Congratulations on another great year! Bedsore is on my “shit I gotta catchup on” list, as I was very distracted by other new albums in November. My album of the year is Mitochondrion, hope everyone who loves the deepest, darkest recesses of dissonant death metal gets a chance to check that out. See you in the new year BangerTV.
Seems like you had major shift to heavy rock/trad metal for this year, I wasn't expecting that seeing as there was an amazing amout of extreme metal releases.
That Bedsore album feels like what critics of the Absolute Elsewhere are looking for- a cohesive fusion of the Prog and death elements. It’s damn good.
TZOMPANTLI sound awesome, thanks for the discovery, that’s my jam. Do they have a link with MUKNAL who are/were also in the Mexican/Mayan themes? Also ANTICHRIST SIEGE MACHINE crush. Excellent stuff.
Awesome list! As always, have a few I need to go back and check out! Everyone is forgetting Hellbutcher! Amazing album that to me is the perfect blackened speed metal album!!! 🤘🤘🤘
@@gwts1171 I'm from RVA, but outside of metal, the old noise rock coming out of Minnesota and stuff like AmRep is sick. I always liked the early Hammerhead stuff a lot. Wanderer is a really underrated band from MN these days.

Hey, will we be seeing a best of 2024 as voted by Banger fans? I was hoping that was the point of the Patreon question. That would be cool. Also, we need a Sam Dunn best of the year! Dafuq! The collaborative annual roundup videos are the best. I hope that format comes back someday!
I catch my gf singing Crypt Sermon tracks. While she’s a metalhead like I am, I’m the dude who normally is singing, screaming, and growling. It speaks to how sick the band is.
Blayne only like operatic weird cheesy metal. I finally stopped watching this stupid channel a few months ago. Just dropped in to see if he still only likes weird cheesy opera metal
I’m a fan of blood incantation, I like the new album, but damn man there’s other albums out and a lot that are better. Mitochondrion put out a new album that absolutely dog walks blood incantation and it’s talked about next to nowhere.

Top ten metal and punk lists from 2024. Punk list is below the metal list. Oranssi Pazuzu Crushing alien weirdness from beyond the aurora borealis. I’ve paid attention to these guys off and on over the years knowing they would deliver a masterpiece at some point and this is it. Psychedelic black metal from Finland. Unearthly Rites Dark mass of writhing putrefaction that blots out the sun. Distorted bass meant to crush your spleen and screeching vocals that come from some kind of trauma. In other words: fun. Borknagar Heavy metal from Bergen, Norway. The band has a long history, but this might be their most accessible release and I don’t mean that in a bad way. High on Fire Matt Pike wakes up when he feels like it, and when he wakes up he grabs his Les Paul and writes riffs. Matt Pike doesn’t care about you or your dog, but I think we all know what he really cares about: riffs. Also, points for his shredded vocal cords that gives the pain authenticity. If it doesn’t make you feel better, it will at least help you bleed more righteously onto the carpet. Judas Priest Still got something to prove in their 70s. Not the type to be their own tribute band, instead, these guys are still deliverin the goods with new songs that hold up to their back catalogue. Most bands with massive bank for recording mess up the guitar sound, but not priest. The guitars are in your face, crisp, warm, and immediate. Songs are catchy too. What else do you want? Stop complaining and have fun. Wolfheart I like their last one better, but they can still write memorable songs where the riffs, changes, and vocal melodies actually matter. Not every metal band can write riffs that actually go together, but these guys put the time in. Their videos are a fun travelogue of winter landscapes mixed with steroids. Maere Didn’t like this the first time or maybe even the second, but at some point I sat up and felt like it had something to tell me. Not trying to pummel you with speed or bore you with solos. Just weird death metal. Slight dissonance without losing the plot. Barbaric songs from an alien world. Darkthrone Yes, we all miss the rawness and the speed, but for some old dudes in the Norwegian woods who tend to reminisce about metal’s bloody origins, they can still bring it in the form of riffs and ideas. Those ideas tend to be slower and more drawn out, but who else puts out records like this? If you travel far enough into the forest maybe there is a giant mug of ale waiting for you, or maybe just a cold death under a bleak sky. Either way, it’s a fun record for when you’re in the right mood. Ungfell Black metal from Zurich, Switzerland. Energetic black metal with some folk leanings. Necrowretch French black metal. Cool riffs and unhinged vocals. Points for memorable cover art. Honorable Mentions Voidskull Shoutout for my own band, since we’re hopelessly obscure. Our record Isolation as a Weapon came out earlier this year and we have a video out for the song Knives. Highlights on the album for me are: Jade Sky, Lunar Sea, Rats in your Mind, and Invert the Priest. Free to listen on RUclips and a cheap purchase on Bandcamp. We can’t afford merch at the moment because of rehearsal rent, but maybe in the future. Adorior Morbid Angel worship with a demented female vocalist who’s too busy channeling her demons to worry about following a formula and sounding like everyone else. I’m in. Master Rooms full of old long haired meatheads and leather. Alleys and broken glass. Crusty old Paul Speckman with his signature rasp. Vredehammer Another solid release from this guy that will probably slip under most people’s radar. Catchy and heavy. Mercyless Old school death metal from France. Khors Ukrainian pagan metal. December release, but better late than never. Melodic, heavy, and memorable. Top ten(ish) punk list of 2024 Brunner Todesmarsch Raw and fast hardcore from the Czech Republic. Relentless songs with just the right production. Love this one. Faucheuse France does it again with originality. Female fronted hardcore from Bordeaux. Emilie was apparently the former singer for Bombardment, which is another great band. Faucheuse songs tend to stay at a breakneck speed, while also taking a melodic weirdness to a new level. Highly recommended. No Future Relentless onslaught of hardcore chaos from Australia. Love the bass on this one as well as the female vocalist. We March Amazing band from Athens, Ohio that played out during the 2000s. I just found out about them this year when the anthology came out and I’m glad I did. Well written songs and a crazy vocalist. The coolest band you’ve never heard of. I’ve heard their shows were epic. Cutters Everyone’s (several people’s?) favorite Aussie punk band are back again! Not as catchy as their last one, but they still have something I can’t put my finger on that’s different from everyone else. The bassist steps it up for this one. Would love to see these guys live. Shitbots This is the party right here. Raw recording and the band members yell between songs, pretending to be their own crowd. What’s not to like? If this doesn’t make you feel better, then maybe Urgent Care is the place for you. Krayat Immigrants from the Balkans that sing in Bulgarian and are now based in Berlin. I knew this record was special in the first few minutes. Hard to explain, but you just know it when a record hits you differently than the others. Paroxys Are folks just crazy in Australia? Great band from Melbourne. Crusty metal punk with blistering solos and an angry punk girl on the microphone. Black Button Angry punks from Richmond, Virginia do it again. Possibly catchier than the last one, with all the anger intact. Global Thermonuclear War Sounds just like the name suggests. Team up with Shite from Rigorous Institution and the drummer from Suck Lords and Crucified Class. Kontrolle German post punk with a dark energy. Addictive. Chaos Ok Excellent first release. Definitely a band to watch out for. Golpe Hardcore from Milan, Italy. Best release to date. Rixe This list wouldn’t be complete without some Oi. Rixe from Paris decided to change it up and do a drum machine punk record this time around, which apparently is rooted in French punk history. Start with their back catalogue, but this one is good too. Bermuda Squares Looking for a good time? Lock the frustration in the closet for a few and hit the dance floor.

