - Infrared Horizon... AB combine so many influences and nods to other bands and genres, but mold it into their own unique identity. Infrared Horizon is both brutal and beautiful, twisted and serene. *Mgla* - Exercises in Futility... Exercises is Mgla's crowning achievement thus far, giving black metal back its simplicity and power, without sounding like pastiche. *Blut Aus Nord* - Memoria Vetusta III: Saturnian Poetry... BAN's best since MVII, but also a reminder of how expansive black metal can sound in the right hands. *Deathspell Omega* - Paracletus... DsO distilled the essential components of their sound into Paracletus, and the result may be their best work. *The Ruins of Beverast* - Exuvia... Progressive, avant garde, cosmic, mind bending blackened doom from this incredible one-man act. *Ulcerate* - Shrines of Paralysis... Ulcerate's sound distilled into their most potent work to date. Monolithic death metal. *Taake* - Noregs Vaapen... okay, I cheated by adding an 11th record, but Taake's 5th record is too good to not include. Primal, oldschool BM the way grandpa used to make.
Solid list of bands/records. Personally I would add Teitanblood- Death, Dead Congratulation- Promulgation of the Fall, Witchrist- The grand tormentor, Vektor- Terminal Redux, Antimob- II
@@ConvincingPeople Fuck yeah !!! New Zealand has one of the best underground death/black metal scenes. Bands like Witchrist, Vassafor, Heresiarch, Diocletian etc, are stellar. It's a great shame that Witchrist are inactive for so long....
You guys are awesome! This probably wont make your list, but the album I got the most enjoyment from is Swallow the Sun's album, Songs from the North. It's doom, it's epic and long, but check out The Gathering of Black Moths. I look forward to part 2.
Even as a huge Tool fan and someone who enjoyed the album, it still really bums me out to see it on here when there were SO many more deserving choices.
And nevermind the genre issue (barely metal), 'Fear Inoculum' is not great. It's fine. It's good. It's not a fail. That's the best I can say about it, and for a wait if 13 years from a powerhouse like Tool, it's disappointing. So much safe rehashing. Just... sigh. Y'know?
My list in no particular order ! 1.Le'fant Sauvage - Gojira 2. The Migration - Scale the Summit 3. Let yourself be huge/ Woum - Cloudkicker 4. Koloss - Meshuggah 5. Portal of I - Ne Obliviscaris 6. Colored Sands/Pleiades dust - Gorguts 7. The direction of last things - Intronaut 8. The Sciences - Sleep 9. Once More around the sun - Mastodon 10. Love. Fear. and time machine - Riverside 11. Marrow of the Spirit - Agalloch 12. The Mountain - Haken 13. Return to Ommadawn - Mike Oldfield 14. Polaris - Tessearct 15. Woods 5: Grey Skies and Electric Night - Woods of Ypres 16. Conquering Dystopia - Conquesring Dystopia 17. The Assasination of Julius Ceasar - Ulver 18. The shape of colors /In time - Intervals 19. Stranger Heads Prevail - Thank You Scientist 20. King Animal - Soundgarden 25. Rainier Fog - AIC special mentions to - Beatles Remastered Mix of 2017,18,19....
I share the same views as Sam does on Tool's Fear Inoculum. It's still a great album though. Also, nice inclusion of Deafheaven's Sunbather. Sure, you don't like it but it's damn groundbreaking and influential. I love it.
1.Behemoth- Satanist 2. Vitriol- to bathe in the blood of cowardice 3. Rivers of Nihil- where owls know my name 4. Infant Annihilator- the battle of yaldabaoth 5. The black Dahlia murder- nightbringers
chim choo ree chim choo ree and believe me, saying I prefer After is absolutely no knock on Eremita. We are in total agreement about The Eagle and the Snake. It’s one my favorites from Ihsahn and one of my favorite guitar solos ever
As always, love the content, and finding something new. As soon as I heard that Sunbather clip, my hair stood on end... this is why I watch your show...
At war with Reality was a solid album and a worthy addition to the ATG catalogue but Surgical Steel was amazing. Might be my favorite Carcass album and thats saying a lot.
Opus and Meliora are both incredible records and either deserve a spot on this list. Too many metal dorks who are close minded and only listen to harsh vocals shit on them. News flash, you can listen to Ghost and Gojira and Behemoth and not be an insufferable prick.
