Thanks a lot for this video. It convinced me to get the Action 4 and I was getting frustrated when I couldn't get shots to look nice. I rewatched this video and they look so much better now 🙏
This was pretty awesome. I'm actually planning to buy an Action 4 to serve as a studio cam. Your output was waaay beyond my expectations. You should probably sell these settings as LUTS, as not everyone know how to color Grade, nor use FCP.
Thanks for the demonstration and detailed production notes. I need to use Action 4 as interview camera at a busy event coming up and I already have a mic2 kit which I just learned is fully compatible with the camera.
Thank you Roma. I will wait more video from this camera, especially with Standard (Dewarp) mode. I want buy it for vlogs, so I don't need any distortion..
This is a treasure trove of information! You save aspiring RUclipsrs lots of money and also lots of time! Was much of this trial and error or mostly just leveraging your video experience? I'll also add that you model an exemplary content organization and delivery. You deliver what you promise.
GoPro 11 looks better in this situation but im buying the Action 4. It looks great when using it outside and better at night. Seems like a much more reliable device than any GoPro, thoughtful design of mounting system and accessories, good batteries and charging times...I thought about waiting for the GoPro 12 but I mean its GoPro, knowing them they won't change much especially since they just implemented their new sensor in the 11 and their track record of reliability and charging times is a joke.
The Action 4 looks really great. I'm conflicted on getting it or waiting for the GoPro 12. I'm not sure if the poor reliability of GoPros is overblown? If it has a 1 inch sensor in the same body size, I'm assuming it will probably have worse overheating than the GoPro 11.
I’d wait for the HERO12 if image quality is really important to you. However, I’m sure it’s going to be filled with the usual GoPro issues. And it’s definitely going to overheat if it’s going to have a 1” sensor..
I can explain. All camera profiles shoot in "LOG". That is, even in the native camera profile it uses LOG, it just doesn't have it in the name. The gamma is set by the manufacturer to achieve the best color reproduction in 24-bits (full color, 8bits each R,G,B). Looking at only one color component red, the camera will fill in the 256 values so that we can see every gradation of color we can distinguish. In a studio setting you can light to make sure all your brightness values fit best into that 256 range. In short, all your colors will be rich. In an outdoor setting the dynamic range of light is often way beyond what would naturally fit into 8-bit. Then that "flat", Handmaid's Tale, dystopian, washed out look became the rage. The look is achieved by throwing out properly saturated colors in the mid-range and putting contrast from the bright value (like clouds). Then you had all the amateur color grading believing it could match what is done with an Arri or Red camera. I digress. When you're shooting in D-LOG the camera is extending its 8-bit range for primary colors out into sensor values that are brighter than you would get in your room (but you might get outside). Since your room is properly lit, you lose color saturation. I suggest researching what your camera is REALLY doing, not what the camera manufacturer marketing companies and RUclipsrs claim it can do with the right "color grade". Super fascinating. At least to me. Bottom line, never shoot non rec709 profiles (that is LOG) indoors where you have lit properly. You're actually shooting yourself in the foot! Only use LOG profiles in uncontrolled lighting where you want great dynamic range over color fidelity for whatever reason. Hope this helps.
Looks great i just got the action4 and the image is amazing of course depend on what you do but it's small and perfect for travelling, drone etc.. also in cinelog the range of color is impressive. Best world is having few camera, but ya it get expensive very quick.
It is more « on location » as « studio », because the camera is not connected to a computer to record directly in the computer (or broadcast) via software like eCamm Live (for instance)
I like a do it all camera... I bought the OA3 and ordered the 4, can't wait to see what the release firmware looks like!... also... why is this channel not at at least 50k subs?
Fantastic! I'm sure you'll love it! As for Audiio, it's great. The music library is big enough, and they always add new tunes. However, I think the website is a bit slow compared to something like Epidemic Sound, and I wish they had more SFX options.
Nicely done! Thought it looked fine…no need for bokeh for simple studio shots. A few RUclips folks use nothing but action cameras and their content is equally pleasing, though usually done in a hotel room, a kitchen or similar rather than a studio so it looks more realistic to a viewer. No real preference as to the two cameras for me. I would be curious how each looked if you simply went to auto without all the recommended adjustments, likely how most people would do it. Do think a mirrorless would be a better choice, but not by much.
how about the wide angle. if I want in this studio to record my hands or what I am working only in order to create content? what to do in such situations? Do we need to get the camera very close ? I see there are some 49mm adaptors on Ali-Exp and from there some macro lenses on 49mm. Do they do justice or might help or the sensor of Action 4 is not good at all since it is wide? I am novice, so I may say some stupid things here, please understand and dont judge :) I am starting on a project and on a budget. so... yeah.
I wonder if a pair of these would be good for doing interviews while traveling. Some inside. Some outside. Podcast style discussions. I would use external audio these for video only. Surely smaller than two mirror less cameras
Wouldn’t be my first choice, but if this is all you have, then it can work. I’d rather use a mirrorless camera or even a smartphone for interview type videos and action camera for action stuff or POV shots.
@@Romafedorov I haven't purchased anything. Owned an eos m50 before and hated it for video. I need a setup in a backpack that can be used indoors and out for 1 hour or so. Lightweight two cameras. Never thought of cell phones for that but they are small and the battery lasts. I was thinking action cams or maybe gx85. Something that can be used on a train trip or in the countryside at will as well is inside in good lighting.
I have a Saramonic Blink 500, what is the Saramonic mic adapter for use on Action Cam 4? Can I use Saramonic SR-C2001?Does the mic icon appear on the screen?
Hi dear, Great video much needed one, can you tell how long can osmo action 4 last before it shut down completely. or before it heat up and shut down. I mean how much continuous recording can it handle
I just purchased the Action 4 with the intention to record, download to my MacBook Air, then edit before uploading to RUclips. What editing program do you use?
Hi. Should I use an Action 4 or S22 Ultra with Motion Cam Pro for training courses footage... All indoor with studio lights... pretty much the scenario you show on this video.... Thanks in advance...
If you don’t have either, I’d buy a cheap mirrorless camera with a cheap prime lens instead. However, if you own the S22 already, I’d just stick to that. The Action 4 is a great ACTION camera, BUT it’s NOT really a great studio camera. It’s ok to use it in a pinch, but it’s not something I’d do on a regular basis. The best option is a mirrorless camera on a tripod. Take a look at the Sony ZV-E10, a6400, Nikon z30, Canon R10, Fujifilm XS-10 etc..
@romafedorov How do you like that Ulanzi cage for the DJI Action 4? I ask because I recently went down a rabbit hole and that's the one I ended up ordering.
Hi Roma, thanks for this video! Just bought and received the OA4 a week ago and it is superlative for my needs!! (Basically gravel and road cycling) very interested in this studio setup.. did u have some sort of overheating issue in this indoor environment?
is it possible to do youtube camera with dji action 2 ? i want to buy one camera that i can use for vlogging and studio camera but i am not sure if action 2 or 4 is the right one
Can’t wait for the GoPro 12 with 1 inch sensor to come out and everyone realise they have done nothing about their overheating issues and now with a 1 inch sensor and higher video resolution it will be give out more heat than the sun