I still need to buy a ticket. Hopefully I didn't miss out haha. Been loving Enforced lately.
Waited years for that Bedsore album and somehow it both exceeded expectations and also completely subverted them as well.
Wow what a treat to hear my friend VK singing her guts out on The Devils Blind Horse ! Cool .

It is not nearly as enticing as Nifelheim. I’ll have to give it another go

Top ten metal and punk lists from 2024. Punk list is below the metal list.
Oranssi Pazuzu
Crushing alien weirdness from beyond the aurora borealis. I’ve paid attention to these guys off and on over the years knowing they would deliver a masterpiece at some point and this is it. Psychedelic black metal from Finland.
Unearthly Rites
Dark mass of writhing putrefaction that blots out the sun. Distorted bass meant to crush your spleen and screeching vocals that come from some kind of trauma. In other words: fun.
Borknagar
Heavy metal from Bergen, Norway. The band has a long history, but this might be their most accessible release and I don’t mean that in a bad way.
High on Fire
Matt Pike wakes up when he feels like it, and when he wakes up he grabs his Les Paul and writes riffs. Necrowretch
French black metal. Cool riffs and unhinged vocals. Points for memorable cover art.
Honorable Mentions
Voidskull
Shoutout for my own band, since we’re hopelessly obscure. Adorior
Morbid Angel worship with a demented female vocalist who’s too busy channeling her demons to worry about following a formula and sounding like everyone else. I’m in.
Master
Rooms full of old long haired meatheads and leather. Alleys and broken glass. Crusty old Paul Speckman with his signature rasp.
Vredehammer
Another solid release from this guy that will probably slip under most people’s radar. Catchy and heavy.
Mercyless
Old school death metal from France.
Khors
Ukrainian pagan metal. December release, but better late than never. Melodic, heavy, and memorable.
Top ten(ish) punk list of 2024
Brunner Todesmarsch
Raw and fast hardcore from the Czech Republic. Relentless songs with just the right production. Love this one.
Faucheuse
France does it again with originality. Female fronted hardcore from Bordeaux. Emilie was apparently the former singer for Bombardment, which is another great band. Faucheuse songs tend to stay at a breakneck speed, while also taking a melodic weirdness to a new level. Highly recommended.
No Future
Relentless onslaught of hardcore chaos from Australia. Love the bass on this one as well as the female vocalist.
We March
Amazing band from Athens, Ohio that played out during the 2000s. I just found out about them this year when the anthology came out and I’m glad I did. Well written songs and a crazy vocalist. The coolest band you’ve never heard of. I’ve heard their shows were epic.

Everyone’s (several people’s?) favorite Aussie punk band are back again! Not as catchy as their last one, but they still have something I can’t put my finger on that’s different from everyone else. The bassist steps it up for this one. Would love to see these guys live.
Shitbots
This is the party right here. Raw recording and the band members yell between songs, pretending to be their own crowd. What’s not to like? If this doesn’t make you feel better, then maybe Urgent Care is the place for you.
Krayat
Immigrants from the Balkans that sing in Bulgarian and are now based in Berlin. I knew this record was special in the first few minutes. Hard to explain, but you just know it when a record hits you differently than the others.
Paroxys
Are folks just crazy in Australia? Great band from Melbourne. Crusty metal punk with blistering solos and an angry punk girl on the microphone.
Black Button
Angry punks from Richmond, Virginia do it again. Possibly catchier than the last one, with all the anger intact.
Global Thermonuclear War
Sounds just like the name suggests. Team up with Shite from Rigorous Institution and the drummer from Suck Lords and Crucified Class.
Kontrolle
German post punk with a dark energy. Addictive.
Chaos Ok
Excellent first release. Definitely a band to watch out for.
Golpe
Hardcore from Milan, Italy. Best release to date.
Rixe