Lets try to pick my top 10 of the decade... 🤔 Sleep - The Sciences Baroness - Gold And Grey Elder - Reflections Of A Floating World Yob - Clearing The Path To Ascend Alice In Chains - Rainier Fog Code Orange - Forever Conan - Revengeance Devin Townsend - Empath Gojira - Magma Periphery - Alpha/Omega But don't be fooled: Monster Magnet's Dopes To Infinity or Fu Manchu's King Of The Road are yet to be topped.
@@noahfaber8303 Agreed guys, if BGWTB was from this decade, I would have picked it. Simply the best comeback album ever recorded! In fact, I prefer the work of AIC post Staley... It's sad, maybe a bit controversial, but I love all 3 albums so much. All Secrets Known is the best come back opener ever written imho. Cheers!
1. Epica - The Holographic Principle 2. Xerath - II 3. The Agonist - Prisoners 4. Kreator - Phantom Antichrist 5. Kalmah - 12 Gauge 6. Machinae Supremacy - A View From The End Of The World 7. Amaranthe - Amaranthe 8. Fear Factory - Mechanize 9. Soilwork - The Living Infinite 10. Ne Obliviscaris - Citadel
Really need to stop procrastinating and get that goddamn Power Trip album! (Yes, I am that drunken 50 year old dude, Blayne.) I just keep hearing so much awesome stuff about it. Also, nice to see the Priest getting some love in this list. Happy new decade to the great folks at Banger, who do such a fantastic job. Much appreciated.
@@Phisker with 4 recs Banger reviewed and praised, and one (Deafheaven) most people haven't ever heard of the band? For fuck sake, the only killer album here is Mirror Reaper, which will hardly be in anybody decade list, because: 1. People who actually listen to funeral doom knows how beast this decade was for the genre, easily existing other preferences. 2. It is a fucking 1 hour 20 min song.
I know that is kinda controversial for a lot of Opeth fans out there, but in my list I would put Pale Communion, one of Opeth''s best without growls, all the songs on that record is just fucking good!!
Can't believe I just watched 31 minutes of two funky looking guys talking about metal. Jokes aside, you guys did a good job on this video, I'll have to check some of these albums out as I only started listening to it in early 2019. If you're doing your job right, which you are, you're bound to make someone excited to dive into quality music. Color me excited, because that's what I am right now.
My personal favorites (some are borderline rock) High on Fire - Snakes for the Divine Black Trip - Radar Uncle Acid - Bloodlust Graveyard - Hisingen Blues Watain - Lawless Darkness Accept - Blood of the Nations Hällas - Excerpts from a future past Jex Toth - Blood Moon Rise
Judas Priest did the best two albums ever in this decade. I loved every single second of Opeth's last 4 albums as a die hard My Arms Your Hearse fan. Steven Wilson's Hand Cannot Erase was out of this UNIVERSE. Riverside's Shrine of New Generation Slaves and Love, Fear and the Time Machine albums were amazing. Pain of Salvation's "The Passing Light of Day" was pretty amazing. Devin Townsend's Z² was amazing. It was a good decade for the prog fans.
Love the 5 skulls for Power Trip!! This record got me back into crossover!🤘🤘brought me right back to seeing D.R.I. at The Ritz in 89' ✌ timeless sound.
There’s a bunch of good metal ballads. Goodbye to Romance by Ozzy. Remember Tomorrow by Maiden (my personal favorite), and Metallica’s Nothing Else Matter (although over played) is always a classic.
Blayne gushing about mirror reaper is what I live for. His passion for the album and how excitedly he explains his reasoning is great to watch! I share your passion blaney boy
Got to see them open for Carcass right here in their very own hometown of Dallas last month. AND got to introduce both of those bands to a buddy of mine. Which was especially weird because he's obsessed with Napalm Death, and yet somehow completely missed out on Carcass until last month. Hahaha, bananas. Oh and a trash can got crowd surfed for a while. It really was like the most metal beach ball ever.
The people have spoken!! My list looks completely different. As well as many other fellow metalheads on here. One album that I cannot stop listening to is Allegaeon - Apoptosis. Although that is not my #1 of the decade.