OUTSTANDING quality. I'm actually mind blown. No blurry bg but the image quality is FANTASTIC!
Yeah the image quality on the Action 4 is fantastic!
Great camera for beginners who doesn't want to afford expensive mirrorless and still learning about exposure.
The image quality of the Action 4 is amazing. There is no question, it is better than any action camera I have seen to this point. Excellent tutorial.
Yes, it is. DJI nailed it with the image quality on this camera!

Well, doesn't the Action 4 shoot 10 bit LOG?
With one of the filters, it made the curtains curvy where it should have been straight. I didn't notice until I saw that circle filter....

I'm wondering what kind of equipment you have your camera on in tour studio?
I would like one
I also use GoPro 11 in my videos
Wow!
Could this be used for Overhead, Top down videos for youtube?
In a pinch, yes. However, I’d rather use a proper mirrorless camera for that.
I used your settings in my podcast studio with big lights but the video quality is incredibly noisy and grainy.
How can I fix this?
Try using noise reduction? Maybe the lights weren't powerful enough..
how about the Panasonic HC-V785 a youtube channel...would this be better?
I don’t know. I’m not familiar with the model, but for studio shots, any proper camera is going to work better than an action camera.
yeah its just a camcorder for around 450 dollars..i was thinking about the osmo. but now im leaning more to a camcorder. thx @@Romafedorov
Is posible to make this oa5 for source input for video swicter
?
I saw bad artifact at the shadow. Did you use noise reduction post production quite hard?
I didn’t use any noise reduction in post.
Better image in low light than GoPro ?
I believe so
Deity V-Mic D4 cost £38 but Boya by-K4 cost £24. Is there any cheaper option to connect this mic?

1/4” thread, cold shoe mount and side 1/4” thread.
Any over heating issues when using as a webcam?
I don't know. I never used it as a webcam, but it also never overheated on me.
Action 4 for many reasons is better for studio and vloging, gopro is clear action cam IMO so ...
Not when it overheats on you so dji4 better
Can we use tws earphones as mic with dji osmo action 4?
I don't think so..
