I bought my 2011 Ram 3500 dually with six miles on it. I am currently at 511,500 miles. I'm with you on maintenance. I use my truck for my hotshot business constantly hauling 5,000lbs to 16,000lbs on 10,000lbs trailer and this Texas heat is no joke. Great advice on your channel.

100% maintenance is key. My dad has a 03 Silverado 6.0 gas. 365,000 doesn't burn or leak a drop and has 0 issues. I change the oil every 5,000 miles and it's had Amsoil since got it with 125,000 miles. I have a 07.5 LMM Duramax, 350,000 miles. I change the oil every 7,000 miles and drain out exactly 2.5 gallons...what I put in. It's had Amsoil since 100,000 miles.

I inherited my 2008 Dodge Ram 3500HD Dually from my Father in Law for $10k with only 68k miles on it . It was a 6.7 Cummins and he had total documentation on every oil change and it was in a flood in Florida and had a new Turbo installed at 68k miles and a new transmission and AC/Trans/Radiator installed too at 68k miles. I bought my 2006 Chevy Duramax with 222k miles. It has a tuner and emissions is deleted across the board. The two guys that owned it were old. There are no leaks and when I turned the key from a cold start it fired right up. I could tell that it sat for some time I am guessing something broke they could not afford to fix right away. Oil was changed, new fuel filter, and zero blow by. I pulled the trigger, the truck has some rust underneath been working on grinding it down and spraying the underneath with rust protection. It came with new rocker panels which I was happy about.

Just came across your channel. From someone who has owned 5 cummins trucks and about to buy a 6.7 cummins with 281k. Miles do not matter. Last 04.5 i sold with 300k on the body. That truck had built motor, full billet trans, compounds and lots of fuel. I will say do not buy a truck like that for your first. Things break and costs are high when you get to 4 digit hp. That's why im going back to a good ole delete tuned 6.7 with a g56 and a twin disc. In the midwest rust is almost a given on any older truck. Flairs = rust 95% of time. We often up here buy rust free box's and body parts to ship up here and paint and put on our trucks.

Miles break things and time does the same. Bout to buy a low mileage 2019 L5P for the new daily. Take care of the truck and they will last a lifetime. I retire them and then start modifying them, just can't part with them for what a dealer offers.

Great advice. I would put another vote in buying stock bc when guys get all into their mods they want their money back when they sell and it ain't happening. Guys in my area want way too much for their modded trucks. Not to mention the point of wanting to build the truck how YOU want it.
And don't let the stealership fool y'all they're getting their money. I got my ecodiesel brand new off the lot and traded in my Wrangler as the down payment. I didn't want to sell it, I had to bc I had another kid on the way and not enough room. They gave me 10k for the jeep. A week later it was on their website for 14k.

You pay for what you get. Non emissions diesels especially the 5.9 will just continue to go up.

I'm looking at picking up a 2009 GMC Duramax with 470,000 from the original owner. I asked him how he kept her running so long and he said he's meticulius about the maintenance. He's only had to replace the water pump and the power steering pump. I would never consider buying a gas truck with that many miles, but it's a Duramax. I would also buy a Cummins with that many miles too, with the same level of TLC.

Great vid! My friend and I are looking at a Ram 3500 and the current owner tells him that he changes the oil based on what the gauge cluster tells him. He says he changes it when it says it has 10% life left. Would you recommend that we look elsewhere since I heard you said that you change your oil every 7000 something miles?

There's nothing wrong with that, that monitor is made to help with maintenance so he been doing good. In 2008 the 6.7 cummins interval was 7500 miles but since then it has increased to like 15k

I actually just picked up a 6.7 Ford with over 300K on it for cheap with engine issues. Looking into it now diagnosing it. It was owned by the younger age group you mentioned which I fall into, but the price was right. It's currently mostly stock except exhaust and tuning. Id prefer a bone stock truck, because that allows Me to do things MY way, the way I see fit. I'm not afraid of the miles at all, more so afraid of the tuning in the ECM as I have no way of knowing who wrote those tunes. Truck has a hole cut in the bed for a stack, soot on the cab, all the things you mentioned lol