My top 10 albums of the decade: (note, not a Black Metal fan) Star One - Victims Of The Modern Age (2010) In Flames - Sounds Of A Playground Fading (2011) Dawnbringer - Into The Lair Of The Sun God (2012) Devin Townsend Project - Sky Blue (2014) Dark Tranquility - Atoma (2016) Khemmis - Hunted (2016) Vektor - Terminal Redux (2016) Haken - Affinity (2016) Chelsea Wolfe - Hiss Spun (2017) Cellar Darling - The Spell (2019) So many honourable mentions including: Voyager - Meaning of I (2011), Anubis Gate - Anubis Gate (2011), Gojira - L'Enfant Sauvage (2012), Sabaton - Carolus Rex (2012), Pallbearer - Sorrow and Extinction (2012), Haken - The Mountain (2013), Within Temptation - Hydra (2014), Trials - The Ruined World (2015), Power Trip - Nightmare Logic (2017), Amorphis - Queen of Time (2018), Barren Earth - A Complex of Cages (2018), Ghost - Prequelle (2018), Orphaned Land - Unsung Prophets and Dead Massiahs (2018), Rammstein - Rammstein (2019), Tool - Fear Inoculum (2019) and loads more!
I will give this a go: 2010 : Saturday Morning Apocalypse - Powerglove 2011: One - TesseracT 2012: L'Enfant Sauvage - Gojira 2013: Halo Of Blood - Children Of Bodom 2014: Kill The Power - Skindred (its just about metal and some might not even count it but still badass) 2015: Juggernaut double album - Periphery 2016: The Serenity Of Suffering - Korn 2017: Ritual - In This Moment 2018: Sonder - Tesseract (struggled with this year but this is one amazing prog album) 2019: We Are Not Your Kind - Slipknot
Not a terrible list so far. Deafhean - 5/5. Not everyone cup of tea but will go down as a seminal album Judas Priest - 2/5. Lazy lyrics Bellwitch- 4/5. Fantastic album Tool 2/5. Bland and bloated Rivers of Nihil 4/5. Solid songwriting and great combining of genres. Powertrip 4.5/.5. People were looking for the next band to not only cross over genres but cross into the mainstream world and they have it here. If their 3rd album is a banger you could see the next torchbearer for metal
I agree with in almost every grade that you gave, but to me: Deafheaven - 4/5 Judas - 2/5 Bell Witch - 5/5 Fucking Amazing Record Tool - 4/5, to me its a great record Rivers - 4/5 Powertrip - 4.5/5
Wait, we're arguing about whether or not Sunbather is metal when Fear Inoculum is on this list? 🤦🏽♂️ Tool is the band that people who don't like metal use to pretend they like metal.
Mirror Reaper may be number 7 on this list, but it is number one on my list of the best of the decade. Pretty much a perfect Funeral Doom record that doesn't need anything changed, and is captivating and heavily emotional throughout.
hard disagree on Deafheaven’s Sunbather. one of my favorite albums of all time. amazing production, the guitar tone is immaculate, unique sound and blend of genres. it’s a journey from start to finish and deserves to be listened to in its entirety. absolutely love it
I never understood the "controversy" over Sunbather. There were a ton of Atmospheric Black Metal and Shoegaze/ Black Metal fusions before Deafheaven came along. For me it was just another album in that style. a great one at that too. I'd put it in my top 10 as well.
Tons and tons of great albums from the past 10 years but if I had to pick something that stands out on top for me, it would probably be Heliocentric and Anthropocentric by The Ocean. Heliocentric, in particular, is just amazingly special to me.
Firepower is an amazing album! It shows why Halford is the Metal God!!! The day I got it I listened to it over and over till I realized it was all I listened to for a solid 12 weeks
Top 5 -Judas Priest: Firepower -Iron Reagan: Crossover Ministry -Toxic Holocaust: Chemistry Of Consciousness -Tool: Fear Inoculum -Mastodon: Once More ‘Round The Sun
Deafheaven is metal, it is just somewhere close to Atmospheric Black Metal and there are a ton more bands than it and maybe better?? But it is good to see that direction getting a shout out.
Not knocking on Rivers of Nihil by any means it’s also one of my personal favourites from the past decade but the sax has been done before, as much as it is a bold move, it’s not like it hadn’t been done before. Ihsahn did it on multiple albums, and Shining’s Blackjazz album is really where it started I think. Monumental album though, long may it continue for these guys, will be hard to top that.
"i do the old guys and he does the young guys" sounds like a hell of a night.
haha
hahahaha!
I don't even like death metal, but I heard Rivers of Nihil in a playlist and their music has something so memorable, I can listen to the entire album and enjoy it. Speaks volumes for their musical talent.
They are so good, they trancent the genre and bring new fans in.
So glad Power Trip made it on this list. Those boys deserve all the fame they can get. They’re one of the best metal bands I’ve heard in a long time.
Best metal joke of the decade - when Blayne also was on his way to kill Euronymous.
Kristoffer Rosvall he wanted some chocolate milk.
