Being an African american born in Chicago in the 60's,I have heard so many bands and so much music and who ever said music has no color bounderies is right Styx is one of my favorite rock bands, they've made some amazing music over the years and I'm glad I got to hear some of the best rock songs written in rock history by D..DeYoung and T.Shaw........Peace
I grew up in the 80’s and 90’s and after music hasn’t been music since about the mid 90’s. Late 60’s through early 80’s rock can’t be topped. Queensryche Silent Lucidity is an oddity that sounds more late 70’a than early 90’s
I saw them in 1973 in Grand Forks N.D. they were the opening act for a Three Dog Night concert my husband and I went to. We hadn't heard of them yet, but they were so great we didn't care if Three Dog Night came on or not. We said that they were going to make it big, and they did.
I was born and raised in Motown, so I heard some quality stuff, What becomes of the broken hearted, Jimmy Ruffin , There's a place in the sun by Stevie Wonder, I'll be around by the Spinners, Ain't no woman like the one I got,the four Tops
Styx was my first ever concert...Crystal Lake High School Field House, 1974, I was a student at North Junior High and the ticket cost $1.85. It was absolutely amazing.
My wife and I were HS sweethearts '74 '75 and '76. Married 1980 and now 40yrs, 3 daughters, 10 grandchildren. I love this song!! Danced at our wedding to this song.
I used to wait on Dennis his wife and children at a little Italian restaurant called Paccini's in Orland Park IL, The family lived in Palos Heights., IL A gracious humble creative genius. Never full of himself. Always looking after the children to ensure they were presenting themselves properly in public. He and his wife were a total CLASS ACT. Emmett Bowles
I'm 59 years old here in 2022. Been listening to STYX since I was a kid. I have a few STYX songs on my Spotify and LADY still gives me goosebumps and I drop the hammer rolling down the highway.
We had so many talented musicians back then, Didn't realize at the time how lucky we all were. what a awesome time to be alive and experience that whole era.
Back in the 70 's and 80's FM was too much, our Ipod then, Stix has lots of good songs that young people don't even know. These days I don't even listen the radio at all.
I sang this at my wedding for my wife to be and she still tears up when I start humming the verse what a great song an I chose a great woman … I will alway LOVE you Shelley
I'll never forget the first time I heard this song... summer camp 1980; we'd left the camp for a day hike in the mountains, another group was on a different hike. As we drove through mountains, the driver heard that 2 guys from the other group got separated from the rest, and were lost in the wilderness, hell and gone nobody could find them,.... We all knew each other well, I remember our whole group sitting in silence, worried sick. The driver eventually turned on the radio, and this song came on.... The story has a happy ending thought... The boys were eventually found (after two days).. one of them had parents divorcing at the time...but after this ordeal they got back together!....I'll never forget that day because of this song, which is fine, it's what makes music so interesting and dear.
Notice how JY played the solo and sang background vocals at the same time and didn't miss nothing! Awesome musicianship! Styx is so underrated! The songwriting, arrangements, vocals and musicianship is on full display here!
No idea what is best… the beautiful piano…. The driving bass and guitars… the lyrics…. The incredible voice…. Can you imagine packaging something like this today?? You could make billions….. still brings a tingle to my mind 59 years and hundreds of listens later….god kids today have no idea
This was the age of musical masters and giants, only back then a lot of us never knew what we had until it was gone....comparing today's musicians to bands like these is like comparing today's swordsmen to the ancient Japanese and Chinese masters.
This new crap is here today and next week is old crap. 60's - mid 80's was the best ever. Much like classical music it has and will forever stand the test of time!
Legendary. I feel the same way... Great is great, good is good, bad is bad... I dig the blues... All great music comes from the blues. Phenomenal music has soul That's nothing you can teach. It just is... I just saw Buddy Guy on his last tour even in his 90s he's a force Saw him pushing 80 at his club in Chicago for my birthday and a female act who killed it too I wanna saw Francine Reed but I saw her somewhere else. It will come to me later. Stick & ELO soooo many greats that didn't get as recognized from this time period.... Including one I just ran across Little Feat.
I was at the Styx concert at Loyola Academy (in a high school gym) in Wilmette, IL in 1973 when they debuted "Lady." Sounded great then, and sounds great now!
We can tell them how it was. They can listen to the music we had at the time. But we can never make them understand the magic of the moments we shared being there. A unique time in musical and cultural history. Glad I was born and lived through a time like this.
fist concert I ever went to was STYX, in Pekin Il. , 1974 , at the ice rink....we had to sit on the hard cement floor, I was center stage, first row... still one of the best of many concerts I've been too...
Just turned 54, saw Styx for the first time ever last night. LOVED them growing up and they were AMAZING!!! Pushing 70 and older, still incredible chops, ALL of them!!!
Saw Styx last summer at Saratoga performing arts center in Saratoga New York. They were amazing. They opened for REO Speedwagon, but it should’ve been the other way around.