He had another one planned for this but we didn’t do it, maybe another time

Deafheaven is awesome. Fuck the haters. If music genres weren't allowed to evolve, blues would have never inspired rock, rock would have never inspired metal.
Glad you guys acknowledge and respect the album even if it's not your cup of tea. 🤘
"New Bermuda" is easily my best of the decade pick.
@mooky seriously?
apparently someone deceived you
I'm not a hater. I just don't like them very much.
Moreover, it also feels like the last 3-4 years have just been a bombardment of great metal albums of all flavors and styles, so it's a great time to be alive for it.
mooky You have never listened to any blackgaze record in full have ya?
I'm not even going to entertain those, all too often people entirely ignorant of genres like screamo and shoegaze, who insist so hard that it is metal, and black metal in particular.
ah yes, the obligatory "is it black metal?"-argument to every video related to deafheaven. that's when you know you're home
mooky Righto. Just repeat that ad nauseum and at some point it will become the truth, right? Your comment reeks of ignorance. Good to see the vast majority of people do not agree with you in the slightest.
tagradh Nice straw man! No one is saying that, bud.

Wow, so happy to see Mirror Reaper on the list. Well deserved, incredible album. I have listened to it many times through and never been bored, not once. Power Trip at 5? The community has not let us down!
Man, I´m so happy to see Mirror Reaper on this list! It was the best for me in that year
Beautiful slab of funeral doom
That's just like, your opinion, man.
@mooky well, it´s not an album for everyone
@mooky yes
mooky You seem very angry about people having different opinions from you.
It’s wild how good that album is ..
I couldn’t agree more. I have listened to this album so much. Referring to it as being fresh is a perfect comparison to how I felt listening.
Damn cool stuff.
Sam and Blayne switched their haircuts!
The 2010's were indeed a great decade for metal, here's hoping the 2020's are even better.
Thanks so much for this video! These kinds of videos are really what radio stations used to be: places where you go to discover new music, to broaden your gaze and taste.
Agalloch Marrow of the Spirit
Fucking A
Deafheaven needed to be on that list and I’m glad they are. Sunbather is amazing and I still get blown away when I hear Dreamhouse
Yes! They are one band who really hit me emotionally when I'm dialled in
I always find it interesting when people so strongly hate this band but can never argue that they're bad. They definitely seem to have very strong impact on everyone when they hear it. Sunbather and New Bermuda are incredible records, who cares if they're "metal" or not.
Pallbearer, YOB, Monolord, High On Fire, Sleep are my favorites in last decade
The Sciences 🤟🤟
Clearing the Path to Ascend by YOB...that one is amazing, the song "Marrow" alone is a classic. still listen to it all the time
Which Monolord? I still have to check out the latest but the one before that I found boring as shit.
Yes, not enough Dooooom on this list, especially love Pallbearer!
Pallbearer has by far been the loudest concert I've ever witnessed. Those guys are A++ musicians.
There's been so much great Metal this decade, any of these albums deserve to be on a list, as do many others. For me, though, Judas Priest's 'Firepower' really did give me a lot of repeat listens and consistent joy. I think it's a true late-career masterpiece from the band.
It's been two years and I still crank it up. Love it, one of their best and no filler at all
Jason Becker - Triumphant Hearts (2018) is my favorite album of the decade. What an epic and legendary achievement.
Ihsahn had Saxophone all the way back in 2010, on the album "After". No knock on RIvers of Nihil, just saying.
killerpeaches7 And the sax melodies on it tie the entire album together. Absolute masterwork
The Faceless had some sax too on Autotheist back in 2012
I also want to mention Shining. Probablz waz more bands that have incorporated that before we do not even know.
Textures had it on their debut release in 2003. Just saying.
Amorphis had killer sax stuff on Am Universum back in 2001. And then there's Yakuza whose debut is also from 2001, I think.

You must be real popular at parties.
Deafheaven is a fantastic band. So are Alcest ( and Kodama could easily be on this list). They are both completely interesting in a genre were conformity to certain rules can make the music stale.
"The physical effect it has on you emotionally..."
I’ve been getting into Metal music these past few days so I’m happy I found this channel today ‘cause I want to explore the genre some more 😊
My personal Top 10...
Personally I would add Teitanblood- Death, Dead Congratulation- Promulgation of the Fall, Witchrist- The grand tormentor, Vektor- Terminal Redux, Antimob- II
nuclearthrasher666 Teitanblood and Witchrist are so fucking good, god.
@@ConvincingPeople Fuck yeah !!! New Zealand has one of the best underground death/black metal scenes. Bands like Witchrist, Vassafor, Heresiarch, Diocletian etc, are stellar. It's a great shame that Witchrist are inactive for so long....
@@nuclearthrasher666 All of those are worthy entries, I just haven't listened to them as much as the ones mentioned.
You guys are awesome! This probably wont make your list, but the album I got the most enjoyment from is Swallow the Sun's album, Songs from the North. It's doom, it's epic and long, but check out The Gathering of Black Moths. I look forward to part 2.
Dude! Judas Priest wrote an incredible ballad with “Beyond the Realms of Death”!!
That song is effing amazing.
Yes. And Blind Guardian did it better.
As they tend to do. Blind Guardian is amazing.
Even as a huge Tool fan and someone who enjoyed the album, it still really bums me out to see it on here when there were SO many more deserving choices.
Fair comment. I too love the band....but I almost do not even put them in the category of metal.
Same with Judas Priest, great album, but not top 10, just goes to show that what is popular or hyped usually gets voted.
JSquaredDesigns they’re more metal than ghost
And nevermind the genre issue (barely metal), 'Fear Inoculum' is not great. It's fine. It's good. It's not a fail. That's the best I can say about it, and for a wait if 13 years from a powerhouse like Tool, it's disappointing. So much safe rehashing. Just... sigh. Y'know?
@@danrobichaud But that's, like your opinion, dude. Looked at objectively, it is a very good album. The drumming alone makes it a worthy listen.
My list in no particular order !
1.Le'fant Sauvage - Gojira
2. The Migration - Scale the Summit
3. Let yourself be huge/ Woum - Cloudkicker
4. Koloss - Meshuggah

24. King Animal - Soundgarden
25. Rainier Fog - AIC
special mentions to - Beatles Remastered Mix of 2017,18,19....
Rbnh98 YES! Finally someone who likes Polaris more than Altered State! Perfect album
@@mojuy11 Polaris is by far Tesseracts best album, IMO. More coherent, Groovier, sounds pop but isn't !! Thats the beauty !!
Rbnh98 Dystopia has to be their best song. The 1-2-3-4-5 punch to start the album is legendary haha
Shit, Firepower, almost forgot about that one. Periodically get that crankin in the car, what a phenomenal album 🤘
Firepower was super strong! Loved it!
I share the same views as Sam does on Tool's Fear Inoculum. It's still a great album though.
Also, nice inclusion of Deafheaven's Sunbather. Sure, you don't like it but it's damn groundbreaking and influential. I love it.
Anciients deserve to be on the top 5, Power Trip definitely deserve their spot - well done
1.Behemoth- Satanist
2. Vitriol- to bathe in the blood of cowardice
3. Rivers of Nihil- where owls know my name
4. Infant Annihilator- the battle of yaldabaoth
5. The black Dahlia murder- nightbringers
The best use of the saxophone in metal is on Ihsahn’s 2010 album “After”
Noo noo noo!!!!, its definitely Sick Boogie Murder by Trepalium.....hands down!
chim choo ree I think what gives After the edge for me is the saxophone’s repeated melodic theme that ties the whole album together so beautifully
chim choo ree chim choo ree and believe me, saying I prefer After is absolutely no knock on Eremita. We are in total agreement about The Eagle and the Snake. It’s one my favorites from Ihsahn and one of my favorite guitar solos ever
What about The Shining ?
What about the faceless' autotheist part 3
Two that stick out for me are: Wilderun - Veil of Imagination and Ne Obliviscaris - Citadel.
That Wilderun album is just incredible. Apart from a few of the cleans that I'm not too keen on it's a truly stunning experience.
Wilderun's last two records are my top two of the decade. They are incredible, so humbled that I got to meet them at their latest album release show.
Trevor JD Is also put Rivers Of Nihil and The faceless. Monotheism is a amazing .
Trevor JD both are absolutely frickin incredible
Ne Obliviscarus is simply brilliant.
As always, love the content, and finding something new. As soon as I heard that Sunbather clip, my hair stood on end... this is why I watch your show...
my 2 favorite this decade: At the Gates At war with Reality and Carcass surgical steel
At war with Reality was a solid album and a worthy addition to the ATG catalogue but Surgical Steel was amazing. Might be my favorite Carcass album and thats saying a lot.
Hell yea. As much as I'm a bigger fan of ATG than Carcass, surgical steel was fucking amazeballs.
Not to knock your picks but way to check out some new bands :P
@@jarunia17 ??? havent seen any worthy new bands sorry lol.