Did you know that Crystal Ball was about. A dude down on his luck, in Mobile, Alabama. And the band happen to find him. And the rest is history.
Love stories like your man ! Thanks for sharing 👍
Didnt know that's why they write crystal ball thanks for sharing the story !
I lost my dear wife to cancer last week. We had been together for over 40 years..... since our late teens.....this was our song..........:(
I wish I had been a teenager in the 60s but the next best thing was the seventies for music. It was my generation.
"Lady" One of he most impressive songs of the 70's
If you grew up listening to this music back in the 70's, like I did, we were so VERY lucky!! There has not been music like this since, PERIOD!!!!
We were blessed with great 70s music, so glad I was apart of it
I'll never never forget it
Even at 10 yrs old I knew it was magic. And here I am 43 yrs later.
I grew up in the 80’s and 90’s and after music hasn’t been music since about the mid 90’s. Late 60’s through early 80’s rock can’t be topped. Queensryche Silent Lucidity is an oddity that sounds more late 70’a than early 90’s

I'm 63 , seen Styx twice first was Grand Illusion tour and Theatre. Was amazing, never forgot
Best thing to ever come out of Chicago is
Styx
If you have a lady like this, make sure you not only tell her, but show her in every possible way.
this is one of the best live songs i have ever seen ...feel the energy ...and Dennis's VOICE !!!!! wow !!!!!
Amen.
Yep...1974 ...
"These bums" made some of the best music you will ever hear in your life, and this song tops that list.
The way they play the guitar and also hit all those high notes is incredibly impressive.
❤my daughter and are having a moment we both lost the love of our Ives my beloved Richard, her beloved father and this was one of our songs😢
Not that they will ever see this, but thank you STYX for decades of smiles, laughter, and tears.
We don't look for old music . We look for memories they carry . Great song and memories 🥂🥂
Well said my man...
@@jasonsteffens2222 🍻🍻
Some of the most beautiful music is old music. And those songs carry the memories of those times.
@@ceilconstante640 yes indeed
@@bobwirth9256 we still listen to Mozart and Beethoven don't we?

I love it when Tommy Shaw sings Lady
Back when singers actually sounded the same when they played live versus recorded.
and they could actually sing, no auto tune back then......
Just saw them last night and they sound the same still! Great high energy show!
❤️And, they are also great musicians! Very impressive. No auto-tune!❤️
Yes!!!!!

I'm 61. Born in 1960. I'll never stop growing up with great music.
I saw these guys multiple times in the 80's and I'm only 40
Styx was my first ever concert...Crystal Lake High School Field House, 1974, I was a student at North Junior High and the ticket cost $1.85. It was absolutely amazing.
,, I have my own time machine - it’s called ‘music’ 🙌,,
Yes. I relate to that 👍
their first song, "out of the gate", and their best song...never equalled.....
Never gets old! And why aren’t these guys in that Rock Hall of Fame yet???
My wife and I were HS sweethearts '74 '75 and '76. Married 1980 and now 40yrs, 3 daughters, 10 grandchildren. I love this song!! Danced at our wedding to this song.
GOD BLESS u and ur Family! That's Awesome😎

Why the fuck would we care?
Awesome brother... Good old days 4 sure my friend....
❤❤❤
I have seen Styx three times. They had a baby grand piano "white " .These are sum of the most talented musicians ever. 🤟
This is 1978 when I met my beautiful Wife, we are still ❤ together and hopefully for the rest of our lives.

Boy isn't that the truth ! Such talented groups that put out fantastic music. Styx is certainly up there. Good stuff man !!
We were definitely spoiled with the caliber of music we had then. Pure awesomeness!!!
Oh Styx is very talented from singing to the guitar and the drums.I believe they are one of the greatest in the 70s period.
One of the great songs of the 70s
I was 14 in 1972 this was the best time to grow up.
Tommy Shaw was underrated in my opinion
His voice is what drew me to Styx in the first place 🙏
Ditto!!
Ditto twice!@@karenk5284
We grew up with awesome sound in the 70s.
I first saw Styx in 1973 at Arkansas Tech. Been a fan ever since

This was my son's favorite band. RIP Jason.
Jason had great taste in music and he's now rocking to it in Heaven !!! Rock on Barbara !!!
I'm very sorry for your loss, Barbara.

Music IS the Universal language.
70s had the greatest music in history and its because of bands like this!
Just saw Dennis DeYoung this week in concert. His voice is still incredible for 73 years old !!
Dennis has an eternal voice
Legendary
Always preferred him over tommy shaw
Probably cause he took good care of himself, unlike many other rock band singers.
Bummer the group styx will not let him wing with them anymore OR bummer Dennis does not want to.
Saw them in ROANOKE VIRGINIA back in 1980s Awesome song
These guys were a powerhouse.
This song keeps me alive, if it wasn't for this and my wife, I wouldn't be typing this shit right now seriously
Keep hanging on! There are more people who care than you might think.

Me too. You know it’s good stuff if it has that effect after that long.
Classic rock is magical like that.
Having breakfast with my wife of 25 years and listening to this song together ❤️. Beautiful lyrics straight from the heart.
Yes indeed
This is a great song by Styx! Please say a prayer/moment of silence for all vets that did not come home or MIA. God Bless everyone!

Oh. Lord please let me go back to the 60 70 80 please long live rock
This is the song my husband and I danced 💕 to 23years old still more in love today.
*Wow.* My heart is full of gratitude to God.

Saw Styx last summer at Saratoga performing arts center in Saratoga New York. They were amazing. They opened for REO Speedwagon, but it should’ve been the other way around.
This song captures so many emotions. Easy and soft at first. The build up. Then the change in drum beat and crescendo!
A classic hard rock pop ballad. Way long gone now. That dude could sing.