"Mire" by Conjurer. INSTANT CLASSIC.
Hell yeah!! Power Trip is awesome 💪🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸
Really kick ass live🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
FUCK YEAH!!
If this was Loudwire, the next 5 albums would all have to be Ghost. Thank God this is not Loudwire. I'd love to see Gojira and Architects up there!
And Corey Taylor.
Slipknot
Opus and Meliora are both incredible records and either deserve a spot on this list. Too many metal dorks who are close minded and only listen to harsh vocals shit on them. News flash, you can listen to Ghost and Gojira and Behemoth and not be an insufferable prick.
Goddamn I hate Ghost. They just took Alice Cooper's "Poison" and made a band around it.
Gojira!!!!!!!!
This list just proves that millions of flies cannot be wrong - shit is good.
Oh the coprometaphors
Lets try to pick my top 10 of the decade... 🤔
Sleep - The Sciences
Baroness - Gold And Grey
Elder - Reflections Of A Floating World
Yob - Clearing The Path To Ascend
Alice In Chains - Rainier Fog
Code Orange - Forever
Conan - Revengeance
Devin Townsend - Empath
Gojira - Magma
Periphery - Alpha/Omega
But don't be fooled: Monster Magnet's Dopes To Infinity or Fu Manchu's King Of The Road are yet to be topped.
IMHO L'Enfant Sauvage is better than Magma and Black Gives Way to Blue is far better than Ranier Fog.
@@noahfaber8303 BGWTB was 2009. But yes, better than 'Rainier' and 'The Devil'.
@@danrobichaud I don't know why I always think BGWTB is 2011 😂. My bad on the Rainier spelling. Do you prefer Devil or Rainier?
@@noahfaber8303 Agreed guys, if BGWTB was from this decade, I would have picked it. Simply the best comeback album ever recorded! In fact, I prefer the work of AIC post Staley... It's sad, maybe a bit controversial, but I love all 3 albums so much. All Secrets Known is the best come back opener ever written imho. Cheers!
1. Epica - The Holographic Principle
2. Xerath - II
3. The Agonist - Prisoners
4. Kreator - Phantom Antichrist
5. Kalmah - 12 Gauge
6. Machinae Supremacy - A View From The End Of The World
7. Amaranthe - Amaranthe
8. Fear Factory - Mechanize
9. Soilwork - The Living Infinite
10. Ne Obliviscaris - Citadel
Power Trip!!!!
Uncle Acid & the Deadbeats - “Blood Lust”
YES! I OWN THAT ALBUM! KILLER FUCKING BAND
A decade absolutely dominated by death, doom and black metal, but Banger does what it always does...
as voted by BangerTV viewers (sic)
@@Phisker with 4 recs Banger reviewed and praised, and one (Deafheaven) most people haven't ever heard of the band? For fuck sake, the only killer album here is Mirror Reaper, which will hardly be in anybody decade list, because:
1. People who actually listen to funeral doom knows how beast this decade was for the genre, easily existing other preferences.
2. It is a fucking 1 hour 20 min song.
Run of the Mill by Judad Priest is an absolutely amazing ballad-y song. Reconsider listening to it!
Thank you guys for your reviews. You both describe what we hear very accurately and honestly! Don’t stop
My personal favorites (some are borderline rock)
High on Fire - Snakes for the Divine
Black Trip - Radar
Uncle Acid - Bloodlust
Graveyard - Hisingen Blues
Watain - Lawless Darkness
Accept - Blood of the Nations
Hällas - Excerpts from a future past
Jex Toth - Blood Moon Rise
Thanks again for doing this guys! You opened portals for me I never would have found on my own. May Ronnie James Dio bless you all. :)
L’ENFANT SAUVAGE has got to be at least top 3. Absolute masterpiece of an album.
ToolShoe Magma too!
Incredible.Born in Winter utterly blew me away.
Not even the best Gojira album of the time frame.
If you don't put Idol, it would be absolutely Horrendous.
@ThinKwiQ same here, I've been listening to that record non stop since it came out.
Hahaha i see what you did there
Judas Priest did the best two albums ever in this decade.
WE NEED TERMINAL REDUX BY VEKTOR TO BE IN THE TOP 5
AND ANY NEOBLIVISCARIS
I hope Vektor is number 1
It would definitely be top 3 on my list
@@Kanglar The Satanist is number 1
My top two are surgical steel and terminal redux
I voted Terminal Redux and it was easy choice for me
Guardians/Rising From Ruins is one of the best songs Priest has ever created.
Thanks you guys! Great job. Now on to part two.
Great picks! I was surprised to see so many more underground bands on this list. That Bell Witch record is sooooo good.
Devourment-obscene majesty
Without doubt one of the heaviest, punishing albums ever created
In Vain - Aenigma is the blackened (and better?) Where Owls Know My Name imo
Great band for sure😊
The people have spoken!! My list looks completely different. As well as many other fellow metalheads on here. One album that I cannot stop listening to is Allegaeon - Apoptosis. Although that is not my #1 of the decade.
Greetings from Sonora, Mexico (Saludos desde Sonora, Mexico)
My top 10 albums of the decade: (note, not a Black Metal fan)
Star One - Victims Of The Modern Age (2010)
In Flames - Sounds Of A Playground Fading (2011)
Dawnbringer - Into The Lair Of The Sun God (2012)
Devin Townsend Project - Sky Blue (2014)
Dark Tranquility - Atoma (2016)
Khemmis - Hunted (2016)
Vektor - Terminal Redux (2016)
Haken - Affinity (2016)
Chelsea Wolfe - Hiss Spun (2017)
Cellar Darling - The Spell (2019)
So many honourable mentions including: Voyager - Meaning of I (2011), Anubis Gate - Anubis Gate (2011), Gojira - L'Enfant Sauvage (2012), Sabaton - Carolus Rex (2012), Pallbearer - Sorrow and Extinction (2012), Haken - The Mountain (2013), Within Temptation - Hydra (2014), Trials - The Ruined World (2015), Power Trip - Nightmare Logic (2017), Amorphis - Queen of Time (2018), Barren Earth - A Complex of Cages (2018), Ghost - Prequelle (2018), Orphaned Land - Unsung Prophets and Dead Massiahs (2018), Rammstein - Rammstein (2019), Tool - Fear Inoculum (2019) and loads more!
JUDAS PRIEST! From Rio, Brasil.
I liked the part where you said you were from Rio, Brasil. That was really interesting for me, and I a sure, for everyone
Foda
@@RibeiroGames12 about the level of class one could expect
I will give this a go:
2010
: Saturday Morning Apocalypse - Powerglove
2011: One - TesseracT
2012: L'Enfant Sauvage - Gojira
2013: Halo Of Blood - Children Of Bodom
2014: Kill The Power - Skindred (its just about metal and some might not even count it but still badass)
2015: Juggernaut double album - Periphery
2016: The Serenity Of Suffering - Korn
2017: Ritual - In This Moment
2018: Sonder - Tesseract (struggled with this year but this is one amazing prog album)
2019: We Are Not Your Kind - Slipknot
I agree with everything. I don't want to comment spoilers. So I'm looking forward to the next one! Great job!
15:06 listen to a band called OM if you just want meditative bass and drum playing. Shit will send you out of your body.
Did you perhaps mean Chris Poland’s band, OHM?
Not a terrible list so far.
Deafhean - 5/5. Not everyone cup of tea but will go down as a seminal album
Judas Priest - 2/5. Lazy lyrics
Bellwitch- 4/5. Fantastic album
Tool 2/5. Bland and bloated
Rivers of Nihil 4/5. Solid songwriting and great combining of genres.
Powertrip 4.5/.5. People were looking for the next band to not only cross over genres but cross into the mainstream world and they have it here. If their 3rd album is a banger you could see the next torchbearer for metal
I agree with in almost every grade that you gave, but to me:
Deafheaven - 4/5
Judas - 2/5
Bell Witch - 5/5 Fucking Amazing Record
Tool - 4/5, to me its a great record
Rivers - 4/5
Powertrip - 4.5/5
Wait, we're arguing about whether or not Sunbather is metal when Fear Inoculum is on this list? 🤦🏽♂️ Tool is the band that people who don't like metal use to pretend they like metal.
True story and you can't really argue anyway with Tool fans xD
and its quite bad, depending on their history
People who don’t consider Tool metal are boring.
Ain't even know the list and I know I'm stoked
Some of my top 15 Priest songs are ballads 😤 Realms and Dreamer Deceiver. Heck even the Diamonds and Rust cover isn’t far behind
"What we do in the Shadows" reference!!! lol thumbs up!
People are too scared to admit that the new Tool record sucks
Kyle Wipert scared of...?
Hahaha
Gotta disagree with you there man. Tool is sick and the new record is good too. Took a few listens but it really grew on me.
It's not bad. But overrated? Uh... yeah
Its midway into 2020 and I still cannot get myself to listen past 30mins.. it's fine but my gosh does it DRAAAGGGGGGGG!.....
Tons and tons of great albums from the past 10 years but if I had to pick something that stands out on top for me, it would probably be Heliocentric and Anthropocentric by The Ocean. Heliocentric, in particular, is just amazingly special to me.
Some of my contenders would be Nails, Deftones, Enslaved, Meshuggah, Oathbreaker, Dir en grey
ResidentStevil Hell yeah, some dir en grey appreciation
Just curious, which Deftones record from last decade would you have put? For me I'd say Diamond Eyes
Hell yeah!
River of Nihil did great!
Keep up the content, you guys have a nice variety for metal exploration.
Monolith of inhumanity by cattle decap is easily a top 10.
Fuck yeah!
Noodle 84 Either that or TAE better be in the top 5
@mooky you're right, maybe they should just talk about rape and butchery like all the other death metal bands 😂
Agreed
Death Atlas too.. 🌎
Oh! You did leave us wanting more... (like you said about the mighty Power Trip and their short, killer albums) Can't wait for part 2! ABBATH?!?!
Firepower is an amazing album! It shows why Halford is the Metal God!!! The day I got it I listened to it over and over till I realized it was all I listened to for a solid 12 weeks
Top 5
-Judas Priest: Firepower
-Iron Reagan: Crossover Ministry
-Toxic Holocaust: Chemistry Of Consciousness
-Tool: Fear Inoculum
-Mastodon: Once More ‘Round The Sun
@BANGERTV - All Metal
The second part has been blocked and the video is not available anymore because of coyprights infringement. Bummer! :(
Remember a decade is the timespan between the last Beatles album and the first Iron Maiden album. Seems RocknRoll evolved so much faster back then.
the first time you listen to that Rivers of Nihil you just know it was album of the year, amazing
I can't narrow it down to 10, so here's my top 20:
20: Spawn of Possession - Incurso (2012)
19: Psycroptic - As the Kingdom Drowns (2018)
18: Black Dahlia Murder - Everblack (2013)

14: Suffocation - Pinnacle of Bedlam (2013)
13: Dying Fetus - Reign Supreme (2012)

11: Obscura - Akroasis (2016)
10: Gojira - L'Enfant Sauvage (2012)
9: Decapitated - Carnival is Forever (2011)
8: Aborted - The Necrotic Manifesto (2014)
7: Gorod - A Perfect Absolution (2012)
6: Nile - At The Gate of Sethu (2012)
5: Mayhem - Esoteric Warfare (2014)
4: Fleshgod Apocalypse - Labyrinth (2013)
3: Rivers of Nihil - Where Owls Know My Name (2018)
2: Gorguts - Colored Sands (2013)
1: Behemoth - The Satanist (2014)
Banger TV. The only show i continuously following here. Great.
Cult of Luna, Gojira, Lamb of God, Iron Maiden, Suicide Silence, Black Sabbath, Electric Wizard
Deafheaven is metal, it is just somewhere close to Atmospheric Black Metal and there are a ton more bands than it and maybe better?? But it is good to see that direction getting a shout out.
@mooky It's close-minded idiots like you that ruin the music scene.
My List:
1. Meshuggah - The Violent Sleep of Reason
2. Mastodon - Once More Around the Sun
3. Gojira - Magma
4. Tool - Fear Inoculum
5. Behemoth - The Satanist
6. Tesseract - One
7. Ne Obliviscaris - Urn
8. BTBAM - The Parallax 2: Future Sequence
9. Ihsahn - Eremita
10. The Contortionist - Language
11. Cattle Decapitation - Death Atlas
12. Obscure Sphinx - Epitaphs

15. Slugdge - Esoteric Malacology
16. Igorrr - Savage Sinusoid
17. Last Chance to Reason - Level 2
18. Soen - Lykaia
19. Spiritbox - Spiritbox
20. Dimmu Borgir - Abrahadabra
Runners up:
Archspire - Relentless Mutation
Vildjarta - Masstaden
Obzen came out in 08' dude...
@@joshimawashi It transcends time. But yes, Meshuggah needs to be on the list. Just changed it :)
Relentless Mutation is gold
@@zeroontology ...by no means am I picking on ya...Obzen is easily in my top 20 albums of all time...
Props for giving Ihsahn a spot on here. Personally, I think After is his best solo release, but Eremita might be my second favorite
Monumental album though, long may it continue for these guys, will be hard to top that.
dame i miss the two of you in the same room! this is going to be great
